We moved DD2's bed this weekend so we could start thinking of how the test of the furniture will fit. I hate how it looks and now I'm worried 2 kids can't share the room. It doesn't hello that DH doesn't want they bed next to the window. He is worried she'll fall or the window. There are bed rails on her bed. And i just don't think it'll happen if she's jumping on the bed.
I just can't stop worrying about everything having you do with our lives after this baby is born.
I also started folding out clothes Marie Kondo style. I like being able to see what's in the drawer, but i can't make things fit the way she can.
Shall we all try to set a goal for the coming week?
Ok here's an update for those that were anxiously awaiting an update regarding our crib instructions .... we found them! They were attached to the mattress base piece which we hadn't opened yet. Geeze. We might need a lot of help with this parenting stuff!! Lol

I was going to say I thought my instructions were in the same box as the mattress frame. Glad you found them!

@nanifrog I’ve been folding my shirts/pants that way for years (I also have very specific methods for socks and underwear. Lol.). It’s the best! I can’t imagine ever stacking clothes in drawers again.
@mileswithmyles She teaches to fold things in such a way that they can stand vertically on their own, so you kind of file them instead of stacking them. There are a bunch of YouTube videos if you Google “konmari folding.”
In other news, after a couple failed attempts, I have finally hemmed the nursery curtains and they’re even the right length and in a straight line! In spoiler bc I can’t resize on my phone, and bc they’re just boring curtains, but I’m pretty proud of them. Haha.
@abhphilly the curtains look great! I don't think I'm folding as well as she does. I think maybe i need to only do 2 files instead of 3 to make them stand?
@mileswithmyles i can't explain the method, but check out the videos.
@heelsidehero me too. I was laughing pretty hard at the time. I traveled for work when DS was two months old and was so tired when I got home. DS and DH came with me for the trip and so did the Pack N Play. DH had to leave for work right when we got back from the airport and I was so delirious while trying to put it together by myself.
@abhphilly Quick question on your curtains (awesome job, btw!) We have the thick black out curtains in the playroom, which will be the nursery. Did you use a regular needle and thread in your machine, or did you get heavier duty stuff? I'm afraid the material is too thick and will break my needle.....thoughts?
Me, 35 Hubs, 32 Married June 2012 BFP June 2013- blighted ovum, D&C Aug 2013 BFP Oct 2013- twins! A&H born May 2014 BFP Aug 2017- EDD 5/8/17
@sandbar517 I am far from an expert on sewing, so I might not be the best person to give advice. These are "room darkening" rather than "blackout," and a regular needle and thread worked fine for them. Not sure if blackout would be thicker. The only challenging times were at the edges because the seams made it even thicker, so my presser foot could barely get high enough to go over them, but it still worked out. Good luck!
@nanifrog I don't think I use the officially sanctioned technique. Haha. My main thing is that they all end up the same size rectangle, so it depends on the length of the shirt how many times I fold them. Maternity shirts are folded more times than regular shirts, for example.
@sandbar517 Oh, one tip: Keep the hem as wide as it is on the original curtains. A lot of hemming tutorials tell you to allow 1-2 inches or something, which works for thin, airy curtains but looks weird on thick ones like these. I ended up doing a 3 inch hem, folded under twice, so I added 6 inches to the overall desired length when I measured (if that makes any sense).
@abhphilly Awesome, thanks! The room has grey walls already, so I'm okay keeping those, but the curtains are black, so we may get something a little less gloomy (although the black out feature is pretty nice so whatever we end up getting still may be pretty thick). Either way, I'm pretty sure we'll have to hem whatever we end up getting.

Started prepping to paint (taping, moving furniture, etc)...realized the hell that is painting the closet. Didn't realize how much shit I had in our extra closets until now. oops
+1 for cubes. I got some super cheap old, wire gym baskets from a vintage store.
i did a huge purge today for DS’ toys, clothes, my clothes, our linen closet etc and had 13 bags to donate or sell. Giving several bags to mamas I know in need. Feels great! Had to make room for the boxes we shipped of baby stuff from my moms last week
Grammy is taking the twins Friday night until Saturday afternoon. The plan for Saturday morning is to start going through the massive amount of random stuff shoved in the spare bedroom that needs to be made into a nursery. We'll see if we do that or lay around and do nothing since we're both dealing with colds.
I've been avoiding this thread because it stresses me out to think about how little I have done, but need something to light under my ass and hopefully this will help.
What have you done so far to get ready for baby?
Basically nothing. We have done a lot of thinking and research, but nothing has actually been purchased or done. I'm one of those people who needs to obsessively research every purchase to be sure I'm getting the best option and there's just so much stuff to decide on that doing that research has basically taken over my time and paralyzed me.
I have narrowed it down that I really want the DaVinci Jenny Lind crib, but I'm really mad at myself for not ordering it when I first decided that because it's gone up $70 in price and now says 4-6 weeks for delivery instead of getting it in 2 days.
Then I'm thinking the 8 cube Kallax for storage, and I need to find a glider recliner. The suggestions on here are good but I wish there were some options I could actually try locally. The only one I got to try that I really loved was $1,300, which, yeah, no. I have a feeling we will end up with the Davinci Piper, even though I really wish it was softer. Anyone have any experience with this one?
Our house is small with not much storage so we are really trying to get things organized so we actually have a place to put baby stuff. Then we need to turn our minds to clearing out the guest room, getting it painted and starting to set it up as a nursery.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
DIY. The only exception may be something like getting the window in that room fixed if MH can't figure out why it won't open more than an inch.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Painting the nursery is going to be really annoying because a couple years ago we had a leak around the window that bubbled and cracked all the paint. We're going to need to scrape all that down and plaster it and sand it before we can paint.
The basement also really, really needs to be organized because it's our only real storage and right now it looks like a bomb went off. That is going to SUCK. I can barely stand up straight down there and MH can't at all so just being down there isn't fun.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
I don't really have anything in particular. Seeing people talk about their Roombas make me really want one, because I hate vacuuming so our floors are always dirty, which won't fly with a crawling baby. I consider my cleaner who comes every 2 weeks to be an essential, does that count?
@nhardler the sorelle crib?? The instructions ended up being attached the the bottom of the crib (the spring part that holds the mattress) but we found them online too. Get ready for hours of using an Allen key!
I'm damned impressed at how much everyone has already accomplished! I'm pretty sure I didn't do a darn thing until about 36w with my 1st. Go all of you!
Since the move is so close to baby drop 2018, he'll be living in the travel pack and play in our room with a suitcase of clothes and diapers until he's approximately 2.5-3 months old. I'll worry about more crap than that in August.
@babys_2018 OH! I really hate using those Allen key thingies! Maybe it's too many years of buying (and loving) Ikea furniture! I'll start preparing myself mentally!
We were fortunate to be given a beautiful, handmade dresser from a friend of ours who had boy/girl twins (like we are expecting). It had some scratches so I thought, "great, I'll just repaint it!" Yeah, that was not smart. I have no patience, and I hate painting. I so admire people who can perfectly recreate Pinterest painting projects because I am more the "Pinterest fail" photos that we see so often.
Here is the middle of the project....let's hope it turns out all right!
@nhardler very pretty! What color are you painting it? I'm in the middle of painting my dresser which will double as a changing table. Much smaller but our nursery space is tight for our twins. Good luck and can't wait to see the finished product!
omg i'm so jealous, you guys have so much done already! I feel like nesting is sitting in the car in the driveway but hasn't been convinced yet to actually come into the house for a visit lol
What have you done so far to get ready for baby? I'm with a few others... conceived said baby lol I still have the dresser, crib, changing table (which I never used as anything except storage) and glider/ottoman from my son so we're ok on furniture. Though my ex messed up the bushings or something in the glider so now it squeaks terribly, even if it's oiled so I looked up the company today to get replacement hardware. I've gotten some clothes and a toy or two but that's about it. I was team green with my son, so I could have used a lot of the newborn clothes, but they were all destroyed at my old house during my divorce and a quite a few of his good toys (saucer activity center type things) were taken by my ex-in-laws so we're starting fresh on that stuff, but we have time there
What upcoming projects are you planning? We have to rearrange everything in our house lol 2 have 2 extra bedrooms in our addition but the windows have to be replaced and the sliding glass door in the living room area of the addition needs to be changed to a standard external door before I would be comfortable putting the boys in those bedrooms. Then we have an inlaw suite, but again, too far away for my kids to essentially be living in an apartment away from us lol. So for now, we're going to have 3 bedrooms with 5 people. Briar will be in our bedroom for a while, eventually she'll be in with DS until we get the windows and such done. DS and DSS in the same room can't really work for really long story type reasons.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help? Super DIYer, I would much rather do it or build it ourselves. Both our dads have done electrical and plumbing, my dad has also done drywall and the like over the years, DH's dad was an engineer in the navy. We only hire if we don't have the tools and it would just be too expensive to rent or buy them lol
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do? um... delivery? lol I'm not really looking forward to cleaning and rearranging our bedroom, we have to find somewhere else in the house to put our guinea pigs where our kitten can't sit on the cage lid (he's heavy enough to collapse it and it stresses them out, understandably lol)
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by? of course the washer and dryer, I would love to have a dishwasher but our kitchen is too small for a standard. I totally agree with the drill, I also think that everyone should have a basic tool box with a handful of screwdriver sizes, a basic socket set, level, etc.

cups4 Yeah, never again will I take on this much painting. Last night, I realized I missed the gaps between the drawers. My husband said no one will ever notice but it'll drive me crazy so there I am, again, sitting on the floor, painting this giant dresser!
@doubleblessings1124 It was a light cream color before so I painted it white to match the cribs. It looks great now! I'll take a pic and share once we get it all put back together, ha ha!
