Now that I know it's a girl I am working on girl names. I am really liking Evelyn (nickname Evie) but worry that it's not at all East European (my background). If my sons had been girls they would have been Mila and Sofia but I am off those names now. Other names I suggested that DH shot down have included Maya, Adeline, and Lila.
@alinafed I LOVE Evie as a name, but we’re a big Pokémon family and I can’t because of eevee lol. Same problem with Asher. Love the name but know we’ll call him Ash haha

@alinafed Evelyn (nickname Eve) was our top girl choice last pregnancy but we had a DS. DH wants to keep it as top choice again for #2 but I am not sure. Love the name still but I feel like its tied to DS now haha
@kindbytealikat - we downloaded the app to swipe left / right last night and it's so much fun! We matched on a few so it's awesome to have a good starting point this time around. We both like Carson for a boy and Annabelle for a girl.
What app is that??

So DH suggested Matilda, and the more I think about it, the more I like it. But last night we were talking and he said he would spell it Mathilda. Which seems weird to me. People would pronounce the 'th.' But he said Matilda without the 'h' seems weird to him, and sure enough, we looked it up online and the historical name is Mathilda and "Matilda" (no 'h') is an "alternative spelling."
@vinerie I like it without the h, but thats probably because it is how I've seen it most because of the Roald Dahl book/movie! Cute name!
I like Alice for girl, Isaac for boy. My husband loves Annie but I can't figure out if we should name her Anne/Ann and then just call her Annie or actually name her Annie. He also likes Jacob but its a little too popular for me I think.

Awww I have an Isaac! His name was a struggle and was like 29 on each of our lists but he is the easiest sweetest boy you’ll ever meet
Are people finally over the Aiden/Caden/Jayden/Hayden/Aayden/Braydon names? I feel like for the past 10 years or so those have accounted for roughly half of all boys born.

Guilty. We had an Aiden in 2016. But in my defense (not that I need it!), I had the name picked out 13+ years ago, before I ever met my husband. We seem to be behind the curve though. The bulk of them at his daycare are in the 4-5 year old room. It was the only name that I didn't care was "popular"... all our girls name I vetoed due to popularity though haha

Love the name Aiden and never viewed it as trendy as its it's an Irish name that I've known forever. The other ones seem so trendy that I can't put them in the same category. NMS at all.
@derbysquirrel in five years of teaching, I've taught a Jayden/Kayden/Aiden every year. My fourth grade after school group has four Aidens- I've known them all since kindergarten, so I call them 1, 2, 3, and 4. This year I have a Kayden. His older brother is Jayden.

We don’t yet know the sex, but for a boy I like Jude, Julian or Callum. For a girl, I love Rosalie and Vivian, but DH doesn’t. We will really struggle to agree on girl names.
Our boys are Mikel and Roman. Mikel is not a cre8ive spelling of Michael, it’s pronounced like it looks. Sort of rhymes with “Michelle” at least that’s the easiest way to explain it.

I love Jude and Vivian, also! DH is kind of 'eh' on both of them though

What do you think on the spelling with the 'h'?
I live off of a busy street named Mathilda and everyone pronounces it with the 'h'. Obviously this is not the same as an actual human but, food for thought.
Agree with @msmonalisavito. I personally don't like it, but if it's something you feel strongly about, you could always just mention it to your friend and tell her that you've been wanting to use Shaylin for years. Or, if it's not a close friend, I wouldn't even bother doing that.
Also in the not liking Shaylin group BUT this is why I never tell anyone what I'm naming my kids, I don't care what anyone else's opinion is and people are less likely to tell you how much they hate a name if you've already put it on a birth certificate.
We have a Zooey and if this one is a boy it'd for sure Henry (after DH's grandpa) ... if it's another girl we like Lily as a family and I personally love Isla or Penelope but I don't think hubby would pick those lol
I actually really like Shaylin @lollypop2015. I was a teacher and there was a really sweet Shaylin at the school I taught at.
I tell people my names but I don’t ask their opinions because all that matters to me is that DH & I like it. My husband is the hardest person to pick a name with and we didn’t name our son until he was born. We will most likely do the same with this one.
I don't hate the Aiden/Jaden/Kayden names, but they were so common recently that I was hoping they would start to taper off. My son (if I have one) will have a very common name (William) because it is my father's name. I don't hate names simply because they are popular, but the rhyming -ayden names really made it seem like they were everywhere since they were all so popular and similar sounding. At least Billiam, Cilliam, and Jilliam aren't also top 50 baby names!

DH is really stuck ob having a Hebrew name for the baby, but not any of the Hebrew names I like for a boy (I want Aaron, he's still insisting on Michael, and I really don't want to use Michael).
I really don't like any Hebrew girls names. Eliana is probably my favorite, if I had to pick, but since both my name and DH's name start with E, I'd like to stay away from E names. Liana is okay too, but my niece is going to be Leila and I feel like they're too close together. I would be okay with Miriam (with Midge as the nickname), but that's his grandmother's name, and we'll name for her after she dies (not being morbid- she's 102! And she always tells us to name for her after she's dead).
I'm so frustrated I want to scream. This kid is going to end up nameless.

@hardlyhannah that was our name inspiration! And we would use the name now, except it's literally not kosher- you're not supposed to name after someone living.

That is interesting. Is it because it is considered bad luck?
@ssthomps it's all superstition. The superstition is that you don't give same name as a family member because when the angel of death comes to take the old person, you don't want them to accidentally take the baby. Super morbid, like most of our superstitions.
That's why I don't want to use DH's top boy name pick (Michael), because that's my uncle's name.

That said, Miriam is such a lovely and unusual (conventionally speaking) name it's a shame it's verboten at the moment.
