  • @cecilb93 started the original. Maybe she can edit the title to add "CLOSED - Please see weekly question thread" and also make the very last post on it the same so people move over here? Definitely daunting to scroll through 10 pages to find an answer.
  • Maybe if we just keep it bumped.

I do have a question.. those of you who take colace, does it actually help with constipation? I was never constipated like this with DS and I was taking iron supplements because I was extremely anemic before getting pregnant!!

I had to take miralax with my first. Luckily my body has reacted differently with ds2 and ds3.
  • @temmetime Oh no. I hope it gets better for us.

  • @AdorkablePixie I have had to take it both this pregnancy and with DS. I take 3 at bedtime and it really seems to help. I cannot remember the reasoning behind doing it in the evening, but it works bette for me. Also, Kroger has a store brand version for half the price.
  • @katy0990 We don't have Kroger where I am. I still have some generic from after I had DS, but I'm not sure if it's expired or not. I need to check.

  • Anyone have an experience with high blood pressure during pregnancy? I've never been told my blood pressure was high and today it was... I have to go to have it rechecked in a week but I'm nervous now.
  • Kind of a random (kid related) question. For anyone who has had nieces/nephews/other children over for extended stays, do they pitch in with housework/chores at your place? I’m sorry for repeating this (I feel like a very broken record), but I’ll have my niece for a week (she’s 6).
I expect her to pick up after herself: put toys up when done, put plate in sink, etc. Would it be “character building” for me to ask her to help with regular housework I’m doing, or would it be inappropriate? She’s my guest and it’s supposed to be her “vacation”, so I don’t expect her to pitch in. Should I still ask in case she wants to help (with age appropriate tasks)?
What do you do though? Idk the expectations or norms here.
  • @tumbleweed-1 I don't think it's inappropriate to ask her to help clean up after herself. And a little help here or there with housework is okay too, as long as it's not too much or more than what you would ask of your own kids at that age.
  • @tumbleweed-1 I think it probably depends on the kid/parents as far as what's normal for her, but my DD (she's younger, she's 2) loves to help clean. She has had chores since she could walk because otherwise she cries if we are doing something without her, lol. I think if you make it seem fun and like her contribution is valuable (and throw in some praise) kids like to help! My DD helps feed the pets, helps water the plants, she throws away any trash that's out if I ask her and helps me sweep the floor. (Some of the helping is um, not very helpful, but we want her to get used to having fun contributing to the household!)
  • @tumbleweed-1 As others have mentioned, kids usually love to help. I bet if you just ask her to join you she would love it and not even feel like she is doing any work.
  • Thanks for your advice and experience, all!

I’m overthinking her stay. I want it to be a lot of fun for her, and I don’t want to overdue myself and be too exhausted. Lol. I also live 4 hours away from her house and this will be her longest overnight stay away from home! I think she’ll be ok- I’m just falling into the being Pinterest-perfect trap.
  • @texas_t Thanks!! I know fiber is a big thing. I love gummies, so maybe I'll try those. What brand do you use?

@tumbleweed-1 I'd definitely make sure she knows she has to clean after herself. I might not give her tasks, but maybe ask her if she wants to help when you're cleaning. Some kids that age LOVE to help, so she might find it fun. Cleaning windows, dusting tables, that sort of thing.

  • @AdorkablePixie I think the colace works.  I usually only have to take one at night and usually go at some point the next day.  If not I will take one at night the next day too.  And yes they do expire.  I had some left over from my last pregnancy and was going to take one but when I opened the old bottle they looked deflated, checked and they were expired.  If they didn’t look funny I would have probably taken them though :#

@texas_t I will be getting those gummies!  Thanks for suggesting;)
  • @Llynde5 I totally still take expired stuff if it looks okay. lol My doctor said they are still okay, just less effective.

  • @AdorkablePixie one of my best friend is a Pharmacist and she says the same thing!  Not sure what cause them to do that, if it was age related or maybe they got to hot and melted?
  • Hey all! Hope this is the right place for this.

When are you ladies planning on decorating the nursery (e.g., painting, buying the crib, decor, etc.)? I can't decide if it's way too early or I should get going on it now since I'm going to get much bigger?
    Pregnancy TickerSaveSave
  • @binxybaby I plan to start doing up DS1's room in August and probably have him move in there sometime end of August. Then we will work on the nursery in September.
With DS1, I was due November 1. We moved into a new house end of August. We didn't even start the nursery until end of September.
My opinion: It's important to be ready in case baby comes early but it's not a huge rush!
  • @binxybaby With DS, we started the nursery around 20 weeks and had everything done and set up by 30 weeks. It was nice to be able to relax that last trimester and just have to wash clothes and such. This time, we are moving baby into that same room, so as soon as ds’s Big boy room is done, we will be set!

  • @mcgeeva thank you so much for the response. I will be 13 weeks tomorrow. My bp was 140/80. They have me coming back next Monday to recheck it. I was panicking because I've never been told that I have high blood pressure before. I've been googling reasons for a fluke high reading, but I have no idea why it was high  :(
  • @morgantu I am so happy we don't have to do that this time around! I do, however, need to get the sibling app into our daycare!

@binxybaby The room that this baby is going in is currently packed with my dresses, maternity clothes, DSs old stuff that he's outgrown (bouncer, swing, rock and play, clothes, etc) that we saved for our next kid. DH is currently building us  walk in closet so we can move my stuff out of the room. We are also having a friend fix our attic so we can actually put stuff up there. One that is done, we will start working on the nursery as soon as we know what we are having!! I think whether it's a girl or boy though, I want to do a space theme.

OK, I’m having an internal dilemma and I’m going to post it here since technically this will be a Question.

Is it tacky to have an open-house-type baby shower?  Like, have a window of time during which people can drop by, bring a gift, eat and drink, and socialize?  We did this for our wedding for our extended family and it seemed like everyone enjoyed themselves and really liked the relaxed atmosphere.  I really dislike the structured-ness of wedding receptions and showers – it just seems like herding sheep to me – funneling everyone through a bunch of scheduled activities.  Every shower I’ve been to that is structured like that feels very awkward, like everyone is just sitting around waiting to be told where to go or what to do next.

I’m a little nervous to do this since it seems like there is so much dumb etiquette surrounding showers that I really don’t understand.  For example, why is it wrong to host your own shower?  Having to schlep all those gifts home from a different location is a massive pain in the ass.  Having it at our own house is just practical.

To be clear – I would never just ask people to drop their gifts and leave.  I would definitely plan to personally receive gifts from each guest, open if wrapped, and thank the giver.

Is this a good idea?  Is there anything I’m missing that might make this bad, other than possibly mildly offending some fuddy-duddies?
