Re: July 2018 FET

  • Just catching up on my phone on the last couple days posts. NY vacation is going well so far with MIL and today I’m visiting a good friend undergoing chemo who I haven’t seen since we moved out of state nearly three years ago! Also, shared our IVF news with good friends at a party yesterday who TW** had a baby girl almost two years ago born with severe health issues undetectable while in utero before she breathed on her own and she became an angel on day two of her life, my friends have been through hell and we’ve hadn't seen them since their loss. We’ve always said they would be great parents but didn’t want to pry if they were trying again and she’s 43 like me...anyway last night they sat us down and announced they have their home visit next weekend for adoption and all four of us were crying and hugging, so so happy for them!**end TW**

I will try and keep up while I’m on vacation, 6 more days but thinking of all of you!

  • @kristimh80 It sounds nice to have locals to relate to.  Our clinic has support groups available, but I feel awkward going to one of those....like it would turn into a who's story is worse type thing....an idea probably perpetuated by movies and such.  My closest friends in real life know what we're doing, but other than one that used Clomid for baby #2, none of them come close to understanding.

@lizy181 yay for a date and good bloodwork.  Fingers crossed the July 7 appointment goes well.

@suziev3 that's weird with your estrogen levels.  I don't think I've seen those levels other than when I was stimming for retrieval....but they're always just good so I don't pay much attention.  Hope they figure it out.

@momifbysea that's great your friends are pursuing adoption.  I can't imagine the loss of a child after their born.  That has to be so hard to handle.  Glad your trip is going well.

@becca07024411 welcome to the July party!

AFM: we had my niece's high school graduation party Saturday - that made me feel old since I was her age when she was born.  The party was a little rough for me because there was a lot of extended family there and the last time I saw most of them I was announcing my pregnancy.  They were all very sensitive, but the weighted "How are you guys doing" questions over and over were a bit much.  And the "Just keep trying" advice....they have no idea what that means even if they do know we're going through IVF.  The party was at my childhood home though so there were plenty of places for me to hide away for awhile and then we used my dogs as an excuse to leave a bit early.  It just sucks when IF gets in the way of what should be a great occasion.  We are very close with my niece and nephews so I hated having the grey cloud over my head for her graduation.

  • @ChristenMA83 I get your feelings on that. I met these girls on the fertility page on facebook. Someone posted asking who was doing IVF / ER during that time and we all just happened to be doing it and decided to meet for dinner one night. Otherwise, I've sucked at attending their meetings / lunches. So I feel I got really lucky coming across these girls :) I'm so sorry you had to endure family and all of that this weekend. We had to deal with that after our failed transfer. So we decided this time we weren't telling any of them because they were all way too invested and nosy. Plus, if we fall pregnant, I'm planning to wait awhile to announce. I know it'll be exciting, but I'll be paranoid for awhile.

  • @kristimh80 @ChristenMA83 my therapist just turned me on to this program called Fruitful Fertility. It pairs mentors and mentees to discuss all things IF via text, email or in person. I signed up last week and hopefully I go through with it because it would be nice to have someone to talk to who 'gets it'. It might only be available in MN.. I'm not sure!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

I should be receiving all my meds on Tuesday (FX) and starting Lupron injections 6/30. We're spending a week at the cabin over the 4th so injections and family everywhere will be interesting. Anyone have any crazy side effects with Lupron? I haven't had that one before.

  • @madasm0530 I had dull headaches with Lupron but they went away once i started the stims. Small needles and not painful. A vacation sounds lovely right about now.  Enjoy!
@ChristenMA83 Sorry you had a rough time at the party.  It's something I'm sure most of us here can relate to unfortunately.

@madasm0530 I’ve been on Lupron for both my ER and first FET. The injection itself is super easy. I’ve done mine in the car, in a movie theater bathroom, and while on vacation. Takes about two minutes to do. I got a few hot flashes and headaches while on it and that’s it. Nothing too bad. You do have to keep refrigerated. I bought a case on amazon that has an ice pack and is insulated. Made it easier to take with me places and fit right in my purse.
  • @J1006 @suziev3 @kristimh80 Thanks so much! Sounds like they'll be pretty easy :)

  • @kristinmh80 wow! That’s cool that you’re involved in your church like that. We have been trying to go once a month but now it’s been months that we haven’t gone. Hopefully in the fall we will get better at that.  I think I’ve also mentioned how I had a work trip in the Netherlands and one of the girls who I met on this group ended up meeting me there. She lived two hours away from where I was going. We’re also all IG friends now too. And I hope to meet more of you throughout my travels.

suziev3 sucks you can’t take some time off but I’m sure you will be busy which will be a great distraction. Any news from doctor?

becca07024411 I hope you get a lot of good normal embryos! How much longer do you have to wait for the results now?

leilee101 congrats on getting things started!!

ndz2018 did you end up buying a car? What’d you get? Any news on the mosaics?

lizy181 congrats on getting your dates!! Whooo hoo!!

Momifbysea happy to hear your vacation is going well!! And I’m so sorry for your friends. That is just awful and I can’t imagine. It makes me so sad.

ChristenMA83 I know you probably had to go to your niece’s graduation and you wouldn’t have missed it but I think it’s brave for you to go!! I’ve definetly skipped out on events when I knew those certain people who would always ask when we’re going to have kids would be there. I just didn’t want to put myself through that and would just miss it.

madasm0530 Ive never been on Lupron but just wanted to say it’s exciting that you’re starting this!!  \

AFM: had BW and US this morning. All looked good in US but waiting for my BW results now. Will update when I get them and then I think my meds will change. I can’t believe transfer could potentially be next week.

  • Just got the call. Everything looks good with bloodwork. I increase the Estrace to 3mg twice a day--AM and PM. And continue with the baby aspirin. Next appt is Friday!
  • @Drove2u so exciting that you're labs looked good and you're sticking to schedule.
We had decided we would skip the 4th of July family get together for just this reason, but the graduation wasn't an option to skip.  It's over now though and no more of those get-togethers on the horizon for a bit.

  • @Drove2u So exciting to transfer next week. Start us off right!

Spoke with the doctor today.  They are just as confused as I am it seems.  So it's going to be BC for a week and then ultrasound and retest blood.  He is thinking of switching me to patches instead of pills, but I have never tried patches and I am concerned that my lining wont be thick enough.  Have any of you ever done the patches?  Thoughts?  I have done the pills many times and it has always been fine so I dunno.  I am assuming I will be early August at this point but I'll hang.
  • @suziev3 I have no experience with the patches.  I'm so sorry you're hitting this unexpected obstacle.

  • @ChristenMA83 I started Lupron on the 18th and just have had some dull headaches. Drinking more water has helped with those.  @J1006 my pharmacist said my lupron did not need to be refrigerated- maybe we are on different kinds??

@suziev3 I have done both pills and patches throughout my different cycles and did not see a difference with the patches and they were much easier than the pills.

AFM- sorry I have been MIA - I had a volunteer program I was volunteering for out of town for the last 2 weeks.  It was quite interesting having to bring my shots with me and make sure to get them on time - but did have a friend there that is a nurse so she gave me my shots everyday!!  I have my US and bloodwork on Wed. And then start patches along with lupron on Thursday.
  • @suziev3 So frustrating!  But maybe if your body produces a good amount of estrogen on its own, then you don't need anything too strong :)

As for Lupron, compounded Lupron has to go in the fridge, so probably the difference. I had it for my trigger shots and had a shorter shelf life than normal.

  • @suziev3 OH NO! Sorry no experience with patches but hopefully it's exactly what you will need to get your lining nice and thick!
  • no experience with lupron or patches so sorry cannot help those ladies who have questions about those!

I have a question about lining checks. So my baseline was 6/23 and lining check will not be until 7/6. Does anyone else have monitoring in between the two weeks of baseline and lining check? My AF came this weekend, and I thought it would be super light because I was only on BCP for like 12 days, but it's heavier than I thought it would be and I'm worried that my lining won't be building up thick enough. This is my first FET so not sure how this all works yet. I've requested to come in one day next week, just in case they want to up my estrace dose. Who knows if they'll let me!

@ChristenMA83 I know those situations allll to well. *TW* this weekend was my friend's daughter's one year old b-day party, and I remember when she told me she was pregnant I told her we had been trying and maybe we would get to be pregnant together. Ohhh the naivety... *TW*
@suziev3 it really must be the cyst, there is no other explanation. I have heard that BCP helps to shrink cysts for FX you won't need to be on it for too long! And have heard patches are better than pills for thickening lining, but have no personal experience
@Drove2u yay! Hope Friday's appt continues to show everything on schedule, FX things are all set for transfer next week!
  • @leilee101 I only have my baseline, then on CD 12 - 15 do a lining check before the FET. At the last appt, they will tell me when to start PIO. You should be fine, it sounds like they counted your CD 1 on The 23rd, so your FET is on CD 20. Since you're taking estrogen vaginally, it will go right into your system, so should be more potent than taken orally.

@leilee101 I had two lining checks before my last FET. I felt like I should have been seen more often too. I think we are just so used to going in all the time before ER....
  • @leilee101 @j1006 I also have very few appointments for FET cycle.  I think that's pretty standard. But I just proved to myself yet again that if I feel like I need to be seen then I should push for it.  You know your body better than they do.
@bpietronicco Where do the patches go?  Is it once a day or do they stay on longer?
  • ChristenMA83ChristenMA83 member

@leilee101 I didn't really have a baseline appointment.  I'll go in on 7/6 and 7/12 for monitoring before the 7/17 transfer.

In other news, my environmental labs have come in.  They are all normal.  I am not being poisoned by arsenic, lead, mercury or carbon monoxide...so that's good.  Now we just wait for the NK results to come back, hopefully this week.  And still waiting for the pharmacy, I told them I needed my meds by July 1 so I guess they're waiting until Friday to ship them.  I'll call tomorrow if I don't hear from them...really I don't start anything other than the estrace until 7/5 so I have time.

  • @ndz2018 I may be curios to find out how many of each gender we have, but I am not so sure about deciding or finding out gender before transfer.  I mean, if I am honest I do have a preference for a girl 1st and while I would be tempted to say if they did ask, I am not sure how I completely feel about deciding that.  I totally don’t have anything against doing it, but I am not completely set on it and I don’t think my husband really feels good about it (plus I think he secretly would prefer a male) and I think I would prefer to not know going into transfer, I think it would make it a lot harder if it didn’t work, especially if that was the only one of that gender.

@lizy181 @Drove2u Your dates seem so close!!

@ChristenMA83 I know that is so hard when people don’t know what kind of things to say and what is helpful and what is not.  That is the main reason I have asked my husband to keep this private.  I live in a small rural area (I grew up in a metro/city area) and it seems like people feel like they HAVE to say something or address situations of else they will be perceived as rude or non-caring, but honestly it would be better to just keep quiet.  My husband grew up like this and I have been trying to break him of this habit.  I have to remind him it is not about him, and even if he is being sincere, unless someone brings something up, let them enjoy themselves and not always bring crap up when that may be the 2 seconds they were able to forget about what they are going through.

@madasm0530 I did Lupron for my last ER.  I didn’t find it bad at all in terms of side effects.  It always left a small rash for about an hour after injection but would always go away after that.  It was the tiniest needle, but man, I must have had a bad batch because I think my needles were super dull, like it straight up bounced off my skin once.  I didn’t have to refrigerate mine either.

@leilee101 I had same thing as @kristimh80 Only a baseline and lining check the Friday before transfer.

The nurse called with my protocol and schedule yesterday.  Baseline is scheduled for 7/13, meaning if everything goes normal, transfer should be 8/2, which is my mom’s birthday, so I am hoping that brings us luck….well, actually we always joke how my mom is bad luck. Hmmmm, lol.  They scheduled an endo scratch for 7/2.  Is that common practice after a failed FET for any of you?  The 1st transfer wasn’t PGS tested.  I didn’t think I had a lining issue (it was ~ 9 mm 6 days before transfer last time).  I will do it if they recommend it, I just wish there was more definitive evidence that it is actually for sure helpful since I will be taking extra vacation time for it.  The follow up call after negative beta he mentioned other stuff to do differently like taking the estradiol as a suppository instead of orally, and I do know that is not uncommon, but only isn’t that if you have lining issues?

  • @ChristenMA83 Gotcha! Well def call then...usualy my pharmacy calls when they are sent new RX's anyways. With next Wed being a holiday, prob best to go ahead and get them :)

@becca07024411 That's great that you have a date already! I know a lot of people get endo scratches and swear they have helped with implantation. My RE doesn't usually do then, so had my ERFA biopsy earlier this month, so hoping that acts as the same thing. My 1st transfer failed as well, even with PGS...didn't seem to ever even implant. I'd ask your nurse about doing your estrogen vaginally. It gets in the blood stream faster, so can't hurt!

  • @suziev3 they have me put the patches on my lower back.  Some days I have one and leave it there for a couple of days and then switch it- at one point I will have 4 patches on at the same time.

@bebesparrow I hope your mock transfer went well. Mine is on the 17th.

@ChristenMA83 glad to hear that the environment isn’t poisoning you.

  • @bpietronicco Thanks for the info. I'll ask more about it on Sunday.
    @ChristenMA83 Yay, for no poison!
@becca07024411 I had an endo scratch with my first cycle because I was doing an ERA anyway, and I did get a BFP.  Who knows if that would have happened regardless, but I don't think it can hurt. I won't be doing it this time around since I'm not having a mock this time.
  • Had my mock transfer today and my doctor still had a somewhat difficult time threading the catheter through even after my cervical dilation on 6/15. I started getting nervous bc I kept thinking how it didn’t help and what if im going to have another failed FET but realized these things are just out of my control. Just have to let everything unfold the way God intended. My doc eventually got it in but it wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be, but again, it wasn’t as difficult as the first time.  Fingers crossed that it won’t be as bad for the transfer. Can’t believe it’s happening in 2 weeks!
  • @bebesparrow Hopefully on your transfer day, you'll get valium or something to hep relax everything. Least with the mock transfer, they know what they need to do and have their measurements, so FX for you that it all goes smoothly!

@bpietronicco that’s great news!! @bebesparrow FX that it’s easier on transfer day. Two weeks will be here before you know it!!

you guys, I think DH is going through a life crisis. He out of the blue wants to buy a motorcycle!  He’s never even been on one. He wants to go looking tonight. Usually I’m supportive when it comes to his grand ideas but this one I just can’t get on board with.  I think it’s a combination of a milestone birthday next month and the fact that he really hasn’t gotten over our CP from last FET.
  • @bpietronicco Awesome news!!

@J1006 Oh my!! Maybe go look "for fun" then tell him you'll think it over and get side tracked doing other stuff and conviently forget! LOL My DH will come up with random stuff as well...I always have to be the adult. Hope tonight goes well for you and the shopping! Maybe you can remind him that he's need practice and a motorcyle license :)

  • Hi ladies! I have a FET scheduled for August 1. I'm 100% percent going to stalk your board this whole month, so I'm hoping you don't mind me joining even though I'll be a day late. Plus, I've always wanted to be in a group that had a nifty spreadsheet (thanks @kristimh80).

    Losses and child mentioned:
We were lucky enough to succeed on our first IVF a few years back, and we're trying for a sibling. This is my 4th FET attempt from the embryos we made in my son's cycle. I've had two CP's and one cycle that got canceled because I ovulated when I wasn't supposed to (I hadn't even known that that was possible). I'm extremely burned out from the process, the losses, and the side effects (mainly from the PIO, ugh). I really would rather move to the adoption path at this point, but we are lucky enough to still have several frozen embryos left, and it's hard to give up on them. They're not PGS tested, but they're all well-graded and my RE doesn't know why they aren't working. So I've agreed to try one last time, and if this doesn't work, we will be embarking on an adoption journey.

I've been on birth control for a few weeks, and I start Lupron tomorrow.

@bebesparrow - Sorry to hear that the mock transfer was still difficult! I hope you will be pleasantly surprised at your actual transfer. My last cycle, I had a terrible mock transfer - my RE ended up having to clamp my cervix open - and yet on actual transfer day, he didn't have to do that and it went in fairly easily. Mapping things out in the mock transfer really helps. Valium too!

    November 2017 - FET #2 - Canceled
    January 2018 - FET #3 - Chemical
    August 2018 - FET #4 - BFN
Moving on to domestic infant adoption!
  • @amy8686 Welcome!!! <3 Yes, please stay and hang out with us! August 1st is basically July still...esp since all your meds will be July  Lots of girls here are teetering the July / Aug border with you! If this transfer doesn't work, I may start looking into the adoption process as well. More I've gotten into this all...it's become a lot more appealing, even though I know can be just as hard.

  • @amy8686 welcome! Glad to have you here with us!
  • @amy8686 I'm August 2nd so we will be right beside each other!
  • J1006J1006 member
@amy8686 welcome!! I’m not transferring until probably September but I’m still hanging out here :) DH and I have also started looking into the adoption process. I just up and information session for August with an agency. I’ve also started our portfolio just in case we need it. We have one embryo left and even if this one works we will most likely pursue adoption to complete our family.

@kristimh80  Crisis avoided! He came home and said he knows it’s ridiculous and that he would have no time to do the lessons and get a license. Not to mention his mother would kill him :)

  • @j1006 my mom rides a motorcycle with her boyfriend all the time and it makes me so nervous.  My grandma called them donor cycles and wouldn’t let any of her boys get them.
  • ChristenMA83 that’s good that you don’t have to go to any more get togethers. They’re the worst when you’re going through IF. That’s awesome about your environmental lab results! Hooray for no poison! Can you remind me again what NK tests are?

suziev3 I’ve never done BC pills or otherwise, but just wanted to say sorry you got delayed. But it sounds like just a slight delay.

bpietronicco lucky that you had a nurse friend there at your volunteer program. I’m dreading if there will be a day that I will have to inject myself. My DH always does it for me. So happy to hear you got another normal back!!

leilee101  I had my baseline, another appt, will have lining check and then transfer.

becca07024411 yay for getting a schedule. 8/2 will be here in no time! I’ve never had an endo scratch so can’t help there.

bebesparrow that’s great news that it wasn’t as bad as the first time and wow! Only two weeks away.

J1006 I agree with @kristimh80 humor him for a bit and once it really comes down to it, I would put your foot down. Eeeek!!

amy8686 welcome!! We are also doing it this time for a sibling. This will be our first try and I’m already dreading it’s going to take multiple times. We have 4 embryos left. I think that’s great that you keep going with your embryos. Don’t give up!!

AFM: I have my lining check tomorrow. Praying it goes well and I don’t get delayed. Then I start Medrol, decrease the Estrace and the fun part: PIO!! We’re going away this weekend so it’ll be interesting carrying all of these meds around and doing the injections. The good news about PIO is that they’re having me do it between 6am-8am so at least it has to get done first thing in the morning. I’ll update you all tomorrow after my appt. Just a few more days until transfer…I hope!
