We never used a RnP - tried a friend’s and both kids hated it. They also hated swings. We have a bassinet we’ve always used early on (my daughter slept in her crib from day one, my son coslept with me and moved to the bassinet). I’m only planning on a Halo swivel bassinet because we rearranged things and I now have space for one!
@kayjay44 my kids hated swings too.. and swaddling.. and pacifiers. They did like RnPs though. I wanted to try the Halo bassinet but hate to spend the money if this one hates everything like big bro and sis.
@cmjenkies - totally get it. I just wish someone had made it more clear to me that they really do have minds of their own and know what they like since birth. Neither of my kids to pacifiers either and we could only swaddle with those arms up ones or nuroos. Neither of which is cheap.
UGGGHH so in my haste to let my sister know as soon as possible that I'll probably need my stuff back I texted it to her this morning on a group text with BIL too. I had told my sister I was pregnant but not BIL and had asked her not to tell. Our parents don't even know yet. Well, eff. Oh well, right?
Then I was stressing over her response. She's pretty laid back so I expected something like "oh yeah/sure/of course/np" but instead I got: "Aren't you supposed to be sleeping now?"
This was just after briefly discussing her baby shower. We are going to have it in a facility in her neighborhood but apparently only neighborhood residents can book the place so now she is booking her own shower venue and I told her to let me pay her back at least but still I feel like a terrible host and now I feel like a terrible sister too.
So snowballing into all that now I'm stressing about this pregnancy and was it really a great idea in the first place even though we've been trying and wishing for it for years. Effing hormones. Just STOP IT self
Less than 48 hours into finding out I'm pregnant and I'm already a hot mess. I feel like a terrible person.
So far I have bought two packs of receiving blankets, a thick blanket, a changing table pad and covers, some gender neutral room decor and some onesies.
@notthecheat I would let her use the stuff that she’ll only need for the newborn period but ask for the main stuff back. If she knows you’re pregnant she should just give it back.
Thanks everyone. ❤️ I had a chance to talk to her on the phone this evening and I feel a lot better. Not 100%, because I am my own worst critic. But at least I'm not stressing.
DD is only 10 months old and we bought all non-gender specific items for her aside from clothes. We will probably hold off on buying things aside from maybe starting a diaper and wipe stash until we know what & how many we are having. I may go ahead and get a second convertible carseat now. It will be useful for when LO arrives and that way DH and I can both have a convertible car seat in our vehicles for DD.
While TTC I would buy little things here and there, mainly things that could easily be gifted to someone. But with Babies R Us closing permanently we just bought our first big item. But we waited until our ultrasound first. So yesterday after our appointment we headed to BRU and bout a stroller travel system originally $449.99 for $180.00.
we are going to try another store today for a bassinet or pack n play. We are moving about 4 months after baby arrives so we aren’t buying a crib until then.
This is baby #3 for me but I unfortunately got rig of ALL my baby stuff after #2. Probably won’t be having any sort of shower/sprinkle but I’m starting a (private for now) Babylist registry to keep a running list of items I need or am interested in. Not planning on actually starting to buy anything until I am WAY further along. I really want to try and be selective and not buy a whole bunch of stuff that we don’t need.
I have two other LOs (4 and 2) but I literally donated ALL the baby things like four months ago, haha. So I will have to resupply but I'm more comfortable waiting until further along.
This is us too. We have 6 &3. I just donated everything. Clothes, shoes, cloth diapers, toys. Our stroller is old as dirt. I think we have a crib and pnp (idk where the infant attachment is). We'll have to start over also.
I saved and vacuum sealed a shit ton of clothes. Saved a lot. I’ve got blankets, bassinet, a jumpy thing. Really only need a car seat. I will be getting a FTG Tula, maybe a Dockatot, new swing. Bottles eventually.
We have most of the essential items from DD, however with BRU closing and the ridiculous sales, it’s hard not to shop a little. I scooped up an extra infant car seat for my mom’s car. The price was too good not to get it.
We had a Graco click connect system with DD but it's expired now. I may get the same thing again unless anyone has any recommendations for another infant car seat? TIA
We saved everything else so luckily I'm pretty set.
I made my first baby related purchase yesterday: a pair of socks for DH's grandmother to unwrap as our announcement! In the store we were picking up onesies and bibs and it was all very very surreal. I think that'll be it for a while though. I'll be diligently doing my research and figuring out what we need and want when it finally feels right.
This will be my first baby, so we have nothing - except for the 4 onesies I purchased from my favorite musician's webstore this past year, not even expecting yet (I have zero chill). DH won't let me buy anything until we are further along. However, as it's the first grandbaby on both sides, and that I will be having 2 showers (families live in NY & PA, neither like to travel, lol) I'm hoping we don't need to buy too much of the big stuff ourselves. Hopefully he will let me redo the kitchen counters and floors over the summer if that's the case!! (I know it won't get done once the baby comes)
We don’t need much, since this is baby #3. A new infant car seat, a new Rock n Play, and maybe a Mamaroo (which I’ll probably try to buy used). We are about to undergo a massive home renovation, so I won’t buy anything until after that is complete (hopefully November).
For all you first time moms, I found the Baby Bargains book to be very helpful when researching stuff for my 1st way back.
I bought a pack n play, with the bassinet and changing table attachments. I wanted to wait until the second trimester, but with baby's r us going out of business, they just had such amazing deals. I got it 70% off. It was literally their very last one. We looked at car seats too, but they had already pretty much sold out.
Might I also add, most major cities have large baby warehouse consignment sales that are worth finding out when they occur. In the Dallas area in Texas the big one is in September. I plan on going.
Meanwhile - my purchases have been a new dishwasher & a roomba - AND - I’ve got my 8 yr old now loading & unloading the dishwasher, mopping & wipe the counters for an allowance. #winning
I bought a Graco uno2duo stroller and the extra seat a $400 set up for $130 and it works with the infant seat we already have. I have an 11 month old so I’m using it as single stroller for now but can extend it when the new little one comes.
@conchispita I bought my husband one too! He now uses it almost daily (we have a one year old) it literally took me about six months to convince him to try baby wearing though
