Re: Weekly Randoms 1/29

  • I'm not sure I'll do a maternity shoot. I'm going to be feeling big and awkward, so I'm not sure how into that I'll be. I do plan on doing newborn photos though - a good friend of mine is an amateur photographer and does pretty good newborn stuff so I'm sure she'd be happy to do it for a way discounted price.

  • oh yeah, maternity photos.  More power to the Mamas that feel sexy pregnant and take pictures draped in some tiny piece of cloth.  All I can think is that if a regular bra isn't involved it isn't happening while I'm pregnant.
I didn't do them last time.
This time I think we have to do family photos at some point while I'm pregnant because I want DS to have pictures, but maybe I'll do them in May or so when I don't feel like a whale yet?  lol
  • Also not getting maternity pics done. Didn't have them last time, wouldn't have wanted to hang pics of my ginormous self anywhere in the house! But maybe we will get a family shoot done while I am pregnant!

Snowing here today! All the schools in surrounding towns had delays or closures but we did not. BS. The drive was absolutely brutal!! I get worried about the inexperienced teens driving in these conditions!

  • Has anyone gotten a massage while pregnant? How true are the statements that they can cause a miscarriage???? I scheduled one and they told me they couldn’t do it until after 14 weeks. I needed it so bad too!!!
  • My photographer friend talked me into doing maternity photos with DS2 and I absolutely hated all of them. I don't know why I even agreed, I felt and looked like a house.

DS2 with the flu (hey, that rhymes) was up ALL NIGHT off and on like he's a newborn again and not only did it drive me insane but it gave me insight into what it's like to be up every half hour again. Yikes. I wanted to call in to work today but then remembered I'm the only one in the office today so I couldn't. All of the coffee for me today.

This was brought up a while ago..I can't remember where. But no, you are not supposed to get a massage until at least the end of the first trimester.

    ETA: The thread was called:

massages and pregnancy off limits? what else? **update**

If you search for that you'll find it.

ETA again I can just post the link https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12721997/massages-and-pregnancy-off-limits-what-else-update

  • @69mil I don't know if it "can" cause a M/C but no one will do them in the first tri. I got into a car accident in the first trimester and I couldn't even get one done until 13 weeks I think. Accident was not my fault and I hurt like hell.
  • @ecwk thanks! I did a search in discussions but didn’t find it. I just have such a hard time finding the logic in that. It doesn’t help that a search on google turns up articles stating it’s a myth, and others saying it’s really a risk.
  • @dirtanddiamonds it's all fun and games until they hit puberty, amirite?

We won't find out about #3 for another few weeks, but I'm betting it's another girl.
  • @69mil it’s a liability issue more then anything.

  • @doctormom33I know it's hard but don't compare yourself! Your body is doing what it needs to do to make a healthy baby. The most important thing is that you and baby are well taken care of and it sounds like you're doing just that.

I think it is just 100% a liability thing, if you have a massage during first tri and then happen to have a miscarriage, you could sue the massage place (believe me, people sue over way more tenuous things), so it is easier for them to just say no until you are out of first tri and the miscarriage likelihood plummets.

Speaking of photos, I am getting birth photography done this time around, since #3 is my last baby and giving birth is the most bad-ass thing I've ever done and I want it on record at least once.

I love professional photos though - I have done maternity ones, newborn ones, baptism ones, 1 year ones, and then yearly family ones for all the kids.

My friends that have had a photographer during the birth all love their pictures! I’m toying with the idea since this will be our last baby!
  • @doctormom33 Everyone has their own struggles.  I have a friend from my old BMB that is pregnant and has been hospitalized to get IVs several times because she's so dehydrated and can't keep any food or fluid down.  She's WAY skinnier than me.  But I wouldn't wish for all that.

Enjoy the journey, it will come off when it's time.

DS’s Birthday is in May, so I’m sure we’ll do some family pictures. We didn’t do any maternity pictures when I was pregnant with him, though.

  • @calimom2524 so sorry DS was up all night, poor guy.  It is a miserable thing for everyone when sickness is ripping through a household. Hope he's feeling better today and has a more restful night tonight.

I also have been thinking about the tough newborn months when nobody seems to get much sleep. I'm drained just thinking about it.

Thank you! It's wild because he actually just started STTN last summer at 2.5 so it hasn't even been that long since I've been doing the night time wake ups but man I sure am used to STTN now haha.

  • Good to see we woke up the crazies today.  Is there a full moon or something?
  • @calimom2524 wait....whaaaa?  He didn't STTN until 2.5???  Bless your exhausted soul.  I sleep trained this guy at 10-11M.
Haha I've accepted that I breed sleep haters. Both of my boys didn't STTN until after 2. DS1 finally started after DS2 was born so I basically didn't STTN from 2012-2017. DS2 nursed until 2.5 and wanted to comfort nurse all night still last summer and it didn't help that when we up and left our house in Texas to stay with my parents we shared a bed all 3 of us for like 6 months. Now that everyone is established in their own room and own bed it's much better for everyone.

  • @calimom2524 - I'm so sorry, poor DS! I hope he feels better soon!

@livinthesunnylife - right?!? Da fuq is happening? It's just a matter of time before Bree shows up, and by matter of time I mean however long it takes Lee to log out of the bump and log back in...

  • I already told my husband it is a hard pass on maternity pictures. I'll do a weekly bump picture starting after my next check up and that is it. But he's going to do our newborn pictures, and probably baby and doggy pictures.

My birthday is in 2 weeks, and even though DH is away for drill on the day of, he's planned something for next Thursday and the following Tuesday. I think one is to see 'Beautiful' on Broadway- I had a feeling it was theater tickets and when I asked my mom if it was 'Book of Mormon' she said not quite. I love Carole King, and he knows I've been dying to see that show. He loves surprising me and I hate waiting for surprises, so he's loving this.

  • @jsnakehole ooooooh that sounds amazing!  Happy early Birthday!  Hamilton is in town here and I'm entering the daily lottery hoping for $10 seats
  • I feel like a total Millennial mom failure. I have no concept of social media announcements, and it didn't even occur to me to hire a photographer to do baby pictures. I have a couple of photog friends, so hopefully I can get one of them to take pictures for me. Not sure if they do infants, though.
I'm not a millenial, so perhaps I'm not a failure in this category, but I did not do cutesy announcements mostly 'cause I'm not the cutesy type. lol. (FWIW I'm more a sarcastic type.) Anyhow, I announced it on FB at around 20 weeks last time, more just to share the good news. But nothing like a pic of two adult-sized feet next to a pair of baby shoes or anything like that. My nanny, however...she is CRAZY over this stuff. She took some pics of my son with a chalkboard and cutesy sayings on it, lol. They are ridiculously cute I must say (mostly because my son is in them) but my friends would snort if I were to post them online.

To each their own, though. Do you!

  • @doctormom33 and yes, I feel ya on the boobs that's how I knew I was pregnant last time.  I think I was a 38H by the time he got outta there.  And they only went back to a 36G while BFing....  Someday I would love for them to go back to normal so I can run again.  Someday.
  • I'm hogging the thread today. I know some of you were looking for Jessica Simpson maternity jeans and there's a pair of size L jeggings on ThredUp for $17.99. I'd order them but I think I'm an XL. Here's the link if anyone wants to grab them!

Nice! Love these jeans! I wore them throughout pregnancy and for many months after until I shed the weight. They are now back on my all the time! I think they run big though, mine are size medium but I am not very small, particularly on my bottom half!

Also, my son will be 2 in March and still does not STTN although in last last week or so we have kept him in the crib alllll night as opposed to having him in bed with us and although he wakes maybe 2 or 3 times, he goes back down easily and it's so amazing to not have him in bed with me!

I'm definitely more sarcastic, and less cutesy. I really want to make a point of taking more pictures now that I'm having a kid, though. I'm really terrible at remembering to do that, so I habe a ton of trips and things that are just not documented, and I regret it years later. I want to make sure my kid has childhood photos to look at when they're older.

I struggle a lot with body image issues, so I never like pictures of myself, but if I see them 10 years later I think I looked good. I'll try to have some maternity pictures, because even though I'll hate them, I'll want to see them many years from now.

  • Aw thanks @ecwk - she got me all fired up and I had to edit about 3 times to take all the f-bombs out. I'm kinda wondering if knottienumbers is Lee / Bree too. It would be just like her to start a thread that stirs things up just to be able to white knight herself again.
