We’re halfway through and May will be here before we know it! Some of you are already nesting. Some of you hang on my side of the fence and are sitting there Bumping instead.

Re: Nesting Motivation (or Lack there Of)
Bought a few “big” things like a double jogger and convertible car seat. I’m a STM and not having a shower so nothing to wait for this time. I also threw all the nursery furniture in the room and closed the door. We switched DD to a twin bed a few nights ago if you’ve followed my fun with that.
What upcoming projects are you planning?
the nursery was once my office complete with TVs and clothing racks screwed into the wall. I have a LOT of drywall work to do. Plus painting. I’m going to start with decorating DD1s big girl room and move on to the nursery before I’m big and miserable. Getting the rest of the needs is a project in itself.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help? Since DH is gone, I’ll hire some of the guys at our restraurant to move furniture and do some heavy lifting stuff for me. But I’ll do the work myself. DH will put up the chandelier when he gets home and my mom is an interior designer so she’ll handle the details for me.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
this.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
my Roomba. I have 2 dogs and it helps my sanity and cuts down on the work. So I have more time to sit on my butt and Bump.
I bought a onesie and some headbands....
Most of our stuff is spread out across the country with my parents and IL's. So we have to figure out the logistics of getting stuff down here somehow. It's a 20+ hour drive from my parents so that's not really doable..... we have a few months to figure it out!
What upcoming projects are you planning?
The only real project we need to do is move furniture around the house so this kid will fit. She'll sleep with us for awhile, so there's no real hurry, but we need to bunk the boys' beds and move their dressers to make room for a crib in the guest bedroom. (So whoever gets to stay with us will have to room with a baby. We'll guarantee we only have guests who REALLY love us for awhile!)
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
DIYer. If only I had unlimited time and money!
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Figure out how to get all of our baby stuff to our state!
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
Headphones. I like to put in a podcast if I'm going to do any cleaning/folding/organization. It makes the time go by so much faster!
Also @Poppy0419 I want a roomba SOOO bad. We have two dogs too though, and I keep seeing those youtube videos with the dog that poops on the floor.... Neither dog has had an accident in awhile, but it would be just my luck.
What have you done so far to get ready for baby?
Conceived it. Basically that's all we've done majorly. That and saying "so, no more spare bedroom then, yeah?"
What upcoming projects are you planning?
Once we decide on a theme, we'll have to paint the room. We also have a dresser we want to pay to get restored because we don't know how to do it properly and we want stain, not paint.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
Other than the dresser, we'll do it all ourselves. We're cheap and the Internet exists for basic lessons and such. Plus we've painted every room in our home, which is 11 and our hallways and stairways. We've actually painted 3 rooms twice since moving in 4 years ago. So we can paint, not well, but we can.
Although my brother is very excited about this new baby. He's been trying very hard to be more involved with me and my kids and my other brothers family. He asked the moment we announced I was pregnant if he could be godfather. He was already going to be or that could have been awkward!
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Literally all of it. I know it'll look great, but we have no motivation this time. And I can't do a lot during the day like I did first pregnancy because, toddlers.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
There's nothing I really swear by. DH loves this small detail paint brush he bought for $5. He tells anyone who mentions paint about it.
Drywall work is the worst!!
@k5678 have you looked into ground shipping items that aren't huge? Since you have time, it might be cost effective?
What have you done so far to get ready for baby?
Not a ton. Started clearing out what will be the nursery but still have a ways to go! Will also need to remove the old closet system and replace it.
What upcoming projects are you planning?
Building the crib we bought on black Friday. Putting up a decal. Installing a closet organization system.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
A bit of both depending on how complex!
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Making decisions!! I'm the worst. I'm not sure how to pull all the design ideas together so we we see how that goes!
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
Hmm probably those round grippy pieces of fabric that help you open stubborn jars!! Does that count? lol
What upcoming projects are you planning? we need to pick paint for the baby’s room and we are going to do wainscoting in her room. We need to convert the toddler bed back to the crib. I also need to move all the contents of DS’s current room to his new room and the contents of that closet to the attic. I’m also planning of sorting through all the boy clothes we saved to pick out what I want to reuse and then I’m giving the rest to a friend who had a baby in August. TW- premie- He was born at 27 weeks, so he’s still pretty small and they should be able to use most of our clothes.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help? I’m more of a hiring help kinda gal, but DH is handy and has taken on the bulk of the projects. I’m a good direction follower with them.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do? In general, putting the house back together. Everything is everywhere right now and it’s making me crazy.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by? my cleaning lady? Seriously, having her come once a month is amazing. I also love my Dyson. With two dogs, it’s worth every penny.
The nursery was my art studio so we've purchased a large wardrobe from Ikea, put it in the basement and moved all of my supplies out of the room and into the unit. The room now houses everything leftover from DS (crib/changetable, recliner, swing, clothes, exersaucer etc) so we need to sort it but at least it's all in one spot for the most part. Not sure that all of it will stay in there.
What upcoming projects are you planning?
Sorting obviously lol and painting. The walls and a few pictures I have in mind. Im also about 1/3 done knitting a baby blanket.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
Ehhh both? Hiring a painting company this time cuz the whole upper lever really needs it so we may as well get it all done now. The rest (light fixtures, smaller items) we will do ourselves.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Ugh yes. One wall is entirely a built in unit with shelves to the ceiling on either side with and desk space in between. Not sure if the painters will do that part or we will but it's going to suck. Also there is this ridiculous leather covered board that runs between the shelving, above the window and desk space. It was there when we moved in 6+ years ago and we've done nothing with it but it's so tacky. Leather bound and studded with the West Coast Choppers logo (is this still even a thing?) I'm toying with the idea of not removing it completely but recovering it with a cute patterned fabric once the painting is done. But who knows...
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
The lazy boy recliner in the nursery. Omg. Just kick back and do your thing mama! So comfy!! And if youve gotta be in that room alot in the night for whatever reason it's a great spot to snooze.
@mileswithmyles when I decided to SAH I stopped using a cleaning lady. I need it now more than ever!!! Maybe that’s what I’ll get myself for Christmas.
We have our cribs and a nice double stroller. Also some clothes, books and toys because it was hard not to buy Have done a mass cleaning of our bedrooms, closets, and storage cabinets to make room.
What upcoming projects are you planning?
Nursery is 3/4 painted, finishing up this weekend with a faux shiplap feature wall. Bought this dresser ($30!) off Craigslist, plan to paint/refinish it and use it for a changing table
Also having my dad build storage for a future play nook in our basement similar to this idea
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
Definitely DIY. I love to paint, sew and have done some reupholstering. As for the builders and big projects luckily my husband and dad are super handy/skilled.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Still have more cleaning, things to get rid of. We've been in our house 8 years and my husband has lots of (unnecessary) stuff
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
Storage! I love our kitchen pantry as well as the laundry pedestals. It's a tight space so it helps a lot.
What have you done so far to get ready for baby?
Ordered furniture. Should be here any day. Also have pretty much all clothing for 0-3M since I got everything on clearance once we found out we’re having a girl this time. I went through my sons stuff to see what we can reuse, what needed to be thrown, and what my sister wanted.
What upcoming projects are you planning?
Just putting the furniture in place. Wanted to get this done before busy season starts in a week and a half.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
DIY. My husband does everything thankfully.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Cleaning the house in general. Waiting for the nesting feeling to kick in. Last time it was around 30-32 weeks or so which was too early because everything was a mess again by the time we had our son.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
@Poppy0419completely agree with the roomba! And highly recommend the mop version bravaa (I think?) if you don’t alrrady have it!
Mentally prepare for moving the toddler to his big boy room lol. Got an auto rock n play, 2 camera monitor, queen mattress for said toddler, and some Threshold storage cubes and bins from Target. I figured these would be much easier on me than setting up an entire dresser again and efficient to use.
What upcoming projects are you planning?
Need to paint over the blue lattice/diagonal wall in the nursery. I'm just going to go over it with white and then do a picture wall. Home Goods had some awesome wall art with pictures and phrases like "The Future is Female" and "Girls are Superheroes" that I'm going to create her picture wall with.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
DIYer but not in the sense of making stuff, but fixing stuff. My dad is a mechanic so I grew up just getting shit done lol. I've helped put in a new sump pump, changed our thermostat system, put together ALL of our furniture, and mounted all the TVs in our home.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Um, does dealing with a newborn count?
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
We love our carpet cleaner with having 2 dogs and kids. Once the dogs kick the bucket I want to get rid of the carpet entirely, but it's so helpful right now.
What upcoming projects are you planning? So we're about to have our main bathroom redone, so most of my attention has been on that (it is crazy how much organization this takes!). But we will also be focusing on rearranging and really setting up our basement as a playroom for my almost 3-year-old daughter. I need to get her playing there before May as I need toys out of my living room! And then there's the actual nursery, which really just requires paint, window treatments, maybe some new baseboard and finding other places to store everything that is currently stored in the closets.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help? DIYer (aside from the bathroom reno)
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do? How late in pregnancy should one paint a room? I really want to do it myself, rather than have DH do it (he's not careful!), but I feel like I need the other 2 rooms done first, so we're definitely talking 3rd trimester or at least very close to it.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by? box cutter - I have one of those really simple ones that you can't seem to find in stores anymore since all they sell is utility knives (got mine on Amazon). I use it all the time!
We have a crib and glider. We've painted the room and boy do I hate painting. I absolutely love our color scheme though. It's grey and white with teal accents. I also have a lot of samples and a boppy pillow.
What upcoming projects are you planning?
I need more furniture in the nursery like a dresser and book shelf and building those if I have to put them together is a project. I'm so tired of building after putting the crib together. That was torturous.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
DIY cause poor but also not crafty.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Building more furniture if necessary. My mom suggested garage sales which is fine but those usually don't start til like April when snow is gone and that's too close to due date. I love organizing though so that I'm not dreading.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
That's a hard question as I hate all housework. A dishwasher is great because I've lived without that before and hand washing is a pain. I like my swiffer mop cause I can just throw the pads away and not need a sink full of water.
I'll be doing this awesome challenge to help get me purging, cleaning and organizing one room a week:
https://www.abowlfulloflemons.net/2017/12/coming-soon-the-2018-home-organization-challenge.html
I have the book and did it last year (it was super helpful) but there are also free printables available on Jan.1st if you don't have/want the book.
The challenge begins Jan. 6th and you have the entire week get through the listed room/space, then the next week it moves on to a new space until you're through everything. It walks you through how to organize everything including tips.
If anyone wants to do it with me, let me know and I can create a seperate thread!
Each twin has their own side of the closet and I put random stuff in the stacker.
Costco.
What upcoming projects are you planning? I'm thinking that I will have to put the crib and baby dresser and changing table in my home office.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help? there isn't much for anyone else to do. I'm not really doing anything.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do? lose my office. Think about how we will make space for baby.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by? roomba is good but it's declining battery life annoys me. I just got a little handheld Dyson which I'm loving. The mopping roomba sounds like a good one, I'm going to look into that.
yep I’m loving this cube thing idea. I think I’m going to put one in our living room some how for toys.
AFM
I thought we hadn’t done much but I guess we kinda have. My grandmother bought us a crib and mattress for Christmas. It’s not together yet but we at least have it. Same for our glider from my stepmom. We had to transfer the office to the guest room so my H worked on that why he was off this week and painted the nursery since I definitely won’t be doing that and he hardly has the time. It looks really nice. We are doing a poppy spring theme so the walls are green and we will have white furniture.
Tried to put the pic in a spoiler in case it was huge but mobile sucks we need to do the trim and apparently clean the door? I have no idea what’s on it
Made a secret registry on Target to start making a list for what we need (and the coupons)
Bought a few outfits when I went to the Carter's outlet
Spent too long looking at outfits on Etsy
What upcoming projects are you planning?
Cleaning out the playroom so there is room for the baby
Getting the NB clothes down, washing them and making sure we are all set in that department
Getting the breastpump out, ordering new parts and make sure it all still works
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
DIY as much as I can
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Cleaning out the playroom
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
I love the cubes like everyone above, they make cleaning up toys easy. I also have this sponge that I call the happy sponge (it is in the shape of a happy face) and it is amazing at wiping down dishes predishwasher and seems to last so much longer than my regular sponges.
I really want a steam cleaner for the carpet...
Here are are a bunch of pictures of what I got going on. I’ve done a few paintings for this little girl and then got carried away with the unicorn theme. The last pic is wallpaper I hope to put ul
some weekend I’ve had it for months.
Ordered the double stroller and have made my amazon registry - just doing that so I get the completion discount. I need to make a list of things to “do”.
What upcoming projects are you planning?
Going through DDs newborn and 3 month clothes to see what will work for summer - she was a winter baby. Organizing the nursery and spare to see what will go with her to her new room and what we can reuse. Also planning on doing something to our basement to make it more of a play area, but that’ll be a spring project.
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
DIY for the organizing, hiring contractors/ whoever for the basement.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
Washing all the covers for everything - car seat, swing, RnP, mamaroo...
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
We did cubes instead of a dresser for DD for her clothes and it worked out really well. Super easy to go through, we didn’t accumulate a ton of clothes she never wore, and it made it easier to have a visual of what we need in bigger sizes.
