  • @mytrueloves I've had some weird feelings like that, too, but doc just thinks it's baby moving around. Hope you're doing okay!

@SawyerRichardson you're my favorite person in the world right now because your post just reminded me that I have cookies and cream ice cream in the freezer - a realization that has made a bright spot to an afternoon at work that makes me want to slam my head against a table. Yipeeeeee. That said, sorry yours didn't turn out so well!
  • @chopchop25 Yay, ice cream buddies! I actually got cookies and cream ice cream for my H when he comes home from his work trip tomorrow, so I have that too!

@mytrueloves If it was appendicitis...there's a pretty good way to tell.

Stand next to your fiance and have him press two fingers where your appendix is located and see what happens.

I will stand by for your response ;)
  • @chopchop25 that's really reassuring!
@sliztee Will definitely update when DF gets off work. *off to Google precise location of the appendix in the body*

  • @jennybean80 I mean it hurts, but idk if that's because I'm poking myself or because it actually hurts.
I did repeat it on the other side to see if it was just the poking and it definitely hurts more on my right side. And my right side feels different under my fingers. I also feel a little nauseous now.

Also I just read that the appendix shifts places during pregnancy, so I did it in both locations.

@jennybean80 It didn't hurt until I let go, but definitely not in a "hurts like hell" kinda way. A very mild but sharp pain.
ETA: I do feel a lot less concerned though. I felt the same pain on the other side, just much more mild. So I think it's from poking myself lol

Hmmm. I’d keep an eye on it then. Look for nausea, vomiting and fever. Hope it’s something

  • Thanks ladies! Ds's pregnancy was SO easy, that this is making it harder for me to enjoy. We have high hopes adding the patch will be the help to level it all out. The first one they ordered, literally no where in a 30 miles radius had any. So my pharmacy ordered some to come in the next day. The lady apologized profusely and said the manufacturer sent a note saying they didn't have any stock of that patch so they sent none... (How in the world does that happen?!) Now we are waiting for insurance to ok the PA, to get the more expensive (brand name) ones. Because no where has any. The nurses kept telling me it "should get better in the 2nd tri" I have zero faith in them right now :joy:

Thanks @jennybean80 for telling @mytrueloves what’s up with appendicitis!

I’ve been experiencing some achiness in my side too, and I think it’s my ribs. Thankfully, I don’t have an appendix anymore to worry about  ;)
  • @mytrueloves. I went to the hospital with what we thought was appendicitis.  There’s more than just the test @jennybean80 mentioned.  You’ll need somebody to help you with them, but the 2 I remember are to get flat on your back, have somebody hold your right leg down, right above your knee and then you try to pick it up.  The other one is to have them tap on the bottom of your right foot. If both of those hurt your side, it could be appendicitis.  Mine actually confused the drs because I had all the early symptoms of appendicitis, except the foot tap test didn’t hurt.  It turned out I had an ovarian cyst that was about to burst.

The bump app says the baby is the size of a croissant today. I'm pretty sure that is because I ate a croissant per day on vacation! Gained 5 lbs in 5 days - glad I lost some 1st trimester - time to catch up!  :D

  • I'm so frustrated with my boss. My FMLA for after the baby was born was approved already. Well when I requested a vacation day for the 15th because of my anatomy scan, she asked me to apply for a secondary, intermittent FMLA that would allow me to miss for any doctor appointments during pregnancy. I did it without arguing because 1) it meant my job would be secure if I end up in the ER again and 2) I don't plan to take 12 weeks after baby so it's not really eating into my maternity leave. When the intermittent FMLA was approved, it stated right on there that the dates of my absences were allowed to be unscheduled. Cool, but obviously I'm going to give as much notice as possible and try to get coverage. Well I haven't been able to get coverage for the 15th because no one in this company ever helps anyone out unless you're BFFs. And instead of doing her job and insuring that one of her offices is able to run properly, my boss wants me to reschedule my anatomy scan. NO. This appointment was the whole reason I jumped through hoops to get approved for an intermittent FMLA. UGH!

  • @krzyriver Wow, your boss sounds like a peach..
  • @jomama1618 I'm so sorry you are going through this. Hopefully you feel better ASAP!

Annnnddddd I woke up with a toothache. NOOOO!!!! I have the world's worst teeth ever and I am SO over it!
  • @krzyriver ugh that is so frustrating! F her!  If the intermittent leave was already approved for you, then I say keep your appt and if she comes back with any more pushback, go to hr and complain. FMLA is protected, so there’s nothing she can do to you.
  • @pumpkinpancake Oh I have zero plans to reschedule it. I've been counting down the days. My H already requested the day off. My mother has rearranged her schedule for it. No way!! I'll definitely keep the HR thing in mind. She won't take any real action against me, but she'll bring it up repeatedly and make a big deal out of it. She already has with all my absences even tho I was in the ER for all of them. I feel completely harassed. I didn't do anything about it before because I was trying to leave, but I'm stuck for the time being and protected by FMLA so I have zero problem reporting her now if she wants to be a B about this!!

@purplegoldfish2 thanks for the info! My side still hurts today so I might have DF help me with that test.

ETA: Did both tests and no pain during the tests. I hope that means no appendicitis?
@purplegoldfish2 what were your other symptoms of your cyst if you don't mind me asking?

@mytrueloves It was general abdominal pain that I couldn’t pinpoint at first.  I just didn’t feel good & I felt worse when I was up walking around instead of laying down.  MH suggested going to the Dr and I told him it didn’t hurt that bad, which is when he found the lifting the leg test and pushing on the abdomen test (I failed both). He said a combination of those tests, my inability to tell exactly where the pain came from and me saying it isn’t that bad were all signs of appendicitis (apparently it’s common for somebody with beginning symptoms to say it isn’t that bad).

In the hospital they repeated those tests and did the foot tap test (which didn’t hurt). They were confused at first, but agreed that I didn’t have appendicitis & started looking for other causes. At one point I was unable to stand up straight and walked hunched over to the bathroom. The pain started getting worse on my right side between my hip and bellybutton until it just stopped.  I was still waiting for tests, but felt so good that I was ready to leave before they finished the tests.

Followup with my dr showed I had 3 or 4 cysts and they warned me that it may happen again, but based on what they saw, the one that burst at the hospital was the biggest one.  I had another burst at Mother’s Day brunch and I was uncomfortable, but it didn’t hurt as much as the first one and that pain was localized instead of general abdominal pain.

ETA - I just thought of this. A couple years ago I thought I had another cyst, only this time on the left.  I went to the gyn and they ordered an ultrasound, which found nothing. They weren’t much help after that, but my chiropractor said that it could have been a small hernia from having the boys, so I went to my GP like the chiro suggested and he found nothing (although he was checking for a larger hernia than the chiropractor meant for him to look for - not sure how he was supposed to check me, but he didn’t do it).  It ended up being a muscle thing that I fixed myself by rolling on a lacrosse ball (like you’d use a foam roller only it was smaller and was able to get to the spot that was causing the issue - it was right near my back dimple).  I’m having some similar pain again on my right side this time and asked at the OB at my appointment today if I had any cysts.  I don’t, so I’m going to try the ball again and hope it fixes it.

  • Oh thanks for pointing that out, I missed it. When I had my ultrasound at the fetal diagnostic center at 12 weeks, my ovaries were both clear. Is it possible for a cyst to form that quickly? About 5 weeks.

  • Normally yes, however I don’t think you can in pregnancy.  Every month as your eggs ripen, your body creates cysts from the follicles. Typically, ovulation is one of those cysts bursting and the others will shrink back down and be reabsorbed by your body.  That’s why sometimes women can feel ovulation - they are actually feeling a small cyst burst.  Sometimes something doesn’t go right and the cyst(s) don’t shrink back down and that’s when people are considered to have ovarian cysts; it basically means abnormal ovarian cysts. Sometimes they shrink back down later, sometimes they burst and sometimes they continue growing and need to be surgically removed.  In pregnancy though, the cycle is disrupted and since folicals are not maturing, cysts shouldn’t be forming, at least the way I understand it.  Maybe @jennybean80 can confirm or can correct anything I got wrong.

My cousin had appendicitis, she thought it was just bad period cramps but it kept getting worse and she finally convinced the school nurse something was wrong and got to the hospital in time.. sometimes it's debilitating pain sometimes it's just cramps that keep getting worse.. definitely keep an eye on the pain and severity
  • That is a beautiful room @DunkinDecaf!
  • @chopchop25 thanks! For once it’s not a total mess bc I had to clear the floor off to take the crib apart haha

    @DunkinDecaf that looks awesome!!!
  • @DunkinDecaf good luck!! How old is your DD2 again? We’re probably going to try to transition DS from crib to toddler bed sometime before baby comes, and want to strike the right balance between him being ready, and having long enough time for him to forget about the crib before the baby needs it.
