What have you done so far to get ready for baby? We have finally come to the realization that we'll only get about 10% of what's on our registry - so we decided to start buying the main things one by one. The crib has been bought and built, dresser is ordered and being shipped, and a new pantry is being installed in the kitchen for all the baby items. I've bought a craft box and ordered the medicine items for a baby tackle box (if you havent seen this - check it out at https://www.allfourloveblog.com. The overplanner in me LOVES this idea.)
What upcoming projects are you planning? We are repainting the kitchen cabinets to match the new pantry this weekend. Also working on getting the nursery set up - we were gifted a very nice glider from a friend, along with 2 stroller bases, a crib matress and a bunch of other gear. Working on getting those transported to our house and disinfecting then organizimg them all. Will also be starting to get my hospital bag together.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help? DIY for sure! DH is a painter/home remodeler for a living, so can count on him for just about anything. I am the organizer, since the heavy lifting is out of the picture.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do? Babyproofing! So many hazards, so little time. Things I see as as, not everyone else agrees are hazards... Also training the rest of the household on how to handle the dogs. Gotta train the people on how to train the dogs!
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by? The message board. Trying to keep everyone on the same page can get dicey. The board is great for communicating when everyone is on different schedules.
Has anyone ever ordered from Land of Nod and do they ever have sales or email coupons? I found the bedding I want to get for the baby’s room and it’s a little pricy. I thought about creating a registry just for the completion discount Which is 10% off. Thinking about decorating the baby’s room is the first and only thing I’ve done as far as nesting
Here's a nesting question: when is it "ok" to wash clothes? I really want to wash all our hand me down clothes and start putting them away but we still have 2.5 months until the kiddos come. Is that too early? Will they get dusty? I have no idea
@nhardler pshhh I’ve been washing our hand me downs for two weeks (we have a lot). Trying not to wash any new purchases in case we need to exchange sizes or something. It never occurred to me that the clothes might get dusty or something by sitting clean in her drawer or closet for too long. I feel like I have to do it while I have time and she is going to come home to a house with two dogs so it’s gonna be dusty/hairy either way hahah
@nhardler any used clothes I’ve been given get washed right when I get them and I’ve been separating sizes into those vacuum space bags. NB and 0-3 months stay out to be put in drawers. I haven’t washed any of the new stuff yet but not because it’ll get dusty. Just because I’m lazy right now and need things to do over the next 8ish Weeks.
What have you done so far to get ready for baby? Baby will be sleeping in our room since I will be breastfeeding and our room is downstairs. DH painted the accent wall and bought most of the baby necessities, he just needs to put the the crib together. Separating DS clothes into weather lock bins for his baby brother. Moving all Legos to DS room
