High-Risk Pregnancy

High Risk with #1, now having #2

My first pregnacy was high risk, my son was diagnosed in utero at 20 weeks with hydrocephalus.  Because of that and my swelling and high blood pressure I'm wondering how this pregnancy will compare.

Did any of you have a high risk pregnancy the first time?  What is the begining of you pregnancy been like in regards to your doctors appointments?  Just wondering what to expect.

I will also be seeing a new doctor, my doctor relocated to another state after my son was born.  I haven't called yet as I just got my bfp today, still trying to decide who to see.

  • I would suggest looking into a high risk doc. I know that they are difficult to find around my area but there are alot out there that specialize in high risk pregnancies. My doc. isn't a high risk doc. (previouse pre-e pregnancy) but they do keep a very close eye on me and have had me in there every two weeks from 25 weeks on just to be sure everything is going well. Also they have a u/s tech on staff at all times wich has also came in handy. Last OBGYN had to send you to the hospital to get u/s done. I would also check into what hospital your docs work out of. I know alot only use one hospital so you may want to make sure that their hospital has a fully equiped NICU (some only handle babies that are a certain gestational age I was moved by ambulance with DD to a hospital 2hrs. away because of their NICU unit). Good Luck!

  • I see a high risk ob & also a perinatologist.  If you are super high risk usually even a good high risk OB will consult with MFM/peri.
