    So I don’t have my Spectra anymore — I sold it after I was done pumping. Should have said that. It would have been altogether too smart to keep it!

    Eta: also re: the flange size, this thing is so fancy pants that it will only take its own flanges. And so far they only come in 24 mm and 27 mm.

  • @PensiveCrayon Then if you aren’t sure I would go with the spectra and get a battery pack to make it hands free.
  • Has anyone made a registry at Encore?  It allows you to register for used items.  Right now I have an Amazon registry with requests for used items for some things, but I'm thinking of using Encore instead.  Any thoughts?

  • I signed up for an amazon registry (private) and purchased from it (bought a lot of diapers). I checked for my welcome box gift option today - they are out. No date for when they will have more again. Oh well...hopefully it’s soon-ish because I was excited.
  • @Activebaby Oh noes! I hope they’re back in stock soon FX

    Question about the qualifying purchase for the goodie box though - do you just purchase from your own Amazon account or ?

  • Does anyone know if the babylist welcome box is worth the $5 shipping? I'm reluctant to download the app because I have limited space on my phone, so if it's really not worth it I won't even bother.
  • @scaredunprepared I'm trying to decide about the babylist box.  You can see what's in the June box here.  Looks like it is worth more than $5 to me, but some of the stuff I would never have bought myself so I'm still undecided

  • @scaredunprepared and @kadeephd I thought the babylist box was worth it! It had some nursing pads, a onesie, a great little hat, a bottle, a pacifier, samples of babywash, nipple cream. I think there was some other stuff but I forgot what. We probably won't use the bottle, but we may if this one is picky.

  • Thanks ladies! It does seem like it's worth it to me. I think I'm going to go for it!
  • @scaredunprepared I just got a notification that my babylist box was shipped.  It's the July box, not the June.  I placed my order in June, but since it shipped in July that's the one I am getting.  I'm a little sad because there is no hat in there.  Here is the unboxing.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd bummer!  The onesie is cute though... but I don't know if it's worth it :(
  • I'm bringing this back again to ask STM (or any other paranoid FTM) what you think about flame retardants in baby products.  Is it totally nuts to try to limit exposure?  It is impossible to eliminate exposure since flame retardants are everywhere, including breast milk.  I bought my husband and I an organic mattress that has not been treated because I'm paranoid, so I plan to buy baby an organic mattress too.  But SO MANY baby/kid products are treated with them -- from car seats, to pack and plays, to pajamas.  It seems like it would be exhausting to not buy any of them.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd I literally have no thoughts about them.  Honestly, I think I'd almost rather have a mattress with it on it, god forbid we have a fire at home, I'd rather that a lot of her stuff not catch fire.
  • @Jens_Hoes Mattresses made without chemical flame retardants still need to meet the same standards as those with them.  There are just some natural materials that are flame retardant, like wool.  It's possible to find chemical flame retardant free versions of most baby products... I'm just not sure it's worth the worry/hassle/expense for me.  I'm trying to decide how crazy to be about it.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd I completely understand your concern. I struggle myself with getting really worried about certain products and chemicals and then becoming overwhelmed because they are in everything. Personally, I would not worry about it too much, because the baby will have a mattress cover and a sheet between them and the mattress.  There are so many other things to worry about as a parent, but if this is something that really bothers you, do what you need to do to put your mind at ease!
  • @katy0990 We are all getting slowly poisoned and I know I can't prevent that from happening to my baby.  I should probably just let it go.  You are right, there are so many things to worry about.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd Ugh, I hate that everything is drenched in chemicals too. I think our best bets will be
    1. organic sheets and 'baby lounge clothes' instead of pajamas (since baby PJs MUST be treated to be sold as PJs, but lounge clothes do not require treatment)
    2. air out that mattress for a week or so (outside or somewhere with good circulation) to reduce off-gasses gettin' all up in baby's face

  • @echo-charlietango just an FYI, not all pjs must be treated.  They either need to be treated or they need to be tight fitting.  Every single sleeper that I've gotten from Carters size 12 month and up comes with tags stating that it is not flame retardant and is made to be tight fitting.
  • @Jens_Hoes Ah! Good to know that treated PJs is not a 100% requirement - whew! It's been a while since I heard about that anyway :sweat_smile:

  • @kadeephd There is a lot to worry about. I spent a lot of time during my son’s first year obsessing about everything. It started to drive me crazy and wear on my husband. So, I did some thinking about what was most important to me. For me, I decided that anything that went in his body and the cleaning products, were what I was going to focus on because unfortunately you cannot put them in a bubble. So, decide what is most important to you and eliminate it. Go with your gut!

    @echo-charlietango @kadeephd I just bought some burts bees jammies at target and I know they snug fit and don't have flame retardants!  PLUS they are incredibly cute and they have a lot of gender neutral stuff.  And I think they have some on sale on the burts bees website too.

  • @texas_t @rosebud332 +1 to ignoring it all.

  • @kadeephd and @echo-charlietango I second what @Jens_Hoes said. We always just used tight-fitting pjs. Cuter (imo) and also safer without the chemicals.
  • tunneltunnel member
    @kadeephd My approach was to try to limit chemicals in everyday exposure items.  So we bought an organic mattress, organic mattress cover, organic sheets, and organic pillow and pillow cover (when older) because baby is exposed to that multiple times a day.  We also do non-treated tight fitted PJs. I let the rest (e.g. car seats) be because the exposure is more limited.

  • Just bumping because i'm finally (sincerely) working on my registry and need to revisit. Maybe someone else will too, or STM+ moms will have some more thoughts. :) thanks yall.
  • We ended up changing our mind on a stroller and we're going with the Joovy Caboose Too Ultralight. Once baby is here, DS1 will be 3 yes and 4 months. I assume he'll walk a lot, but I'd love a place for him to sit just in case. I didn't want giant double steoller, so this seems perfect!

  • It's so interesting to see everyone's different experiences with products! I will admit that we went WAY overboard with our registry wit DS. We had more room then and were just so eager.

    Things we loved/neeeeeeeeded:
    * NEW carseat
    * Stroller
    * Mattress
    * Sheets (We got like 6 sheets, DS was easy and I'd say we only needed to get 2)
    * Crib
    * Place to change baby. We had a changing table/changing pad in the nursery, and a PnP in the living room that had a convertible changing table. It was nice not lugging him into the other room each time. I know that's not necessary and may be overboard, but it worked well for us. We also used a diaper caddy/basket a lot, but I was immobile due to a broken foot 2 weeks post partum so that may have been situational lol
    * Disposable changing pad covers (These were so convenient and helpful)
    * Ubbi
    * RnP. It's the ONLY place he would sleep. We ended up buying a second one for our room and kept the other in the living room.
    * Bottles (BFing didn't work out as we had hoped)
    * Bottle drying rack
    * Thermos (for warm water on the go)
    * Formula dispenser (?) I don't know if that's what its called, but its like a tupperware with chambers for formula on the go.
    * Unisex diaper bag
    * Portable changing pad/station (public changing stations are gross)
    * Swaddles. I may have a slight addiction to cute swaddles.
    * Sleep sacks (I didn't realize how much I would use these)
    * NoseFrida. In fact, I love all of the frida baby products, including the Windii.
    * Baby first aid stuff. Thermometer, diaper cream, there's a brand that does a little package of a bunch...tylenol, gripe water, etc. We used a ton of gripe water. This is one of those things that seems unnecessary until you need it, but when you need it... you'll want it ASAP.
    * DS LOVED his swing
    * SOME clothes in different sizes- It gave an idea of our style in case people went rogue. I personally always stick to the registry when buying clothes, but I know a lot of people don't. We got A LOT of clothes either way. I'd save this until closer to your due date so that things are still available in store. We put different sizes because it was nice to have a head start when it was time to size up.
    * Bath
    * Glider/Rocker
    * Pacifiers - He didn't use them right away and we had hoped to never use them. We were gifted a bunch and he only ended up liking ONE type.

    Things that were helpful, but not completely necessary right away
    * Jumper
    * Baby gym
    * Toys and books
    * Teethers (Once he started teething he was pretty specific about what he liked with these too)
    * Highchair
    * Bath toys - He JUST started playing with these and he's almost 2

    Things we never used/didn't register for
    * Wipe warmer
    * Fancy diaper bag (I had every intention of switching diaper bags for something cuter when it was just me and it never happened)
    * Baby washclothes
    * Baby towel/robe
    * Crib toy
    * Crib bedding set (Same reason as the bumpers)

    I want to shop and create a registry just for the completion discount, but I'm not thinking of much to put on there! This baby won't have her own room for several months so it's not like we need another set of nursery furniture or anything. Plus we really did go overboard with DS that we don't need a lot of things like diaper cream, nursing pads, etc.

  • OH! Also, we did not register for this, it was given to us, but it was a godsend. It was one of the only things that would help calm DS, AND it's portable. The Bright Starts Beaming Buggy.
