@justsuzie, please show this to your husband. I shouted it at the male trainer the other night when he mocked me for holding my bump at weird times. Felt great.
It’s so annoying when randos think we are being rude by not taking the time to respond with whatever answer they’ve already decided they want to hear but yet they don’t find it rude to to jump into our board without reading the rules or guidelines? I tried to be sarcastic as hell while still outlining the reasons she’s wrong.
@justsuzie thanks for the response. That was super helpful. I am thinking about doing it for health and the guilt about eating animal products. I am going to try and phase things out instead of go cold turkey. It seems less overwhelming that way too (and maybe I can convince my husband who basically eats meats cheese and bread) to have more fruit and veggies in his life!
@lincbeesmom for real. Sometimes it’s the closest i get to talking to an adult all day. I turn it off an hour before bedtime because I don’t need her fighting sleep. And we don’t sit there and watch it all day but if something catches her attention, then I’m all for it.
But my almost 2 year old also has an iPad for traveling because my sanity is more important than what people think of me.
Ok, they definitely watch more than 30 mins. The older ones aren’t allowed to watch TV on school days though. I do have podcasts running ALL day though. I can’t survive without hearing adults talking
My kids watch too much TV. But DD1 will literally burn down the house if she has a moment without being totally engaged and that's just not feasible. The other day, we woke up cause we heard something in the kitchen. She was taking the waffles she toasted out of the toaster. She turns 7 in a couple of weeks. TV is safer than unsupervised cooking.
I know some people who never let their kids watch TV. In one family, that includes home movies so good kid couldn't watch a video from our wedding or a party or something. In another, they take the batteries it if every toy so they kids have a bunch of useless toys and they are obsessed with getting to watch TV. Also, when kids don't know that characters their friends are talking about, it makes things really hard for them when everyone is playing on the playground.
ETA: for those whose husbands don't get pregnancy, check out the book My Boys Can Swim. Very quick read. Good tips (including don't tickled your wife's feet during labor).
@bjkay22 I logged onto the bump and was like, "Wow! A lot of people got anatomy scans today!" I was expecting cute ultrasound pics, but the clapback was more probably entertaining.
I was hardcore about no tv until two... Then J started cutting his second tooth, with a cold. I try to limit it to one movie a day, but I can’t function with a tv on. We didn’t have cable for most of growing up, and I never learned how to regulate it. I know AAP recommends like thirty minutes max for two and up but that’s not even enough time to clean the kitchen. Let’s be real, technology is NOT going anywhere, and as long as you’re balancing it when you can, you want your kid to be normal and functional above everything else.
DS started watching a bunch of Videos starting at like 15 months but they were all about shapes, colors, ABCs, and numbers. He actually learned a ton from watching videos/tv.
I really didn’t have an issue with screen time as long as it was educational. I’d say he started watching less educational shows within the past six months.
@justsuzie that sounds terrible, I'm glad it's a bit better now! It seems like a lot of us are hitting anxiety around the same time period, I wonder if it's something about this stage of pregnancy.
I'm a FTM so probably can't really properly contribute but I watched a lot of TV as a kid and I feel like I turned out okay
I have pandora on all day for background noise. The 3 year old watches some tv while his brother naps but I'm trying to dial that back. The 1 year old only watches nature shows in the evening sometimes or special occasions or if I have a dr appointment.
I usually have an audiobook on with a headphone in to drown out Mickey. I also work from home so I’d rather her watching mickey than destroying my office.
@fraufarbissina and @justsuzie thank you for sharing your husband’s comments. It was excellent comedy relief
@gildah I’ve been using more screen time and have overall been more distracted with DS lately. Mom guilt is the absolute worst!!
We didnt do any screen time until a year. Honestly he wasn’t interested in it before that anyway... and I don’t keep the TV on bc it drives me nuts... I’d prefer music or podcasts as well.. my husband hadn’t owned a TV in at least ten years when we started dating, so needless to say he isn’t a fan. But,sometimes it’s nice knowing where they are, what they are doing, so you can take a freaking shower! Or make dinner! Or sit on your ass for a bit... oh! Or just drink wine! Dear wine, I miss you, girl...
I was anti tv... until I got pregnant. The exhaustion is real! I agree that the things that DS watch are educational (Little Einsteins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, or Super Reader). He's been watching Paw Patrol the past month also. My mommy guilt feels a little better because we read at least 2 books each night and we do lessons each night too (letter identification, letter sounds, or sight word work). Plus it's cold! We don't like to be cold!
On the note of TV, where are the parental controls on Netflix?!? Even when DS is on the kids account, some weird shit pops up. I like to keep it educational, but he knows how to change what he is watching...
The cold has hit me like a bus today. Our main concern was me getting dizzy while standing and walking so DH came home at lunch to put me to bed with soup and take care of the twins. I've been ordered not to leave the bed so I'm doing heavy lurking on other boards and such.
The good news in alllllll of this is baby Mayday has been doing crazy flips. I was feeling them and then finally decided to watch and sure enough, we can see movement on the outside! DH couldn't catch one, but I recorded one for him.
I agree about the comedy relief...haha thanks for sharing your stories everyone.
@suchaglencoco so exciting that you're seeing movements on the outside!!! I've been checking but nothing yet.
So I just got back home from the doctors. I've been getting these low abdomen pains mainly on my right side, especually when im walking. I often have to slow down or stop it gets quite painful and feels like lots of pressure. I have also been urinating more frequently and its been uncomfy so I assumed I needed to get checked for a UTI. Turns out it's just good old round ligament pain (hitting face with palm) . On the bright side I now know what that feels like and I got to hear the baby's heartbeat! Hahaha
@babys_2018 I've been super crampy the past two days but baby is moving like crazy and it feels like muscle pain, not uterine pain so I think I have RLP too. Not the quick sharp kind, but the drawn out type...or maybe it's just stretching.
@justsuzie & @babys_2018, I've been having some pain for a few days now. Mine isn't so crampy but more pain on the right side. Isn't pregnancy grand? I hope you feel better.
@justsuzie mine is definitely more drawn out. It lasts at least 5-10 minutes at a time. Its hard to describe and when I was reading about round ligament pain it didn't seem to describe what I was experiencing, but I guess we are all different! I'm 21w5d and starting to get bigger now so in home sight, the rlp is a reasonable explanation. Doctor said it can be triggered by sudden or quick movements. I tend to speed walk so I just have to slow things down a bit. Mine has been going on like this (on and off) since the 22nd. (I distinctly remember having to stop on the sidewalk for a few minutes to get past the pain). How long and often is it for you?
@JNCPro3130 mine is mostly on the right side too. Seems odd! Ironically I was told that the egg can from m right ovary (how they know I have no idea), but makes me wonder if that's related at all. Hope you feel better soon too!
@baby_2018, it's weird that it's the right because baby girl is more on the other side. I'm assuming it's just things rearranging and making room for the baby. I'm making sure to stay hydrated and rest after an "episode".
I’m loving all the posts about tv. Makes me feel more normal for letting my kids watch when I can’t muster the energy to play ref or chase them. Any other teachers back? We went back yesterday and the kids are back today. The cold has us on indoor recess for the week. It’s only 2 days, but it might kill me. These kids need their outside pe and recess time! (It’s crazy to me because I grew up in Michigan and here in Georgia the temp doesn’t seem all that low) so sorry for all the crappy new year starts.
@lincbeesmom what is that? I'm assuming it's a desktop only kind of thing. I'm always on mobile.
Yeah I saw it on my tablet. Not sure how they calculate it but It’s just the Week’s “Leaders”. I don’t know if it’s based on posts? Some of you post a lot more than I do...
Guyz... We have another snow day today. 2 in a row. I can't look at any more pictures of kids baking on Facebook. It's so cold i don't know if we can even play outside. I still work on snow days, just from home. DH is home though. We're just all going to go stir crazy.
Re: Weekly Randoms 1/1
Edit. Oh I’m not the only one! Yay!
I shouted it at the male trainer the other night when he mocked me for holding my bump at weird times. Felt great.

Edit bump ate ate half my post.

It's all about balance!

im pretty proud. I very rarely cook but I saw a recipe for some teriyaki ground turkey and rice and felt inspired. It was delicious!
