Re: Names

  • So DH just veto'd the boy pick we'd settled on for the last three years.  :/
Back to the drawing board I guess!
  • Loading the player...
  • My husband and I have yet to agree on a name. We have the middle names picked out, but our daughter’s name is Leighton, so..

girl: Everleigh Rose or Saylor Rose
boy: Knox Christopher of Landon Christopher
  • I’m stuck on the name Spencer right now. DH won’t comment.
  • @derbysquirrel We plan on naming our son Hayden! It is my DH's grandmothers maiden name, which is important to him (and I also like it).

  • The girl name we agree on is Clara Elaine. I also really would like Margaret Elaine but apparently ‘Maggie’ is ruined by TWD

Boy name we agree on is Liam, no middle name yet. I’m thinking maybe John which was my grandpas middle name. We need another one though because I believe in seeing the baby before deciding

  • We have said for years we would name our first girl after my grandmothers middle name. But now we are kinda over it. The only boys name we kinda agree on is Alex which is DH's name. Neither one of us wants a JR. though. I am really into Ronan or Rowan for a boy.

@amac12999 I love the name Spencer. I’ve always had it on my list, but also have a husband who wouldn’t commit.

Our name is now set! Ruby Lynn it is! I’m super glad we don’t have to come up with another boy name!!!!
We are so screwed if we have to come up with a third girls name.  I mean I'm super happy to have another girl if that's what happens, but I have no idea how we'll name her.
  • Hey girls, me and my honeyboo are trying to be super unique.  What do ya'll think of Rumplestiltskin for a boys name?
  • What would you call him for short? Rump?

  • I thought for sure I had my names picked out but now I'm leaning towards Ezra for a boy and Fiona for a girl. These are DRASTICALLY different from my original choices. I feel like I'm going to go through so many names in the next 29ish weeks.

Me too. We were set on Oliver. Old family name. But I see how friggin’ popular it is now and I’m not feeling it. I thinks it’s #3 on SS website. Blah.

  • I wouldn't let popularity deter me from a name I wanted, but I get it. If I have a boy he'll be named after my father, William. SUPER popular, but what can I do? The name was decided over a decade ago! Also, more names than ever are in the mix now, so even the most popular of names aren't as common as they once were. I doubt he will ever be one of three Williams in his class like happened to me in the early 90s.

  • Love Oliver but yes with the popularity. We're kinda digging Emmett or Spencer for a boy, Matilda for a girl.

That's a good point @derbysquirrel. DS2 is Ethan and that was like #7 the year he was born. I never even looked at top 10 lists or anything, I just liked the name. We live in Silicon Valley so with the diversity in our region Ethan is a SUPER unpopular name and he will probably always be the only one in his class with that name. I'm Katherine (thank you 1980s) and I had 7 Katherine's with my same middle name in my graduating class. It never bothered me once.

All of this word vomit to say, @dirtanddiamonds who cares if it's popular! If you like it, go for it.

  • @dirtanddiamonds My UO awhile back was the same mentality of @calimom2524, if you like the name go ahead and use it! I'm an Ashley who grew up in the 90s and it didn't bother me at all :)

  • I’m a Meghan born in 1980 (and just to be extra, my middle is Jennifer - aka the most popular girls name ever).

And dh is Ryan born in 80 too. So we both had VERY popular names. It totally wasn’t a big deal to me, but he hated it, so we wanted to avoid top 10. Henry and Isaac are both around 40ish, and Rory is waaaaay down the list.

  • @pghctwife OMG I've never met someone else that loves Emmett Otter! That's where I fell in love with the name and our family has watched it every Christmas for I don't know how long... as long as I can remember! How cool!

  • @pghctwife I love the name Rory! Love Henry and Isaac too, but we have friends who have used those recently.

DS is Colin which I didn’t think was too popular but now I feel like it’s everywhere. DH wants to stay out of the top 50, which eliminated my 2 favorite names right now, Nathan and Caleb. I wish he didn’t care.
  • Sounds like this might be unpopular, but I also wouldn’t go with a super popular name—although I’m probably biased because I’m a Katie and there were always soooooo many Katie’s in my classes growing up. We have DS a very uncommon name, although we can’t agree on many for this kid’s name. It was like we had one good name and used it already haha
  • @kburg15 we had this same conversation last night! We love DS's name - I have no idea how to begin to find a name I love as much as his!

  • Miraculously, we have mostly agreed on names.

If it’s a girl, she will be Ruth Berrett after husbands paternal grandmother and my mother’s maiden name.

if it’s a boy, he will be Clark Henry (middle name still a little up in the air, husband wants Edgar but I HATE it so I will not be budging; considering Clark Paul after his maternal grandfather if he can’t get behind Henry).

I never realized how stressful naming a baby could be!

DS is Colin too! So far around here he’s the only one we’ve encountered!

I love both these names...have suggested both to DH. He is kinda 'ehhh' on them, though. But that's how he is on EVERY name except the two he likes: Mathilda and Nathaniel. But I love Ezra and Fiona!

  • So yesterday, we found out we are having a boy, and of course we only had girl names picked out! *facepalm*. DH wanted “Nathaniel” as a middle name to honor his late father, but it’s not a non-negotiable. Our last names are long, so I feel like I have to default to a super short first name if the middle name is Nathaniel. Any suggestions? So far, I like Trip/Tripp and Nico but that was quickly veto’d. He likes Teo and Ali (like Muhammad Ali). We both also like Kai and Atlas. Haaaalp. This baby boy won’t have a name til the 9th month!
  • @lanieslumpia - I like Kai with Nathaniel! Check out nymbler - you can put in names you like and it will give you names that are similar

  • Thanks, girl!
  • Some awesome names on this thread! We haven't started talking about it yet, and won't until we know the sex of the baby. DS is Hugo, which in our eyes was the absolute perfect boy name - not popular but not weird, classic, literary, and coincidentally both Broadway and Disney related (two of our loves). It's going to be a challenge coming up with another cool name I think.

Because this is our second rainbow baby, I really want to choose something color related. I think Ruby works best with our last name, and I like that it's 4 letters like Hugo. Violet is another favorite. For boys all I've really thought of is Hunter. I like the name, but I know several from growing up, and eh... We'll see.

  • @elsieisamoocow I like you even more now!  Hugo is a family name for me that I'm hoping to use as a middle name for this son since we did DH's dad's name for DS.
