So I had my retrieval this morning. They were only able to get three follicles because my left ovary was not cooperating. He had trouble getting to it and that was the one that produced the most. I feel so defeated right now. I really didn't want to have to do this process again but it looks like I will have to. I just want to lay down and cry.
my REI Doc quelled my fears, and hubs can now be back on day 9, so he shouldn't miss it. She said day 10 is the earliest she would do the egg retrieval. YEA! As much as I like our nanny, having her accompany me to a medical procedure is a little sad (I have a 2yo from natural conception)
Question: how much are you guys limiting your diet? Like are you avoiding all the listeria foods/ under-cooked pork/ EtOH etc? I go through spurts.... then I want prosciutto, a glass of wine and some oysters.
I was looking a the march IVF board and there are some great positives over there... so crossing my fingers for all of us too.
@lady_a I’m so sorry to hear your procedure didn’t go as well as you expected and that you feel so defeated by today’s procedure. Were any of the three follicles retrieved mature? Sending you all of my well wishes
Background: I am 34 and am doing IVF with PGD as I am a carrier for a genetic mutation. I had my first retrieval cycle in January, ending with 5 (okay graded) day 5 blastocysts. With PGS/PGD it is a numbers game, with the likely hood of only 25% of those being chromosomally normal and not having the genetic mutation. Therefore, we decided to do another round before the testing (which is cheaper in batches).
I learned a lot from my first cycle and know how scary the unknown of this all is. Glad for this support forum.
I am on a "Traditional Antagonist Protocol" taking 225 IU of Menopur & 225 IU of Gonal-F.
Current Numbers: I just received a call from the nurse with my Day 6 results and instructions to administer the Cetrotide immediately. From what I understand the target is for my E2 (estrogen) levels to ~ double each
visit (every 2 days). During my first
cycle my levels were 433 on Day 4 and 793 on Day 6.This cycle, I was at 478 on Day 4 but I am
now at 1379 pg/ml on Day 6.I am taking an
additional 75 IU of the Menopur, but other than that my protocol has remained
the same.I wasn’t given any instruction
to reduce the medications, so I am guessing they aren’t too concerned with the
increase therefore I will try not to worry myself. I have 24 measurable AFCs with 18 of them 10mm+, which is likely why my E2 levels are high.
@lady_a: I am sorry to hear about the difficulties with your left ovary. Something that struck me about one of your earlier posts was you weren't sure about doing ICSI. Since we are doing PGD we were required to do ICSI because of concerns about cross-contamination of the genetic material.
@sushibaby we are required to do ICSI for just that reason. I didn't know we would have to but I get it. Two of our eggs have fertilized so we are keeping our FX that they make it to blast. I am thinking of just doing another cycle as well to get more to test. I have to pay out of pocket for the PGS test so I figure the more they can test at 1 time the better. Insurance covers PGD but the lab we are using doesn't do PGD without PGS which makes sense. Plus I know the quality of my eggs will diminish with age and want to have a few frozen if we decide to do baby #2. I'm feeling much better about things now and making plans for future steps.
Just had my Day 10 appointment, E2 levels are at 4200 so we are triggering tonight (Lupron only) and retrieving on Friday. Hope everyone else's cycles are going well!

Has anyone dealt with OHSS? If so, what helped remedy your symptoms? When did it occur for you? My nurse seems to think my stomach pain, shortness of breath and nausea may be attributed to OHSS even though I triggered almost a week ago.
@aeb1116 I had slight OHSS. Luckily, they triggered with my Lupron so it helped. I made sure to stay hydrated. Drank a ton of sugar-free powerade and tried to stay doing high protein. Def take it easy! I found even grocery shopping hard. I'd feel good, then before I left I'd turn into an 80 yr old lady needing a walker to get to the car. Wasn't until AF showed that I had some relief.

Thanks @kristimh80. I definitely know that 80 years needing a walker feeling!!! I’m glad to know it subsides. I’m glad the weekend is almost here so I can relax and rest up.
@aeb1116 I swear, you'll feel a little normal, then your body will kick you back again and make you that old lady! Just remember, you had a form of surgery. So relax as much as you can....it will get better!!

So my nurse followed up with my this morning and asked me to come in for an ultrasound to evaluate whether it is in fact OHSS and sure enough I have it and they have suggested I have the fluid removal procedure. Has anyone had this procedure done? Or have an opinion on it? They did do a beta test which is a few days earlier than planned and we are pending those results. I would love the relief but also don’t want to negatively impact any potential success with this cycle.
Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself. I am new to this forum, though I have been reading your posts recently. I am doing my 1st IVF cycle currently. Tonight, at midnight, I give my HCG trigger shot, and my husband and I will go into the clinic on Monday first thing for the retrieval. My doctor told me this morning that he thinks I have 8-9 follicles that are between 15 and 18 mm, which he anticipates will produce mature eggs at the retrieval procedure. I'm having a rest day today, Saturday, an trying to relax. I often find myself getting worried about things such as not getting pregnant after our fresh embryo transfer or not having viable embryos to transfer. I'm a worrier, so I have spent a lot of time these past few weeks trying to relax and think positively. Thanks for listening!
@aeb1116 There was a lady on the Nov or Dec thread that had a really bad bought of OHSS. She ended up with a +ve beta but had to have fluid drained a couple of times while she was pregnant. Everything turned out fine. I wouldn't mess around, OHSS can be serious, and gets worse with pregnancy if your beta end up +ve. I'd follow doctor's orders. Hope you feel better soon!

**also lurking to second tosh24** i remember that woman and I think she was even pregnant with twins! Her OHSS sounded awful but it seemed that the draining procedure brought immediate relief. Fx crossed for your beta but also for speedy recovery from OHSS!
Welcome @shellsbells01. I hope your trigger went well last night!!!! FX for your transfer on Monday.
@northbeach3 and @tosh24 thank you for the input from prior cycles. I ended up with a positive beta on Friday (hcg 157) which was only 8 days post transfer, so while excited I’m nervous it may be residual trigger hcg. Fingers crossed. We went forward with the fluid aspiration procedure on Saturday afternoon after additional monitoring on Saturday morning and doctor recommendation. They removed 1.5 liters of fluid. I was hoping for instant relief but was quite sore and actually cried because of pain in my bum areA. But once I was home I started to feel the relief. The bloating was fading and the cramps from the procedure were a welcomed change. I was finally able to sleep normally as well. I am so glad to hear other ladies have had similar experiences and maintained a BFP. I am most anxious for our second beta tomorrow to make sure we didn’t hurt our chances with the procedure.
I’m sorry I’ve been MIA, I had an unexpected family emergency at the start of the month! Hoping to jump back in now to offer regular support.
@aeb1116, I’m so sorry you had to deal with OHSS on top of all the other IVF stress. I’m glad you’re feeling some relief now. FX with you that the beta tomorrow continues to look good, I’ll be looking for your update!
@shellsbells01, I hope all goes smoothly with your retrieval tomorrow. I agree that managing worry and anxiety is one of the toughest parts of this process. I’ve been using a meditation app that helps some, but it’s still a challenge.
AFM, I had my first monitoring appointment on Friday (Day 6 of stims). I have 10 follicles, all still pretty small. Since I have low AMH I am definitely happy with 10, I’m just really hoping now that they all grow! My next appointment is tomorrow morning.
@aeb1116, good luck on your next beta test tomorrow!
@Augusta108, sending you positive thoughts on your growing follicles!
The trigger shot last night went fine except I was sure the medication went subcutaneously instead of intramuscularly as directed. I started freaking out that maybe I wouldn't get a full dose of the hCG and my retrieval wouldn't be successful, so I called the on call doc, who was less than reassuring. He said, 'let's just wait and see what your blood work says tomorrow morning.' Luckily I quickly did a little online research and found some clinics that state on their website that the trigger shot can be given either IM or SC. Phew! I'm glad I didn't just ruin my 1st IVF cycle by making that mistake! Spending another day relaxing at home binge watching 'Lost in Space' on Netflix with the hubs. He's at the grocery store now stocking up on food for the next few days in case I feel rough after the retrieval. From what I hear from others it can go either way; one can feel good or bad the next few days post-procedure.
I didn't introduce myself properly in my last post. I am 36, and my husband is 44. We have been married since 1/2015, and TTC since 1/2016. We were unsuccessful for a year, and in that year I cut back on alcohol and coffee, adopted a healthy lifestyle, ovulation test kits, and did acupuncture and massage, but we were never able to get a positive pregnancy test. We waited another 6 month to seek out fertility treatments because we anticipated moving across the country for my husband's job. We did 3 IUI's back to back from October to December without success. Our diagnosis is unexplained, which I find so frustrating!
Best of luck to all you ladies out there trying for IVF success!
@shellsbells01 my clinic does hcg trigger subcutaneously. Some do IM. Seems to be one of those "not a big deal" things. But it's so irritating when something is not a big deal to the doctors and nurses but it's a big deal to you!!
AFM, I just finished my injections for my 5th day of stims. I'm a poor responder so I'm on a huge dose of Gonal-F, in addition to Menopur and Saizen. I had blood drawn this morning and my E2 was still lower than we hoped it would be. I'm already exhausted and I feel like we still have a long ways to go!
@shellsbells01, how did the retrieval go and how are you feeling? I’m glad your online research was reassuring about the trigger. Googling things can go either way, it can drive you crazy or give you much needed peace of mind!
@megmac2010, I hear you on the being exhausted! I hope the next time you get your blood drawn your E2 is looking better.
AFM, I’m on Day 9 of stims and my 10 follicles are still growing but growing slowly...only 2 at the 10 mm mark and all the others still under it. We had to order a refill of Menopur today since we clearly won’t be doing the retrieval on Thursday. I have an appointment at 7 AM Wednesday to see how they’re doing then. Grow, follicles, grow!
Hi ladies! I’m going to jump in over here as I am waiting for the call but will be starting MDL tonight and stims tomorrow. This is my second IVF. I went for baseline BW and US this morning and had 5 follicles less than 10 on the right and 4 less than 10 on the left. I’m doing a microflare protocol + HGH this cycle. Last cycle was antagonist which produced 7 eggs, 5 mature, 1 blast which *TW* resulted in a CP after a FET end TW*. I’m feeling good about this cycle and started estrace and ganirellix in my luteal phase last week. Sorry to join so late!
@beachbunnyxo123 nice to see a familiar screen name from Jan IVF, but sad to hear about the CP on your last IVF/FET cycle. here we find ourselves, again -- i'm on the May FET board. lets hope those follies are all ready to cooperate and grow!! is the plan to do PGS testing and then FET in a future month? FX for you
*lurking also* @beachbunnyxo123 Sending good vibes your way!!! Hope this cycle produces lots for you this time around!!

@northbeach3@kristimh80 hi ladies!!!!!!! Nice to see some familiar people. I’ve been lurking the threads a bit to lurk on others from our January IVF group to see how everyone’s been doing!
@northbeach3 wishing you lots of luck with your FET! Are you doing medicated or natural? I’m going to be doing PGS testing so they will put me on BCPs when I get AF after retrieval and then prepping for transfer
@kristimh80 how are you doing? Where are you currently at regarding treatment?
@megmac2010 You can do it! You got this! Only a few more days of injections to go!
@Augusta108, Sending you positive vibes for your growing follicles! Thanks for asking about my retrieval! The egg retrieval on Monday went smoothly. We started out the morning a little rough as we were stuck in a traffic jam due to heavy rains, and ended up being a half hour late to the clinic. But no worries, there was a lot of down time before it was my turn to go in for the procedure. So I meditated to relax. One thing I found really weird was when I went into the operating room and they had me lay on my back and put my legs up into the leg braces that were up above me, and it felt so unnatural to flash my lady bits at the nurses who were standing near my rear as if it was normal! I guess they are totally used to it, but I am not! Haha! The injectable drugs they gave me were magic! I could feel myself getting woozy and then I was out. The next thing I remember I’m back in my hospital bed. The nurse said the procedure took 33 minutes! My husband was laughing at me because he said I was really loopy and chatting about nonsense after the procedure. Luckily, I just needed 1 percocet in the evening, and I haven’t been in too much pain since.
They retrieved 12 eggs, which I am happy about. 10 of them were mature, and 9 fertilized. My clinic doesn’t give any other updates, so I’m just to show up at the clinic on Saturday for the transfer. So, to track their progress, I’m just going to imagine what stage of growth they are at each day leading up to Saturday. Today they became 2 celled embryos. Tomorrow they will be 4 cells, etc. I know it doesn’t exactly match up like that, but it’ll help me imagine how they are doing to bide my time.
I started my progesterone suppositories today, and it’s leaking out of me, gross! Was that TMI? It makes me want to put a plug up there to stop the leaking! Haha! I was thinking a tampon wrapped in cellophane? Any thoughts?
Beachbunnyxo123, good luck on your cycle! It’s a promising start!
@beachbunny123 Feel feel to chime in whenever you see us! I'm waiting on my May AF, so sitting out this cycle due to doctor not being able to get me in after the last cycle. FX for you this cycle for you and PGS testing!! With PGS, the wait can seem to drag on, but it's worth it

@beachbunnyxo123 I’ll be doing a medicated cycle bc of irregular cycles. It’ll be my first FET so curious what the estrogen ride is like. Crossinng fingers for everyone!
@shellsbells01 that’s great news! Hoping for a great report next time you go in and lots of snowbabies!
@kristimh80 yes definitely worth it! Last IVF I was waiting to get a surgery after ER so the wait for PGS didn’t seem long. I’ll be doing an endometrial biopsy between this ER and transfer so hopefully the time will pass quick this cycle as well. Hope that you’re able to somewhat enjoy the treatment break although the wait can be tough. I’m really rooting for you!
@northbeach3 for my FET I was on estrace about 3 times a day and then PIO. It wasn’t too bad besides the nausea from the estrace and having zero appetite. May is almost here! Will be thinking of you!
@beachbunnyxo123 oh crap this is the first I’ve heard of nausea as a side effect. I’m prone to all kinds of nausea and remember getting it when I started BCP for the first time. But I do like the idea of no appetite! Been trying to lose the five pounds I gained during IVF! Haha
@beachbunnyxo123 Wonderful! I am going to talk to my RE about doing an endometrial biopsy or at least a scratch right before the next transfer. Nothing else, it'll be a good thing to ease you mind going into things. I really wished they offered those right off the bat for everyone.

I figure I will join April as well as May, my CD1 was on 4/14 and estimated ER is 4/28-5/4. I have my history in my signature that mentions loss and such. Dont really want to get into it right this second. Plan is as follows: 4/16-4/20 femera 2x daily 4/16-trigger clomid 2x daily and dexamethazon 1x daily Follicle and BW check 4/21 4/22-trigger 150 gonal f and 75 menopur (adding ganarelix as needed) Will do a lupron trigger
last cycle I stimmed for 18 days so thats why I have such a large window for possible ER dates. This is the first cycle with the dexamethazon which is supposed to help with response to the meds so we shall see if I end up on the earlier side of the window.
Good luck to all the ladies here!

Hello! I'd like to join you all and share my first forum post. Intro: 32yrs w/ DOR. This is my 3rd stim cycle, and will be my second ER.
1st cycle: never went to ER because only 1 follicle size 13. Stimmed for about 9 days.
second cycle:10 retrieved. 7 fertilized but 6 didn’t make it to freeze. My 1 remaining was PGS normal and in the bank.
This cycle: and Like @lady_a I had only 3 follicles this month. They matured quickely and after only 5 days stim and ER is set for Sat. It is a bummer to only have so few but I’m hopeful. If we get any embryos we will do a Fresh transfer and PGS test any remaining(fingers crossed). We never planned on a fresh transfer but I am impatient & have heard so many success stories lately with fresh so- WTH, why not! Lol
@lady_a How is everything going? Are you in TWW At this po
@mandurz good luck! I was in the same boat and thought I would be a May retrieval but here I am. Do you have a retrieval date yet?
@shellsbells01 congrats on a successful ER! I’m not looking forward to the suppositories but I’m scared of the POI shot. After your description, maybe i should consider the POI
@sunny_side not solid yet but any time between 4/28-5/4. It all depends on how well the dexamethasone helps me respond to the stims this time. Between Dec 2017 and Jan 2018 I stimmed for 18 days instead of 12-14 and like you only ended up with 1 embryo to pgs, so here I am again to try and add more to that. It's great that you already have an ER date. Good luck! And with 3 eggs the fresh transfer sounds like a great option. So exciting!

@sunny_side, I heard the progesterone injection isn’t that bad and doesn’t hurt, it’s the bigger needle that scares people, but the shot itself is not that bad in the end. I would’ve been open to the shot, but my doctor prescribed the suppository 3 times a day, so I’m just going with it for now.
@shellsbells01@sunny_side the PIO injections are definitely not as bad as they look! The injection itself doesn’t hurt it’s more of the soreness after you’ve done several shots.
@sunny_side what medication protocols have you done for your retrievals?
@shellsbells01 Hoping everything goes well this week! When do you get your final embryo report?
AFM last night was my first night of stims. I started my MDL on Tuesday though. Slept like a rock last night which wa great. My stims made me super sleepy last time too. I go back for monitoring again on Saturday
This is is my fourth medicated cycle and I'm on a huge dose of Gonal-F, as well as Menopur and Saizen. I'm 8 days into stims and I'm feeling like absolute garbage.
My follicles and blood levels are looking good. Cycle is going fine. I just feel so crummy.
Trying to eat well and stay active, but I'm looking for suggestions for some self love stuff I can do to prevent myself from wallowing on the couch. Any tips?
Thanks @shellsbells01. Keeping my fingers crossed you you! Im sure i can do it but it’s still daunting because it’s oil/ thicker i guess? I had to give myself the hcg IM trigger last night and it was definitely easier than last month...perhaps because I was half sitting on a stool vs standing/balancing. Last night, I had that a glass of wine first and (as always) played music while administering the shot! It helped.
@beachbunnyxo123 I do a shot in the A.M. and PM with 75 menopur, 75 gonalF and 20ui lupron. I too get sleepy feeling and can have some pretty wacky hormone dreams.
@megmac2010 sorry you are not feeling great right now. I always get so tired with all these meds, so I try and take a short walk. I live on a cul-de-sac so I just walk around that a few times and it does help a little. I hope you can find something to help pull you out of the funk of the meds.
AFM had my first follicle check yesterday and only about 3-4 on each side all less than 11mm, but that is what we expected right now. I get to start my every other day gonal f and menopur today. Nurse did not tell me what my estrogen level was but said it was "within normal range". Next check is Monday. I am definitely glad to be going but I have a feeling that I will be stimming longer than most again. I have to remind myself slow and steady is better than too fast as it can hurt the egg quality.

Bummer news: Egg retrieval was yesterday and as I was waking up from anesthesia I heard the Doctor telling my husband that there were no eggs retrieved. Nothing. I guess the follicles were empty.
Venting/ Ramble: After my last retrieval in Feb, the Dr. called me to congratulate me on my 10 eggs and told me “you did a great job.” This time there was no phone call and no “great job.” I know that doesn’t mean I did anything wrong but you can’t help but think what if I had relaxed more, or not had that glass of wine, what if I...
Most online outlets and social media involve sharing life’s “highlight reel” but this is real life and sometimes real hard. I decided to share my post because I knew it would make me feel better to vent and perhaps someone else in a similar spot would know they aren’t alone.
Never the less, I’ll do another ivf cycle next month. Keeping my fingers crossed for the next phone call and “great job”. Thanks for listening.

From what I understand the target is for my E2 (estrogen) levels to ~ double each visit (every 2 days). During my first cycle my levels were 433 on Day 4 and 793 on Day 6. This cycle, I was at 478 on Day 4 but I am now at 1379 pg/ml on Day 6. I am taking an additional 75 IU of the Menopur, but other than that my protocol has remained the same. I wasn’t given any instruction to reduce the medications, so I am guessing they aren’t too concerned with the increase therefore I will try not to worry myself.

Happy sunday day to everyone!!
FX for you

Plan is as follows:
4/16-4/20 femera 2x daily
4/16-trigger clomid 2x daily and dexamethazon 1x daily
Follicle and BW check 4/21
4/22-trigger 150 gonal f and 75 menopur (adding ganarelix as needed)
Will do a lupron trigger
last cycle I stimmed for 18 days so thats why I have such a large window for possible ER dates. This is the first cycle with the dexamethazon which is supposed to help with response to the meds so we shall see if I end up on the earlier side of the window.
Good luck to all the ladies here!

Any tips?
@megmac2010
im sorry you are feeling crummy
@beachbunnyxo123 how did the check go yesterday?
AFM had my first follicle check yesterday and only about 3-4 on each side all less than 11mm, but that is what we expected right now. I get to start my every other day gonal f and menopur today. Nurse did not tell me what my estrogen level was but said it was "within normal range". Next check is Monday. I am definitely glad to be going but I have a feeling that I will be stimming longer than most again. I have to remind myself slow and steady is better than too fast as it can hurt the egg quality.

Egg retrieval was yesterday and as I was waking up from anesthesia I heard the Doctor telling my husband that there were no eggs retrieved. Nothing. I guess the follicles were empty.
Venting/ Ramble:
After my last retrieval in Feb, the Dr. called me to congratulate me on my 10 eggs and told me “you did a great job.” This time there was no phone call and no “great job.” I know that doesn’t mean I did anything wrong but you can’t help but think what if I had relaxed more, or not had that glass of wine, what if I...
Sending you you lots of long-distance good vibes.
