@BitterBetty12 I think it’s super hard when you’ve already used the name you love and then are having the same gender again! I think we would have REALLY struggled if we were having another boy because I love my DS name so much it would be hard to find something I loved equally! I think both of the names on your list are pretty! But I understand the feeling of one of them just not feeling right yet. Maybe spend a week calling the baby one of the names and see how you feel? If you’re still not sure try the other!

Stuck in a box, but This! I feel like we found our perfect boy name for my son, and I can't imagine loving another boy name that much if this one turns out to be a dude.
@LCRbelle That's a good idea. I think the tougher part is that Raegan is my favorite but H's is Keira. I don't think he'll concede to Raegan because he says its too much of a last name and a boys name. So well see.

DH and discussed the other day switching our middle names up. We are still sold on Elinor if it's a girl but it was going to be Elinor Rose but I thought of Elinor Joy the other day. For a boy we still are stuck on a couple of names but we like Thomas and Spencer. Middle name Beau. They are both subtle nods to our losses last year and what a miracle this baby is.
@cait32 I really like Morgan for a boy actually, I do consider it a neutral name although I have never met any males with this name (FWIW I've only met maybe 5 females with this name). DH leans more toward considering Morgan a girls name and I'm not sure if I can change his mind.

@jandd2014 Graham is on our short list for a boy too.
We are also considering Isaac but DD is Isabelle...we are only planning on having two so won't have to worry about another "I" name for more kids. Isaac happens to be a name we both like, so it's hard because some people will think we picked it for intentionally matching...which would not be the case. We'll find out in a few weeks if it's a boy or girl and we're pretty sure Sophie would be the girl name (so no matching there!).
@UnbreakableKimmySchmidt I mean. I know they both start with the same sound. But I think they are different enough and actually sound really good together without being too matchy!

@BitterBetty12 I have an Eleanor and the middle name was so hard for us. My grandma was Eleanor Louise. I liked Eleanor Rose a lot but my DD1 has Rose as a middle name already. I also really like Eleanor Joy but I have a crazy Aunt named Joy so I couldn't go there. We ended up with Kate. I know that isn't helpful but I don't think you will go wrong with Rose or Joy!
@Kabazaba I know this is a few days late but one thing to consider about hyphenating your kids last name is when they get married. I already mentioned this previously but my best friend married a man with his parents hyphenated name and she was forced to just take it. She wasn't going to have three names hyphenated. I felt really bad for her because I know she would have other wise.
@dragonette505 could you use Berkeley as a middle name and choose the one you really want for her first name?
The only thing i don't suggest is doing the opposite, thinking you'll just call her her middle name. My sister got talked into using my nephew's dad's name and Parker for his middle name. He's gone by Parker his whole life but it causes so much confusion with schools and documents.
I think it's a nice sentiment to want to honor someone but I also think your kid is going to have this name for forever. Honor whoever you want with a middle name, but pick something you truly love and your LO will love for your their first. Just my opinion though.
ETA- If you happen to really like Berkeley then you should pick it.
@galactickates Yikes. I can't imagine taking on the hassle of a hyphenated name when no part of the hyphenation was my own. That had to be a rough adjustment for your friend.

I don't hate Berkeley for a girl (I'm telling you, the men names in his fam a stellar... like romance novel names! lol) But it doesn't really match with any of the stuff i kinda like or rather matches too much. My husband and I actually both go by our middle names! lol so i know how it goes! PS Berkeley is also my hubs FIRST name (the one he doesn't go by) so he is sneakily trying to give his daughter HIS FIRST NAME! soooooooooo.... I dunno And for a middle name I had sort of wanted to use (this is going to sound nuts) my GRANDFATHERS middle name (yes we have problems with liking boy names i guess) But its really cute... His middle name was Goldee... sooooo cute and that's what my Gmother called him its all too much...lol I'm not stressing yet, but i have no idea where i'll land
So DH drooped the suggestion of Sawyer for our DD2 the other day. And honestly. I like it. BUT. I’m a little concerned that it’s kind of on the trendy side of giving girls a ‘traditional boy’ name.
For reference, DD1 has a gender neutral name. But it’s a name that (in my mind at least) is close to a 50-50 split. Especially in the current decade (maybe even leaning in favor of girls).
Now I personally DO think Sawyer is gender neutral - but I think most people associate it more as a male name than a gender neutral name. So I’m kind of torn.
Opinions? Any glaring reasons why it’s a bad choice for a girl?

@BitterBetty12 I only know girls names Sawyer! One is maybe five and the other is three? Because of this I would automatically assume girl if I heard the name.
@BitterBetty12 I think of Sawyer from Lost, a man. I don’t know any girls with the name and would lean more towards the “it’s trendy for a boys name to be a girls” vibe.
@LCRbelle my daughters name is Emerson and my brother made that joke one day while I was pregnant. I literally punched him in the face... lol I feel like you can make crude jokes about a lot of names so I don’t let it bother me too much.
@BitterBetty12 I think of Sawyer as a "boy" name, but as stated by others many names are crossing that line and it can be an advantage in a lot of ways (if DD2 becomes an engineer for instance -- less gender bias!). She wouldn't likely be the only "gender neutral" name in her class growing up, and it's not a weirdly spelled name (more classic). I think it's a perfectly nice name! You could always give her a more "feminine" middle name so that if she felt strongly about it she could go by her middle name.
@lakemomma2015 that is very true. Sadly in today’s world anyone can turn a name into something negative! I loved the boy name Tucker when pregnant with my DS but my DH said no way because of what it rhymed with! Emerson is such a beautiful name and I hate that I have that negative association with it!
I agree with not hyphenating your kids name. Even worse is using two last names. As someone who works with data and names a lot it is super confusing. I kept my name and we are giving her his last name - same as any future kids. Just keeping it simple. In NYC people don't even think twice about that.
Me and DH both have super long names and I'd encourage people to think about that. We have picked a short first and middle name because his last name is very long (mine is too). Balance is good.
Also, its so foreign to me to hear people picking names that don't have any meaning. I would need to have it at least be from a beloved novel, vacation, close friend, etc or something. I'm named after my grandfather's best friend and my uncle has the same name for his middle name. In Southern culture we also tend to have the maiden name as the middle name- so I have my mom's middle name as my maiden name and will be giving it to my daughter. It makes me sad to hear of people randomly picking names just because they like them but I realize I'm the weird one here haha.

I wanted a name with more meaning but DH vetoed everything I came up with. We ended up with a “random” name because it was the only only thing we could agree on. Her middle name is a family name. Although it did turn out that we unknowing have her the reverse of my great-grandmother’s name.
So far we haven’t even been able to come up with a list of potential names, so this kid will be lucky to have a name at all, lol. We’ll probably use my last name as a middle name even though it doesn’t go with DH’s last name.
Well it looks like my 5yo DS got to name his brother. Lol. When he found out I was pregnant he decided he liked the name Spencer. Named after the character Spencer Gilpin in the movie Jumanji. I guess if you get a little brother you can hope he's like the Rock. HA! So we hadn't considered the name before then but it grew on us and we decided on Spencer Thomas as the name. It's a pretty funny story we get to have forever and a cute bond they hopefully will have.
We have a Nora Quinn who is 2.5. Our three girls names are Fiona, Emmy, and Etta.
Our three boy boy names are Otto (after SOs grandpa), Porter, and Crosby.
Middle name will be Ron after both of our favorite grandpas. We were gonna do Ryon for the girls middle name but Fiona Ryon Theo (FRT...fart) isn’t gonna work
@sparkymcgee that's adorable! When I was pregnant last time my DS1 suggested "Rainbow" for a girl and "Jeff" for a boy lol. This time he is insisting we name him Simon (which is his own name) because he's "getting pretty big, and we have no little baby Simon anymore."
my daughter’s name literally means “bitterness”, we had to decide if we thought that would curse the poor child or not I have gone more for my gut reaction/initial attraction to the sound of a name just because culturally it hasn’t been a huge part of naming in my family or DH’s. I definitely see how it could be an important factor, but TBH that would make the process even harder for me!
I have too many considerations as is: 1-2 syllables (more seems too ‘wordy’ with our last name), No ‘B’ names (initials BM just reads ‘bowel movement’ to me- I know I’m immature, but I think what I think haha), can’t end in the same sound our surname starts with or ends with, and worst of all DH and I have to agree!

@PolarBear517@greenhillgirl I agree too!! My boss has the initials BM and we had the opportunity to use those initials for something at work and he asked us to. Every time I use them with a customer I cringe, but since it’s his initials and he was so excited when it was an option I didn’t want to bring up what it made me think of. Eek! Our last name is M and we definitely are avoiding B names.
@ladystout08 Leilani is beautiful! I love that! @Htheo I know 2 Porter's, I love that name. I wanted to use it but DH coached one of them when he was in HS football so he vetoed it.
But we have decided on our name and I am so excited because DH is so hard with names. He vetoes EVERYTHING so finding something we agree on is super hard. Plus we loved DS1's name so much, I was afraid we would never agree. But it's in....Easton Lyle!

My son keeps insisting we name the baby his name, Owen. I said that it would be confusing for me to have two Owens. He said it’s ok because babies don’t talk and when he starts to talk we’ll just change it.
@BitterBetty12 I really like Sawyer for both genders. It’s less common for girls near me, but I don’t think it’s too trendy at all. Especially if you give her a more obviously feminine middle name.

Still thinking Morgan for a girl's name.

Harrison, Holden, Weston, Micah, Oren, Owen and Porter
I'm accepting all criticism/awful associations or nicknames I haven't thought of lol, anything that might help a frontrunner emerge
