I’m on my third bag of Reese’s Pieces mini eggs and they’ve only been out for a couple weeks...
I've been getting the Reese's peanut butter cups with the Reese's Pieces in them. So good. Gimmicky, but good. I only let myself buy one package when I do the grocery shopping cause I'd absolutely eat like 4 a day. I crave peanut butter so much!

Eta: gif and comment that I'm definitely buying the Reese's Puffs cereal next time I'm at the store.
  • I have been eating.. too much. clearly.  i went from so sick and surviving on carbs to full blown appetite with a carb mentality.  Now I am trying to get some nutrients back and eat a bit more healthy since I feel fine.

but last night I had mac and cheese for dinner while my kids ate chicken and veggies... because I needed one more junk meal before planning to have healthier food today :)
  • @ashh2018 yes watching cooking shows was torture last night! But I have so many good recipe ideas now

@nlc8424 - I had never heard of chicken riggies until I visited my in-laws in central NY! I laughed at the name and immediately ordered them, which was a great decision.
  • DH brought home pineapple pizza the other night.. and it was delicious. Normally, I'm one of those type that say that pineapple doesn't belong on pizza but it really hit the spot. I've also started drinking soda again.. and I don't know whether to laugh or cry. It was my first time to drink soda in about three years. I used to be strictly a Mt. Dew girl. I hated the taste of Coke.. but as I was waiting to see the urologist the other day, I started getting a bad headache and had no Tylenol on me, so I went to the vending machine and got the coke. Took it away long enough to have a conversation with the doctor. Now, I'm wanting Coke all of the time. ugh.

  • @nlc8424 that looks yummy!!
  • Today I had kalamata olives and pineapple. I wanted both and couldn't decide which to eat first. Not too bad! Salty and sour...
  • @nlc8424 that looks delicious!!
  • Thanks @ashh2018 and @klj0228! I'm so glad that my energy has returned and I'm enjoying cooking again. My H definitely enjoyed and appreciated dinner last night too, I actually got a "this is really good" from him when his typical response is ok/good.

  • Can I get some cooking/food advice? I used to love to cook, and would cook almost all our meals. Now that my fatigue is getting better, I need to start doing that again (sadly, I don’t think baby and I can continue to eat pasta/grilled cheese for dinner for the rest of this pregnancy). I need to figure out how to get more protein!! But:

    1. Lately, raw chicken makes me sick to look at/touch, which makes cooking tough. Anyone have recipes and suggestions for simple, healthy dinners with pork or another lean protein source?

    2. I need a way to get protein in my lunch. Tossing grilled chicken in my salad isn’t working because A. See above and B. If I splurge on the pre-cooked chicken strips, the texture grosses me out.

So far I’m stuck at like 40g of protein and that’s when I try really hard! Sorry for the long post but hopefully this helps some other people trying to get their nutrients! Ok, going to microwave a soft pretzel, brb.
  • @ashh2018 center cut pork chops are pretty lean, so is pork tenderloin. Texture wise it's pretty close to chicken though so I'm not sure if that will work or not. Do you like fish at all? Beans? Eggs? Those are all good sources of protein. I also like ground turkey, naturally leaner than beef.

What if you bought frozen chicken breasts and put them right into the crock pot? I like adding salsa to them (green or red), or just plain with broth and seasoning. After cooking I shred it and use for a variety of items.
  • Thank you @nlc8424! I’m planning pork chops this week and maybe I’ll do a tenderloin next Sunday. FIL got me a sous vide that I haven’t used yet so I’m going to do the pork chops that way!

I eat eggs for breakfast and throw beans in my salad. I unfortunately don’t love fish except for canned tuna and salmon (which I think is ok in moderation?) and mahi mahi or halibut, which are not budget friendly for weekly meals!

I didn’t know I could cook ch. breasts from frozen in the crock pot! I’ll absolutely try that today. I’m always picky about my chicken and end up trimming it a ton, but I think that what I don’t see won’t bother me.
  • @ashh2018 as far as I'm aware salmon is totally a ok and tuna - the chunk light stuff, is good to go, like you said in moderation. With tuna it's the really big fancy ones that having more mercury cause they've had longer to grow and eat up other dishes with mercury. The little tuna usually haven't lived long enough to gather up too much mercury. I eat tuna once or twice a week. Salmon whenever I think if it and I also really like sardines.
Have you looked into non meat sources for protien like peanut/nut butters?
  • @stothi I feel like everything I do just adds such small amounts of protein. For snacks during the day I’ll have almonds, or almond butter on a rice cake. If I have a ton of energy in the morning I’ll have a smoothie and sometimes I’ll put peanut butter or oatmeal in it. I’ve been using MFP to track protein and maybe the calculations are wrong?
  • @ashh2018 If there's a green check next to the item that means the nutrition info has been verified in MFP, otherwise it could be off. What about cheese or greek yogurt?
  • @ashh2018 You could also add in some high protein Greek yogurt and nuts for a snack. Or a protein bar with minimal ingredients (i.e. RX Bar).

  • What is this MFP you speak of?
  • @stothi Myfitnesspal, it's an app to track food intake and exercise.

Ah! Yeah. My husband got me a Fitbit once. That lasted like a week before it wound up on a shelf somewhere. I've never found the will power to track anything for very long. Aside from breastfeeding/pumping info. Tracked that like a fiend.

Thanks all! I’m gonna make my grocery list for the week and make some switches and hopefully I can get cookin’! Gonna swap Greek yogurt for regular and add some canned salmon to my weekday lunches.

ETA @nlc8424 cheese consumption is not a problem. The only way I hit my protein goal last week was adding a slice of pizza as a snack lol. Hmm, but you probably mean healthy cheese consumption...lol
  • I like quinoa for added protein. The dietitians where I work shared this recipe with me and it's amazing (helps that I've been craving mangos!): https://www.primaverakitchen.com/mango-quinoa-salad-recipe/
  • @ashh2018 can you pick up some rotisserie chicken so that you don't have to cook it but it doesn't have that (gross) texture of precooked chicken?

    also - eggs?

frozen burger (beef, chicken. turkey) patties can be crumbled onto a salad or into a tortilla (or bun - clearly!)
  • @marym94 rotisserie chicken is a great idea!

Ive been actually cooking this week and I’m excited ive had the energy! Pork chops last night - sous vide = zero effort, seared in a pan to finish.

I just got called “prissy” by someone in my office bc I declined to eat fried chicken that’s been sitting at room temperature in the kitchen all day. *biggest eyeroll ever*
  • @ashh2018 I won't eat food that's been sitting out too long even when I'm not pregnant. My ex- in laws handled food in a way that I thought was crazy unsanitary. I hated eating at their house. One time they took the leftover hotdogs from grilling and just set them straight on the kitchen table cause they needed the dish they were in for something else. They left them there overnight and they ate the room temp hot dogs off the table the next day!!!!!! Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
  • @ashh2018 I’ve never had canned salmon but salmon is super healthy during pregnancy! Also someone else mentioned quinoa... I throw it in salads for extra protein. Sometimes I “toast” it in a pan with a little olive oil first too.

DH and I used to make this salad all the time and haven’t for a while, but it’s super delicious (IMO) for anyone who wants to try it: mixed greens, sliced green apples, cucumbers, avocado, toasted quinoa (see above) and I add tortilla strips and shredded cheddar to mine. I also only like Caesar dressing so I use a vegan one so I don’t have to worry about the raw egg. Other than the quinoa it takes like 5 min to put together and is so fresh!
  • @yosemite2018 I love quinoa, sounds yummy! I’m allergic to avocado but I work around it!

@stothi overnight?! gross. Like, 99% chance the office chicken was fine. 100% chance it’s none of anyone business if I eat it or not! Also, now that I hear “office chicken” I’m reinforced in my decision.
  • @jhjocelyn lick? Like with their tongues? No, no, nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
  • @stothi oh yesssss. Any member of the family it was an instinctive response when pouring anything out of a bottle. The kids (dh + siblings) honestly didn’t know it was weird/gross.
