Re: July 2018 FET

  • Hi everyone, we are back from NY and exhausted but good! Just catching up on here and sorry I was MIA for a week there!

@amy8686 welcome and glad you've joined us here!

@kristimh80 yay for a great lining check! It's getting close, can't believe we're in July finally as these weeks go ticking by so slowly.

@Drove2u just reading about those needles freaked me out, you are one brave lady.

I know I'm late responding to some of these, but as for Lupron, I just had mild headaches the first few days and then they went away, shots didn't hurt any except some dull needles were a bit frustrating.

One the transfer of 1 versus 2, my RE did ask me if we were doing 1 or 2 (we only have 2 frozen) and I said definitely 1. Not only do I fear a twin preg at my age, but since we only have the 2 I feel I literally can't put all my eggs in one basket.  :D

AFM, trip went fairly well. Last morning was way awkward and my DH had one blowup with his mom (but luckily that was when I was off visiting a friend thank goodness) so I guess better than expected. Moving on to only FET thoughts now that that other stress is behind me! YAY!!!!!

One other thing...reading about everyone's number of FET appointments, I realized I may be the only one who doesn't have a baseline appt? I just have the lining check the week before the FET and that's it. I wonder why no baseline? I agree, we had so much monitoring before the ER that this feels weird. But my clinic has a 75% success rate with PGS tested embryos so I will trust they know their stuff.

@Momifbysea Happy your trip went well!! I don’t usually get baselines either for FET’s. Only did this once due to being on BCP’s waiting on my ERA results, so hasn’t screwed up knowing my exact timing to start. So dont worry about that. That’s usually why they have you come in mid cycle as well and check you progesterone levels

  • Hey, Friends. Is it just me or do FET cycles seem to take foreverrrr? I'm currently taking BCPs and Lupon injections - baseline is 7/11. I forgot my Lupon injection this morning and had to run home quick.. super frustrating!

I finally just added myself to the tracker. I technically belong on the August FET board, but you all are stuck with me :)

    I hope everyone's well.

  • Hi, I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if I am slow to pick up on the social norms as it seems a bit different than what I am used to.

I have my first FET scheduled for 7/26. I had a successful IVF in Sept of 2016 and am ready to give my DD a sibling. I started estradiol yesterday and the only meds for my protocol are estradiol and then I add progesterone at some point.

One question I have is regarding timing. My FET is scheduled in day 27 of my cycle. I have read a bit here and there that some people do an ERA to find the best timing to do the transfer, but my clinic makes it seem like it doesn't matter. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are.

@Chrysallys Welcome!! I did an ERA, only after I had a failed FET cycle with no implantation. Most doctors won't do them unless you've had implantation issues / multiple FET failures, which it doesn't sound like you have since you've been successful before. Around 25% of people need their implantation window adjusted, so most people fall in the normal range. It's still on the newer side and some dr's don't believe 100% in it yet.

  • I am blown away by how active and long this July FET thread is!! No way I will be able to go back and read it all, so jumping right in. Just put up an intro post. IVF in fall 2015, successful FET after a month to purge meds. Ready to try for another, since I'm 39 and not getting any younger..... Hysteroscopy was in May. Day 1 of my cycle was 6/16, had baseline blood 6/19, re-check on 26th and 29th. Lining looks good, hormones look good. I'm on Estrace and Crinone. Medrol for the next 4 days.

Hello to you all. I look forward to sharing thoughts and hearing your stories!
  • @chrysalis7 Welcome! I know my clinic control my cycle, so I transfer on their schedule, not mine.  I'll be transferring a day 5 blast on cycle day 33.  My last successful transfer was on CD23, so my clinic doesn't seem to think it matters either.

    @kbear28 Welcome to the party!

@ madasm0530 yessssss. An ER cycles seems to fly by and there are so many appointments and updates and everything seems to move so fast!  Looks like we are probably transferring on the same day!

@Chrysalis7 I asked my doctor about this yesterday when I was inquiring what would be the next steps if this transfer doesn’t work.  He said the typical ideal time frame from progesterone to transfer is 111 hours with an 18 hour window that 80% of people fall into.  After 2 failed transfers they can do an ERA if they think that is what is needed, but it is not exact science and they see just as good results by just shifting transfer by 12 hours back from the time of begging progesterone.  It seemed like they are open to doing if it that is what a patient would really want, but they don’t jump to that first or generally push it since it is an added expense and they haven’t found it makes a huge difference in their experience.

So, yesterday’s endo scratch wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t worried too much about it to begin with.  The only think I don’t like is although I am normally in and out super duper quick for regular monitoring appointments/etc, whenever I have an actual appointment with my RE in the afternoon for something, it takes foreverrrrrrrr.  Like, I was waiting on the table sitting on that paper sheet for 45 minutes yesterday!  Hold crap, I would have much rather been sitting in the waiting room than sitting there.  When waiting that long it actually starts to make me a little anxious and then the paper starts sticking to me and it is so awkward, anyone else?  When it was finished and I was leaving the room he caught me in the hall to ask if anyone had spoke to me about this (as he was holding the PGS results on a clipboard).  Good think I wasn’t trying to keep all gender information unknown because I could see everything.  Now I am about 100% sure they will be transferring a male.  The 4 male were the better quality and the only female had an 85% confidence on chromosome 22, so I think that may be considered mosaicism?  @ndz2018

Since it won’t be long before people start transferring I wanted to go ahead and throw this out there, what is the general consensus on TW?  I have seen different threads handle them differently and wanted to check what people here thought.  Like I mentioned earlier, the only FET I have really followed closely was the April thread, and it was pretty lenient for the most part, with people still being conscious of the other conversations happing at the time.  I know I don’t care one way or the other and you pretty much always know what is said by people replies, but I just wanted to put it out there is a large majority had a strong preference.  If I am having a generally hard day I stay off TB anyways, but I know everyone is different. (I don't remember seeing this discussed already, so sorry if it was already addressed.)
  • @leilee101 They don't know why e2 is shooting up.  Supposedly the cyst was not functional so they suspect I was having an abnormal response to the Estradiol.  I'm not convinced but I guess patches are absorbed differently and we will add pills later if my lining doesn't want to cooperate.  At this point, I am cautiously optimistic. I started acupuncture just prior to my 1st FET and I did get a BFP that cycle. I don't know if that did anything but I will be doing it again this time.  I do find it relaxing and my acupuncturist is a friend of a friend and is super invested in my IF journey since she has been through it too.
@becca07024411 As for TW I tend to hide my post with a spoiler if its a BFP or a MC as a courtesy to what other people are going through. Personally, I feel like I have been through it all at this point so I'm not phased by other people's posts good or bad.
@madasm0530 I hear you on FET taking forever.  It doesn't help that I am going on my 3 time stopping and starting too.
@Chrysalis7 Welcome.  I will hopefully be transferring the same week as you!  As for ERA I was in the 20% that needed to adjust my timing so I was glad i did it, but since you got pregnant on an IVF cycle before I would assume you don't need to adjust your timing.  Maybe it's different with fresh cycle, I don't know.
    @kbear28 Welcome!
  • @becca07024411 on this board I have mostly seen ladies hide any BFP or MC etc. in a spoiler, and throw up a trigger warning. This is the way it should be, I was on another board on TB and I posted something about getting a positive HPT in a spoiler WITH a TW and everyone freaaaaked out. I have found this board is more lenient and as long as you put it in a spoiler, you're good. Someone please speak up if I am mistaken, though! and my RE is really good about not making me wait too long, sometimes for monitoring if it's a busy day and tons of ladies I have to wait for like an hour tho!
@kbear28 Welcome :) Do you have a tentative transfer date set yet?? So jealous you get multiple lining checks, I only get one, it will be this Friday
@Chrysalis7 Welcome! I echo what everyone else said about an ERA being more of a reactive procedure as opposed to a proactive one. Hopefully you won't even need to raise it as a question!

Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July!!
  • @becca07024411Wow, thank you so much for sharing what your doc told you about the window.  I had never heard that, so it is good to know!
@suziev3 That would be great if we could be transfer buddies!

Thanks everyone for your responses regarding ERA and timing and such.  It makes me feel better about the timing of my FET.  I have a bad/good habit of questioning everything my clinic does.  I think it helps me feel more in control of this whole process.  It is so crazy though how different every clinic is.  Just looking at everyone's protocols just boggles my mind of how unique each clinic does things.
  • becca07024411 I think what concerns me is just shooting myself up. Like how far in do I go?  I have no idea. I’m hoping maybe they can give me progesterone suppositories while I’m away or something. I’m also flying to Portland. Can you carry needles with you on the plane? So not looking forward to this. So glad the endo scratch went well!! And I totally hear you about sitting on that paper too long. No joke many years ago I had a regular gyno appt and I had to sit in my gown for TWO FREAKIN hours. The doc comes in and she goes sorry for the wait…I’ll be with you in one sec, I have to go to the bathroom. LOL. I never went back to that place. The worst part was that I took a day off work so I didn’t just want to leave and then reschedule and take another day off work. And yay for a boy!!

It also doesn’t bother me when people share good news and get BFPs. That’s what we’re here for I believe. To cheer each other on and be there for each other when we get bad news but also good news. How do you even do spoilers? I have no idea! Can someone teach me?

kristimh80 so excited to hear this news!! and 11mm is amazing!!

ChristenMA83  I WISH I had the suppositories. Lol

leilee101 Cape Cod sounds so nice. I’ve never done acupuncture in the middle of cycles. I wouldn’t be opposed to it, just haven’t gotten around to it.

Momifbysea  sounds like your trip was pretty successful then and glad that stress is over for you. Now you can just focus on FET. That’s ‘interesting that you have no baseline. Will you ask why? I mean I wouldn’t really worry about it but I would be curious to know.

madasm0530 I never did BCP or Lupron but yes please stay here with us!!

Chrysalis7 welcome!! We are trying for a sibling here too.

kbear28 Looks like we have the same transfer date according to the sheet! And we are also trying for a sibling! I just ordered  my wondfos and will be testing probably starting on Friday. Haha

Transfer Thursday! Guys, I don’t know. I have a bad feeling and don’t think this round will work.

  • @becca0702441 I totally get what you mean about it taking forver! When I started my FET cycle, I swear it took my nurse forever to come back to the room with all my stuff! I started telling my husband that I think they forgot about us! lol

As for the topic on people popping over, it doesn't bother me. I'm chatty with several on other monthly FET boards. Guess after being on here for so long, I've gotten to know other girls on here from doing IVF cycles, IUIs, etc. And some times I've been on their boards, like last month my ERA cycle fell between May & June, so I was on both talking to others..same as my IVF cycle was Jan & Feb...so always tried keeping up with others, if nothing else to be supportive. Only time I've ever been bugged was when someone "lurked" our board and never chatted with anyone until they got their BFP...and it came across as bragging and was very unfair to others that were invested and maybe were going thru a hard time. Long as everyone is nice and respectful...I'm good

Personally, I don't mind one way or another with BFP announcements but have used a spoiler in the past when on the infertility boards.  I figure you can't go wrong that way.  I like seeing the success stories because it gives me hope.

  • @leilee101 if that happened several months ago then I totally know what your are talking about!
  • Plans for the 4th: nothing really fun here.  We're skipping the family get together (that was today) because we didn't want to deal with it.  DH and I have started delivering groceries with Instacart so 100% of the $$ can go to our IVF savings fund and we can do another retrieval this year if needed without hitting our budget or debt burndown plans....so we have all day tomorrow booked for that.  The shopping is actually kinda fun, we get to hang out together and judge other people's grocery choices.  Other than that, we'll just be trying to keep our dogs calm during the fireworks.  One of our pups could care less but the older one is an absolute basket case.

  • @ChristenMA83 Awe that sounds like fun...the shopping part! That's also a great idea and way to save for another round later. I wish we had thought of doing something like that. My mom is in town, but think we will be skipping my in-laws plans as well for he same reason. They like to be in "the know" and we aren't telling them anything this time. My australian shepherd is also a baby during fireworks, so it will be a thundercoat  and chill night for us too.

  • @ChristenMA83 that’s a great thing! I order my groceries through shipt and it is amazing- I have only had one bad experience with food being bad.  Most  everyone acttually picks items they would get for themselves!

@leilee101 ditto with what everyone else has said about trigger warnings.  I usually err on the side of caution and put it in a spoiler box now that I have learned how to do that (I mobile bump).  On some threads you also need to TW when you mention children at all.

    AFM-
i had us and bloodwork today.  They are adding estrace two times a day vaginally so I am joining the smurf club. ERA still scheduled for July 17.  No real plans for the 4th other than taking it easy.

@Momifbysea - I also did not have a baseline for this cycle so you are not alone!  I am now curious as to what the purpose of a baseline for a FET Is.
@kristimh80  - For the fourth I am going downtown to watch the fireworks where I live.  It is just a medium sized city, but I really love the fireworks show here.  I am very excited!

Out of curiosity, how is everyone doing with the meds?  I am on day 3 of estradiol and just feel crappy today.  I am nauseous, emotional, and irritable.  I guess this means they are working?   I am hoping this is my body adjusting and that this isn't the beginning of several weeks of feeling like this.
  • @Chrysalis7 sorry the estradiol isn't treating you well.  I'm so used to being on that one I don't even notice it.  I start the femara and Acyclovir on Thursday.  I'm a little nervous about the

Acyclovir because the pills are huge and I haven't been on this one before.

  • @Chrysalis7 Sorry your estrogen isn't being good to you! The past couple times on estrogen, I've had the same issue at the beginning, but it did eventually go away not very long after. Hang in there and your body should adjust :)

@tinjp78 Welcome to the party! Happy PUPO! Feel free to add yourself to the spreadsheet. I love your TWW thoughts! That's what I've decided to do as well. No stress and just enjoy the ride <3

  • @becca07024411 haha yes! So dramatic. This board is soo much more supportive, I agree with @ChristenMA83 that I really enjoy seeing people suceed! We’re literally all here for one goal, I get happy and hopeful when I see others reach that and it just helps me feel like I am one step closer to have that BFP feeling myself.

@Chrysallys my boobs were super sore the first few days but now that I’m like 12 days into it I don’t notice anything anymore. Way different than stimming, where I felt progressively more symptomatic. Frozen cycles are soo much easier!

@bpietronicco loling @ smurf club. So annoying but bright side: not a needle! @kristimh80 you’re not missing anything, I’m nervous about a 4th of July pool party tomorrow but I’ll be damned if I let a little blue goo hold me back from rocking my bald eagle bathing suit on America’s birthday!!

@tinjp78 welcome to the party! Youve had such a long journey, hoping it ends next week. TWW has been the hardest part of this whole process for me, I love your attitude. I’ve always caved and used HPT and it’s always messed wth me more. Your beta is first thing next week.. you got this!

@Drove2u soo close!! Good luck girl!
  • @tinjp78 - Welcome! I was just thinking that I'm impatient for SOMEONE here to finally be in the TWW so we can start getting some results soon. I'll be eagerly awaiting your updates. The TWW is the worst.

@Chrysalis7 - I generally feel crappy with every single medication. My specific side effects vary from cycle to cycle, even with the same exact protocol, which is odd. Though I think I always get hot flashes from estradiol. I hope your side effects fade a bit as you get used to them.

@Drove2u- I've flown with medications and needles several times with no problem. They advice you to get a note from your doctor explaining that you need to have this stuff with you, but I've NEVER had TSA ask to see the note. I used to tell the TSA people that I was carrying injectable medications and ask if they wanted me to take it out for inspection, but they always said no, so now I just leave it in my carry-on and they don't care. I'll be flying out of Portland next week!

As for the TW stuff, I'm good with putting results in a spoiler, but I definitely don't mind seeing anyone's news at any time, as long as everyone is sensitive to what's going on within the board. (Like, before barging in with good news, make sure to catch up and see what kind of news you're following.) Really, I've always kind of wondered whether anyone actually looks away from spoilers and TW news, particularly since the next several posts generally respond to that news so it would be obvious what it said anyway. Right?

On the topic of being sensitive to what everyone is going through - there are so many of us trying for siblings in this board! And I remember that before having my son, I was very sensitive to any kind of good news or complaints or anything remotely ungrateful from people who had already successfully had children. So for those of you trying for #1, please speak up if there's something we can do to ease that angst. :)

@kristimh80 Thanks! On this TWW Im holding on to the ignorance is bliss thought. I'm also so excited to be on that list, I'll add myself there in a bit

@leilee101  I love what you said "hoping it ends next week" Yeessss me too! I wish it and I'm praying that all of us will all see that great bright light at the end of this dark dark tunnel.

@amy8686 Thanks for your welcome.  I dread the TWW as well, but I see SO many lists on the net on how to survive it and I'm applying my favorite ones. First on my list was to keep my hands busy, cleaning/tidying up my house and second is to watch funny movies, I watched What to Expect when you're Expecting yesterday and now Tangled.

DH and I are trying for our 1st baby, but no worries, since I joined TB, one thing I learned is to be kind, everybody is struggling. I love seeing BFP's and I don't mind seeing posts about kids too. The only thing that heats me up are the spams. You know, those guys who pretend to be ladies doing ART, saying they've done everything and nothing works and in the end they'd promote surrogacy. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against using a GC but what I don't like is when their posts' readers get invested into their fake stories. Grrr

Anyway, do you have fun, happy movies to suggest for a TWW?

oh and I'm having trouble inserting my Progestan pills into my vag in the morning (sorry tmi), but it gets easier at night. I feel that my uterus is so low that I can't push it deeper? This med has no applicator which I think is harder than when I used another brand that has one during my ivf#1. I tried inserting it lying down and standing up, they had similar outcomes. I'd appreciate any tips on this
  • @amy8686 That's so sweet and thoughtful for you to say that. <3

@tinjp78 Those spams are the worst!! As for progesterone pills....I had to do them ages ago. I never used the applicators before I found them uncomfortable and annoying. So just did them manually and would just lay there for a few so they had time to dissolve. Laying down was the only way I could get the job done :)

Wow! So much to catch up on!!

To all the newbies to this thread WELCOME!

So we go some bad news the other day. The accident I was In a few weeks back threw out some disc or something (I cant Remember she was talking so fast) normally this wouldn’t be an issue but I can Hardly walk right this second. It started last weekend and my Monday i almost had DH take me to the emergency room. I got an appointment the next day for the doc who ordered the MRI who told me she thought it’s best if I push Off my FET to Aug. And after speaking with my RE she thinks it’s best as well. I’ll be getting some cortisone injections in a few weeks in my back. Let hope between the Chiro 3 x a week and my Dr we can get this damn FET rollin in a few weeks :(:'(:(:'(:(:'(
  • Oh no @ndz2018 !!!! I'm sorry to hear about your condition today, you must be in a lot of pain. I really hope that you heal as quickly as possible. I'll be crossing everything for you to get the green light on the FET. (((hugs)))
  • @tinjp78 hey! So glad to see you made it over here!  I jumped to the July FET board after we got our 5 day update it was already crazy long, it took me forever to skim through all the pages!

Okay, I called the office today, but it looks like it is closed for the holiday and I would really hate to leave a page for the on call nurse.  I’ll ask this here in case anyone has asked their doctor the same question.  I have a crazy head cold and cannot breathe out of my nose at all.  I did like half a squirt of Afrin last night before bed so I could sleep because it felt like I was suffocating when I was laying down.  I would really like to take more Afrin or some sort of decongestant to get some more relief, but I am not sure of the general recommendation.  My last day of BCP is Saturday (FET is 30 days away), so I am leaning towards it is early enough that it won’t be a huge deal, but if this would be a bad thing I can just deal.  Has anyone had a cold a month before FET and allowed to take any particular cold medicines?

  • @ndz2018 ((hugs)) Really hope you get better soon!!! Looks like you'll have good company in August :-)

@becca07024411 I think you're good. You meds would be out of your system way before your FET, etc. Meds for FET aren't quite as sensitive as they are for egg retrieval. Mainly hormones now :)

  • @becca07024411 I would assume you are fine being 30 days out, but I don't really know.
@ndz2018 I'm sorry.  That is disappointing, but it sounds like the smart thing to do.  I hope you feel better soon.  Aug is not that far away!
@tinjp78 Sorry. I don't have any tips.  I have only used the ones with applicators. FX for you in your TWW.
@amy8686 I am trying for #1 (and most likely only). I don't have a problem with siblings being mentioned here. The only thing that gets me these days are pregnancy announcements or baby showers for people I know IRL.
@Drove2u Good luck tomorrow!  Sorry you are feeling doubtful.
It can and does happen, otherwise you wouldn't put yourself through all of this.
  • Thank you guys SOO MUCH for your kind works! This SUCKS!!!

    @tinjp78 Congrats on being PUPO!!!

I’m gonna sick around and cheer all you on  <3<3

@ndz2018 noooo! Not another delay!! So sorry. I hope you start feeling better. That sounds terrible. But welcome to the cheerleading section :)

@becca07024411 I wasn’t given medication restrictions before my FET just after. You should be ok especially this far out.

@tinjp78 congrats on your transfer. Your beta will be here before you know it!
