Re: UO Thursday 2/1
I wanna see the Browns win. Just once in my lifetime. Haha.
Dh is a Steelers fan so he haaaates the pats. I’m secretly happy for New England to win anything over Pittsburgh lol. Early in our relationship we agreed that our family would be Steelers fans, and uconn fans. I haaaaaate Pitt (which fil adores) and I’m more into b-ball anyhow. So I keep mum on the pats and get them huskies gear.

@pghctwife and @elsieisamoocow no soccer or football for us, either. We aren’t sports people, and I’d rather just avoid the whole scene.
My DHs Family is super huge into hockey, my FIL played professionally and coached college for a while. They really want to get DS into it and that’s another hard no for me. We’ve actually gotten comments from others about his hockey legacy and how can we deny it and blah blah blah. Sorry. Pass. Not sorry.

Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!
And I cant lie, as disinterested as I am in pro football, the culture surrounding high school football here is so nostalgic for me, I have a lot of mixed feelings about it. I don’t want it to go away, I just want them to make it safer.... and not include my kid. He can be in the marching band or something!
Sports are really big in my town, and the high school is pretty big so there are tons and tons of options for kids. It’s pretty nice because if they’re not going to make the soccer team or whatever… There are lots of options to take all comers. There’s a crew team we have girls ice hockey we have badminton team we have a rugby team… Lots and lots of options! It’s nice because then kids can find a sport that suits them even if they are the most athletic etc.

Twin B lost 11/22/2017, Twin A doing well.
Tennis though? I love to play and especially love to watch. If I ever could get to see Serena play at the US open I will be one happy woman. Bucket list!
All that being said, I was in marching band and had a blast. Although, at my school, our football team was so lousy, they pretty much just provided the band a venue.
*Edited to finish the last sentence that got cut off.
Unfortunately younger than college its pretty hard to guarantee proper coaching and the avoidance of concussions and micro concussions. Using your head as a weapon is integral to the game now.
We we don’t live in football land so it shouldn’t be a big deal. I know very few kids my sons age playing yet.

Also on team No Football but DH is really into sports and always talks about how he can’t wait to coach DS’s Little League team so I do imagine we will encourage him to play whatever (other) sport he wants!

even here in the northeast, ppl have been commenting on my youngest wrt football since he was born. He has huge hands - first thing I noticed when he was born. At 2 months old his pediatrician called him ‘a very muscular baby.’ He has visible abs at 2. He’s sturdy and solid - not huge but big. He’s agile and has good coordination, and he has 2 big brothers and is BY FAR the toughest of them.
I have no doubt he’ll be an athlete, and frankly he’d probably grow up to be good at football. Hopefully we’ll find another sport that will suit him just as well because he’s smart too and I want to protect his brain.
His brothers don’t really scream football so hopefully he’ll be into whatever they do.

I would much rather he do lacrosse or baseball or soccer, but we will just have to cross that bridge when we get there!
DH and not are not artsy or musically inclined, so I’ll be shocked if he goes down that path because no idea where the talent would come from! Lol
DS: 5.28.15
DS#2: EDD 8.31.18
I’d prefer no football and DH and I are both long and lanky so I don’t think we’ll have football players but you never know. We are also in Texas where football is huge.
ETA: @lalala2004 my mind was seriously blown when I heard about kids eating tide pods. WTF
I am a moderately firm no on football and cheerleading. Both for the culture and risks.
DH has a rule that our kids need to do some kind of physical sport/activity every season. I agree. Right now DD is in dance, and loves it. I'm artsy and super unathletic. I'll be happy if my kids can run in a straight line.
We are pushing for baseball all the way. Till they can play tball they will do swim. Knowing how to swim is more important to me at this point. The rest will follow. Both DH and I are average height. DH was so small in high school that I doubt i have to worry about the boys being cut out for football
Hockeys a no too - and it’s pretty popular here. And I’ll admit that the primary reason isn’t safety (though yes) rather the cost and the 5am ice time. Yeahhhh no.

My oldest wanted pink hair a couple years ago. So, we did hot pink ombré with my beautician. Not my style but she was expressing herself. And I’m all about that. She’s very much into fashion. Nothing like me.
Of course kids need boundaries. I won’t be signing any waivers for tattoos or piercings.
DH just got him a legit kid set of golf clubs because he plays and DS is interested. I played softball growing up and DH did tennis and ran.
That being said, DH & his friends rock climb, and we have a homemade climbing wall in the backyard. DS loves it and is begging to go “real” climbing with DH & the guys this summer. I have a feeling DS will be more interested in pursuits like climbing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, etc, and those come with their own risks.
At least right now I'm thinking DS will want to do swimming, diving or rock climbing but who knows?
