@galatickates I have been wanting to do 23andme for months now, but I can't convince myself to sign off on them using/selling my DNA profile for anything they want in perpetuity. They could hypothetically clone you against your will in the future. It is possible to do it using an alias, although it will require some extra effort on your part. You have to create a fake email account that isn't tied to your home computer, cell phone, or wifi network (they track your email address and IP address). I'd recommend using a public library computer. Then purchase a reloadable credit card to pay with and use a fake name on your sample. Not that I've put much thought into this LOL.
My MIL paid for it, but I told them not store my sample and not to include me in their research. It's just very unlike his parents to give us something like this. We bought the an Alexa and they didn't even want to use it. It's bizarre she wants us to send our DNA away. H said yes to everything soooo we'll see how it shakes out for him.
Ooh, interesting, @maureenmce and @meggyme. I didn't complain because I figured there was an off chance it was my internet, although I haven't been having the same issues on TK.
Also, the shortcut back to the board (like chit chat) below the comment box next to the "post reply" button is gone. Which means when I'm multiple pages into a thread, there's no way to get back to the chit chat board without hitting the back button multiple times, typing in the chit chat URL, or going back out it the list of all the boards and clicking on chit chat. I did complain about that one, and I got a reply back saying they'd look into it. That was a week ago, and I haven't heard anything yet.
This is still annoying, but if you're on the app and you go back to page 1 of a thread and scroll to the top you can click back to the group you're posting in, there's a link next to the date the thread was started.

Ugh, yes @galactickates. Eugene's betrayal with the bullets was awesome but the rest of it was pretty stupid. I sort of get why Maggie would want to get revenge on Rick for not killing Negan, but it really doesn't make sense for Jesus. It's like they needed some cliffhanger since the Saviors got taken down and that was the best they could do. I'm kind of glad Negan isn't dead though, he's what keeps the show entertaining.

Guiiisse.... It's friggin' Mid-April and we have ANOTHER winter storm advisory. At this point any thoughts of a garden this year is futile.

@lurvleybunchococonuts I thought you aren't supposed to plant a garden until Mother's Day? I'm new to gardening so I could definitely be wrong. It could just be a Utah thing. I posted this in TWW today, but these are my feelings of snow in April:

@lurvleybunchococonuts I always get itching to plant and make my yard pretty around this time of year, and can't actually plant anything for 4-6 weeks to avoid frost danger! I think my brain needs the hope that it'll SOMEDAY be warm again
They gross me out. I know that's really weird but my H has the same thing with microwave popcorn which I love. He says it smells like pee. I can't even make it if he's home.
But my coworker just poured a bowl of cheerios and it smells like she peed her pants or something. Trying not to gag because I know what it really is.
Way to ruin cheerios for me @galactickates Some beers are like this for me. I always give my pee beers to DH. "Here, I don't want this. It's another pee beer."

@galactickates re: 23andme.... I did it. My mom did it. MH did it. His mom, dad and brothers did it. My dad did it. My great aunt did it.... most of my friends have done it... I also ran my and DH's raw data through promethease.
@galactickates yes, I was fine with that. I've worked with 23andme professionally (skincare client) and met their c-suite team, so I felt personally fine with it. And DH is a lawyer, and he reviewed everything and thought it was fine. My dad has Parkinson's disease, and honestly I probably will get it too, and I know how important genetic research of this scale is to be able to develop new insights and treatments, and potentially even cures, so I didn't really give it a second thought TBH. The research is stuff you continue to opt into, btw. Like, they'll email and be like, "Do you want to participate in this study? Take this survey to see if you qualify." So far I haven't qualified for anything, but I always take the survey to find out.
H and I did a pretty decent size garden in raised beds last year. Our landlords were great about it. They already had two raised beds in the back. But now, we're talking about going elsewhere for the summer, so probably won't be able to do a garden.

@galactickates My H and I have done 23andme. Honestly I'm not worried at all about it. I love the research on genetics, and if my bit of spit can help with research, then they can go for it! I mean, the only thing I wouldn't like is if they like...clone me...but seriously, that happening in my lifetime is slim. Hahaha.
It was sooo interesting to see my genetics. I don't know my biological father, so I was interested in what would show up.
Also, I didn't do any of the medical stuff. Just genetics.
That snow is horrible! I love snow but by April you’ve just had enough of the cold. Ours is supposed to get up to like 22 today so I’m gonna bring the blanket out and do some sunbathing this afternoon with some drinks and I cannot wait
@galactickates oh my... look at all that beautiful green green grass and the tree! Ugh... Color me jealous! Remind me what state you live in? Looks delightful compared to the winter wonderland of the mid-west.

@lurvleybunchococonuts I'm in Oregon. Everyone has had snow but it's been rain city for us! I'd much prefer snow to dark skies and rain. Except on the few and far between sunny days. yesterday was an anomaly lol
@galactickates - your grass is like, emerald green. I am so jealous. I'm in southern Indiana so the weather isn't too bad but my lawn (for lack of a better word) is a patch of wild plants. I've got clover, wild onions/garlic, dandelions, and thistle but only spotty grass here and there I'm going to try weed and feed this spring. I'm hoping it helps. I can't walk around barefoot in my yard because it's such a colossal mess.
@galactickates ah, that makes sense. I would loooooooooove some fresh sod!!! But to cover my yard would cost way more money than I'm willing to invest. I just don't know what to do, though. I'm way out of my depth here. On top of the yard being 75% weeds I'm still working on cleaning out the debris that's been left behind. This will be my 3rd summer working on this yard. It was a rental for decades before so the property has been generally neglected. Last year I cleaned up broken glass, roofing tile, cement pieces, and found a large knife in the weeds under a tree. Oh, and then 2 giant trees fell and one destroyed part of our fence. That was SUPER fun.
@wishiwaspreggo - I know it doesn't look like it but we're dealing with a somewhat similar situation. We just bought a new construction house and the builder laid down an inch of hay over all sorts of garbage including a chain link fence! Then put either bark or sod over the hay. So as we were trying to plant or trees and plants we kept finding lawn mower parts - a seat belt, a break, the seat! And other misc items. Plus in a lot of parts of yard water isn't draining so we're having to pick up the bark and pull out thick layers of hay.
We built a waterfall but you can see how none of the water was draining not to mention it was pouring rain that day.
After we got done building the waterfall and dug up the hay bonus pic
@galactickates that is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I would LOVE a water feature like that in my yard!! It cleaned up really nice Your hydrangea is lovely, too. Sucks about your contractor leaving all that debris behind, and covering it with hay no less. That's what happened to me, too (with the roofing tile and leftover cement from the garage roof repair after the tree smashed it).
I'm going to put a lot of work into placing ornamental plants in my yard, building some beds, and establishing my veggie garden. But I won't go any fancier than that. I might repurpose our eyesore of a tree trunk (the tree was probably 75 years old when it died and the trunk is very, very thick) and turn it into a climbing structure. You can buy the foot and handholds on Amazon and screw them in. I think it would be a nice selling point in the future since we live in a town that really values outdoor recreation. I'm working hard to curate the property to potential buyers because we're wanting to move to the Indianapolis area in 2 years.

Is that ... normal? I mean, obviously it's a dumb way to do things and kind of shady to not tell the next owners about it, but is that something that plenty of people just do because they don't want to bother with cleanup? Seems crazy!
Unfortunately in new construction I kind of think it is normal. They buy a big plot of land and then just flatten everything regardless. Then because the earth might be soft they throw all that hay down for the big machines to move around. The hay will eventually decompose. I think they just assume most people won't be digging their yard up right away especially if they landscaped. We aren't most people though..... and yes it's incredibly lazy. But they built our 2500 sq ft house in 3 months, along with the other 6 houses in my development. I feel bad for our neighbors who don't have landscaping. Their back yards are just a mess of hay. Ours was included because of a mess up with the builder.
