A Week for Randoms (1/15)

Re: A Week for Randoms (1/15)

  • I have no idea where my placenta is since I haven't had a legitimate Dr appointment since November, but I'm starting to think that I'll be joining the anterior club. I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow and literally no movement. Although I thought I might've felt something the other night while watching Harry Potter, it wasn't enough for me to be sure. Finally have my a/s scheduled for February 8th, but hopefully I'm feeling movement by then.

  • Also anterior placenta! I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and for the past week or so, I've been feeling movement at least once a day and usually in the afternoon so it's getting more consistent.

@doxiemoxie212 With DD, I only had two ultrasounds my entire pregnancy (one at 8 weeks to confirm pregnancy and my A/S at 20 weeks) so I never really confirmed the type of movement via ultrasound. DD had hiccups ALL THE TIME, especially toward the end. That movement felt like I had an eye twitch or a muscle twitch in my belly and would last 5-10 minutes. To this day, DD still gets hiccups really easily, especially if she is laughing really hard.

  • @doxiemoxie212 It's a little harder to tell when they're still this small, and even when they get bigger sometimes, because they can move around a lot. I can't remember exactly when I started feeling hiccups, but I could totally tell when they would go on hiccuping jags. When they got bigger, my whole stomach would reverberate.
  • I'm assuming I'm also team anterior placenta but I haven't confirmed it yet - I'll be able to do so today at my a/s.  I think I've felt some movements these past few days.  They are always in the same spot - my lower left abdomen, and I'll see if the tech can confirm that today.  It's so strange, my lower tummy area feels hard on the most left side and gets pudgy as I move over to the right (no rock hard abs over here).  Anyone else's like that?  It's kind of where I feel the "movements" so I'm wondering if it's where the baby is camped out.  I don't have a round bump yet either so everything is still invisible to me!  Regardless I'll find out in a few hours.
  • @doxiemoxie212 you’ll def be able to tell the different between kicks and hiccups. DD had them alllll the time. It’s bizarre lol definitely couldn’t feel them until later on either.

  • @kfren @harveyabbey77 @sunshineandwhiskey I feel movement nearly 24/7 at this point (20+4; posterior placenta). I have some suspicions that certain movements are hiccups because they're sort of to a rhythm (and at all my previous ultrasounds, which admittedly were a while ago -- 12 or 14 weeks, I think? -- she has had the hiccups). She also does this flipping thing where basically a tennis ball sticks out of a small part of my stomach for 10-15 seconds, then goes away. She's so small, I'm really curious what on earth she could be doing to cause that. I'm hoping I get to see at the anatomy scan later today lol. I think she's just starting to actually kick; I'll get like a bop bop bop in one spot, and then it'll end or move to another place.
  • @doxiemoxie212 Babes was punching and kicking exactly where the wand was during our scan!  I felt it and then saw on the screen what he was doing - so awesome.  I could also tell when he'd move his body/roll around too by a different 'pressure' feeling.  It wasn't necessarily jabs or pokes but kind of like @icecubeinthedesert said like a ball rolling or a cramplike feeling or like my bladder was really full.

It was the most action I've felt this go 'round so it was really fun to be able to see exactly what he was doing in there.  And I didn't even have any sugary drinks, just my regular morning coffee at 7:00 am.   He just really didn't like to be pressed that hard!  haha

  • @doxiemoxie212 DD did that tennis ball thing and then later I could see her whole foot kicking out. It was super weird/cool. My guess on the tennis ball thing was her butt or head. I swear she never stopped moving. She used to always do this log roll thing when I was driving home from work and it would make me feel so sea sick. With this little guy, I could see and feel kicks during my a/s on Monday. He was pretty annoyed with the ultrasound tech pushing on him.

Later you will know for sure they are hiccups. DD used to get them while i was in meetings. Very distracting. And would have them 3-4 times a day. Even after she was born, she was super prone to hiccups... Always went away. Weirdly, we will go through a number of months with no hiccups now, (2yo) and then 3-4 days of them.  I wonder if it is tied to growth spurts...

Now this pregnancy, we haven't seen sight of hiccups, where as with DD she had them every scan.

  • @doxiemoxie212 - the bigger the babe gets the more you get to learn patterns and kind of start building that motherly bond of knowing her movements and patterns and what she is doing in there.  Eventually you'll likely be able to tell from touching your stomach where her head vs legs are, kicks vs hiccups, etc.  Every baby is dif too.  At my a/s the tech noted that mine is very sensitive to my movement...we needed her to stretch out (she liked being curled up) to get a better look at her spine so the tech had me roll to my side and she immediately readjusted where not all babies do.  She flipped 3 or 4 times during the scan so tons of movement.
  • @patientlywaiting10 he's 5. so he 'gets' that he's in there and hugs my belly. even took him to a scan. but to feel those kicks would be everything to him.

@doxiemoxie212 you sorta can tell. the tech at my last scan told me where exactly his feet were at and where his head was at etc. so now I know its his feet kicking way down below. you'll know hiccups cause they're be pretty consistent, rhythmic almost.

  • @PatientlyWaiting10 she hates being pressed on! She bops at my jeans or a seatbelt or if I accidentally lean against a counter or something. She hangs out low, though, so it’s sort of unavoidable.
  • @krashke I wouldn't worry about snacks or caffeine ahead of time. If baby's too comfy you can turn on your side or drink cold water during the actual scan. (Maybe bring a water bottle with ice cubes.)

Re. maternity pants: mine sag til the end even when my belly's huge. I have Old Navy full panel skinnies. My butt looks terrible in them. Le sigh.
  • It sounds like we need to...wait for it...band together (ha!) and create maternity jeans specifically for ladies with minimal posteriors. I dream of the day when I can walk more than a few feet and not have to yank these bad boys up.

  • I have 1 pair of ON full panel skinnies and a few pairs from motherhood, both LED and Jess Simpson brands...the ON ones are def the most saggy.  I usually wear my jeans a few times before washing but I have to wash after almost every wear right now to get them to tighten up a bit.

Maybe a weird question/thought.  My mom basically bought a new wardrobe for me with mat clothes when I was preg with my 1st (she was so damn excited, lol).  A lot of the clothes are nicer than my reg wardrobe and I genuinely really like the shirts and the fabric is so nice.  This is for sure my last baby...is having mat shirts altered to not be maternity anymore a thing??  Would it be crazy or do I just say I liked the shirts while I had them and go buy new nice regular stuff?

  • @kmurdock925 IDK if it's a thing but it's probably doable depending on the style of the shirt. Akternatively you could consign them since they're nice and start investing in a nice post-pregnancy wardrobe.
  • @kmurdock925 I don't think that's a crazy idea! If you like them, keep them! I've bought like 4-5 tops from PinkBlush this pregnancy that don't really look super "maternity" like that I'll probably keep wearing post partum depending on what kind of shape they're in. I'm a plus size mama so they don't look all that different than what I'd wear from the plus department.

  • @llamamama14 - that is a good point.  I guess I should wait to see how good of condition they're in too by the end of this pregnancy being that they get worn so much more often and therefore washed a lot.

@harveyabbey77 - I tried to keep wearing them after my 1st was born and they just looked/felt ridiculous- I think because of the style/cut.  I think the gathering on the sides and extra fabric in belly area just didn't sit right...shrugs...I was super disappointed.

  • I had an anterior placenta at ~12 weeks, but I'm assuming it's moved up as my uterus has grown.
I've felt movements since 16 weeks, but mostly lower where his feet are curled up near my cervix.

  • I don't know what my placenta is - it has never been mentioned. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm definitely going to ask at my a/s, though.

I haven't felt any movements, but I swear I saw something in the mirror the other night. I was just studying my stomach, trying to decide if I might have a bump or if I'm bloated...ya know, the usual. And I saw the right side of my stomach push out for just a moment. Oddly, I didn't feel anything though, so maybe I just imagined it.

@kmurdock925 If your tailor thinks they can be altered, why not go for it?? If you decide to sell, as others have suggested, I  use thredup.com, which is like an online consignment shop. They take maternity clothes and are usually asking for them.

    Looking for recs:
I'm in Philadelphia today and tomorrow for work. Anybody around this area have a good suggestion for dinner tonight? I think the area I'm staying in is called "Central Philadelphia".

  • @LaceyBee522 the Pack Your Knives podcast (talks about Top Chef) just did an ep with a ton of philly restaurant recos. I strongly recommend a listen!

re: mat jeans..... I love mine. I splurged and got a pair of Paige and J Brand (on sale!), and I love love love them. I will certainly wear them not pregnant lol. They’re v cute, super soft and stretchy, stay up, etc. Can’t say enough good things. Plus if they’re like my other Paige and J Brand jeans, they’ll last forever.
  • @doxiemoxie212 Thanks! I watch Top Chef, but didn't know about that podcast. I will start listening!

  • @doxiemoxie212 the scans never gave me a clear this is what certain movements feel like for me- but over time you just know when it's a kick or hiccup.  I believe at this point we are all in the stage where LOs bones are starting to become bone vs cartilage and that is when kicks are felt by others.  Once that happens you are able to start to feel a bit more power behind the kicks and punches... I also kind of remember hiccups being just as annoying for me when DD had them as they were when I had them (but I thought that after she was born too).

  • @doxiemoxie212 the first I remember feeling hiccups with DD was 26 weeks. It was the same type or quality of movement as what I had been feeling for kicks and punches, but rhythmic. To tell the truth I was freaked the f out the first time because I had no idea what it was, since it felt so similar I thought she was having some kind of spasm or seizure (lol mom brain/nurse brain). It took me a couple of minutes before I realized what it was. Duh.  :|

  • jsl82            yes to them being legit bones now and not cartilage.  I actually asked the US tech at my A/S about that (I was 18+5) and she said yes, they are solid bones and from here on out they will just continue to build calcium.  You can tell they are bones in the US because they show as bright white.  As more calcium builds they will begin to look a little more grey.

Anyone have any interest in a baby-related book club? I was thinking we could start by having a thread where everyone suggests books related to pregnancy, birth or parenting, and then the last week of every month, we have a poll with all (remaining) books and whichever gets the most votes is the book for the next month, and then we have a thread dedicated to that book where we discuss it? Is that crazy?

ETA: I'm envisioning books like Bringing Up Bebe or Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, not very very long text book type books, lol.

  • @PatientlyWaiting10 my ultrasound tech must agree with you then because for some reason she gave us like 2-3 profile shots and then a bbbunnncchh of pics of baby's foot...? Like literally just the same foot (with the toes, obv).
