Re: Weekend Randoms 2/16-2/18

  • @JelloBean1 My husband and I both did our undergrad at a University near there and our hearts ache over this. We were having a hard time with it because while all our friends and family in Florida were reacting regardless of where they were located (Central Fl, South Fl, etc), no one here in Texas brought it up.

We both came home from our jobs that day so confused that it wasn’t a conversation and even the day after it never came up. I understand sad things happen everyday, but it just felt like as a nation we have become complacent about some things. Our thoughts are with you and the community.

  • Within minutes of getting to my gender reveal, wearing a tight dress, showing off the bump, my MOM goes “look at that belly! You’ve got one of those ‘I’m not sure if she’s fat or pregnant’ stage bellies”

@acunamatada Ugh... I recommend you nicely say something to your mom about how her comment made you feel.
My mom and I had a similar chat yesterday, after she commented that ‘most women don’t even show until 6 months with their first’ and she likes to brag about how skinny she was  (even though it is bc she had an eating disorder...). She now knows her comment was upsetting and will be more mindful.
@kissableviv I found a chart yest that showed at 20 weeks how much weight the placenta + ute + baby + fluids + fat stores are, and it is 8.8 lbs! So, definitely more than a banana!
  • @rangey1234 I completely agree girl.

@lindsayleigh1989 I'm sure not all have the same issues of abuse and neglect, but I still don't support any circuses that use animals on principle. Elephants and tigers and lions shouldn't be kept in cages and weren't put on this earth for the purpose of entertaining us, in my opinion. There are so many amazing ways we can entertain ourselves with an all human circus. But i definitely wouldn't be so upset about people supporting this particular circus if it weren't for the documented abuse of these animals.
  • @natalie_1989 good luck on your anatomy scan!

@wildtot I am also one who doesn't stress on the food, although if I know its something he likes and he's just being an a-hole we'll sit there til he's done. I keep reminding myself that toddlers are weird and sometimes they just don't eat a lot of food, and then there are days like yesterday where my kid ate 1/2 a pound of steak and most of the green beans I made for the entire family, lol. At least he ate a banana, like you said!

  • @pretzellover oh I made several comments, none were particularly nice lol but I have a very sarcastic relationship with her. I think she realized she shouldn’t have said it after it came out of her mouth, she immediately started back tracking and explaining herself. No apology but that’s not really her anyways
  • @lindsayleigh1989 I think it works the same for farmers too! The farmer that we get a lot of our beef from doesn’t like to help with slaughter because he’s taken care of them for their whole lives. Not everyone is cruel.
  • I definitely agree @hillbillywife, there are more humane ways of raising and slaughtering animals than others, and while I feel that factory farming and the way the majority of our meat supply lives and is slaughtered is beyond cruel, I recognize there are farmers that treat their animals humanely and choose not to kill them in the most painful way. But to me, killing an animal for consumption and nutrition is much different than caging an animal and forcing it into a life of fear and loneliness just for entertainment purposes.

Sorry, I am just really passionate about this subject, maybe I should make it my next UO
  • @pretzellover good for you for standing up to your mom! Hope it helps!

So DS was pointing at the pantry as he fought not eating his food. Because the panty has all the good snacks lol

i think its the new booster seat because he started putting up a fight this morning but finally gave into eating his breakfast.
  • @wildtot my son hates eating in his booster seat sometimes. He'll be hungry but wants out of his seat. When that happens I put his food on the coffee table and let him stand and eat it, and he is usually much happier and will eat. I'm all about whatever makes life easier lol.
  • @zande2016 I totally understand your viewpoint. And I see the difference between food animals and enjoyment animals. I wasn’t trying to make you feel like you weren’t being heard. It’s a shame that that circus is allowed to keep performing with sick animals. That hurts my heart.
  • you didn't make me feel that way at all @hillbillywife

I do the same lol, if he won’t eat it I put it out and let him graze.. I’m all about the path of least resistance, within reason lol
  • @acunamatada @zande2016 toddlers are weird lol he usually asks to sit on a stool if I’m eating so i figured he’d like be with us to eat.
  • paytonpedro @swizz09 I talked some sense into him, thank goodness! We will no longer be having an office/nursery - it will be strictly the nursery. So yay to having the kid in one room for many years, a crib and dresser with changing table!
