    Why are you high-risk?
    diabetes, AMA, IC

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
just had my cerclage check yesterday... everything looks good- we check again in two weeks

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rant: Pelvic rest for remainder of the pregnancy sucks.... this will pretty much be my weekly rant lol
Rave: 15w5d and i've managed to maintain blood sugar control with no meds... hopefully i can keep this going!!! also starting to get energy back, so that is a plus

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
assuming i wasn't diabetic in this scenario, i would eat cinnamon toast crunch.... i am seriously obsessed and so sad i can't eat it

    19w1d, I think.

    Why are you high-risk?
    Lots of scrabble tiles.

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
    Nope. 2 weeks until AS!!!

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Its exhausting being a coach. Being a pregnant coach is ridiculous level exhausting.  Always being yelled at 'You are WITH CHILD!!!! You CAN'T Do that!' is the most common thing yelled at practice or games.

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Hmmm, this is a tough one. Carbs with red marinara sauce. I could eat breads or pastas every day with red sauce. Maybe some cheese on there.

Why are you high-risk? Old, 2 previous MCs, corrected septate uterus

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? Not this week, but i have my next appointment on  Monday the 19th!! I'm so excited.

Rants/Raves/Questions? My rant is probably this heartburn. When it flares up, it's HORRIBLE. Luckily it's not 24/7, but also I can't seem to pinpoint what makes it happen. Sometimes laying a certain way, sometimes eating something, sometimes just drinking water.

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Oh man - such a hard question. Probably something with cheese. Mac n cheese or enchiladas. With cookies for dessert.

@harleyquinn0621 Cinnamon toast crunch is my favorite cereal! Oh man.. such a delicious sugar bomb!

Why are you high-risk? Diabetes and AMA

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? Just had MFM yesterday and I'm still in happy sparkle land with my A1C results! Anatomy scan a week from Friday!

Rants/Raves/Questions? I wasn't necessarily high-risk at this point in my last pregnancy so I'm a bit more nervous for the anatomy scan this time. We have the fetal echo at 24 weeks so any heart issues will be identified but it's still making me nervous. Last time my diabetes diagnosis was so high-drama that I didn't really have time to process anything before we were on to the next thing. This time it feels like I have nothing BUT time to sit and think about all the 'what ifs'

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Sushi!

    Why are you high-risk?
I have a tendency to have high blood pressure, I make tiny babies, and I'm older than dirt.

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
    Nope

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Still pretty desperate for any help with my daily headaches. A friend suggested acupuncture, which I'm willing to try. Anyone have any experience with it?

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
My answer to this would change dramatically based on my mood. Today we're snowed in, so my answer would be beef stew, freshly baked baguette with butter, roasted Brussels sprouts, and apple pie for dessert.

Why are you high-risk? AMA, RPL, BP creeping up

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? Regular OB appointment yesterday.  Blood pressure was normal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heard HB with Doppler-155 strong and steady.  Next appointment is anatomy scan.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rant, or a pout: My OB has been super sweet and to ease my anxiety has been doing every two week check ups even though not really medically warranted.  She's asked me to wait for my anatomy scan for my next appointment (ultrasound then see her directly after)...it's almost four freaking weeks away.  Theoretically I should be feeling baby move soonish so that should help ease anxiety but dang it I like the reassurance.

Rave: we finally feel comfortable sharing so we shared with folks yesterday after the appointment.  Close family has known for 3 weeks (about) but no one else.  Soooo yay!

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I'm not sure I could do that.  Carbs with cheese (if I can be that generic lol).  Mac and cheese, pasta, pizza, etc.  I don't think I can pick a specific food.

  • @redheadbride15 I did acupuncture for years, and focused quite a bit on my headaches, and absolutely loved it. Really research the provider, but I would definitely look into it. I really appreciated a lot of the eastern medicine I tried when I was waiting for western medicine to figure out what was going on with me.

    How far along are you?
    18w+6d

    Why are you high-risk?
Genetic condition and heart condition on my part. Just found out today I have vasa previa, so add that to the list.

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Had the anatomy scan today and baby is doing great. But from here on out, ultrasounds every 2 weeks to look at baby’s cord placement and see if it moves away from my cervix. Also swab testing starting at 24w every 2 weeks to check for risk of pre-term labor. If swab is positive, baby will be delivered via CS ASAP.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
As glad as I am to know about baby’s cord and have a great plan (and wonderful MFM doc), it still freaks the hell out of me. We always knew we would have an early baby because of my genetic stuff, which I was totally prepared for before ever getting pregnant. But this is just a whole new layer. I feel like a ticking time bomb now. And I’m terrified of a CS, I don’t do well with anesthesia and have poor wound healing so I’m just scared.

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Authentic clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. I had this as a kid and loved it, and am
so allergic to it now, I’d love to have it again. Oh and a vanilla frosting filled powder sugar donut from DD. Also allergic to that now and miss them like crazy!
  • @kc0711 Can you explain what the swab test will tell them? I have never heard of this.

Why are you high-risk? Ds has numerous birth defects, iugr, past pregnancy induced hypertension

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? Not this week

Rants/Raves/Questions? Everyone's anatomy scans (including mine) are coming up so soon. I'm nervous for everyone bc of how traumatic mine was last time. It brings waves of memories and emotions back to me like it was yesterday. I know the statistics behind certain birth defects and I'm not as naive as I was last time. Every bmb has bad news (usually more than 1) at the scan and it's not just finding out the sex.  Every time I open the board I'm on pins scared to see someone making a bad news post. I'm hoping maybe since our board is smaller maybe ours will be at a minimum? Sorry for the feelings and word vomit.

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Tacos

  • @princesslockness as far as I understand, it is a q-tip like swab that they swipe the inside of the vagina/cervix and send it to the lab. The swab tests for something (I don’t know what that something is) that can predict preterm labor within the next two weeks. So after 24w and up to 34w, they will swab me every two weeks to make sure there are no signs of preterm labor.
  • @redheadbride15 I've had acupuncture done for a knee injury a few years ago. I tried a typical western orthopedic doctor, and he gave me some pills, but they never worked. I went on a recommendation from a friend and the acupuncture worked wonderfully - a few treatments and my knee pain was gone.

@kc0711 I'm also curious about the swab testing - what are they testing for exactly? Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but so glad your MFM has a plan moving forward.

@mrsbubbles-2 Congrats on the great A1C results! And I understand about the scan nervousness. I was born with a heart defect, which raises our chances of LO having one too by a smidgen - waiting to see that heart is going to be very nerve-wracking for me!

  • @meeks2020 i TOTALLY understand AS anxiety... that was the day we found out things were going so terribly wrong with my pregnancy with my son and we lost him that day. to make matters worse, the dates are so close.... last year it was April 13, 2017... My AS this time is April 9 ........ totally not looking forward to mine ... i just keep telling myself different pregnancy different outcome but that doesn't provide much comfort

  • @hezzer78 @princesslockness I did a Dr Google search and it tells me the swab test is a fetal fibronectin test. Looks interesting, I didn’t even know this was a thing!
  • @kc0711 Interesting. Even in the rounds of PTL at 28 weeks, never had that test.

@harleyquinn0621 I'm so terribly sorry that you have memories that are interfering with being able to enjoy this pregnancy and its milestones to the fullest. If there is anything we can do, please let us know.

Crohns, autoimmune liver disease and autoimmune arthritis

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Got a call from my ob regarding abnormal sequential screen resulta, even though cell free panorama was normal. Apt with genetic counseling this week.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Stressed. All ultrasounds and testing have been normal until now. I know the cell free is really good, but now I  am getting nervous about a potential amnio.

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Dim sum. Okay thats kind of cheating. If I had to choose, probably a frutti de mare in red mariana with homemade pasta and chocolate gelato for dessert.

I try not to think about it but I'm pretty nervous about the anatomy scan.  Everyone in my life is super concerned we aren't finding out sex.  That's the least of my worries.  I'm old, my eggs are old, the important stuff on that day has nothing to do with what's between the baby's legs.  I'm scared about brain and heart development and so many other things.

    Why are you high-risk?
MTHFR and PAI-1 mutations, 2 precious MCs

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
Nope—2 more weeks until my next appt and 4 until AS

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rants. I’ve been on blood thinner injections and baby aspirin since the beginning of my pregnancy because they think blood clots might’ve caused my precious losses. Last week I get a flippant voicemail from my midwife that, after consulting the entire practice, I can drop either the aspirin or injections—whichever I choose, and have a good day. I was furious and called back requesting a more thorough discussion, more info, and a deeper dive into the risks and reasons for the change. Just got the call back and they’re sticking to the same story, so now I’m considering finding a new OB for at least a second opinion...

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
    Chicken alfredo or chicken quesadillas!
  • I also have anatomy scan anxiety... I don’t talk much about my professional life here but I study birth defects for a living and I see bad AS outcomes almost every day. Many of you here understand this all too well as you have pointed out, but most people don’t. It’s why I don’t share the news of my pregnancy beyond immediate family and my best friend until 3rd trimester. The poor ultrasound techs probably get tired of me when I ask them to show me every single organ for the third time in a row...

@kc0711 Do you have any suggestions of specific things I should research or find out about an acupuncturist? I feel like online reviews are a crap shoot.

  • @redheadbride15 I would really look into where they went to school/trained, what their style of practice is, and how long they have been in practice. Other things you can ask about is how the dispose of equipment/sterilize.  I take online reviews with a grain of salt, people either post great or terrible reviews, not the in between.
  • ugh i'm so frustrated not knowing what is normal pregnancy pain... and what is something i should be concerned about... today i'm feeling some pain in my right lower abdomen ... round ligament pain maybe? can anyone describe what that would feel like?

  • RLP feels like a twinge/pulling pain from the side of the uterus down to the pubic bone. Imagine a V on your belly, with the uterus at the top connected on both sides and the pubic bone at the point in the bottom.

RLP doesn't hurt when I push on it from the outside. So if you're worried about appendicitis, you can always try the "rebound pain test". Push where it hurts, if it hurts more when you let go, you should go to the doctor/ER.

And most importantly, if you are worried and nothing is allaying those fears, go see your doctor anyway. Keep us updated!
  • @harleyquinn0621 - I'm so sorry you're worried! So I was having the same thing the other day - it was RLP-like at first but it just kept hurting in the same spot. Lower right abdomen. I talked to my NP at my MFM appt and she said that RLP can linger and it's nothing to be too concerned about, it can also be caused by constipation or dehydration. But I would call if it's making you nervous

  • @harleyquinn0621 I was freaking out about every little ache and pain too - but I kind of adopted the mindset of "if moving around and drinking water makes it go away, it's fine".  If the pain sticks around and doesn't seem to get any better, I would call.
  • @harleyquinn0621 - I'll be totally honest, I am totally that 'call the Dr for any little thing' kind of person. So I got a handout when we did the confirmation appt - all about how high a fever to report, what meds are safe, etc. Anything that's not explicitly spelled out in there I call about.

I figure they've had more ridiculous questions than I could ever come up with but yeah - never feel bad/embarrassed/like you're causing them trouble for calling. I figure they wouldn't give me the nurses' line if they didn't want me to call, right?

@mrs_drc_rn - How did your procedure go yesterday? Been thinking about you (not in a creepy internet stalker way lol!) I hope you're resting and that it went super smooth!

So I'm only slightly freaking out - had a little bit of spotting this morning after some constipation-induced straining. Ugh. Like my sane mind knows that straining can cause spotting and it's not usually a big deal but the crazy part of my brain is like 'what if'

@harleyquinn0621 I’m glad you’re feeling better! I get RLP when I sneeze sometimes and it would freak me out; quick, stabbing pain in my lower abdomen. I always say never be afraid to call, that’s what the doctors are there for and they get paid enough!

@mrsbubbles-2 thank you so much for the thoughts, I put my update below!  :) Ugh, I hope it was just from straining. Have you tried daily colace?

How far along are you? 18+3

Why are you high risk? Prior preterm birth and myomectomy.

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? AS on Tuesday!

Rants/Raves/Questions? Just raving because we made it through this lymph node biopsy without any complications! It was a long day yesterday; they had me in nuclear medicine for a while in the morning to do the lymph node mapping and then surgery was in the afternoon. One lymph node was taken from my right armpit, and then there was one random lymph node just below my left scapula area where a small amount of the tracer went so he took that out too. I feel great other than some discomfort where they did the wide excision of the mole. They checked fetal heart tones throughout the day and I’ve checked a few times since I’ve been home! We’ll have the results in a few weeks!

GTKY: If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? This is hard. Can I pick a buffet? It’d have sushi, Alfredo, tacos, pizza, chips and ice cream. If I had to pick just one though, I’d go with @mrsbubbles-2 on the sushi!

I also want to send some love tits to everyone for their upcoming AS.  <3
  • @mrs_drc_rn - YAY! So happy it went well! I hope the results are all clear, keep us updated! <3

  • @mrs_drc_rn Good to hear biopsies went smoothly. I don't think I heard your full story, but I just want to let you know I understand where you are. My mother and my sister are both melanoma survivors, and both were cured with local excision (30+ years ago for my mother!). All my fingers crossed for clean biopsy results for you.

  • @mrs_drc_rn I'm with you on the RLP while sneezing. Ugh.
@redheadbride15 Keep us posted on your acupuncture adventures! Don't freak out if you don't have instantaneous results. I've had pain that disappeared like air going out of a balloon and other pain that diminished gradually.

You ladies keep my on my toes Googling high-risk conditions I hadn't heard of. This group reminds me that I'm not the only geriatric pregnant lady.

    How far along are you?
    18w0d

    Why are you high risk?
Factor V Leiden, past DVT, AMA, 3 MC

Any additional monitoring or testing this week? No

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
I revealed to my boss yesterday and she was awesome. I planned to do it two weeks earlier but our hospital had an unannounced survey and then I was away for a conference. She seemed so happy for me and then right away talked about my pending promotion, which was very reassuring. So now I can share the news which is excellent because loose blouses and scarfs won't work as camouflage much longer.

GTKY: If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I imagine that I'd get sick of eating any one thing forever, but.... I'll go with the eggplant parm hero from the pizza place around the corner.

  • @mrs_drc_rn I didn’t even know it was a possibility and they could test for that! I’ll have to let everyone know after the first one how it goes. *TW* I wonder if it wasn’t done for others who were in PTL because they could deliver vaginally, this LO would not survive a vaginal delivery, so I think that’s why they will be doing it so often *end TW*

Glad to hear your biopsy experience was good, hopefully quick results now!
  • i feel a little spoiled.. i get to see the baby twice a month for cerclage checks and hear the baby once a month at my OB via doppler, so that's three times a month i get confirmation she is doing well... and i still feel like i want more.... LOL impatiently waiting for my OB appointment next tuesday so i get to hear her on the doppler

I've gotten to hear a heartbeat every two weeks since our first appointment. I'm going to be crawling out of my skin because it's almost 4 weeks until my next appointment.
