You guys are sweet. DD is far more excited for my birthday than I am. She wants to make sure I have a cake, candles, and a hat. She has been telling me happy birthday for 2 weeks already.
@sabby2 Happy early birthday! Are up doing anything fun to celebrate? I've already told MH that our 30th birthdays are probably going to be sitting on a couch. His birthday is 11 days after my due date, they could end up sharing a birthday, and mine is 2 months after.
@catlady1215 I have been dreaming about Half Baked since you mentioned it! I am saving it for 20 weeks, those two weeks can't come soon enough!
AFM...the other company that we share a building with has off for MLK day but we do not. It is dead around here. The cat was an asshole again last night. I'm already looking forward to sleeping in this weekend. I am taking full advantage of the days I can sleep in before the baby arrives.
ETA: props to @izza2 for getting all of our weekly threads started today! Thanks girl!

@Amphibious22 Me! Me me me I have had it on repeat for like a week. I was going to post about it last week but I didn't because I thought noone would be as obsessed about it as I am But it is SO good. And the movie is awesome. I had to beg DH to see it with me and he was all against going but he said he thought it was pretty good too. Winner!
@becca_123 I'm glad I'm not alone!! I've been humming rewrite the stars all day at work. And kudos to getting YH to go. Mine still hasn't forgiven me for making him see Les mis.

AFM, I’m off today, my son is at daycare, and I’m eating dark chocolate covered raisins under a blanket on my couch. Bless this day, which I really needed after spending all weekend prepping for/throwing my son’s 1st birthday party. It was WONDERFUL (and despite my reservations, the cake smashing was delightful), but mama needs a rest, man.

@MoonOverGoldsboro enjoy your day mama! We all deserve those kind of days. I eat a nice sized bowl of ice cream every night. I measured it on a food scale once. Turns out I eat about 2.5 servings per serving. My current flavor is Breyers Extra Creamy Natural Vanilla. I rotate back and forth between the more exciting flavors and plain vanilla. Something about those flecks of vanilla bean makes me love it. I figure if I'm eating carrots and hummus, Greek yogurt, etc for my other snacks of the day, I can afford some ice cream. We will see what the doctors scale says about that next week.
Holding out for the Ben and Jerry's at 20 weeks. I'm going for Tonight Dough as my flavor.
I'm having trouble remembering what day of the week it is today for some reason. Today feels like a Tuesday, but I have to remind myself it's Monday. Maybe I'm just too excited/anxious for the a/s on Wednesday that I wish it was tomorrow instead.

granted our babies can come at anytime but I honestly think June is probably the perfect month to have a birthday. Its close enough to school getting out to where you can still celebrate with school friends (but at the same time if you don't want to invite people from school its late enough in the year where it doesn't matter), warm weather so outdoor party options like pool & beach parties (something I never had with a Feb. birthday), there are no holidays to overshadow you birthday, except maybe Father's Day but that's on a Sunday.
@ffw0617 I just saw a post on a local mom's blog where a reader was asking for advice if she could host her child's birthday party at a venue that required admission, that she couldn't afford to cover the cost of for all the guests, so she would have guests pay the $10 to get in and not ask for gifts. Someone in the comments brought up that it is so hard to host a birthday party in the winter here because you have to do it inside either at your house or at a venue and the venues are so expensive. I never even thought of that but another reason June birthdays are great. Birthday parties can be at a park or in the back yard and just let the kids run all the sugar off!

@ffw0617 I totally agree on the June birthday's being great! DD's birthday is at the end of October and I always struggle to find new low cost ways to host a fun birthday, especially now that she's at the age where she has friends from school that she wants to invite! This past year, we hosted two of her friends at the indoor trampoline park and then had a separate family party with her cousins, my parents and the in-laws at our house.
@kraske oh man that's hard, esp when kids go to these amazing birthday parties nowadays and want the same thing.
Personally I'll be doing something small and low key at home the first 2 birthdays for sure. The first year kids have no idea what's going on, by 2 they still barely realize that the day is significant. Keep it as cheap as possible for as long as possible. Because it def changes once they get to school. My godson's mom spends a ridiculous amount (IMO) on my godson's birthday parties. Extravagant cakes and cup cakes, gift bags, and the venue is always pricey per child. And now that my godson plays football he has football friends, school friends, church friends, neighborhood friends. No less than 20 kids (usually closer to 30). In recent years he had the Mad Science Museum, Skating Rink, Go Cart Track, Indoor Trampoline Park.
I think I have anterior placenta. I remember feeling so many more movements with dd by this point. It kind of bums me out since that is one of the only parts of being pregnant that I enjoy. I'm just whining over here, but I tend to not enjoy being pregnant (lots of morning sickness, my hips and back already hurt like cray, having heartburn every night for a couple weeks now, headaches like every other day it seems like) but feeling those kicks makes it worth it (and obviously a healthy baby at the end).
June birthdays are great! I’m a June baby, DS is June 4, and this one is Due June 5!
STM - Talk to me about telling older siblings what you’re having. I want to tell DD in a creative fun way so I want to hear what you’re doing!

Eeks. My plan is to fight the extravagant birthday trend. We'll see. Oldest is 3 and we've kept it low key so far. He's a November b-day so outdoor may be tricky.
@sabby2 Sorry. No judgement. Being pregnant can be a real %ish show. The kicks are a fun part.
@PatientlyWaiting10 - We didn't do anything cutesy when we told DSS last night. But he's also 9. He already wanted a brother, so we asked him what he thought the baby was, and he instantly said boy. That was pretty much the end of that, lmao.
If we were more patient or creative I could've gotten a cupcake for him to eat and find out the sex or something, but we're one big impatient family over here, lol.
@sabby2 I’m just starting to feel kicks. I have an anterior placenta and I’ve been looking forward to the feeling those little feet. Since this is my third, I was expecting to feel them sooner.
I keep a tub of Neapolitan ice cream in the freezer!
My random: the baby is already blocking lol. He/she hung out super low yesterday. I finally felt up to doing the deed with DH and I got so crampy bc baby was in the weirdest position lol. Needless to say the romance was ruined. Poor hubby!
@sabby2 HBD. I felt the same way turning the corner into 30, and then my mind magically reset and I stopped feeling like an old 20-something and started living life as a young 30-something. As everyone else has said, 30s are the best
Our rule growing up was that you got one "fancy" birthday party for each school stage - so one for elementary, one for middle school and one in high school. The rest of the birthdays were dinner and cake with family at home. As another June birthday (holllaaa), I went pool party for my first two parties and did a small hotel sleepover for the last. It was my parents' way of making sure we didn't entirely miss out on the birthday party craze but keeping things more affordable.
Also, I just told MH that Ben and Jerry's at 20 weeks is an official thing, like a baby moon. Totally bought it.
You guys kept talking about ice cream so I bought half baked yesterday and it was the best decision. I also bought MH fish food (ew!) so he wouldn't get jealous.
As for birthdays - we never really do anything fancy for DSS. He usually just says he wants his birthday party at home and tells us what he wants food-wise (this year was lasagna). It'll be the same for this LO, but we won't be going extravagant anything until he's at least old enough to remember.
For bday parties we do a family party with immediate families each year and DD started a small friend party at our house when she was in kindergarten. She can invite 6 friends, we play a game, open gifts, then they just play. She’s at the end of March so some years, like last year, it's really nice, and some years it's not. Growing up I could do the same thing; have a few friends over and we usually went to the lake or something then sometimes had a sleepover. Bless my moms heart for allowing us to do that. I don't know if I'll ever be ready for sleepovers...
@emiliadkay I love it that your hubby went for it!!

"Dear Lord, I would have loved to have held my babies on my lap & tell them about you, but since I didn't get the chance, would you please hold them on your lap & tell them about me?" All are welcome!
I'm a FTM mom, so I don't have experience with birthdays for my own kids yet, but I am an August baby so I always had summer parties in the backyard. I'm sure they still ended up costing my parents an arm and a leg in food because my family is 50+ people. I don't remember too many kid parties besides one at a bowling alley or something but I was always the kind of kid that had like 2 or 3 really close friends that just came to the family party instead. Was never a social butterfly. I think I would dread kid parties as a kid, actually.
My most memorable back yard parties were my 5th birthday and my 30th. I know, no longer a kid, but may as well have been. My 5th, my parents had a pig roast. Kinda nasty but it was a pretty big event nonetheless and it sticks out in my mind. My 30th was a combination of my parents throwing it at my own house/combination house warming party bc I had bought my first house the summer before. They did everything. Food, a tent...bc August is hot as isht. But I decided to rent one of those huge expensive blow up waterslides. I figured you only turn 30 once, my best friend was in from out of town, there were kids and adults so I bit the bullet and spent the $350. It was the best money I have ever spent on an event. The kids had a blast during the day while it was super hot and the adults got going after a few adult beverages in the evening. The 30 year olds and the 60 year olds were climbing up (btw, not easy when you're tipsy. Also possibly a health hazard. I was covered in bruises the next day) BUT I have some amazing videos and memories.
