IVF with donor eggs

Re: IVF with donor eggs

  • @Chitown16 Good luck for retrieval tomorrow!!
@JamieH2000 We're going to wait for ERA until next cycle (that sounds so negative but I don't mean it to be). Crossing our fingers that this is our lucky cycle in February.  I have to admit that when I lose all hope, my hubby sometimes surprises me and gives me hope that I hadn't expected.  I decided over the weekend that maybe I wanted to get a puppy and that maybe that would help me take the focus off all the fertility stuff.  He gently reminded me that we do not need to be taking care of a new puppy and baby at the same time.  He's usually a pessimist but just hearing that reassurance lifted me up a bit.
@Rachelh0912 It's so funny how infertility makes us so excited about getting a period :)  Hoping for no fluid for you and no fluid for me.
AFM, my saline sonogram was normal yesterday so I was able to submit everything for insurance and am hoping for a quick approval.  I'll be torturing them tomorrow just to let them know that I'm going to be annoying and am going to call them every day :)

  • @chitown16- yay for ER day!! So excited for you and can't wait to hear the good news!!

@rachelh0912- yay for getting started!!! after getting cancelled for fluid in my lining myself, I totally get your worries! I will say I didn't have a fluid issue the next cycle (though we did change to a stimulated FET protocol). Hopefully this will be your cycle and you are only a few weeks from transfer!!

@radmom27- I totally get it about the ERA. Sometimes I wonder if its worth it, since 80%+ of women are shown via the test to have the normal transfer window. So many prayers that Feb is your cycle! That is so sweet about your husband! Sometimes they come through just when we need them! I have contemplated getting a puppy as well, but we are both gone from 7am-6pm, so that would just not be fair to a puppy. I think the only time I could have a puppy is during maternity leave haha!

  • OK I have an update!  We got 27 eggs but only 19 were mature and 2 were almost mature so I guess they were going to watch them for a while. They are attempting to fertilize 15 of them via ICSI, they froze 4 eggs, and if the other two come around they are going to ICSI them too. I of course am already second guessing the decision to freeze the 4. Fingers crossed that a good number of the 15 fertilize!

  • @ChiTown16 Yay! That’s wonderful news! So happy for you! Anxiously awaiting your next update!!
  • All 15 fertilized!  I cannot tell you how relieved I am. There have got to be some good blasts in there, right?  Do you guys think getting 6-8 blasts is realistic or am I setting myself up for disappointment? We decided if there are more than a few then we are going to do PGS testing, since we cannot transfer until Feb. anyways. Also I got my period and went in for baseline this morning so that's good.  Was worried it wasn't going to come and that I was going to get kicked back again. All in all a good day! Trying to be cautiously optimistic.

laurad75JamieH2000radmom27  So after the fert. report on day 1, when did you guys hear another update from the lab?  They told me the next one would be day 5, and I was like, um OK.  Not to be overly needy, but I was hoping for daily updates which is what I always got with my OE cycles at my previous clinic  :(  Oh well.

rachelh0912  How are you feeling about everything?  You started the patches, right?
  • @chitown16- that is the best news!! I sure hope you get at least 6-8 blasts!! I had 18 fertilize and got 12 blasts. My clinic also didn’t give me an update until day 6 when all were frozen. I think if you have lots of embryos and they don’t need to consider a day 3 transfer they want to leave them alone. It’s hard to wait, but it really should be good news!!

  • @ChiTown16 That is great news!  FX you get lots of good quality blasts but I think you have realistic expectations.  I had 19 fertilize and had 9 blasts.

I did not get an update in between fertilization and and day 5.  I didn't even know how many blasts I had until my day 5 transfer.  From what I understand its best to not disturb them until at least day 5.  Good luck!

  • @ChiTown16 I’m so excited to hear your good news! I would expect great results after 15 fertilized! Yay!! I’m so glad you had a day full of good news. Those tend to mean more when you’re dealing with everything we are!

AFM- I’m doing well on my patches! I upped my dose yesterday and am just marking off the days! As of now, I go in next Monday, the 22nd, for a lining check and bw! Thank you for checking on me! I love having this group! I hope everyone else is staying busy! It seems like the first few months after Christmas crawl by. Especially when you’re waiting for something so exciting!
  • @ChiTown16 I heard a fert report on day 2 and then nothing until Day 5.  I heard something for Day 5 and additional info on Day 6 about how many had been frozen.
@rachelh0912 I agree that the beginning of the year is moving SLOWLY.  Trying to be patient but finding it really hard.

  • @chitown16- hanging in there ok? Only 1 more day right?

@rachelh0912- Hope your lining is looking great on Monday! You are getting so close. I agree this time of year just drags. At least in summer the nice weather is a distraction, but its hard during winter to not just sit on the couch and think about everything allll the time.

@radmom27- where are you going on your trip? I'm counting the days until we leave (18 days haha). Just hoping my ERA goes smoothly and my lining is ready to go by next friday. I have a check on Thursday.

  • OK I have a good update!  We had 8 blasts today on day 5, plus two more early blasts and one morula.  I had them biopsy the 8 that were ready today for PGS, and if the other ones grow to full blasts tomorrow they are just going to freeze them without testing them (for financial reasons I only wanted to test 8 max).  Whew, what a relief!  Somebody assure me that there are going to be a few PGS normal ones in the batch, please!  Out of 8 there's gotta be a few right?!

I'm finally getting excited like this might actually work. Trying to remain cautiously optimistic and not get my hopes up too much.
  • JamieH2000 - what day of the cycle do they do an ERA?  Around when you would typically transfer in the given cycle? I don't know much about them.  That will be good for you to have some peace of mind, though.

laurad75 - Everything still going OK with you?  When is your next U/S?  Are you going to find out the gender or no?  Eeek, so exciting!

  • @ChiTown16 While you know we can't assure you on your blasts the odds are certainly on your side.  My fingers are crossed for you.

All is well here.  I don't have another scan until I meet my OB on Feb 6 which seems so far away.  I was hoping my RE office would be willing to do one more in between (my last us was at 7+3 and the OB appt I'll be 12+1) but they said no since everything looked so good before.  Some offices do another scan at 9 weeks so I was disappointed.

Yes, we are planning to find out the sex.  I can't wait. :)

  • @chitown16- that is a great update! Of course we are all scared of being the exception, odds are good you should have lots of normals! I think the stats say 75%+ normal for under 30? My donor was 28 and had 7 out of 10 normal on her previous cycle before mine. Hopefully the results come back ASAP!! For the ERA, you are usually on estrogen for about 2 weeks and then progesterone for 5 days (if you do a medicated FET). The test will have a reco if you need more or less progesterone to make your lining receptive (but 80% of people are receptive on day 5 based on the studies).

@laurad75- so exciting! I bet the wait is so hard! But glad to hear everything is going good so far. Hopefully 2/6 will come quickly!

@JamieH2000 That’s fantastic news! That should give you such a hopeful feeling moving forward! Things are moving right along! I have my lining check Monday and hope to start progesterone as well! We will (hopefully) be so close! Yay for that! Over the moon for you and your good news!
  • @Chitown16 That is fantastic news about your blasts.  Congrats!!
@JamieH2000 Sounds like your ERA is going exactly according to plan!!
@rachelh0912 Good luck on your lining check Monday!!
AFM...this week has been very stressful.  I've been fighting with my insurance company all week and after hours on the phone, faxing, refaxing medical documents and going through 8 different reviewers, they have rejected me for an FET on the grounds that "I do not meet the medical qualifications."  I found all of this out Friday evening after I pushed for a decision because for me to make my transfer date, I have to start Lupron this weekend.  I told DH and he surprised me and told me to just stop fighting with the insurance company and that we would pay out of pocket.  I can't express how much stress that has taken off of me and how relieved I feel.  So it looks like tomorrow, is my Lupron start date!  I'm happy to just be moving forward.

  • radmom27 - Did you insurance pay for your DE retrieval and first transfer?  That's annoying/total BS that they are jerking you around. I know in the past sometimes my insurance co has requested additional records from my clinic in order to make a decision.  I'm assuming your clinic is totally cooperating with them and responding to any requests though.

Glad you are moving forward regardless though and sorry you had to stress about this.
  • @ChiTown16 My insurance company paid for my DE retrieval and first transfer which is why it seems a little strange that a month after that I'm no longer medically eligible.  I know they're jerking me around but I'm sadly just thankful that they provided the DE cycle.  My clinic has been amazing this week faxing and refaxing documents (my ins company keeps claiming that they can't read faxes, that they wanted the embryo grading (PGS testing results were not sufficient) and wanted a complete record of all my prior IVF cycles with my own eggs).  I'm just relieved that we're moving on regardless.  I didn't realize how much stress it was causing!  When do you get your PGS results back?

  • @rachelh0912- thanks! I am doing an ERA this month, not a transfer unfortunately :( Good luck on your lining check today!!

@radmom27- insurance stuff is SO stressful! Glad you can just start and move forward! Perhaps you can still appeal and have it covered later. Regardless, I'm glad your DH was supportive to just start the meds. How long are you on lurpon before you start estrogen? I feel like you are starting meds so much longer before your transfer than I normally do, so just curious on your calendar :) Hopefully I will only be a week or two behind you for a transfer!

@chitown16- I think I missed your final update on blasts! I hope the last few were able to be frozen. FX for great PGS results next!! When is your transfer again?!

  • @JamieH2000 Oh my goodness I promise I knew you were doing an ERA this month! I had a total brain fart! It must be from my hectic weekend! Anyway, i am so sorry I had that “duh” moment! I am anxious to hear about your experience with the whole process seeing as though that will likely be my next step if this cycle is unsuccessful! I’m always rooting for you!

@radmom27 yay for such a sweet and supportive DH! I am so glad that stress is off of you and you can focus on all the good things headed your way! Thrilled for you!

AFM, lining check went well this AM! No fluid this time! My lining was only at an 8.2 which is why I ask you ladies, is that about where you guys normally are or am I a little on the thin side? I am waiting blood work results and will be given my transfer date *hopefully* by the end of the day!
  • @rachelh0912- o no worries at all! Nothing to apologize for! Thanks for rooting for me :) Everyone on this board is just so supportive and I love it! My good friend actually got pregnant with DE with an 8mm lining. I have always heard 7mm is the minimum to transfer, and ideal is over 8mm, so I think you should be plenty to good to go if its 8.2mm and trilinear! Can't wait to hear your transfer date!

  • Well ladies I just got the message that my transfer is canceled AGAIN. They said my progesterone was at a 4.08 which indicates that I ovulated and to discontinue all patches and medication. We are so discouraged. My RE also said they want to start me on Lupron but to be honest I have NO IDEA how that protocol works for an FET? So any insight you ladies may have on that would really put me at ease! I have no idea what’s next! The message was so vague and short and strictly business that I’m left with so many questions!
  • ***lurking**** so sorry to hear your transfer was cancelled @rachelh0912

as for lupron, all my transfers are medicated ones and with Lupron. Lupron basically makes your ovaries to not be active. I usually start Lupron 5 days before the last BCP. And then continue with Lupron until 6 days before transfer when I’m starting PIO.

Lupron sucks. It makes me bloated and causes headaches. The headaches are usually during the first 10-14 days. Once I start using patches the headaches usually go away.

But as as much as it sucks, they control everything. So I think medicated cycles have lower rates of cancellations.

  • rachelh0912 - Oh no!  I'm so sorry, I know how disappointing these stupid delays are.  They must be able to tell that you are in the luteal phase so that's why they are starting you on the lupron. That makes sense to me.  I'm taking lupron now, been doing it a few weeks and going to start estrogen patches and pills tomorrow, and lower the lupron dose but continue to take it. You start it during your luteal phase and it does something so your body doesn't gear up to ovulate.  I haven't had any side effects that I've noticed but I know others do.  FWIW, I had the same thing happen in December; I was supposed to be doing a Jan. transfer but it got pushed back.  They realized I was mid-cycle on December 27 (birth control didn't suppress me I guess), so they gave me a trigger shot to ovulate, I came back a week later, they confirmed I ovulated, and they started me on lupron on Jan. 4th.  Starting estrogen tomorrow, and planning a Feb. 10th transfer if my body cooperates.  They can usually get you back on track quicker than you would think.

JamieH2000 - I am starting estrogen tomorrow and shooting for a February 10th transfer!  We ended up with 8 5-days blasts and are PGS-ing them all. There were a few slower growing ones that did not take it to blast. 8 is the number I was hoping for b/c I didn't want to pay to test any more that that.

radmom27 - I think the lab received them on Friday, so maybe we'll get the results this week (?)  I haven't been told an exact date, they just said they usually test them within 5-7 days of receipt.
  • @rachelh0912- no!! I’m so sorry, cancellations when you think are 5 days from transfer are the worst :( my RE also insists on lupron before and during medicated cycles, to make sure you don’t ovulate. They also watch my ovaries during my lining checks to make sure no follicles are growing so I am surprised they weren’t checking that more for you? If you start lupron soon, you will probably get AF in less than two weeks if you just ovulated and then should be able to start the FET cycle. So hopefully transferring in 5 weeks or so from now. I know it feels like forever tho :( as for side effects, I had some headaches the first few days but that tapered off and I haven’t had much else.

@chitown16- 8 is a great number and I’m crossing everything for great PGS results!! So excited for your transfer so soon! You are first up out of us this round!!

  • @JamieH2000 They make me do Lupron for 4-5 weeks with at least four weeks of IM estrogen before progesterone and transfer.  I truly hate Lupron.
@Joslyn11 Thank you so much for sticking by and cheering us all along.  I believe that any positive vibes we can get are helpful!!!
@rachelh0912 OMG I'm so sorry you got cancelled...I know how much delays and cancellations HURT.  We all are here for you.  I do a long Lupron prep (4-5 weeks) to keep me from ovulating and a month of birth control before that.  I've ovulated through meds before so they don't trust my body not to without a lot of suppression.
@prudence9-2 We must be on the same protocol.  I second EVERYTHING you said about Lupron.

  • @radmom27 hoping u took a long bath or drank a bottle of wine to decompress ugh insurance.  They'll pay for a DE and not the transfer where is the logic its infuriating!! I had to have my dr to some peer to peer non sense with my insurance company over just medication and still got declined.  I'm sorry but after everything I've gone through I'm going to take what my dr prescribes not what the insurance company thinks is equivalent....especially after I already had an allergic reaction to the original medication.  Just hate dealing with insurance and I pay a fortune for mine.. I digress, but they do suck!!

Ugh still hoping it can get straightened out for you but glad you're moving forward regardless!!! Still waiting for you to join me :)

  • @radmom27- that is quite the long protocol, but probably a good idea if you have ovulated through BC before! I don't like the lupron, but i really hate the insulin syringes. They are so dull and always hurt going in! I am usually on it almost 4 weeks total before i start progesterone, and i'm always so ready to be done!

  • @prudence9-2 oh no! I have been reading on Lupron and your experience seems to happen often! I hope it doesn’t make me too uncomfortable! However, I am glad things will be controlled! Thank you for your kind words! It’s so helpful to have ladies who have been there!

@ChiTown16 Thank you so much! I’m hoping they can get be back on track quickly! I know it isn’t long but it feels like forever! I’m glad you don’t have too many side effects. Maybe that will be the case with me! February 10th is getting so close!

@JamieH2000 You’re exactly right! It’s devastating when you think you’re so close! And I totally agree, I know it’s possible but I hoped I’d be monitored a little closer. Hopefully the Lupron will do it’s thing and we make it even closer next time!

@radmom27 It makes me feel better (and also sad) that you had the same issue. I hadn’t heard of that prior this cycle! I’m hoping my RE will finally cover all of the bases so we can get a real shot at this!

@laurad75 Thank you! That’s a great sign! LOL Hopefully this will solve my issue! I appreciate all of the support and info! You guys are all seriously the best!

I have a meeting with RE tomorrow afternoon for a detailed calendar for this cycle so I’m hoping things will get rolling sooner than later! I can’t thank you ladies enough for the support! It’s such a blessing to have somewhere to go with real questions and to find ladies who know what this is like!
