Millie would have definitely been on my short list if this were a girl. I definitely like more old fashioned names for girls. Boys I like a more wide variety. I love Benjamin but DH was a hard no. And DH loves Ace (for real) and I’m a very hard no, so I think we kind of meet in the middle on boy names and get things like Blake and Spencer.
@amac12999 Ace is a cool nickname? But I agree with you that it's not really a name. I always picture names on a resume and I don't think Ace would get a call back
Talk about irony. My husband and I were talking about Spencer if it's a boy as well. I'm not 100% sold on Thomas (my dad's name) as the first, because it feels creepy on some level, like I'm trying to replace him. But Spencer Thomas? Sounds adorable. :P
So today I love Raelynn and Cora. I am seriously all over the place with names and don't even know what I'm having yet. If it's a boy I'm definitely still leaning towards Ezra because it sounds really good with my other boy's names.
@neeraja_k - I love how Spencer Thomas sounds! Great name!
Thomas is our middle name for sure after my brother so it would be Spencer Thomas too! I love it.
DS keeps insisting he likes Blake Thomas though, which is making me laugh. I can’t decide if he actually knows what he’s saying or if he’s just talking nonsense
Do you think that if DS1 has DH's Dad's name as his middle name than DS2 should probably have my Dad's name as his middle name? The difference is DH's dad has passed and mine is alive still. We were discussing this last night.
Originally we always thought we'd use Hugo (my Grandpa's name) but now I'm second guessing.
@livinthesunnylife I definitely don't think it has to be tit for tat like that but if you both like your dad's name and he would be honored by you using it, I think that would be nice. But I don't think you should feel compelled to if you don't both love it or if there's another name you would rather use.

FET 10/7/20: BFP on 10/12/20!!! (EDD 6/25/21); First beta 10/16/20 (9dpt): 148; Second beta 10/19/20 (12dpt): 621; Third beta 10/26/20 (19dpt): 4732; Fourth (and final!) beta 11/2/20 (26 dpt): 22,000+
@livinthesunnylife I think if you like it, go for it. We did the same with L. He is Lachlan Richard, as H's family has several different generations of Dale Richards or Richard Dales. So if he doesn't like his Gaelic first name, he can use his more American-type middle name.
You never know what they might like later. Maybe he will hate his first name as an adult and go strictly by his middle name.

I looooove the name Cora. I have been watching ANTM and one of the girls' names is Coura, and I sat there for the entire episode last week thinking how I need to add that name (probably spelled the first way) to my list of girl names I also love Ezra!
I'm thinking because DS has a short first name (Hugo) and long middle name, I kind of want to do the same with this one.

@coffeecocktailsandcake DD is Hazel and people always rave over her name. I was really worried people would think it was too old fashioned but it’s been very well received where we live!
^ I love Sage, but I’m not having a girl and if I were DH wouldn’t have gone for it. But you should try to convince your DH. It’s such a great name. I like all of your other choices too right now.
We are pretty set on using DH’s mom’s name for the MN if it’s a girl. She passes away in 2004 and it means a lot to him, so I’m on board. But the name is LouAnn and I feel like that is a hard one to pair with a first name. I love the name Lucy, but is Lucy LouAnn to many ‘L’s going on?!
Love love love hazel! If I have 3 girls to name that would be one of them
i think for us, if you do family middles it’s nice to keep it even between the sides BUT I dint think that necessarily means it has to be the exact same ‘person.’
For us, I wanted to use my mom and dad to honor in middle names. They are amazing and I’m close with them, and I prefer honoring them over my grandparents. My ils suck so we were NOT honoring them. It was less to do with what name we liked (though dh considered his gpa and ruled against it bc it was a mouthful -arleigh).
So so what we did was : ds1 middle is dh first name, ds2 middle is my dads first, ds3 middle is dh middle (he also shares his initials), and dd will have my moms first as her middle. If she was another boy, my moms name can be used for boys too (Lynn) so we’d use it for either.
If we’d had a secind girl we’d have used dh grandmas middle (Anne).
Thanks guys! So, on the topic of middle names has anyone considered giving their daughter their own middle name? My husband's middle name was passed down to our son, but it was a family middle name. My family has never done anything like that but I would like to. I just don't like anyone or anyone's middle name enough to honor them or pass it on. I guess like isn't the right word, but I don't feel moved to honor my families women for certain reasons. Bit what about my own? Weird?
@coffeecocktailsandcake If we have a girl, we plan to use my middle name for her. So definitely not weird! DS does not share any part of DH's name (other than last).
My mom gave me her middle name. I don't think it's weird. Though because it's so common, I won't be passing it on if we have a daughter.

My mom and I both have Marie, and I would pass it on, but if I have a daughter she'll be Mary-Jean, and I just can't see using both Mary and Marie. Actually, I wouldn't really mind, but I'm sure people would think it odd that I used two variations of the same name.

My daughter and I share a middle name. My aunt and I had it first since we were born on the same day. DD was due on our birthday, so I kinda wanted to keep that tradition.
If babe is a girl, her name will be Lillian Mae, after both of our grandmothers. For a boy, we haven't decided first name, but MN will be John, after both of our grandfathers. First name for a boy has been impossible!
My birth mom and I also share the same middle name, Marie. DH really wants us to use it for our second DD as a MN. I don't think it's weird, but I'm also unsure about passing it on.
@lolog531 DH's mom is Lucy and my great grandmother was Louella. I wanted to do Louella Lucille and call her wither Lou or Lucy, but I got vetoed. I still love it thought, so no I don't think its too many L's. Lucy Lou would be a cute name when she is little!!
His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!
