@chopchop25 - i have! Not a huge fan though. My son has a dairy/soy allergy, so we went through all the milk alternatives. Almond milk tastes the best in my opinion (but we couldn't send it to daycare because nuts), so we went with Flax milk (with protein), because it has the closest nutrition to regular milk and tastes good, and works well in cooking. Coconut is a nice treat, but so high in saturated fat!
Okay so in my head this seems like a dumb question, but after a quick google search which lead me to the craziness that is Babycenter, the responses there were all "WHAT!! OF COURSE NOT?!?!! HOW CAN YOU BE SO STUPID?!?!" (I didn't ask there, I just read responses that other people have gotten.) So yeah, can you ride a four wheeler while pregnant? I've never thought about it being unsafe, but apparently the vibrations or something aren't good for you especially during early pregnancy? We're supposed to go to this huge atv park next weekend when I'll be right at 9 weeks and I'll just be riding on trails, not jumping hills or anything, but I want to make sure its safe. I've gotten mixed responses from my family/friends who know I'm pregnant. And yeah I can call my doctor on Monday and ask but I wanted to get feedback here first. Also I'm impatient.
@chopchop25 I’ve had hemp milk and thought it was good but pricier and harder to find than some other nut milks. My husband and son are both very into flax milk with protein. I personally like cashew milk best but it doesn’t have as much protein as I’d like.
@stithof Yeah I'd sooo much rather be safe than sorry, so I'll absolutely call my doctor monday morning and ask. DH has a Polaris Ranger that he's taking, so I'd just ride with him if I can't ride the four wheeler, unless the doc says no to that too. Which would suckkkkk since we paid $140 back in December for us to go to this thing lol
@lynzev If you are just trail riding and not doing anything crazy that could make you fall off, I'd still do it. Only if you're comfortable with it, of course. But I still went mountain biking until my second tri last time, so...
@lynzev Damn! I hate that you will probably have to eat that $140, but always better safe than sorry.
We will still go because a big group of friends are going, but I'd probably just have to ride in a truck with someone instead of riding on the ranger. The bright side is, we won't have to take my four wheeler which is great because I'm super picky about other people riding it without me haha.
@SawyerRichardson *TW* If I hadn't had a blighted ovum in the past, I probably wouldn't even give it a second thought, but I'll just call the doctor to get his opinion.
@lynzev my Dr told me that anything where you may get a blow to the abdomen is not a good idea. I've never heard about the vibrations being bad, but I haven't asked about that either.
I plan on riding my motorcycle until it's too uncomfortable. I'm thinking about riding tomorrow actually. Everything I've read says it's fine. An ATV might be a little different since you're trail riding though.
Are childbirth classes really necessary in the age of the Internet and YouTube?
I was really happy we did ours. First we did an infant CPR class - it was maybe 3 hours one evening. Totally worth it, because I had never taken a CPR class. Our childbirth class was a Saturday and Sunday, 4 hours each day. It did a lot to answer our questions, ease our anxieties, and speak to other couples that were in the same mind frame we were. It actually helped make me more excited about it all.
Also, we did a hospital orientation, which was helpful. The most helpful part was that the head anesthesiologist spoke to us and explained pain interventions pretty clearly, and DEFINITELY eased my fears about getting the epidural.
I’m planning to do an in person child birth class for a number of reasons. I want to make sure that my labor partner is working with the same basic information that I am, and while I’m pretty sure he would review any videos or whatnot I sent, I prefer to be certain.
Also, I think it will be good for us to get the information at the same time, so we can talk it over. We aren’t always on the same page, and the better he understands my feelings and thoughts, the more comfortable we will both be with everything.
Finally, if there are any partnered exercises, I think we’ll be more comfortable looking goofy if there are other people around us looking goofy too.
@stithof For the woman, I don't think they are super necessary. For your support person, definitely. I didn't care about taking them because I had done tons of research. The only reason we took them was so my H would have a general idea of what was going to happen when the moment comes. A man standing in the delivery room like a deer in headlights is not going to help anything!
I would like the childbirth class to pre-cana before a wedding. We learned a few things, but really it was about us spending the time mentally prepping together.
Has anyone being getting numb "down there", particularly from exercise?
I was on my bike ladt night and honestly not even exercising that hard, but I ended up painfully numb. I'm thinking extra blood flow but wondering if the bike is a bad idea...
The childbirth class was SO important for MH. I pretty much knew everything, but he came out of it so much more knowledgeable than he was. Plus we met a couple that were still friends with! Gotta love mommy friends
@lynzev my Dr told me that anything where you may get a blow to the abdomen is not a good idea. I've never heard about the vibrations being bad, but I haven't asked about that either.
My Dr told me the same thing but added at 12 weeks. I believe his exact words were to “stop anything that could lead to an impact to your abdomen at 12 weeks.” We were discussing workouts and if I could/should start doing P90X3 again, so I also didn’t ask about vibrations as it didn’t really apply. (For the record, he ok’d the workouts and I have done exactly 0 of them... first tri kind of sucks).
We didn’t do a class last time. We couldn’t get into the twin birthing class because of our schedule and the fact that they only did them once every 2 months. I stopped trying to once we found out I was having a planned c-section (breach babies). This time I’m hoping for a VBAC. For those that took the classes, do you recommend the ones in the hospital or should we look for private, more in depth classes? I had a m/c while my husband was home and based on his reaction to that, I’m thinking we need classes and probably a doula too. I plan on taking my kids to the siblings class to help prepare them.
Definitely got a ton out of our birth class, as did DH. Is it all out there online somewhere, sure. But both of us setting aside physical time together to go focus on just this one thing made us (DH especially) more engaged. There’s some to ask any questions you may have about your specific situation. And the drive home was always full of good conversation about what we’d learned, how we invisioned things going, etc.
My DH didn’t really take our childbirth class too seriously, and I felt like I knew a lot of what they taught already from the books I had been reading. It was helpful though, because they did a hospital tour with it so we got to see labor & delivery, and got oriented a little to where we need to go when I’m in labor, etc. I’d probably recommend it just for that alone, but moreso if you have a husband that will take it seriously
I usually track on my Fitbit app. Although, I've been lax on it since getting pregnant. It definitely helps me see how I'm doing and encourages me to drink more.
@chopchop25 I really like oat milk although it can be hard to to find. It’s less expensive than other non dairy milks usually and tastes good. Milkadamia is also good, made from macadamia nuts but it’s pricey!
Really glad people are talking about birth classes! I’ve been wondering that myself and appreciate the opinions!
Is Canesten safe to use during pregnancy? Experiencing a mild yeast infection. Most I've read online says the vaginal tablets and external cream is safe...
@knottieamusements No app, but I used to fill my 40 oz water bottle to help keep track. I knew I needed to drink 2 full bottles a day, which was much easier to track/count than smaller glasses or remembering to put everything in an app.
This time I’m not working, so I’ve just been using 16 oz glasses since they’re easier to wash than my water bottle and I have more than 1 so it isn’t a big deal if I forget to wash it.
Funny you guys are talking birth classes! Was just starting to think about them. I know someone else asked but didn't see an answer... Hospital classes vs non hospital classes? I am looking into pain free birth and will see what classes for those are around but just wondering over all opinion on hospital class vs not. Our hospital offers tours without classes so I don't have to take a class to do that thankfully.

I’ve never heard of Canesten, but my doctor recommended the 7 day Monistat too.
Forum question: the advice for FTM thread got ressurected, and the OP of that thread lost her baby. Can we ask the admins to close it? I hate to think of her getting a bunch of notifications.

I lost the post with the insomnia question. Any STM+ have it in the first tri? I didn’t have any trouble sleeping with my last pregnancy until I was in 3rd tri and heartburn and the whole being huge and uncomfortable thing happened. This time I just don’t fall asleep. I went to bed at 10 last night, and laid there - no wandering thoughts keeping me awake or anything, just waiting to fall asleep... for 2 hours. Then I woke up at 4 to pee and did the same thing again, except my husband’s alarm went off as I was drifting off and that was it, I wasn’t falling asleep any time soon and had to get up an hour later with the kids anyway.
Even with only 4 hours of sleep I am far less tired than I was when I was pregnant with twins. I’m sure it helps that I’m a SAHM and can veg on the couch whenever I need to, but does this go away in the second tri? This pregnancy I was looking forward to the second tri energy burst that everybody talks about and it that won’t be happening, I’d rather know now. I never got it with the twins - I was just exhausted for 9 months (well, longer than that, but sleep deprivation feels different than the physical exhaustion I had while pregnant).
Has anyone here had to have dental work during pregnancy? I just broke a tooth and have to have it fixed because it's cutting my mouth, but I'm not quite out of the first trimester yet (11w2d) so I'm freaking out.
@purplegoldfish2 I had the same issue last night. And then hubby had to be up at 2:15am and of course the dog waited until after he left to want out...I ended up taking a benydrl to help me sleep.
