@hillbillywife I looooove the name Reid. I would totally have used it for one of my boys if we didn’t have a single syllable last name (that is also a word).
@comealongponds we have a single syllable last name too and that makes me leery. I always think about being at school and having his name called. Flow is important to me. So as much as I love Reid, I’ll probably choose a 2-syllable name instead
@hillbillywife I love Reid! I would have used it for DS but that is my cousin’s name.

We’ve been pretty set on Sloane and the middle name will likely be Amelia. But I need to have a second choice to go to the hospital with. I’m just weird about that after we changed baby #3’s name after meeting her. The only other name that I really like right now is Penelope. I’ve always loved it but the nickname Penny is holding me back. I know several pets named Penny so it kind of ruins it for me and I feel like people will automatically shorten it to that.
Any thoughts on Penelope vs. Sloane?

@hillbillywife I love every name on your list!! Those are literally all on my list too! Right now I’m in love with Easton and I’d use Reid as a middle name! (It’s my number 1)
@Sarafuss I prefer Penelope but I gravitate towards much girlier names typically so that’s not surprising. If you plan on her having a nickname, you could always pick something other than Penny...maybe Nell/Nellie, Ellie/Elle, Lola....you can stretch it lots of ways since it’s such a long name!
Finally able to chime in here now that we are settled on a name! We are going with Olivia as it is a name we have both loved (me for decades!!) but i cringe thinking about how trendy it has become as of late. Middle name needs to be 1 syllable and still undecided.
@Sarafuss Penelope was my girls name if this LO had been a girl and the nicknames I thought of were Nell and Nelly. I do like Penny, so I didn't care that that was one. and I LOVE the nickname Lo also just hadn't thought of it! If we ever have a girl, this name will still be my go to.
I do also like Sloane. The only thing that would hold me back from that personally is the lack of nicknames (I need all names to have at least one!) and the fact that I think of Sloane from Entourage, which isn't bad her character was ok but she was super high mainenance, which isn't really our style (not that its bad if its yours!) and so we never embraced that name.
Thanks for the feedback ladies! I do really like the nickname Nell for Penelope!
@SmashJam I kind of feel that way too about the lack of nicknames for Sloane. I was concerned about that with our other kids too (Roman, Paige and Lucas). We never really gave Roman a nickname and we sometimes call Paige "Paige-y" but mostly her nickname is "Sissy". Lucas is either Luke or Luke-y/Lukie (I don't know how to spell them lol!). So I think she would be Sloane-y but I don't totally love that. And I only ever saw the Entourage movie once (never watched the show) and can't remember that character (was she in the movie?). My only reference for Sloane is Ferris Bueller's Day Off and have a positive association of that character. My only other concern is that I'm not sure how Penelope sounds on a grown woman. I can picture it for the name Sloane but Penelope just makes me think of a little girl. Maybe because I've never met an adult woman named Penelope? Clearly, I'm overthinking this!
I think we will keep Sloane and Penelope as options and see how they feel. Roman (6 yo) doesn't seem to like Sloane but Paige does and calls here Sloane-y lol. Anytime I call the baby Sloane he says, "But we haven't decided that that's her name yet!" He's pulling for Rosie. So cute that he has an opinion but I told him it's up to Mom and Dad to decide lol.

This should be my unpopular opinion - I don't like nicknames. I mean just for my kids in particular. My son is Eli, no way to shorten that haha. # 2 will probably be Owen, not interested in shortening that. I guess I just like to pick legal names that I actually want to call my kids. All the kids in my family are one syllable except my oldest brother, so maybe it comes from that - none of us have nick names. So @sarafuss I love Sloane and would have zero issue with not having nicknames for it - it doesn't need a nickname! I do love Penelope too, but probably wouldn't use it myself because it would likely get shortened/nick named and that's not my style. Both are lovely though.
@hillbillywife I love all of your name choices! They are all good I hear what you are saying about not using a name that you had picked out for another child. Madelyn was our girl name when I was pregnant with my son and now that we are having a girl I feel weird about using it, but I don't think it's going to stop me from doing so. Mostly I'm just too lazy to pick a new name

@zande2016 I agree with you for the most part lol. I don't want other people giving my kids nicknames which is my concern with Penelope and why we chose the names we did for our other kids. And we choose each name with the intention of calling them that. But around the house, we tend to give them silly nicknames like "Lukie". Obviously, we won't be calling him that as he gets older but for some reason, we (mostly my husband) naturally just call them a cutesy version of their name sometimes. If we chose Penelope I could see us using the full name for the most part. It's hard to say what nickname would develop naturally.
ETA: I remember when my first was born my mom tried calling him Romi a few times and I shut that down lol. For some reason, he never got a nickname.

We are having a girl. My husband and i made a deal that i could name this baby because he named our first lol I wanted an "old, classic" name so i picked Ruby Jane. Jane after my grandmother
I find boy names WAY harder than girls. And of course, we're having a boy this time! I've got a list of about 10 that I like, but nothing we really love yet. We both like Jeremiah, but don't like the nickname Jeremy and think that would be a natural one he would be called.
@MichelleAG05 I wouldn’t automatically think that Jeremy is a nickname for Jeremiah.. I think Jeremy is a stand alone name. I would think Jer would be a better nickname.
We’re pretty set on the name Jade, but having trouble finding a middle name. I’d like to use my sisters middle name, Michelle, but I don’t know if they sound great together. My last name has the word “bell” in it so there’s a little bit of rhyming! Any ideas for middle names? Since it’s a one syllable name I think at least 3 syllables sounds the best
@runsomewhere I like Laurel (I had a childhood friend named Laurel and I always thought it was so cool). It’s a bit of a mouthful with Althea, I like Laurel Thea or Laurel Ariella better.
@comealongponds thanks, I think I agree about it being a mouthful. I have yet to find someone that loves the name Althea, Thea is super cute though. My daughter is Audrey so realistically that would also sounds weird as sibling names. I could see Audrey and Lauren or Audrey and Brielle.
@runsomewhere what about Althea Laurel? I think Althea is super cute, and it totally fits with Audrey imo if you don’t mind that they start with the same letter!
@runsomewhere Lillian sounds nice with Jade! And Ava too- I can see how it doesn’t matter the syllables but just how the name flows. i love all of your contenders too- especially Brielle and Althea and Ariella
@julianne0 to be fair my middle name is Kaye (my mom always wanted it Kae but my grandma wanted Kay so she compromised. Lol).
And Ann is a family name for both sides of our families so, when my husband asked if we could have the middle name be Ann, if the baby was a girl, I said sure. Finding a name to go with it was suuuuuper hard though! It felt like it took us forever to decide on her name. We had the boy name picked out practically from day 1 of our first pregnancy. And of course we ended up with 2 girls!
Okay ladies, I am on the hunt for a 3-4 syllable girl name that does not start with a vowel. Any suggestions? I'm struggling to find something I like that flows well with the first name we picked.
Edited to add: However, I think I'm looking for something super feminine to balance out our "not so feminine" first name choice. It's like searching for a needle in a haystack. So frustrating!
@foxbaby2016 Off the top of my head I can think of Delilah, Leticia, Mikayla (or any spelling variation), Mackenzie, Marissa, Cassandra, Cynthia, Sophia, and Daniella. Not that any of these may be your style... they aren't mine lol. But just what I could think of. Maybe it will spark someone else's thoughts though
@foxbaby2016 the only name I can think of (that doesn't start with a vowel) is Savannah. That's our first daughter's middle name to go with her one syllable first name (Paige). But I'm not sure it's super feminine. The middle names I keep coming up with all start with A (Amelia, Annabelle, etc).
