Glucose Test

Re: Glucose Test

  • I took the glucose test and the drink wasn't too bad. I'm passed the test so I'm happy about that.

  • @peppersmith22 @tooraloorah Thanks ladies. I think today has been the first day where i felt back to normal. I just packed in a lot of protein the last few days and it seems to have helped.
  • Well, took my one hour yesterday and failed by three points. I was so hopeful too! Now I get to go in next week sometime and sit through the three hour testing. The drink wasn’t horrible. Kind of like crunchy koolaid. The worst part was being hungry and having the feeling of a sugar rush from it. I had been on a Starburst kick the previous week, which I feel contributed to those three extra points. Grr. Slowed down on the sugar candies now. We will see how this next testing goes.
  • Tuesday at 9 am I’ll be 25+2 weeks and have my glucose screening. My obgyn sent me home with the clear fruit punch flavor and said to chill it and drink it on ice and come in for my blood to be drawn. I always get queezy after too much sugar so definitely not excited for this one ☝️
  • Do you ladies know if you can drink water before, during and after finishing this glucola gag drink?

    Best of luck!!! @dubnug
  • @srose2917 before you can. My guide said nothing to eat or drink during or after. Sorry :-/ Hopefully you'll only have to do it this once!
  • @srose2917 what @nessa1632 said. Water before is ok, but once you start the drink you have to finish it within 5 minutes. No water during or after as that would totally defeat its purpose.
  • @srose2917 I was able to drink water afterwards while I waited. Just nothing else.
  • @srose2917 I was told no water or anything after the drink

  • @srose2917 i couldn't drink anything after drinking the glucose drink at least during the 1 hour.  With the 3 hour I was allowed to have just water.

@srose2917 @Dumbgurl04 Maybe thats what the difference was. I have only taken the 2 hour and I was allowed to have water.
  • @srose2917 I can't have water from when I drink the stuff until after the blood draw. My doc then advised me to bring a snack and water for after.
  • @kaymaroo that is AWESOME news

  • Well, I took my 1 hour last week and failed, so I'll be going back this week for the 3 hour - just need to call and schedule. I'm feeling unreasonably disappointed by this... ugh.

  • @hedgepig I'm sorry! Its ok hopefully you'll pass 3 hour okay. I failed the 1 hour with my 2nd but passed the 3 hour. It sucks but hopefully goes smoothly for you.
  • I’m sitting in the waiting room while my hour counts down. I feel like I have some heartburn starting, WTF. How long do results take usually? I have a horrible sweet tooth, so I’m a little worried honestly. I am looking forward to stopping at the coffee shop after they draw blood.

  • @hedgepig I'm sorry, that is so disappointing! I felt the same way when I failed the 1-hour. Fingers crossed that the second test goes better for you!

  • @hedgepig I'm sorry, it's no fun hearing you failed on this test.  There is hope that you can still pass the 3 hour though.  FX that you pass.

  • I can see my results online... I am in normal range (3 from top limit lol)! Unfortunately, my hemoglobin is LOW. Bottom of range is 11.7 and mine was 9.8. It was barely in range in September.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @g_amoss from what I have read there are different ranges for red blood cells, hemaglobin etc. in pregnancy that are considered normal than in a non-pregnant female, yet the tests are reported with the ranges for non-pregnant women. So you might be fine, but it wouldn't be supriz in for you to be anemic what with the twins. Mine were reported as low, but when I looked up the ranges for pregnant women I was well with in the average range. This website was helpful https://perinatology.com/Reference/Reference Ranges/Hemoglobin.htm

  • Took my one hour today. 15 minutes after my blood draw I got light headed. Damn my blood sugar dropping after I get my blood drawn. Every time this happens! I feel so lame.

I logged onto my patient portal and my results aren’t posted yet. Grrrr the suspense.
  • @linds0503 - thank you! I am at the bottom according to that, but still in  :D  I’ll work on more foods with iron vs. supplements anyway.

    @angiek1 - sorry you can’t see results yet - fx you’re good!

  • Went for my three hour today. Was so tired but drug myself up there. Guzzled the drink and waited. Got a bit nauseas during the wait. Sugar rush on an empty stomach. Woo! Luckily I passed the first two draws and didn’t have to wait for the third. Came home and started eating. Did some light chores around the house but tried to take it easy mostly. We are almost through this ladies! On to the next challenge. Haha
  • I personally did not mind the orange drink at all. Tasted like flat fanta and i love sugar and hate carbonated drinks so it wasnt bad for me. Only complaint is around the one hour mark I started feeling a major sugar crash.
  • For all the borderline anemic ladies: my mom and grandma both tend toward anemia, and my grandma manages hers (in part) by snacking on dry Cheerios. The plain ones have a ton of iron (50% of your daily value in one cup), but are apparently much easier to digest than an iron supplement. Eating them with milk apparently limits the iron absorption.

I’m waiting on my GD test and blood count results from my test yesterday. I read the paper they gave me with it and apparently it takes 3 to 5 days for results?? Seems kind of long compared to everyone else.  :/

  • @lindsye - maybe the 3-5 days is how long it takes before results are reviewed? I just have raw numbers and ranges on my patient portal. Doc could tell me tomorrow that I have to do 3 hour glucose test. Good to know about the dry cheerios! I generally think I eat nutritious food, but being pg obviously takes a lot out of a gal.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @g_amoss yes I think I will get a call quickly if it’s bad news and an email saying I have results to review in several days if it’s good news. Congrats on passing yours!

Regarding the anemia thing, at least part of it must be genetic. As I said, both my mom and grandma have always struggled with it; what I didn’t mention is that both of them eat really well and are in excellent shape. I, meanwhile, eat ok (but not fantastically), rarely have time to exercise at this point but for whatever reason have never had a problem with it (knock on wood). I know a whole lot of people get mild anemia with pregnancy, though - it definitely takes a lot out of your body, especially making twins!!

  • @kaymaroo sometimes I wonder why even bother doing the 1 hour if most women fail it.  Just have everyone do the 3 hour.

  • @Dumbgurl04 @kaymaroo This is why my dr office only does the 2 hour. Basically you take it, if you fail, you fail, there is no 3 hour.
  • Well I failed the 1 hour. Ugh! So have to go in for 3 hour. I failed it at 144 so not horrific. Hopefully pass the 3 hour with everyone else!

Interesting they said I'm borderline anemic too. They want me to start supplements but think I'll try adjusting diet first.

I'm settling in for my 3 hour - I was so worried about being hungry, but that hasn't been a problem for me. I am, however, insanely thirsty. Like, I didn't sleep hardly at all last night for how thirsty I was. And I got up early to drive an hour to be at the hospital and registered when the lab opened at 6:30 am, but they were slow opening the lab and getting going, and now it's 7 am and I still haven't done my initial draw. Grrrr, I definitely won't make it to work on time now.....
Edit: oooh, the 3-hour drink is way worse than the 1-hour. :astonished:
