  • @wildtot hate that! I got outed with my first by my SIL. I wasn't mad at her, but I wasn't ready to announce either
  • Yeah i snap shot the comment to DH who happens to be walking with my SIL and i guess she is gonna try to delete the comment. Not mad at her but gosh people need to chill on announcing for others. My cousin did that to me when we got engaged.
  • @wildtot OH HELL NO

@Crystal321 I’m so sorry! That’s the absolute worst!
  • @wildtot noooo why did he do that?? @Crystal321 I know the hair struggle all too well, I've cried many times after a haircut gone wrong!
@amylu914 one of the nice things about our taxes indeed! We were considering moving to Texas for a while last year and I did some research, they don't have any of those benefits (though of course cost of living is still lower and my in laws are there, hehe).
@TheQuietThings we are also brainstorming- mostly about how to set up a nursery/mini office for me!

Speaking of haircuts...I have a silly FTM question. I have long hair and it's growing fabulously during pregnancy. I am planning to rock it until around the time baby is due. Any advice in terms of what is easier with the baby, long or short hair? I love my long hair but I also miss my bob. I detest drying my hair and now with the "cold" (aka 60f) I have to dry it and it's sooooooooo annoying to me.

I figured short hair would be practical once the baby is here, especially because I am prepared to lose some of it postpartum...I have thick hair and a lot of it so hopefully it won't look too bad but who knows. I know long hair can be pulled up and back though, and it can air dry in the summer. I'm sure it's subjective, but I'm interested in hearing some STM's thoughts :)TIA!
  • @wildtot I would be livid!

@kissableviv I kept my hair long only because I hate short hair on me. I lost a *ton* post partum but i never ended up with bald spots or thin patches like I’ve heard some people get. I usually leave it down (dry shampoo and I are BFFs) or I’ll throw it up in a messy bun if it’s driving me crazy. Totally personal preference though! Random fact, one of my twins loooooves to play with hair to fall asleep, he’ll play with his own, or mine/DHs...anyone’s he can get ahold of when we’re giving his last cup of milk before bed lol

  • I have been having some major health scare stuff happening to me this past week to the point that I was convinced that something was extremely wrong. Being diabetic, I expected my insulin resistance to increase in the second trimester and instead the day I turned 14 weeks I started to experience extreme lows with blood sugar and had to discontinue all of my insulin. My doctor had previously mentioned that this could be a viability problem or placenta problem if it were to happen, so I immediately thought the Worst. My blood sugar was 72 after eating huge plates of carbs, which for me is normally something that would put me in the 200s. I spoke to my doctors on Friday and was basically thinking I’d be going in on Tuesday to see that everything was no longer viable, but my doctor mentioned to stay off my medications and see what happens... THANKFULLY the blood sugar started to slowly rise over the past two days. We now think it was the addition of metformin to my regimen 3 weeks ago that made my sugars so low. I am so relieved and thankful at this point and actually feel modestly excited for my ultrasound on Tuesday.
  • @hayhay93 glad you guys figured out what might have been wrong and things are improving!

@kissableviv I kept my hair long and throw it into a bun most days. I do know people who got sick of having that be their go to and went short just so they would have to do something with their hair everyday and not look frumpy.

AFM, I got online to check the syllabus for one of my classes this semester and I knew we had to read one of our books before the first class i just wanted to see which one (its january 20, they aren't terribly long). The class site went up Tuesday, 1/2, and and the syllabus seems to imply a 15 page paper (really multiple separate questions being answered as a take home essay test, with the expectation of 15 pages total written) is due day 1. That gives us 18 days to write 15 pages. That seems like, super short notice! I obviously put it off so it doesn't matter to me either way, but having that be the expectation for everyone seems crazy! I bet there are people freaking out that they have to write that as well as read the book over the next few weeks.
  • @Crystal321 I went in with shoulder length hair last year for a trim and ended up with a bob that came up to my chin. If I were you, I would call and ask for my money back. That is ridiculous.
  • @SmashJam I took online classes this past semester and I was shocked at how much work they expect people to do every week considering that most college students also have to work at the same time. Each class mentioned that you should expect to spend 6-10 hours just working in the course shell each week, not even including the homework. It took me 40 hours a week just to do 3 classes.
  • @hayhay93 yeah i am taking two classes this semester and am supposed to sign up for an internship but I dunno how I'll get teh work done for all three classes! I don't think I'll have time to "intern" this semester so I'm not sure its worth the extra work.
  • @hayhay93 glad you are okay!

  • @SmashJam that’s crazy!! Some professors don’t get that people have lives outside of school. I had one professor that actually said his class was a part time job and that college should be our full time job. Ummm sorry, I have a family to raise!

@hayhay93 I’m glad they figured out what was going on! I hope you get some sweet pictures!!

@kissableviv my hair used to be a good 6” longer than it is now. I lost a lot of hair (literal bald spots) postpartum with my son and it never quite grew back how I remember it. :'(
I wear it wavy at shoulder length now so I can wear it down without a hassle or throw it up if I need to. I have pretty thin hair so I air dry it in the house whenever I can. If you like your hair long then rock it! You could always cut it down the road if its too much of a hassle.

  • I had long hair by the end of pregnancy for both my kids but the postpartum shedding grosses me out (long hairs everywhere!) and I am a do-nothing-with-my-hair type of person so I chopped off my hair shortly after both kids were born. I am really not attached to my hair in any kind of way as long as I don't look bad wearing it. I have a face that works well for long and short hair, bangs and no bangs, so I am comfortable cutting it short and letting it grow out again.
One silly thing that used to drive me crazy tho was having my long bangs constantly fall in my eyes while nursing baby or changing diapers (looking down in general) so I make sure to have hair clips handy if I am growing them out or I do baby bangs (which work on me).

  • For me, my longer hair is easier. Just throw in a pony. Short hair requires me to wash it more, style it more, etc. But I usually always get the itch for a fresh start after birth. Then I regret it. Every time. Lol.

@kissableviv cut it so that you can keep it in a ponytail or bun and a few weeks later if that's too much, cut it off. I had a lot of swelling after my CS and would have looked ridiculous with shoulder length hair. Also imo unless you have board straight hair, shpulder length requires daily maintenance. Most days at the start I seriously couldnt find time to brush my teeth or brush my hair. I would have been miserable without the ponytail.

One lady in my mom group literally shaved her head. Tbh I was kind of envious lol
  • @Crystal321 I disagree about short hair only working for straight hair. I have wavy hair and it's so easy to just let it air dry (or pony it) and just go. There are a ton of super cute wavy styles on Pinterest.

For me, short hair takes less time to dry, less time to style if I want to, and a cute little pony if needed. But that's me cause I don't have time or energy for styling long hair, and just putting it up in buns and pony tails all the time seems like a waste to me. Why have long hair if you always put it up?

I would probably go super short like a pixie if my husband wouldn't protest.

  • @kissableviv I really liked my hair long with my first and I pretty much lived in a bun for maybe 4 years lol I have short hair now (it’s pretty wavy) and I like it because it’s easy to do. I HAVE to do it, I can’t just let it air dry and it’s too short to fit in a pony. But I like it because after having my hair up for so long it’s nice to have to do it every day. I think I’ll miss having long hair with a newborn again though.
  • @flockofmoosen3 I should have clarified, I meant too short for a ponytail. Also with my hair if it's too short and not straightened, it looks a mess. Just personal preference I guess
  • Ugh, I didn’t know that you can lose your hair postpartum. :(

    glad you’re ok @hayhay93!

@wildtot I would be so mad!
  • @wildtot that’s so awful! I’m sorry you have to announce before you’re ready. People are so used to posting their whole lives on social media it’s like they don’t even think about what they’re putting out there.

As for the hair convo, I also didn’t know you lose hair postpartum!  :s
  • @sm05-2 I have thick hair so I never had bald spots or anything, but at times when brushing (especially when wet), it would come out in clumps.
  • I’ve always liked my hair long and i have straight hair. The shorter i cut if the poofier it gets so i need to keep the weight on. I do have to layer it so it’s not completely flat. I’m not a fan of the mom cut (short). I feel like having it long is less maintenance for me since i don’t do much with it (buns, braids mainly).

I lost a lot of hair after DD was born.  Not so much bald spots just thinned a lot.  Actually I didn’t mind the hair loss as much as the regrowth.  I had so many short baby hairs right around my hairline as the hair grew back in.  If I pulled them all out I had bangs!
  • @tarheelgirl8 the baby hair is the worst! I actually started getting some of those a couple of years ago and it looks so dumb! Haha.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions!
  • @hayhay93 that’s so scary! I am glad you’ve figured things out and are doing okay now.

@Crystal321 same here. It felt like handfuls at a time but basically my hair just got a bit thinner overall. The baby hair regrow this is super sexy  :/

  • @hayhay93 that must have been so scary. I’m so glad they figured it out. You must be so relieved.

I was kind kind of hoping my hair would thin after pregnancy because mine is the crazy curly, insanely thick, pain in the butt hair that takes an hour to straighten and looks giant went curly. Because of that, I also can’t have it too short because it puffs out like a triangle and looks horrid so I keep at at least to my shoulders.

Lol.  No I didn’t either with my last pregnancy.  I only look at June occasionally because although my due date is mid July, my repeat csection will likely be scheduled for late June.
  • I search for bumpadmin as an author :) it always leads me to the threads that have gotten shut down and are pure gold! haha also im a little disappointed we dont get OP's that want to stick around and play like June's boo haha

  • Omg! Didn’t have nearly enough popcorn for that June thread. Perf Sunday night entertainment.
  • I'll probably get another warning for my latest response on the second tri vaccinations thread but worth it. even if it is a troll therr are too mng ftm being fear mongered by morons and now finding out im always at risk for three big scary illnesses really makes and angry.

How can someone say "i dont care about you i only care about putting chemicals in my child" I
mean seriously? how is life in general not a sacred thing to people anymore?!  It blows my mind and quite honestly makes me cry how selfish and self centered these people are and it really freaking scares me. it makes me scared to go in public knowing I could be exposed because "they dont care"

@Crystal321 I'm so sorry about your hair, that's infuriating that you decide to do something nice for yourself and and didn't get what you wanted. Did you express how disappointed you were and that this wasn't what you requested? I would have very firmly but politely made that known.

@amylu914 I didn't realize that pregnancy leave differed so much by state till I started reading pregnancy forums. We are pretty fortunate that we can get the 12 weeks paid. I'm hoping my work signs off on an extended leave for me again since I want to take a full 6 months after baby off but I'll appreciate what I can get.

My husband works in San Francisco and all companies of a certain size in SF provide 6 weeks paid paternity leave. I am so happy.

@kissableviv I would not cut my hair for any reason other than I wanted shorter hair, not to make life easier or any "practical" reason. I had long hair when DD was born, it often ended up in a cute bun but I still enjoyed having it long. I did get in to the habit of styling it only a few times a week and using dry shampoo often. Now my hair is past my shoulders but not as long, I'm growing it out longer.

@wildtot how frustrating and thoughtless, I'm sorry you got outed like that. Announcing can be so special it really isn't fair to have that taken from you.

  • @wildtot apparently it's oil because according to her chemo only kills people and you cure cancer with oil and veggies.....
