@bdream0916 Did you never have chickenpox in your lifetime? Am I that old that I remember having chickenpox and having to be hospitalized for it because I ended up so sick?
I remember the chicken pox being awful despite mine being a relatively mild case. I remember crying from the pain of the itchy bumps and having to be completely quarantined so my siblings wouldn’t get it. My mom has told me cringe-worthy stories about when she got the measles as a kid, too. Why in the world would anyone risk their kid having to go through that?
Exactly!!! And not to mention, now that we've had chickenpox were at a risk of developing shingles as we get older. My brother has already had shingles and I remember visiting him and him being in so much pain he could barely lay on his couch.
Ladies, something is not wrong with me. We just have differing ideas of what is healthy and what is not. You believe vaccines are more good than harm, and that is totally great. I believe they are more harm than good. I have had chickenpox. I did not say I wish harm on any of your kids. I was trying to keep it lighthearted because things have been so tense on here the last 24 hours.
Babies die from pertussis. Do you get that? Your jokes aren't funny.
Look, I'm not going to get into it with you guys. I never said I wish any child to become sick. I have had every vaccine you could ever think of. What I said is I'm giving my baby some time to be alive before I vaccinate it. I'm sorry I offended you guys. I can see that the gif was misplaced. But let's not make this into "she wants babies to have diseases".

The moment you made that inappropriate sick joke was when you took all of this further, actually and involved yourself even deeper than any other ladies on here who may not be pro-vaccine. So don’t say you won’t get into it with us when you basically put yourself in this mess in the first place. Don’t blame us for getting worked up over your stupid comment. There is seriously something so off with you.
Being a nurse, I have met people who have shingles, pertussis, and chicken pox. I have plenty in older patients who had measles, mumps, and/or rubella when they were younger. I have also met people who are permanently paralyzed from Guilin-Barre syndrome due to the flu vaccine, and who have had permanent brain damage from a reaction to the MMR vaccine. My cousin’s child was permanently paralyzed by the HPV vaccine and later took his own life. I’m not saying that there are no risks to the illnesses, simply that there are risks to both sides and that those risks shouldn’t be ignored.
Many people are surprised to learn my take on vaccines. They meet me and see that I’m a nurse, and a nerdy, super well-researched one at that, and they assuse I toe the line in vaccines. But it is precisely because I am a super well-researched nerd that my views on vaccines changed. I knew the risks for sometime before I openly spoke about them. See, I never said anything to my cousins about the risks of the HPV vaccine, and I wonder to this day I I had, would she have questioned it had I said ssomething? Would it have made a difference? Would her sweet boy still be with us?
If anyone one is interested in beginning to look into the science, here is a list to get you started- (I am not a person who copies and pastes list I find elsewhere. I have personally read hundreds of studies and am hand-picking a few to post here based on which ones seem a little easier to understand without needing an extensive medical background, because I know most people don’t have that.) Also, I encourage people to read what the data actually shows rather than what the writers of the study “concluded.” You will get more accurate and less bias information that way.
Infant mortality rates increase with number of vaccines administered-
@emmaaa This whole thing saying sparky said she salty as an excuse is BS. If you noticed I didn't ask for her u/o and if she could have pmed me. Babies die from pertussis. Do you get that? Your jokes aren't funny.
My friend’s baby died as a reaction to the flu vaccine. My cousin’s child took his own life 3 years after being permanently paralyzed and ventilator dependent from a reaction to the HPV vaccine. There are 2 sides to vaccines and we are simply bringing up the side people don’t like to look at.
So if vaccinated people, especially recently vaccinated people, are more likely to pass pertussis to your kids than an unvaccinated person (especially one who isn’t sick and therefore cannot transmit disease,) then why would you say that anyone who wants to be around your kid should get the TDaP?
What in the sources you cited shows that vaccinated people are a greater risk for spreading the disease than non vaccinated people? Admittedly, they were quite long so maybe I missed something, but I didn't see any support for that conclusion.
Also, how do you explain the vastly overwhelming support for vaccines among the medical community as a whole, epidemiologists, the CDC, and every other equivalent agency throughout the world? They can't all be part of some vast conspiracy.
It was this post, with these studies to back it up-
As a brief explanation, pertussis is a bacteria, not a virus. It’s not the bacteria itself that causes the symptoms, but a toxin secreted by the bacteria. Because of this, the body produces antibodies, not against the pertussis bacteria, but against the toxin secreted by the bacteria since this is what actually harms the body. Because of this, a person who has been vaccinated for pertussis within the past year may not experience as severe of symptoms due to having antibodies against those toxins, but they will still be able to contract the bacteria and pass it to others. They can infect others without even realizing they are doing so, because they don't know they are sick. Therefore, a person vaccinated for pertussis poses a far greater risk to others, particularly immunocompromised individuals, because they won't even know to stay home or stay away from others because they won't know they are sick. Lacey flat-out refused to believe me, or look at my sources. Here are the sources showing that pertussis is a bacteria, not a virus, and that it's the toxin secreted by the bacteria that makes us sick (source is the National Institute of Health.) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK7813/

I’m sorry you had so many experiences in your life where you have seen how vaccines have harmed those that you know. I also do respect that you did a lot of research to learn more about vaccines but I really think this topic ends here as it is not achieving all that much. Agree to disagree is really the end point here. I’m already ticked off that someone, anti vaxxer, like yourself would joke about the other anti vaxxers in the community. This discussion needs to end at some point and some point soon.

Because they’ve watched a child go through this from a vaccine reaction- The middle picture is before, the first picture is from when he was hospitalized due to his reaction and the last one is 3 years later when he’s still trached and ventilator dependent. This is my cousin’s child.
I just got caught up on this thread and man oh man. I can't even decide what to say lol
@libertymomrn are you anti all vaccines or just certain ones. You may have said that somewhere and I just missed it. Also it's very unfortunate that you have known so many people who have had reactions to vaccines, I don't t know anyone whose ever had a bad reaction. And @bdream0916 you mentioned waiting till your babies immune system is stronger to vaccinate...are you planning on delayed vaccination or not vaccinating at all. I'm curious why you would think that waiting would help seeing that you had your reaction when you were 15 and already had a well established immune system.
@drabong88 I am planning on more of a delayed schedule if I do vaccinate. I know it's not fool proof, but I feel like it's a bit better than giving a baby 14 shots by the time they are 6 months old, which is the recommended schedule. I didn't have my first shots until 12. And then when I was 15 I got some very heavy hitting shots, for international travel, within two weeks. I don't have all the answers but I've done a lot of research and DH and I feel like it's the better way to go, at least for now.

There's been an ongoing issue with her reading the entirety of posts or just taking out of them what she wants.
She's made a third of all threads on just the first page of our BMB but I'm the AW. Okay.

I am new to TB and this conversation is making me very anxious about participating. I would never create a random thread about something I could easily find in the existing ones, but God forbid someone make a mistake,to the be public chastised for it by multiple people.

I specifically said I have nothing against you. More than once. You kept it up so yeah I'm annoyed by you now. I'll get over it and we'll get along fine. The fact that you don't read posts or just choose what to read from the posts bothers me because there were several times I had to re-address what I said. That's annoying. I said very early on on this board that I will address things with people. I probably could have sent you a PM but you weren't the only one I was talking about so as I've said, it's not about YOU. It was the overall board dynamic of what you and others do. I don't know if anyone else saw in themselves what I was talking about but because you did I addressed it personally to you. I really think if you go back and reread the original posts with objective eyes you will see it wasn't just you I was talking about.
Wow. I wasn't expecting 40- some unread posts when I logged back in after traveling!
I think refusing to vaccinate your child to avoid a statistically minuscule risk, while simultaneously admitting that you rely on herd immunity to prevent your kid from getting vaccine - preventable diseases, is so extraordinarily selfish. By weakening herd immunity, you are endangering people who legitimately can't get vaccines or who are immune compromised.
Oh, and I'm shocked that there are people old enough to have kids of their own that have never met anyone who has had chicken pox. But you know what you have to thank for that? Vaccines!
Finally, @libertymomrn, serious question - are you meeting your friends who have kids with negative vaccine reactions at anti -vaxxer conferences or forums? I'm not denying you know them or that these negative reactions happen, but they are SO rare that the odds of you just happening to be personal friends with three families that have had these types of reactions are astronomically low. Considering your other posts about medical and political activism in other areas, it seems more likely that you would have met them at a conference or something.
I wasn’t going to say anything but I agree with something you said @AshVA (maybe more than some lol)- it seems like antivaxxers think they figured out a life hack. They get to avoid the very small risk of harm associated with getting the vaccine AND they get to not get the disease because the rest of us DID get the vaccine. I mean, it’s so smart we should ALL just do that..! Wait a minute...

The 2 people who have had children pass away from the flu vaccine, I met at a candlelight vigil for my cousin’s child.
All the others I’ve mentioned (Guillan-Barre syndrome, brain damage,) have been patients I’ve met in my work as a nurse. But the patients and families only confided in me that it was initially a vaccine injury after they trusted me.
I really didn’t mean to hi-jack this thread and suck all the fun out of it. I think I’ll go start a “post a funny pregnancy cartoon or joke” thread to make up for it.
I just can’t believe people don’t vaccinate their children. From a selfish standpoint, if my child ever contracted measles, or pertussis, or polio or any other disease that could be deadly and I knowingly chose not to vaccinate, I would not be able to live with that guilt. If my child has a terrible vaccine reaction I will still be upset and heartbroken, but I will know that I was doing the best I could to protect them from KNOWINGLY deadly diseases. Terrible things happen to good people and wonderful children all the time. But I refuse to rely on others immunity to protect my children, when the chance of them negatively reacting to a vaccine is so so low. I refuse to believe that healthcare providers for so many years are all in on some conspiracy and don’t have the public health and best interest in mind. I have never contracted these deadly diseases because I was vaccinated and I am healthy today, because vaccines work.
I really didn’t mean to hi-jack this thread and suck all the fun out of it. I think I’ll go start a “post a funny pregnancy cartoon or joke” thread to make up for it.
I think prompting this kind of debate is half the reason the UO thread exists lol
I know this isn’t my place, but I cannot sit idly by with this rubbish. Since we’re sharing pictures, this is my son after his open heart surgery.
*deleted photo*
This was his 3rd surgery in 6 months. It is because of people like you @libertymomrn that I had to quit my job and care for him full time as he cannot risk getting exposed to diseases. He gets the flu, he dies. As simple as that. My husband actually suffered an injury from the flu vaccine (from improper administration, not the vaccine itself), but you can be damned sure we still get vaccinated every year. You think you’re so special that you don’t have to get vaccinated because you don’t want to expose yourself to a tiny risk something will go wrong? Get real. My family suffers for your selfish choices. And we’ve already suffered enough for many lifetimes.

@SpongeWorthy I am so so sorry for what your family is going through. There are so many personal reasons to get vaccinated but this is a HUGE reason outside of yourself to do so as well. Thank you for sharing your story.
I wasn’t going to say anything but I agree with something you said @AshVA (maybe more than some lol)- it seems like antivaxxers think they figured out a life hack. If only we could go back to the good old days where we didn’t have vaccines, then we wouldn’t have to worry about all this!
@SpongeWorthy I am so sorry with what your family has gone through. I don’t think people realize the actual consequences until they are on the receiving end of them. Nothing about anti-vaxxers and avoiding them in our community is funny especially given the fact that for a lot of people, this is an actual struggle and reality that comes with so many challenges and sacrifices. My heart goes out to you.
@sparkymcgeee You have chosen over and over to air your feelings about kate to the entire bmb rather than take it to a private message. Dropping it like you have something to say but don't want to say it, you KNEW that would rile people up into wanting to know because natural human curiosity. You accused others of wanting the drama, yet you're the one who caused the drama in the first place. You're the one who initially offered it up. And then, you posted the most PA masterpiece, ever. Who cares if this is UO. If the UO thread didn't exist, you would've posted it somewhere else.
We know kate from ttgp. Is she a rough tough chick and sometimes it's difficult to understand her? Yes. In fact, I used to get butt hurt at some of the things she says. BUT, in my experience, she has been through some horrible things. When shit gets rough for you, she is the most loving and supportive person. When she does take the time to comment on something you are going through, it's the most well thought out and genuine comment I've ever seen. She doesn't mass tag with repetitions that mean diddly squat. When people post something they might get flamed for, she cares enough to send them a private message to warn them. She likes organization, she's passionate about what she believes in, and she's snarky. What's so bad about that? I really think that you should stop with this and talk about it in private, with her. I think you'll be surprised at how kind she really is.
And also @bdream0916 I really do understand why you want to wait for your baby's immune system to be strong because I used to be an anti-vaxxer until I researched it to death and discovered that I was wrong, but anyone can have a reaction to a vaccine at ANY time of their lives, young or old so it doesn't make a lot of sense to put forth an opinion when it's not even your opinion yet because it's clear it isn't well thought out yet. You said you are adamantly anti-vaccine, then you said you are waiting until your baby's immune system is strong enough. Which is it? So don't be upset when there are people who disagree with your not so strong and well researched opinion yet. You can't post something like that, which clearly your view you are so passionate about and then get upset when other people disagree with you and strongly, and then become further upset that they still don't agree with your views after elaborating with things that are completely opposite of what you first said. Bringing up hpv was moving the goal posts. Then you tried to make a joke about it, making it seem like they are the ones most rigid in their views. That's nonsensical.
Also ladies, I think it's important to remember that you are all on pregnancy hormones. At the end of the day, how can we expect society to treat women better if we cannot even treat each other well? Girls compete with one another. Women empower one another. That's all.
And @SpongeWorthy My heart is sick for you. I am so sorry
People think we become mothers when we give birth but the truth is we become mothers the moment we start calling our babies to us in our thoughts, dreams and prayers. Some paths are short and some are so long that you can easily forget where you were headed.

@suzycupcake I'm fine with you being a lurker and commenting but I think it's odd you used someone's actual name in a large forum with a bunch of people she barely knows. I guess if whe is fine with it I should be too.
I am impressed with how civil, well reaearched and nuanced the vaccine discussion has been, for the most part. Well done, ladies!
The board organization, on the other hand, is kinda like like Mean Girls! The cool kids are turning on each other, and rest of us just can’t look away.
