  • How far along are you? 17 weeks

Why are you high risk? HELLP syndrome with DS. Emergency C section at 32 weeks

Any additional monitoring this week? Bloods to check liver function. Seems to have returned to normal.

    Rants/raves/questions?
How are you other ladies handling the stress of a high risk pregnancy. Feel like I'm just bottling it in right now and trying to stay positive.
  • @mommabear149 - I'm so happy your liver functions check has returned to normal! As for me, dealing with the high-risk pregnancy, it helps to be able to talk to my friends and family when I start to feel overwhelmed. I found that for me, if I try to bottle it up then all of a sudden I'm raging like a crazy person over everything. And the thing I'm mad about isn't really the thing I'm mad about, know what I mean? I would say that if you think it would help, maybe try talking to your SO / best friend / doctor about how you're feeling and see if that eases your stress at all. We're here to listen as well!

  • @mommabear149 I’m sorry you’re feeling stressed. When I get to that point, I make sure I talk to DH about how I’m feeling and let him know that I just need some time to myself to decompress. Even if it’s just aimlessly walking around Target alone (which I plan on doing today, actually). It’s easy to be overwhelmed by appointments and testing; just remember to take it one day at a time. Absolutely lean on people for support, and let your feelings out. Nobody can stay positive all the time and that’s ok.

@mommabear149 the stress is hard.. i go from being fine.. to crying due to anxiety. i focus on what is going good right now when i get overwhelmed... i've stopped googling everything, which has really helped me and i talk to DH. I finally admitted it's been hard for me to feel connected to this baby due to my multiple losses last year and just the constant feeling i have of waiting for something to go wrong....., and the guilt that has caused me, and just talking it through with him made me feel a lot better

i've also considered getting into therapy but have not pursued that yet

    Why are you high-risk?
thalassemia minor - low hemoglobin since first trimester.

Any additional monitoring or testing this week?
not this week. Seeing a new hematologist on Monday.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Rant - had to switch both my OB and Hematologist which are now in the city. Original doctors couldn’t answer my questions but never suggested I see a high risk doctor or a hematologist that sees pregnant patients. As soon as I switched the Doctor says “I think that’s a great idea that you are seeing someone who specializes in hematologist disorders and pregnancies”. They would’ve continued to see me even though they were not a good fit!

Rave- saw the PA at new OB and the office is on top of everything. I definitely feel more at ease now.

GTKY: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
spaghetti with red sauce. I cannot get enough if it!
