@sparklingdiamond I was taking Puritan’s Pride ubiqunol.  I liked the 100mg pill size. Last month, I ordered Jarrow brand & greatly disliked the horse-pill size for 100mg.

  • I can switch to the pills since I can't tell what type mine is (I take the gummies right now). But what is the dosage you take? I'm wondering if mine is high enough or not.
  • @prpl11butterfly I take either the "Now" or "Webbers Natural" brands of Ubiquinol 100 mg. I take 2 a day. I believe that if you are taking CoQ10 then you would need to take a higher dosage as it not as concentrated.
  • This might be a dumb question, but what do you ladies use for sleep aids during the TWW (for those of you who need them)? I have a mild dependency on Advil PM, but I know Advil is a no-no if one were to become KU. I’m thinking Zzquil as I believe it’s the same active ingredient as unisom (need to double check). I just can’t take whole unisoms, they knock me on my ass and I’m a zombie the next day.

  • Thank you @nitnat007. Neuro wants me on 400mg 2x a day so that should be perfect. He didn't specify any type in particular. I can switch to the Ubiquinol and take my usual dosage.

@general_organa I take magnesium to help with sleep. It doesn't leave me a mess. I normally take 400mg around 8pm. OB said I can continue taking it in pregnancy but drop down to 350mg. So during the TWW, I only take 300mg (my chewable are 200mg each so I take 1.5).
  • @prpl11butterfly I haven’t heard of using magnesium for sleep! I’ll look into that. Thanks!!

First timer poster but guilty as a lurker.  You all provide such good support and advice, I figured it is time I jump in!  My husband and I have been ttc 6 months now-  2 not trying/not preventing, and 4 actively trying.  This is my 2nd cycle temping (previously charting/cm/cp/oks).  Every month I have “confirmed” o by the intense nipple and breast pains with follows.  This month, nothing. FF is indicating no ovulation, and I am inclined to believe this may be an anovulatory cycle-  however my bbt pattern is similar to last month.  I am starting to wonder all cycles have been anovulatory, however the post o symptoms have always previously been there. Very regular 28-30 day cycles with the exception of last month at 26.  I would love any feedback anyone would have to offer!
  • @jwk70 Unfortunately there is no way to determine what happened with your previous cycles, and I think you may be correct in thinking that this cycle is an an-o cycle as well. Temping is as close to a confirmation as you can get, but also not a guarantee that you did in fact ovulate. The only way to truly confirm would be with an ultra sound. Which brand of OPK are you using? Are they truly positive or close to?
Do you temp at the same time every day? Orally or vaginally? These factors may contribute towards the erratic patterns of your temps. You could also track CM which could help.
  • jwk70jwk70 member
@nitnat007  thank you so much for your response!  I have been using Wandfo opks.  I usually track cm very closely-  I have not been charting it (but have been monitoring) the past couple days.  I have let this abnormal cycle get the best of me.  Hitting the 6 month mark (which I know is absolutely a quick blink of the eye in ttc) has gotten me down as I prepare for a good friends baby shower tomorrow (an extremely Fertile Myrtle to boot).

Part of my post must have deleted-  i temp every morning at 4am sharp, but orally

@jwk70 I think it would be really important to go to a doctor and talk about not ovulating since you have to be ovulating in order to conceive. I'm sorry this is happening to you.

@general_organa It's good that you know advil pm is not safe or healthy for you to take in this manner. You might want to switch to benadryl until you get a mag plan going since it's safe for this purpose.

@suzycupcake thank you!  I actually have an appt with my obgyn next week, which I made about a month or so ago to discuss my increasingly horrendous pms-  so perfect timing!  As I am obviously not at the 1 year mark, I’m just concerned how much her hands  could be tied, outside of a hormone and thyroid panel (hopefully).  It’s just reassuring to throw it out there for advice with women who have been there, or are there.
  • @jwk70 I kind of feel like you aren't getting a fair shot at the one year rule if you aren't ovulating so it's a good thing you have an appointment scheduled.

@suzycupcake Thanks for responding! Benadryl knocks me on my ass, too. I get such a "hangover"! I've gotten myself down to only taking 1/2 of one Advil PM per night. I've tried going without, but I usually just lie there awake until 1-1:30 am if I take nothing. I've been wanting to switch to melatonin, but it's effects haven't been studied enough for pregnancy and breastfeeding, so I've been avoiding that. Do you need a doctor or other health professional to dose you for magnesium supplements?

  • @general_organa Idk, probably? I get freaked out by meds in general so I'm probably the wrong person to ask. I personally feel that natural is always the best way to go. You may just need to force yourself to stop taking the advil. The health risks beyond putting you to sleep and preventing implantation, are not worth it, imo. The fda forced manufacturers to put warnings on nsaids a few years back because of the risk of stroke from taking just one.

How much benadryl are you taking? I find that taking two tablets gives me the hangover you speak of. Taking one doesn't knock me out. It assists me to fall asleep and I don't get the hangover in the morning. It might just be right now that you've been taking something for so long that you're going to have to cold turkey to allow your body to adjust.

Melatonin is a natural substance that your body already produces so I don't see it being an issue, but with a lot of things, that can turn on you too. Are there any lifestyle changes you can make to help you sleep better?

  • I didn't see a doc about about doseing. I was talking to a friend who does crystal healing and had mentioned that I hadn't been sleeping well. After asking about the details, she recommended it. If I'm remembering correctly, 400mg is the dose recommend on the bottle. It helps to calm muscles and relax you.

  • @jwk70 FWIW, when I spoke to my doc at my pre-conception appt, she told me to come back in if I tracked my cycle and didn’t see clear O signs for 3 months. Based on the 2 charts you posted, I would think you didn’t O so far. I’m 33 if that matters.
  • jlovespjlovesp member
@galactickates I have been using Fitbit HR to track resting heart rate over a the past few months, but it is difficult to tell if it can predict O... Some months it seems it can, others it can't... But who knows if I am actually ovulating? :open_mouth: One of my friends did this too, and her graphs seemed a bit clearer. There was a scientific paper published on this, but the main conclusion was that HR is higher post-O than pre-O (but they didn't do this by day, just pre- vs. post-). Hope that helps!

@suzycypcake @general_organa Melatonin is actually not a great idea while TTC :) It can change the pattern of ovulation & the pattern of your cycle, as it is a hormone. While it does help with egg health, the safest time for it be used when TTC is in an IVF cycle where they are forcing you to ovulate (ie: ER).
@general_organa What behavioral modifications have you attempted?   Sleep hygiene can play a huge part in being able to kick the Advil on habit!  Not getting enough sleep sucks- sorry you struggle with it :(

ETA: anti-histamines, such as benedryl, can dry or thin CM. It can be helpful to lay off them during FW :)

@jrm_14 Thank you for that info. I had no idea it helps with egg health. Now I'm going to buy some. I wish I had known this during iui cycles. I still feel like such a newb even with all of the crap I know now. I took benadryl during my last cycle because we were in the mountains and I was having allergy attacks, having no idea it could cause that.

@general_organa A lady over on the fet boards said this "magnesium is safe to take during pregnancy (up to 350 mg I believe). I take a 150 mg magnesium capsule before bed and it definitely helps me sleep."-- So maybe this would be a good regiment to start with.

@suzycupcake The reason melatonin should really only be used during IVF cycles is it can inhibit ovulation (even wth a trigger shot, I believe). So, it’s good you didn’t!  It Starts With The Egg talks about melatonin & other supplements to help with egg health/ has ones specific for IVF! I take Zyrtec daily. I didn’t take it during one cycle & the amount of CM I had was unreal!    I
didn't realize how much difference there was.
  • You ladies are so awesome. Thanks for all the great info! I’m definitely staying away from melatonin right now, and I’ll see if I can find a 150 mg magnesium supplement to start with. Eventually I think I might want to look into micro-dosing with THC (a dude my husband works with does this for sleep and swears by it), but that’s obviously not an option right now!!  :D

  • @jrm_14 What's different about forced ovulation in an iui cycle vs ivf? Aside from the # of follicles being matured being different, in an iui cyce, there is still an oral and injection induction. Anyway, I'm moving on to ivf so it doesn't make a difference now lol
