  • @pourmeamocktail Okay that's helpful! So maybe things are just kicking in a lot quicker this go around. Thanks!

  • @shouse11 the boat this time for number 2 has been soo much worse this time than last for me.
  • Question: how early is too early to break out the maternity pants?  I can hold off on tops for a while, but between bloat, constipation, and what I now know to be twins in my ute, my pants are very uncomfortable and im ONLY 6 weeks 2 days. I feel ridiculous and like Im totally jumping the gun in thinking maternity pants. How early do you start wearing them?

  • @Jyoung327 I remember my first pregnancy I held off a long time on maternity pants then immediately regretted my decision to wait once I made the switch. I say just wear what's comfy  :)
  • @Jyoung327 I'm almost 6 weeks and I'm wearing them to work today. The bloat is so uncomfortable with pants and I'm nauseated all day so I figure if these heavenly pants bring a small piece of comfort to my day I'm going to wear them.
  • @baby3ob I’d call the doctor. Maybe mention how last time you were put on progesterone. Definitely call though.
  • I think the biggest mistake I made when pregnant with my first was fighting maternity clothes!!!! They are so comfy and so wonderful!! ;)

My implantation bleeding was super light for less than a day.
  • I hate maternity pants but even at 5+2, the bloat is not allowing real pants. I wear alot of dresses at work but that bloat bump...  :s I have a few loser fitting ones so those will get some heavy rotation. I think most of my skirts will be okay until close to the end but will need to buy some loser tops to get through until I am ready for maternity tops. None of my clothes from last pregnancy will work this time around, totally different work atmosphere.  :/
  • Thanks for the support ladies! I am feeling better about the pants and am shopping online right now! Hoping for good deals.

Another question: for those of you who used a pump on previous pregnancies, did you get a new pump (insurance covered) for your next pregnancy? Ive heard insurance covers in full a pump for each pregnancy....I used the crap out of my last pump and it still works but I wonder if it will be worn out and if i should plan to get a new one (especially if Im going to be using it more). Thoughts?

  • @Jyoung327 I only got a new pump because there was a better one that I wanted. First time I had a Freestyle and the second Spectra. I loved the Spectra and will use it again!! Can’t hurt to get he new one if it’s free though!
  • @Bear14+  Thats what Im thinking too if its free but it was just a hassle to go get it......minor inconvenience really....I think my insurance will only cover the medella but i was really happy with it. otherwise i was just gonna get new membranes and tubing off amazon

  • @Jyoung327 I plan to get a new pump. I'm thinking about leaving my new 1 at work and keeping the old at home  (since I won't be pumping much there). Last time around I forgot parts and such occasionally and nope, not again. I am going to buy the spectra and let the insurance co reimburse me for what would be the cost of the PISA.
  • @Jyoung327 - I plan to get a new one. I pumped at work for a year so my current one has been used a lot. I'll get a new one and save the old one in case anything goes wrong with the new one.

  • @Jyoung327 it depends on your insurance coverage as plan. Some will cover one pump every 36 months, etc. you need to call your insurance to see what they cover.
  • @Jyoung327 I'm not embarrassed to say that i never completely put my maternity pants away  :p.

I also plan to get a new pump. I EPed last time so it worked hard. I just font know if I'll get another PISA or switch to spectra. It'd be nice if dont need to get new parts.
  • First pregnancy I started with maternity pants at 8 or 9 weeks I think. This time I started at almost 6 weeks...

  • I got 2 pumps last time, 1 from insurance and one off my registry. I’ll get new parts for the PISA which I bring to work. The Ameda one I get through insurance seems to be a little worn so it’s nice to have one at home too.
  • Does anyone have any advice on stomach issues in the first trimester? I am having saver diarhea. Can I take immodium?
  • @franklynns that would be a good question for the doctor. Can you email or call your office? I hope you feel better soon, stay hydrated!
  • @franklynns I would contact your doctor with that question/concern. If it's severe you're at risk of becoming dehydrated, I'd put a call into your OB and see how they want you to handle it and possibly figure out the cause. I'd get some Gatorade or Powerade on board to counteract dehydration.
  • Thanks! I called once they opened this morning. BRAT diet and if no improvement in 12 hours the 2 immodium.
  • @baby3ob I know this is a bit late, but it can be normal. The blood can cause cramping, and there are plenty of benign cases of bleeding in early pregnancy. FX it goes away!

@young327 I'll probably just use the one I have and get a new one only if it dies. I'll get new membranes and tubing. It would be nice to have one at home and one you can leave at work or in your car or whatever. I had a manual pump that I kept in my purse just in case I forgot to bring my pump to/from work. Having two electric ones might be even better, especially if you weren't a fan of the last one you used and can get something different. Also, my pump was a closed system, so I know that nothing has been sitting gunked up inside of it. I'd almost definitely want a new one if it wasn't.

If you do/did and will use it, take advantage of that insurance benefit. There's no reason to make pumping more of a hassle than it already is.

FWIW, I had a Hygeia and would definitely get one again. This is probably more of a discussion for a later date, but oh well. I don't hear about them as often, and not all insurance companies offer them, but they have some nice features. Separate speed and strength is great, I think the Spectra does this, too, at least one/some of the models. It's been almost 4 years, though, so I don't really know about other new pumps.

  • @treeofcheem - I have a Spectra S2 and yes it does do separate speed and suction strength too

  • Re: pumps, I’ve heard really none of the non-hospital grade ones are built to last more than a year or so of heavy use. The motor wears down over time. I would imagine if you used one only occasionally it would be fine to reuse. I’ve worked my two pumps hard (one I got free and one I bought on clearance to have at work), and fully plan on getting a new one this go round. My insurance covers the PISA and it worked fine for me.
