I hope no one minds me.. just have to chime in on the dog conversation up there. Mostly because I need to rant lol... I say no from personal experience. I can’t stand having animals anymore. We have 2 cats and 2 dogs. I wish we stuck to 1 dog. I love animals and I love my pets, don’t be get me wrong, especially “my” cat, but they’re gross, and a lot of work. Yes, so are kids but I gave birth to them, so it’s way different. I’m not cut out for it and I’ve told my SO I shouldn’t have pets.. they irk me constantly and gross me out easily. I sit here and dream about not having to change a litter box. Or smell it. I can’t do litter, I have to force myself to do it. Then to let dogs in and out everyday on top of everything else I have to do. I can’t stand it anymore. But here I am dealing with it because they’re a part of our family of course.. I just regret adding so many animals with 2 kids .. going on 3 now....
yes!!!! This! I only have one cat, he doesn't even use a little box (he's indoor/outdoor) and he annoys me so flipping much. It's just another thing that needs attention. Another thing that wants to touch me. Ugh. I thank God pretty much all the time that we don't have a dog, and have decided that I probably won't ever have one. (I used to love them before I had kids).
@coffee-saur nope, corgi's are high energy high intelligence dogs like border collies. Little legs mean they just have to run faster to keep up border collies need a ton of mental challenges and lots of physical exercise. Corgis do too but they aren't as obsessive.
@hellopartyof5@sammierose464 My dog likes to sit on my shoulders/face/chest. She's 40lbs. It's really comfortable. It's marginally better than when she decides to sit on my uterus.
@sammierose464 my cat has recently taken to coming and making muffins directly over my uterus/bladder. Its so uncomfortable but I love him so I just suffer in silence and continue to pet him, lol
@purplegoldfish2 you’re right, ours are IVF. My MIL has bipolar and logical thought processes aren’t really her strong point. She convinces herself of things and no amount of reality or explanation is going to change her mind. We just roll with it (and thank the universe every day that she’s a 12 hour drive away!)
@hellopartyof5 Yessss!! After having kids animals are just intolerable to me lol. I’d just simply rather not deal with them and enjoy visting other people’s animals
Haven’t read all responses but @coffee-saur I think it’s just about weighing pros and cons, which really only you can do. Do you want a dog badly enough that you’ll be happy with your decision, considering how much of a PITA it is to train a puppy and have a dog? We got a puppy 2 days before we found out I was expecting DD2 and it was fine. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it for us. Also depends to a huge degree on the personality of the dog you get. Our boy is chill. He needs walks obviously and we have to pick up poop, but unless he’s sick he never wakes us up in the middle of the night and I’ve trained him not to bark unless someone he doesn’t know is coming INTO our house. Our girls love him, and so do we so he’s worth the work for us. I do not have unlimited patience for dogs though so if we’d wound up with a more high maintenance guy things could definitely have gone differently.
Cant really speak to my the outdoor dog thing but honestly it does strike me as strange. Why can’t he live in the house?
I think the no animal in the house thing is somewhat the culture. Some don't want the dirt, fur, bugs, etc. That a pet could bring in. DH grew up no pets in the house, and so did his friend and family and their friends and their family. He really grew up nobody did, and thought it odd and dirty that some did. He doesn't like cats at all, but knew I love cats and we came to a compromise, I have a cat, but he doesn't do anything with it. I seriously get side-eye from people for having an indoor cat and litter box. Some people think aww that's cute, but will never have one, and others... Think it's gross (which, I mean, yeah litter boxes are gross ).
Oh and the kids have no idea we're thinking of getting a dog. It'd be a surprise.
ETA: maybe I should've started this in the UO thread.
@ohmotherofboys I totally get it. I have been a dog lover my whole life! But since DS I don’t care for our dog and if we never got another one I’d be okay. It’s just one more thing.
