I feel like a total Millennial mom failure. I have no concept of social media announcements, and it didn't even occur to me to hire a photographer to do baby pictures. I have a couple of photog friends, so hopefully I can get one of them to take pictures for me. Not sure if they do infants, though.
We used JCPenney for DS. No shame in that. Are they the best pictures ever? No. But they're good enough. I just can't spend $1,000 on pictures when I could spend $120 on good enough. No judgement on anyone who does, though! We spent more on our wedding pictures. That was just our biggest expense in the wedding, so we felt it was worth it. But knowing all the hospital bills headed our way? Just couldn't do it.
I was able to message our derby photographer, and he's going to do shots for me. Thanks, guys. Crisis averted. I am really glad I have you guys to point out all these things I never think about!
Edit to avoid double post: @calimom2524 Is Ophelia too on the nose? If it's another male you could use Laertes.
Me:32 DH:45 DSD: 20 DSS: 18 Team green baby due: Aug 6th, 2018
^^^ We didn’t do them with DS and the main reason I want to do them with this baby is to get a good picture of both my boys. Plus my friend who I’ve made through DS’s school is a photographer so she’s going to come to our house to do them.
Those are all cute! I'm going to let him choose so who knows but I like being armed with suggestions. We kept asking him what we should name DS2 when I was pregnant with him and he wanted to name him "5 more minutes" so I'd rather have suggestions lol. I suppose I should add it's another male, female guinea pigs are in heat every 16 days and I am not about to have one million guinea pig babies.

My first two don’t have professional pics. My third got it. And this one. It’s just what is important to me. Everyone has their priorities. Lol. Keep in mind. I’m like I don’t need a crib for another year or two. We cosleep. To each their own.
I did newborn, 6M and 1 year photos of DS. My goal is to do the same thing with the next one. We were both the 2nd kid, I don't want the second kid to feel like any less.

Same. And we did a group cake smash with seven other babies from our prenatal group, it was the cutest thing ever!
I’m cross posting this from weekend randoms because apparently I can’t read and posted in there just now. It’s been a long day....
DS tested positive for Influenza A. FML. They prescribed Tamiflu, but it was going to cost $198 after insurance since they were out of the generic. Please tell me I’m not a bad mom for not spending the money?! The ped suggested I call my OB to see if they want me to take any precaution, but after reading a few of your experiences I’m not sure I want to take Tamiflu! Im just crossing everything that it is short lived for DS and the fever subsides. We have to keep him home from school until he’s fever free and we don’t have family nearby. Guess I’ll be going through all my PTO. Waahhhh!

We got the same result today and I also opted not to get the tamiflu for him. We can be bad moms together. Just kidding, we’re great moms.
Update on guinea pig number 2: DS2 saw the Guinea pig and said “he’s so cute! We should name him Homer.” So, Homer he shall be haha
Thanks @mrsbubbles-2! @calimom2524 sorry for the diagnosis! It’s definitely no fun. Hope yours is on the mend soon!
for anyone else who’s had experience with it this season, how long did it last? I know it can vary, but our dr said 3-6 days for fever and that seems like a broad range!
I’m in bed at 9pm and it’s so glorious. It has been a long ass day. Hope you all are doing well this evening and hope anyone one or their LOs who aren’t feeling well feel better very soon!!
DS's daycare is closed due to stomach flu, and DH is traveling for work this week, so I have to use my precious sick time to stay home with DS. I LOVE our in-home daycare provider, but she has 5 kids of her own, so she ends up closing due to sickness in the house at least twice per year. I was really hoping to save my sick time, but after today, I'll have already used almost half of it, and it's not even February.. On another note, I think I'm going to go get unisom+b6 today. This nausea is getting out of control. I'm 12 weeks today, was hoping it would pass by now.
I feel you! 12 weeks today and I was sure that it would be gone by now. I will say that starting at 11 weeks it seems to skip a day here and there. But then it comes back with a vengeance! Threw up outside the movie theater after watching Jumanji while my three kids were in the car yelling "mom, are you okay?!" FML. lol.
@lolog531 DS had a fever for about 3 days then day 4 he was ok just a little more cranky than usual. The cough and runny nose are still going though and he ended up needing antibiotics for a little ear infection after the flu was over. The pediatrician said it’s pretty normal for them to end up with some form of upper respiratory thing after the flu. So in total about 2 weeks of sickness and we kept him home for 5 days
@ecwk I’m about to curl up in bed because DH has a meeting and it’s 8:00 and I’m more excited than I probably should be.
@mrsbubbles-2 I’m worried about what could come after, too. We just had croup 2.5 weeks ago, so hopefully all the other crap stays away after this! I’m flying to Cali next Friday to see my BFF for 4 days and I’m hoping he’s better by then. 12 days away, so FX he is and neither of us get it because I (selfishly) don’t want to reschedule the trip!
I did newborn, 6M and 1 year photos of DS. My goal is to do the same thing with the next one. We were both the 2nd kid, I don't want the second kid to feel like any less.
We did them, too. We just didn’t spend thousands of dollars! We lucked out at 6 months because we snagged a mini session in a fundraiser for peanuts. Amazing photos.,Otherwise, JCPenney all the way.
My dad and his wife are amazing and great houseguests- but I literally did a happy dance after taking them to the airport this morning. I can go back to being lazy AF all day if I choose, can fart, eat whatever I want and not suck it in anymore (we didn’t tell them until their 7th day with us. Big mistake LOL)
I really want this job. The only stipulation is, I still have to finish out this quarter of school. (Finals week is 3/20) so they would need to be willing to work with me ~ 6ish weeks.
This baby surprise threw my plans for a loop (applying for nursing program in September) and I feel like we need some financial stability.
@juliebird6 I have also been lurking, and not even love titting! I'm trying to jump back in a little. @derbysquirrel I did not have newborn photos taken of DS either. It looked so expensive. This time, I may do it for the nice pics of DS and the baby together, but agree with @livinthesunnylife I think I look horrid in almost all the pics we had taken professionally this last October, so I will try to avoid being in them, lol.
Thankfully DS slept from 7:15 til 5:45 without any wake ups. I think he woke up that early because he had pooped and he was coughing. I tried giving him some Motrin, but since he hadn’t eaten anything it came right back up. We’ve never had an issue on an empty stomach before, but he didn’t eat much yesterday either. His temp is still high 102’s, but I know it’s okay to let it just run its course without meds. He is just so warm and cheeks are flushed. He’s been laying on the couch watching PawPatrol since we woke up. He’s drinking water a bit, but won’t eat anything. Just breaks my heart. Oh, and DH told me this morning his throat hurt and he felt achy. Awesome. Ugh.
The 100th day of school is coming up, and my admin just sprung a project on us- early childhood is going to think about our community 100 years ago and do a project based on that. My class is going to research prices of groceries (since we have to have a math component as a gifted class) and set up a store in our classroom. It's going to be a lot of work, but I have high hopes.
Me: 28 DH: 29 Married: 6/2016 TTC #1: 12/2016 Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!
Catching up from yesterday. I’m so sorry there are so many moms and littles with fevers. Sending all the healing vibes!
DH is home from work sick again, I don’t feel great, but I’ve got to get out of this house. DS is stir crazy.
Our wedding photographer had a baby package and did newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and 1 year photos of ds. I’m glad we did it but not sure we will do the same for new baby. We haven’t even discussed it, actually. I always feel like if I don’t do that kind of stuff and brag about it on social media, I’m a terrible mom and am missing out on something. I know that’s dumb; fb is not good for my mental health most days.
@roadspeckle Congrats on the interview! I have everything crossed that they're willing to work with you! Yay!
@lolog531 - so glad your DS slept through the night. It's so sad to see them feeling sick and not wanting to eat. We did a lot of milk and juice just so he was getting some calories and went back to counting wet diapers. I hope it passes quickly!
@jsnakehole I'm sure you've mentioned it before but what grade do you teach? Your project sounds awesome!
We never did the newborn photos with DS and I'm on the fence about doing them with this baby. I do want a birth photographer though, a good girlfriend of mine offered to do it for me.

That’s really cool, but it’s also why I don’t really want to teach elementary again. That’s too much work
@mrsbubbles-2 DS has issues with milk and dairy, so unfortunately we can’t do that to help with the calories which is a bummer! I’m just trying to push fluids as much as I can and hoping for the best.
I'm a photographer (I used to be a journalist so I just bought myself a nice camera and kept taking photos after I left that field). So I don't really worry about photos, but, we never get good family photos. I cried my eyes out last summer after I took all our friend's and family's beach photos (we all traveled together, like 16 of us). I handed my camera over and gave explicit directions on how to take our photos and they were crooked, cut off at, like, my boobs, etc. I usually just tell people to zoom ALL THE WAY OUT and get our full bodies and I mess with the cropping and such later. I'm twitching thinking about it. So sad. It was awful.
@lolog531 I really hope this passes quickly for you guys! Keep us posted!
@ladygali I hope your DH feels better soon! I'm with you on FB - I have an account but haven't posted / responded to anything on there in years. I found myself getting hyper-competitive over the dumbest stuff and it was better just to take a break for a while. Now I just use it to feed my lularoe addiction
Speaking of photos, I am getting birth photography done this time around, since #3 is my last baby and giving birth is the most bad-ass thing I've ever done and I want it on record at least once.
I love professional photos though - I have done maternity ones, newborn ones, baptism ones, 1 year ones, and then yearly family ones for all the kids.

i am considering doing some birth photos. But I may just give my camera to my husband. He has a pretty good eye as well.
Oh and birth photos- so my doula does pictures and I told her I didn't want anything icky or pictures "down there". She did them anyway and I guess I was so in the moment that I didn't notice. They are actually pretty cool pictures. Nobody will ever see them, but they are cool.
I'm so excited to have birth photographs this time - I remember everything about DS's birth except the moment he came out! It's like my memory just blanked that part and I've been pretty annoyed about it. I had the mirror and everything just so I could see that moment and nope!
