We buy every new food item we think we might like in pumpkin spice, and now even have a google spreadsheet going so we remember what we loved and hated each year. Obsessed.
Yes to the pumpkin spice stuff. Most of it is taaaaasty.
No to big headbands and babies with their ears pierced.
I’m pretty meh with kids’ music... Raffi is not terrible. DS has a Baby Beluga book and he likes to listen to the song while he looks at it, which gives me a nice break from reading it. Luckily DS’s favorite movies are Moana and Curious George, and those soundtracks are pretty decent.
I absolutely can’t tolerate kids music. We listen to my music, and Disney music.
I also think pierced ears on a baby is a goofy choice, but it seems clearly to be a cultural thing in most cases when parents choose it so, live and let live.
I LOVED putting bows on my girls, but never huge ones. Also they almost always ripped them off immediately anyway so it was generally a moot point.
I fully recognize and respect when it’s for cultural reasons, but other than that, I hate piercing ears on babies. I can’t understand it. I’ll let my daughter decide when she’s maybe... 8?
Regular beer like bud lite etc is naaaasty. I love modelo with Mexican food though and you can’t beat a good stout! Dogfish head’s bitches brew is soooo good. I’ll have the first teeny tiny sip when I open one for Curtis. The first drink out of a fresh bottle is the best! Deep fried cheese curds? Heavenly. I’m ok with pumpkin but the spice part is what gets me. Most stuff has too much nutmeg or is way too sweet imo.
Pumpkin Spice is not that great. I like pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread. Although, I do love me some pumpkin beer.
No opinion on the headbands. Baby girl will probably have a few for dressy occasions.
@nasalot188 I totally agree about ears pierced thing! What a royal PITA for one and for two I’ll wait until my kid wants it, if she does. I got mine when I was 8 and I was over the moon excited!
@tlmill I love Rockaby baby. I think we have Jay Z lol
Maybe an UO, maybe not I teach K-5 music so I have a pretty high tolerance for kids music. However, I will say, all those “kids” songs everyone knows I only use in Kindergarten. There is a ton of music out there that’s not annoying or repetitive.
@nasalot188 I agree with you on this, but my MIL thinks that she is just going to take my little girl and get her ears pierced without me knowing. Little does she know how much of a tomboy I was and hated that I ever got my ears pierced and am hoping that my child will follow in my foot steps!
@jandmnumber1 - She seriously thinks it is okay to do a body modification on your child without your consent? If she does, take the earrings out and tell her she can’t have any more unsupervised visits with her grandbaby.
@knottieamusements if it were only that easy. I am hoping that she wouldn’t do that but I’m not going to hold my breath on it. She really has no boundaries and DH loves his momma.
My great aunt told my Mom to grab my baby and run because she thinks one of my planned baby shower activities is too weird. (We’re planning a stuffed animal vaccination clinic - for cooties, and chicken pox, and maybe against the terrible twos?)
@knottieamusements@jynjer91 I am really hoping that she waits until baby girl has a voice of her own to decide, I didn’t get my ears pierced until I was 10 and took them out within the year due to such sensitive skin and I’m thinking that my baby is going to be blessed with the same skin issues as me and I wouldn’t want that same torture for my baby. It will definitely be discussed in great length with MIL so that she understands my side of it. But she is brutal!!!
@jandmnumber1 For me, I don’t care how much I love you, if you tell me you’re taking my child and doing anything remotely close to permanent (or puts them in danger) you will not get the child alone. My parents refuse to recognize that food allergies are a thing and that their dog is somewhat dangerous around kids and so my kids are not ever at their house or with them without MH or I being right there to watch them. It’s so bad we won’t even walk away from them at parties.
@jandmnumber1 I would honestly talk to your DH now before baby comes about appropriate boundaries with his mom and your girl. TBH, if he doesnt see how his mom permanently changing your daughters body against your wishes is crossing boundaries, that would make me super nervous about your DH
@kiwi2628 he doesn’t know that she has even mentioned the ear piercing thing already. And it will definitely come up, he is very protective of me and will back me no matter what. MIL goes to the USA for the winter so she won’t see baby much anyways and definitely won’t be alone with her since I don’t trust her!
@jandmnumber1 that's so not okay! My inlaws are similar to @purplegoldfish2 parents they dont listen when are asked not to give kids something like candy. They think they'll be getting babies for sleep overs and such and they'll be in for a ride awakening when they realize that isnt happening for a very long time. If they attempted to do anything like pierce ears they'd lose all visitation of my children.
@jandmnumber1 oh good. When you said your DH is a mommas boy I got nervous that he thought of her in a 'she can do no wrong' way, and I have seen how 'dangerous' that can be for a relationship when kids get involved
My UO is I hate wearing makeup and doing my hair all fancy.
I quit wearing makeup about 4 years ago and it is so liberating to not have to do it before going out. The reason why I stopped was my eyes would get so itchy and no mater that product (hypoallergenic, natural etc) I tried it would be brutal. So then I figured if I can't do my eyes what's the point of doing foundation. My skin is better for it and I feel so good being natural now. The hair thing I was never good at ever because my hair is so thin and slippery. Can't hold a curl and looks silly in a pony tail without a ton of hairspray due to so many flyaways.
DH says I look beautiful natural so really that's all that matters.

I dont feel like I have to do my hair and makeup and definitely enjoy the extra time I have before going out when I skip it but I do enjoy getting myself "dolled up" every once and a while still. That usually just means eyeliner and mascara because idk how to do foundation or blush or all that extra stuff. My hair is thin too so if I do anything to that its straighten it and call it good... but i do agree I like that fresh face feeling of going au natural
+1 to no makeup! If I do anything it’s mascara and on special occasions a little bit of blush. Anything else hides my freckles so it looks weird and I have no earthly idea how to contour or do my eyes anyway. Luckily Curtis hates makeup!
I like doing my makeup. I don’t wear any most days when I’m just around the house, but if I’m having a normal being-a-person day it helps me feel like myself. Also I tend to wear neutral colors so I like adding a pop of bright lip stain if I’m in the mood for it.
also, to those who don’t like coffee or beer... I have no words. Have you had a guiness? They’re like a light lovely alcoholic milkshake. Aaaand now I need one.
I almost never do my hair or wear makeup. Maybe on holidays, but that’s it. Hair is even less. I have wavy hair so it’s moose and go. My DH doesn’t like makeup so it’s a plus.
@DunkinDecaf I have tried everything from shitty beer to good beers to micro-brewery beers to specialty beers. The only beer I like is when its made with grapes instead of wheat/hops and fermented and then they call it wine.
I’d say that 70% of the time I don’t wear makeup, and if I do it’s just eyeliner. I’ll add mascara if DH and I are going on a date but that happens like once every 6 months. I do straighten my hair most days, because otherwise I look like I stuck my finger in a light socket.
While I was visiting my family this past week I realized that my little sister spends 2-2.5 hours EVERY DAY doing her hair and makeup and all I could think was “do you realize how much Netflix you could be watching instead?!”
2+ hours!?! Oh wow, I remember taking long to get ready when I was in middle school early high school but never even close to an hour. But again I've never been able to contour or bake my face or whatever else people can do. It's a skill I think, and one I do not have lol
Amusingly, I hopped on Facebook earlier, and the “memory” it popped up was from 4years ago when I got all dolled up for a date - and got stood up. My hair was short at the time, so just make-up.
I went to Cancun earlier this year with my Mom and my brother’s GF. The GF had to blow dry and straighten her hair every morning, even when whatever we were planning was pretty much guaranteed to ruin a hair style.
As for Guinness- I honestly can’t stand the smell of beer. I won’t even kiss someone who has been drinking one. It physically turns me off.

(Sorry, mighty Midwest)
Beer and coffee are gross, I don't even like the smell.
@SawyerRichardson Fred Penner! Yay for the Canadian version of things (like Mr Dress-Up instead of Mr Rogers)!
There’s a difference between something to keep the hair back, and a piece of elastic pinched around a bald head.
Deep fried cheese curds? Heavenly.

@knottieamusements I think that’s an adorable shower idea! I like that it unique, baby showers can be so drab.
