shrimp allergy??

My daughter had shrimp for the first time last night, and about an hour afterward had hives just on her face in about 4 different places. The were gone this morning. Does this mean she may have a shellfish allergy? Would the only way to know for sure is allergy testing? Thank you.

Re: shrimp allergy??

  • sounds like a definite shellfish allergy. J is allergic to milk, eggs, nuts and seeds, and even though he didnt show up on the shellfish test, we were told to avoid that as well. You can get a blood test, but the skin test is much more accurate. Avoid all shellfish b/c the second exposure could be alot worse, depending on her allergy numbers. J gets hives within minutes if milk touches his body, so since it took an hour I doubt it is a live threatening allergy, but still avoid.
