I love Hugo too!!! It's my grandfather's name and would love to incorporate it for this LO if it's a boy. Is it weird that he's still alive and we'd be using it, though?
@calimom2524 I don't think it's weird to use an alive family member's name. I think it's....is it jewish that don't believe in that? But that doesn't make it wrong for anyone else.
Sooooo weird that we both have Hugos in our family.
@calimom2524@livinthesunnylife Yeah it's Jewish people who believe it's bad luck to name a baby after someone who is still alive. My husband is half Jewish and it kind of made me sad when I learned that during my first pregnancy because I always liked the idea of naming a baby girl Lucie after my grandma Lucille, but she's still alive and kickin' (which I'm very glad about of course lol)

@elsieisamoocow ooooh, I like Lucille! I love those classic names that are back. Now that we have a sex I have names on the brain big time. Hugo is probably a middle for us so I need a first.
I had so many good names for girls but we just found out it’s a boy. We are def going with Robert for the middle name after my grandfather and my husband’s father. So far for a first name Charles is the front runner. It’s my great grandfathers name, but is it too boring? I also kind of like Xavier but I don’t think I can get DH to go for that.
@princesslockness I think I'd only think of Forrest Gump if that were the case, but I almost like Forest... I'll Greyson/Grayson I do like too. Have to check the popularity on that one though.

@xirk Charles isn’t too boring. Charlie is one of my fav boy nicknames but we can’t use it because Charles is my FILs name and that’s too close. I’m not about that life.
August '18 March Siggy Challenge - You had ONE JOB
My mom ruined Evelyn for me, so now I'm thinking Mila Sofia, or DH is really pushing Adelia. However in French (we live in Canada and the kids will be going to school in French) it would be pronounced Adele-ia, whereas I think Anglophones would pronounce it A-delia. Not sure if the two pronounciations would bother me, though I like both. What do you guys think of that name?
Also, Mila was the name we picked for DS1 if he had been a girl (though my family all later told me they didn't like it), and Sofia was the name we picked for DS2 if he had been a girl, so I like that that name has that little meaning behind it, and that Mila works in Eastern Europe too (my background).
@alinafed I totally read the name as Adele-ia (I live in the US) but both pronunciations are pretty!

Eleanor has entered the running for a girl name, thanks to 'The Good Place'.
So it's between Eleanor and Eliana if it's a girl, either way her nickname will be Ellie (which is perfect, because of of my favorite badass women in film is Dr. Ellie Satler from 'Jurassic Park').

We are still tossing around names, and I refuse to commit to anything. Now that we aren't finding out the sex until the anatomy scan (NIPT is too much $$$ even though I am AMA) we have plenty more time for me to add more options, because I love options! We will stick with family names for the most part, only exception we have so far is Katherine, but the nn for it is close to my grandmother's name, Kittye. Our pool of boys names is not so great. Think Ernest, Rembert, Earl, Ira. Not that those names aren't lovely, but just NMS.
Top girl names so far: Katherine Irene "Kit" for nn Iris Irene
Only boy name I can think of: Patrick Bradley
His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!
Edwin Dwight for a boy..family names I want something old school kinda vintage for girl...middle name jean. Like Emma jean only not Emma lol Don't know what we're having
Edwin Dwight for a boy..family names I want something old school kinda vintage for girl...middle name jean. Like Emma jean only not Emma lol Don't know what we're having
I have an Edwin Also a family name for us. Do you like the double “dw” sound in the first and middle name?
@riverbed I kind of love Rembert and Patrick is one of my favorite boy names.
@riverbed My top girl's name is Katherine and call her Kit.
H and I are in agreement for boys names. It will likely be Duke and then I would like the middle name to be H's only brother.
We cannot get on the same page for girl's names. I like classic names (Katherine, Melissa, Emily) but H wants something more unique. I suggested Rhiannon the other day (I'm a big Fleetwood Mac fan) and he said 'that's not awful' so maybe we are getting somewhere. We will know the sex in a couple of weeks and then at least we will know if this will be a fight or not.

Love the name Lux from the virgin suicides but we like longer names with nick names so adding my middle name to make it Luxleigh. I don’t care how many eye rolls I get for the made up name, gotta start somewhere! And I have a silhouette so I can make her all the things with her name on it LOL
@jsnakehole Jurassic Park for lyfe. (I dressed up like Dr. Ellie Satler for movie day at school!) Eleanor is on our short list too - Spelling it the english way (Elinor - like from Sense and Sensibility) is also pretty I think. We're still kicking around a lot of ideas. We may break down and find out the sex just so we don't have to stress about two names
I'd love to name our kid with a nod to something science-y. We have a few in the running, but nothing for sure yet.
So my mom hates all of my name choices for girls. She said it sounds like I go to a nursing home and ask for the names of people on their last limb and those are the names I choose.
Eliana is still a top choice, though. DH likes it.

@amac12999 I haven't told my students yet, but one of my kids asked me if I thought the name 'Lightbulb' is a good name for a kid. Maybe this kid and your son are preparing to be celebrities?
Blake is nice. Have you seen Key and Peele's 'Substitute Teacher' sketch? They make fun of the name Blake (and Aaron, my top boy choice). Definitely good for a laugh.
Me: 28 DH: 29 Married: 6/2016 TTC #1: 12/2016 Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!
@jsnakehole That's why we don't ask anyone's opinions. Especially parents- they are from a different generation and have weird opinions about names. Once the kid is born they will love whatever name you give them.
@jsnakehole we love that name, it's on our short list. I really like Edith, too. But apparently, that stands for E-xit D-rills I-n T-he H-ome, according to my firefighter husband...and every other firefighter I asked...
@Firemanswife11 Edie (short for edith) is currently our #1 pick for a girl! My nonforefighter husband actually loves it lol. We also really like Millie for a girl. We are much more lost when it comes to boy names but yesterday Everett and Ian were our favorites
@jsnakehole You're mom's comment made me laugh because my stepmom said the same thing to my sister when she was pregnant. Her top name was Mildred because she loved Millie. But I also get how frustrating that is. You love the names you love.
We mentioned DH's top boy name to my parents, and both my mom and stepmom made some insensitive comments about it. I'm not in love with the name, but it really made me think that I might not tell them when we finally decide.
I love a lot of old fashioned names for girls but DH always complains that they're "grandma names" *eyeroll*
