@EErin86 this is a good recipe. The grated onion is my secret ingredient. Pre-grated cheese has a weird coating and won’t work as well as if you grate from the block. Be sure to use a sweet yellow onion and add in the juice from grating it as well. I use much less mayo than this says, as I prefer a more solid consistency than a shmear. We love pimento cheese on crackers, as grilled cheese, or bacon pimento burgers. https://www.southernliving.com/food/kitchen-assistant/pimiento-cheese-recipes
@SkilledSailor that would be great if he could find a job with similar benefits. I can definitely carry all of us on my insurance, we just don't have as many options and it's not as good of coverage. So we shall see!
Also, WTF to your worker. Men are so ridiculous. DS is cutting his last molars and has a cold to accompany it (as always), and my H has been all about kissing/hugging him. I told him to take some echinacea so he can maybe not get sick and he was all "I don't feel like it, it'll happen anyway". Ugh, okay fine be stubborn.
@jaylii Sorry to hear about your dog. Our dog used to get them before he went on food the vet suggested. The first time he had one I felt horrible about how bad it was. The vet gave him a shot and an antibiotic. I felt horrible not realizing he had one.
@EErin86@spottedginger I like mine a little spicy! Not sure I've ever had it with gouda included, but there are a lot of variations. I think this is the recipe I have used before (in spoiler).
Shred 1 pound sharp cheddar Dice 1/2 cup roasted red peppers Dice 1/4 cup jalapenos 1.5 cups mayonaise 1 tsp tabasco Mix well Serve on bread or with pita chips Enjoy! Courtesy: Taziki's
@samd6 +1 for maternity leave countdown! It's also on my list to schedule a prenatal massage...I hope you enjoy yours when you go!
@SkilledSailor Calling out for a cold?! Men are such babies. Maybe he just didn't want to get you sick Glad the job was pushed back though so you don't have to worry about it!

@southernlady07 yes! @EErin86 Definitely add a couple dashes tabasco and 1/8 tsp cayenne to spice it up.
Hahahaha except I can't handle spicy!!! It seems similar to other cheese spreads I've had but never thought about what's in. I'm pretty excited for cheese!
FFTC: I don't like cheese dips or spreads. Or, honestly most dips or spreads. You guys have all this pimento cheese you want, it sounds awful to me. I'm weird.

@southernlady07 Yeah, I know. But really, I totally LOVE CHEESE!!! I just hate condiments, I pretty much don't dip anything in anything. And can't stand mayo or mustard even in things. So out of the recipe above...I don't like/eat mayo, pimentos, raw onions.
Cheese on crackers or sausage, hell yes! But no dips for me. I have a rough time at summer grilling events, because usually all I eat is the fruit/veggie tray plus whatever meat is being grilled. No dips, so I try to avoid the chips so that there's enough for people who do like dip, and no pasta or potato salad.

@samd6 Definitely counting down till maternity leave...it's about 7-8 weeks away. And I've been wanting to do a prenatal massage, it sounds like heaven right now.
@lpq0309 Yes! Definitely get a prenatal massage. I got one for the first time on Sunday and it was amazing! I was so relaxed that I almost fell asleep. The baby was kicking duing it and that was really cute. The whole thing felt great. I had swelling in my feet before the masssage that seems to have really gone down since.
@EErin86 my favorite store bought brand is palmetto cheese. You can get it at some pick and saves in WI. Google them and you can put in your location and it will tell you where it is available. It is definitely best from scratch.
@pourmeamocktail I like dips/spreads but I am not a big condiment fan. My H on the other hand loves condiments and puts a ton on everything!
I don’t remember where I commented about putting in a garden in spite of plannimg to skip this year... so I’m just gonna add to that thought here:
The reason I’m cringing is because I LOVE my garden each year, and am already driving dd and internal dd and prolly dh crazy because now I want to weed it properly, water it often, and basically do more than I really should... it’s just winter squash, they don’t need any tlc and just get picked and stored come harvest.
I get a bit obsessive. It’s not something I ever thought I would fall for, but really, I find so much enjoyable about the whole process. I really hope next baby is cooperative enough for me to have a full garden next year. We have about 30’x30’ fenced in and when we need to we electrify it at night to keep the deer out... last week the deer ate my hostas, that are right outside my door... and we have a dog loose outside 24/7... he’s fairly useless, and the deer have him figured out.

@jhjocelyn I typically enjoy my flower beds that much. It’s a stress reliever to go out on Saturday morning and weed and tend to my flowers. This year I really didn’t plant much and it’s been so hot I’ve kind of ignored it. Also, the deer ate the tops off half my lilies! I was so sad because now of course I will get to blooms.
@jhjocelyn I have a garden too that I love. After a long day at work, dealing with plants all day, I love coming home to my plants/garden. This year I've been slacking a bit and just have tomatoes and hot peppers. I planted garlic for the first time this year but it didn't seem to take. I got my H into helping me weed and water. I plan on teaching the baby as soon as I can about planting a garden and stuff.
@klj0228 Deer ate my lilies last year, too! We did the bar soap trick and haven't had any issues (yet) this year. It has been so hot though we have been watering our flower planters 3x/day to keep them alive.

@lpq0309 I've been gardening with my toddler since he was about 1.5. It's.... Interesting, lol. I love that I can share something that is a big part of my life with him, but oh my gosh I've have had to learn to let go a lot! He totally plants seeds at the wrong depth, 6 in one hole then none for 2 feet, waters the yard next to the garden or the directly on top of a tiny new sprout, ect... But he's doing it! It also took a while to teach him not to pull the plants up or to not crush them, rip them, whatever, but he's pretty gentle now at 2.5. He gets so excited to run out and check his garden or to tell people what he's growing in it
@stothi dd loves to garden too! The last 2 years she’s beem really involved and actually almost helpful. We set up her sandbox and kiddie pool just outside the garden, and when she was younger it was a playpen. It kept her entertained long enough for me to keep up w most of the weeding and harvesting.

@southernlady07 What's the bar soap trick? Do you break it up into smaller pieces and leave it around the garden? Does it work to repel bunnies, too?

@stothi that’s cute. We don’t garden, but DS loves to help me weed the yard. He’s still working on telling the difference between weeds and plants though, so it’s a work in progress. Lucky for him, the yard is mostly weeds these days
@starla We placed a bar of soap right in behind our stone garden edging and the scent deters them! We have had issues with bunnies too (mostly in our vegetable garden) and it seems to have kept them away from our lilles this year.
"The best known deer repellent is ordinary bar soap. Hung from strings in trees or large shrubs, whether wrapped or unwrapped, the scent of the soap is said to keep deer away. Some people even attach soap bars to stakes, placed at 10- to 15-foot intervals along the perimeter of their property or garden area."-HGTV https://www.hgtv.com/design/outdoor-design/landscaping-and-hardscaping/deter-deer-in-the-garden

@stothi Awww that's awesome! I can't wait to teach my daughter stuff. My H wants to build her a little garden once she's a little older. Speaking of my H, teaching him about gardening is like teaching a toddler lol
It's 2 pm, been at work for 8+ except the two 15 minute trips I ran out to the chiropractor and to grab food. I got food at 12:30pm, and I'm just now eating it. Also just realized I haven't had a single drop of caffeine all day. Currently trying to figure out if I have time to run to the gym before getting on the phone and trying to plan a last minute fishing trip we had to postpone last week, but now have time for because my boyfriend gets home Thursday. Next week I'm traveling all week with my boss and upper management to support our safety program and visit some of our remote sites/offices. The only upside to next week is I'm traveling to Ketchikan, AK, a town I've always dreamed of visiting but never thought I'd have the chance I love my job but boy I cannot wait until September when I'm at home with my newborn running my reports, nose in my spreadsheets, quietly enjoying my tea and all the food rather than on the front lines putting out fires. Construction season in Alaska is brutal
@samd6 I'm not even taking maternity leave. I'm just counting down the days until I get to move my office to my house for 6 months and the only way they can find me is by phone or email
I'm wondering if I'll ever regain my motivation at work before going on maternity leave. It's going to be a long 12 weeks until I get there! I'm day dreaming of 4 day weeks this summer with no chance of getting them. Boo.
Made yummy beef and broccoli stir fry tonight that everyone enjoyed, which is always a bonus. This probably belongs in the what I'm eating thread but oh well.
@nlc8424 It is definitely hard to be motivated the closer it comes to September. Unfortunately I don’t have some secret for you because I am struggling too! And the pregnancy brain is making it even harder when difficult things are going on.
@nlc8424@klj0228 I’m seriously struggling with motivation at work. I have horrible pregnancy brain! I still care about work, but I also can’t remember a thing! I’m not eagerly counting down til maternity leave though because I am so not ready! I haven’t finished my registry yet! The nursery is cleared and painted thankfully, but I have no idea what to put in it. I haven’t signed up for birthing classes yet. Agh!
@magnolia209@klj0228 I'm in a good place with my work projects for the most part, so I think that's why I'm becoming more relaxed. One big project likely won't happen before I leave, I'd love for it to take off, but there's not quite enough support for it from several people to really move forward. I'm a bit disappointed but my coworker and I have put a lot of effort into this and have had a lot of road blocks thrown at us, so it's not from lack of effort.
Also @magnolia209 do yourself a favor and check out Lucie's List website for registry help. She spells it out quite nicely for all the major and minor necessities.
Yea, @nlc8424@magnolia209 things are relatively slow for me right now too. I have decided to torture myself and pack my main client reports and meetings into a short time frame so that I am only crazy busy for a short time then things are settled.
Today at work, I normally work remote but am visiting my corporate office this week, they threw me a surprise baby shower. Instead of giving me gifts that I have to transport home on the plane they ordered them on amazon and just printed pictures and put those in a box. I love my coworkers, but would not expect them to do anything since I am remote and only work with a couple of them on a daily basis.
Totally random question that I suppose fits in several threads. Anyone seen a place to buy replacement fabric for infant carriers? We are reusing our UPPA baby MESA and I’ve read that you can get fabric/liner replacements but I can’t find them anywhere online. Anyone seen them in passing?
I tried the smoothie king Premama smoothie yesterday. (I usually roll my eyes bc of all the sugar in smoothies, but carb loading for Monday’s test sooo....) It was good! The small cost as much as a meal, but if anyone is still seriously struggling with prenatals or iron, it would be a good thing to test. It has a Premama prenatal vitamin and organic spinach mixed in.
@spottedginger Yum! I went through a serious smoothie kick a couple of months ago. Now that it's hot as hell out, I think I'll start back up on that kick. I want my lunches to be nutritious and cold.
