Re: Buying stuff!!!

  • I want to, but I don't want to, but I want to!

Right now I'm convincing myself to wait until we tell people so that I can crowdsource opinions. Both my sister and brother have had babies in the last two years so they'll have stuff to pass along and valuable opinions.

  • DS is 11mo so we have everything.  We plan to find out this time (though, we're not telling anyone...just to drive MIL crazy).  Once we know, I will buy some gender specific things.

  • I have two other LOs (4 and 2) but I literally donated ALL the baby things like four months ago, haha.  So I will have to resupply but I'm more comfortable waiting until further along.

Oh my gosh! What are the odds?!
  • Uhh YEP!  I hit up Babies R US and got a carseat super cheap.

  • Nope. We don’t need anything.
  • We have everything from DD. The only thing I’m in the market for is a good deal on a double stroller. DD is only 11 months so we’ll get some use out of it.
  • @ginger1228. What is the irony?  I bought H a running stroller for fathers day...when we were waiting for #2 to buy a double runner.

  • DD is 2 and I gave away several totes full of all of her NB - 18m clothes a month or so ago. We do still have her crib and her infant seat which isn’t expired yet so we should maybe be okay on most of the gear.
  • Oh there is one thing we might buy...a minivan.
  • I’ve been buying winter maternity clothes because I’m excited for that! But no baby stuff yet.

I traded in my cool mom card along with my beloved 17 Civic Hatchback last month and bought an 18 Sienna XLE AWD. It was physically painful at the time.. but man, those sliding doors are love. I banished my big kid to the rear row so he can’t kick the back of my seat anymore. It’s magical.

We bought a cross over and I’m so in love with it having a third row is amazing
  • @cmjenkies I traded in my 2012 hatchback Ford Focus for a 2016 Honda Odyssey. Best. Decision. Ever. Love the sliding doors (don’t have to deal with people getting annoyed your door is open while you’re putting your kid in the car seat) and the oodles and oodles of room! Also not having to climb down and squeeze in the back seat to strap in DD is such a relief. That back seat was TINY!
  • 2  months ago, I bought sheep wall decor and a big brother shirt for my son.
  • Yep! Between Babies R Us and Target's clearance section I've gotten a few things so far. I traded in my old infant carseat and got a new travel system right before Babies R Us started liquidating.

  • Nope (but I just bought prenatals because I had none) - we really don't need much with two kids already. Also, we're team green, so we won't buy much clothing wise until 3.0 is here.

I am planning on buying (must haves):
    - A squatty potty (just trust me on this one)
    - Halo swivel bassinet
    - New, nice maternity jeans (since I wear jeans every day)
    - Kit for our City Mini GT Double to use infant seat with
    - 2 new Dionos for DH's car so we can do 3 across
    - Seasonal clothes for 3.0 (because our other babies are summer babies)

Will probably buy (but don't need):
    - More maternity tops
    - A thicker Wildbird ring sling
    - More baby clothes than I need :D

We haven’t bought anything big, but we told my mom and she’s already went to Babies r us to look at pack n plays and stroller options. We are going to wait til our ultrasound next week before we make any big purchases.
  • @m1troy - I would wait until major sales before purchase anything also. Black Friday has the absolute best deals, but I can understand not wanting to wait that long since it's close-ish to term.

I don’t might waiting, but with babies r us closing they have some great deals.
  • What automatic Rock n play do you guys recommend? I've always used a bassinet and DD & DS hated it! I want to try the Rock n play with LO.
  • @kayjay44 do you love your double city mini gt? I have the single now but am looking at this for when baby comes- DD will be 3 so I don’t know how much use we will get with a double stroller but honestly just for like zoo trips, anytime we’re out at least she would have a place to sit!
  • I bought a nursing pillow and a crib. Both for $25 total. This is baby four. We have NOTHING left since our youngest will be six this year. My experience taught me to go bare minimum. So we will have diapers, wipes, a crib, a car seat, nursing pillow and about 6 outfits total per size.
  • @kayjay44 you crack me up. "Will probably buy but don't need" :-D

As far as jeans, I'm kinda excited to try Good American p jeans. Anyone tried 'em?

  • DH just dried the wildbird in the drier, so I guess we are buying another one of those now...
  • @nursemom913 - We LOVE it! We have an inline double (Britax) but got the City Mini GT double because the kids fight over who sits on top and bottom. We're going to Disneyland in September and I didn't want to have fights over who sat where. My daughter is 4 and still rides a lot, but that depends on the kid. I will probably babywear a lot at the beginning with 3.0, so we probably will keep using it for the older two until our oldest doesn't really want to ride any more. We might try the stroller board, too.

It handles well, is shockingly narrow, is easy to fold and isn't too heavy. The only con I see is price. I was lucky to score mine online on sale at Target for about $75 off and got an additional 5% off with my red card. We tested the GT double and regular double and the GT double is worth the extra cost.

  • Oh, I need a new Boppy, too. My husband used mine for video gaming and left it out and one of the kids puked on it while sick without a cover, so I tossed it. I used it for my first two, so I know I'll use it.

  • And a tip, before you go out and buy a spendy pregnancy pillow, buy a cheap body pillow or king size. I bought a snoogle the first time (like $40-50) and HATED it.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I just want another one  :D I have a linen single and linen double.

Oh and DH lost my Tula at the airport (which I prefer to the Ergo, so we need one). Fuck, I forgot how expensive this can get.

  • @kayjay44 @conchispita

I mean.. I may or may not already have 4 WC Tulas, a canvas Tula, a Tula woven ringsling, a Tula wrap, and a Fidela fly tai from my now 2yo. (One of my Tulas is a toddler). I clearly need to refresh my stash tho.. right?  :D

I have bought nothing, lol. My friend who had a baby this February is loaning me her bassinet. I’m very grateful for her!

I did walk through the baby section of target and almost cried because I couldn’t believe this is actually happening to me :)

I'm going to try buying a minimal amount of things. I'm a part of my local Buy Nothing Facebook group, and I plan to join a similar group for local parents and expecting parents once I'm further along. Babies outgrow stuff so fast! There's no way I won't be able to find some excellent freebies. Anyone else planning on doing this?

Me! I plan to hit a lot of garage sales this summer. Also, consignment stores for maternity clothes because a lot of times they’re in great condition because you only get to wear them for a few months. I’m also going to hit up goodwill for kids books. I have found so many great ones! I love books so I need a library ;)

I’ll have to check and see if my area has a buy nothing Facebook group. Thanks for the idea.
  • So, here's the deal. I saved pretty much everything from my first pregnancy. After TTC for 1.5 years with nothing but crickets, I lent all my stuff to my sister about 6 months ago who was TTC. She is due with her first on October 6.

...do I ask for my stuff back? She is more well off than I am and could replace more easily than I. And I mean, it is my stuff, but I feel like it's kind of a dick move to take stuff back when she's more than halfway through. She does have a baby shower coming up in August...  :/

    Please advise
  • My sister had a baby in October, I have no problem asking for my stuff back. You know your sister better than we do, but I think she’d understand.
  • We don’t need to buy any as DD is 17 months old. I have loaned out most of it but with the caveat that I would need everything back.

@notthecheat I would definitely let her know that you’ll be needing age appropriate items that you *loaned* her back.

  • @notthecheat I don't see why not. I'm sure she will understand. If there is anything that she could use and be done with before you need it, let her do so. And just make sure you give her as much warning as you can!

I have the Fischer Price RnP Auto.  It can be a little loud but it was a game changer.  I only let him nap in the RnP but he would sleep longer in there vs the PnP.
