@DUBNUG I have had BH for the last few weeks. I typically get them when I sit leaning forward too long at my desk and in the evening after running after my kiddos too much. They feel tight and there is a lot of pressure. My BH do cause some pain. *Disclaimer - this is a non MD statement* Something I learned with my first two is that if my entire stomach (top and bottom) aren't harder then it isn't a real contraction. Usually my BH just constricted around my lower abdomen and that is how I am able to tell if it is something I need to seriously watch or not.
@ekendall09 lol to continue the chicken convo, I just talked to the guy who breeds the chickens we’re getting and he’s from your current town! Such a small world. His farm is way out in western mass but he’s going to deliver the chicks to us because he visits his parents out here all the time. Score!
@kmalls that's awesome!! I have no idea what chickens we'll look into, lets be honest...we haven't done any research outside of chatting with family friends that have chickens. I'll definitely be picking your brain for local questions.
Ha, @ekendall09 we had no idea what we were doing when we decided to get chickens, we pretty much went with what the guy at the feed store told us were good starter chickens. We only started getting fancy after that.
Makes sense @kmalls. That's what I would have done too.
my randoms. I have 5 weekends left with DD before our due date. I broke down crying when my dad was visiting because it'll be my last weekends with just her. I'm sooooo happy for our new baby but mentally processing it is hard. She'll be 5 and I can't wrap my head around the fact that it won't just be her anymore. Of those 5 weekends only 2 of them truly have nothing which made the reality hit even harder. I went from 0-omg the baby is coming tomorrow real quick.
my mole I had removed last week came back benign, thank g! I survived another 6 month check that didn't lead to surgical removal!
SO got me the diaper bag I wanted for christmas, I was soooo elated! But then came the realization that we have nothing else so far. I started a brief moment of panic. We are doing more demolition in the babies room this weekend and the logical part of me keeps saying it makes no sense to buy everything while the room is gutted down to studs. Every other part of me is ready to start buying things and nesting.
@ekendall09 I feel you on the nursery stuff. DH and I finally cleared out the room yesterday and ripped out the carpet. The new floor should be going in this weekend and I am hoping we can get it painted this week in the evenings so we don’t have to worry about covering the new floor, but I’m having anxiety about being able to air out the room with this freaking cold weather. After the floor is down we were planning to do the same in our bedroom, which would mean moving our bedroom into the baby’s room while the carpet is removed/new floor installed. All I want to be able to do is just start setting up the nursery ASAP and it’s giving me super anxiety, so we are working on nesting in the rest of the house instead. Hope your demo progresses smoothly and quickly!
AFM we have our “Meet the Doctors” night at the hospital tonight... basically a one hour info session to meet the docs in L&D so we have some familiarity in case my OB isn’t on call when I deliver. I’m excited! 3rd tri on Thursday, holy sh!t...
@frenchiekinplusone its totally a process!!! We went from only taking down one wall to add a doorway to taking down 2 and reframing the closet, to not taking all 4 down to add insulation and new windows. Have you bought your nursery furniture yet? I was waiting on the crib because I don't have anywhere really good to store it until we refinish the floors. (which of course will be after we sheet rock, mud, replace windows, redo the trim and crown molding, paint etc etc etc haha) I do have a glider that's in DD room for now and we have the dresser (my old one that we're refinishing) so we have stuff but it still doesn't feel real!
@ekendall09 bless you for dealing with that level of construction. I would assume (or hope) the stress is less because it’s your DH running the show and you aren’t relying on a contractor to get stuff done correctly and on time, but still! I hate being in that state of unrest. We have the crib and dresser so far, as well as the area rug. We are storing everything in our mostly-finished basement until we can finally move it into the nursery but it’s driving me crazy. I’m also checking the basement like a psychopath to make sure there’s no water on the floor (we get water from time to time). No glider yet- I waited on getting it at a crazy sale price before Xmas and now it’s back up to the regular price so I’m keeping it on the registry and checking the price daily, lol. We have no artwork or anything for the walls yet and I’m starting to get anxious.
@frenchiekinplusone that's great you have that much. While it is nice to have a "complete" room, try not to get anxious!! The baby won't care and in alot of our cases won't even sleep in there until the are 1-3 months old for the first time. Easier said that done! If you can, place your stuff in the basement up on 2x4s just to keep it off the ground just in case!!
I don't mind the construction! SO is a painter/carpenter/everything haha and hes motivated to work on it when he has time so I know it'll go quickly once we have all the walls down! Plus we have lots of handy man friends to help if needed as well.
@psuxray07 You've inspired me to buy some of those undies - they look sooooo comfy!
Does anyone really know what "take it easy" means? I'm going to ask my OB tomorrow to be a little more descriptive but last time she told me to watch old movies and see what a 60's housewife does.
@peppersmith22 - I would definitely ask for clarification, as my stereotype of a 60’s housewife has a martini in one hand and a cigarette in the other lol!
@ekendall09 If you plan on getting chickens, I can't over-recommend www.backyardchickens.com . It is a seriously invaluable resource, and the forum is amazing, full of really knowledgeable and kind people.
@ngolimento thank you for the resource! Will definitely spend some time there over the next couple months before we move forward with construction of a coop or purchase of chickens!
Holy cow all you ladies that know so much about chicken tending blow my mind. I feel like I barely have enough time to buy eggs from the grocery store let alone have chickens of my own! Go on with yo bad selves! If any of you lived near me I'd buy your eggs to fund your habit .
I've never bought maternity underwear and really never felt uncomfortable in mine. Must be a combination of my scandalous pre-pregnancy underwear and the fact that my babies think coming anywhere near my cervix, unless to punch it, is bad luck until 40+ weeks. /side eye at my spawn...
Add me to the group of breech children... I never once thought about this in previous pregnancies but this damn kid is giving me so much anxiety about it. She flips pretty routinely but still spends about 75% of her time breech (according to the 100000 U/Ss I've had). I get excited when I get a kick up top but then I found out she likes to chill folded in half with her feet up by her head (according to the U/S tech) so now I doubt whether I have any clue what position she's in. She likes kicking my cervix... that's what I know for sure.

HOLY CRAP IT'S COLD GUYS. I live in Kansas City and its never this damn cold for this long. I'm from upstate NY so I grew up in this cold weather but our infrastructure out here is not prepared for it. Pretty sure we have a pipe frozen in the house... /sigh. I don't know why else my vanity faucet would stop working in the last 24-48 hours (vanity is on an exterior wall of the house and the floor is over an unheated garage). The odd thing is that DH's vanity still works... as does the toilet/shower/bath. Blargh.
DS: EDD, December 19th, 2014. Born, December 19th, 2014! DD: EDD, July 18th, 2016. Born, July 19th, 2016!
@ladythrice oh no! I really hope it’s not a frozen pipe because that would be BAD NEWS. Those suckers can burst and then you’ve got a huge problem. Is there anyone you can call (local plumber?) ASAP to get it checked out? A flooded house is not what you need!
I’m in MA and it’s cold as balls here, too (technical term, obvi). I think it’s the 6th or 7th day the high temp hasn’t broken 20° in Boston, and we’re inland from there and it’s been a lot colder than that. No thanks. My skin is not having this at all, and my hair! Static for days. The horror.
@ladythrice +1 to the holy cold. We're consistently negative temps here now or "feel like" negative temps. I feel like this kind of cold is so rare of the time span its gone on and the time of year. I'm looking forward to the 20 degrees slated for 1-2 days this week. The commute was cold this AM!
Random question: is anyone else's kid obsessed with trying to lie diagonally or horizontally? My baby is constantly flipping positions, and recently I can REALLY feel when she tries to go horizontal (hurts like crazy). So now she settles for diagonal, which is less uncomfortable, but a weird position to favor, imo. My first DD flipped head down really early (I think by 27 weeks ), and even though she crammed herself into my left side, she never deviated after.
@dubnug I never felt BH with my first pregnancy. I have felt only a few the last few days, but I have also been doing a lot of walking. But my BH hasn't hurt either, just some tightening almost like a cramp that goes away. You will know when it happens.
@ngolimento I swear i've felt this baby way far to my sides which makes me thing horizontal. I honestly can't tell the positioning otherwise. I always feel what seems to me like elbows or knees but they could be anything. Most the kicks are mid/upper belly with an occasional something low. I'm curious to see if they'll be able to tell based on feeling in the upcoming appts since i'm unable to figure it out!
Yeah, it's pretty sad when I'm excited that today's 'high' is 20 degrees .
@kmalls I'm at a loss of what to do to be honest! Do we call a plumber now? There's no way to access the pipes leading to the vanity without cutting a hole in the ceiling of our garage... /sigh. Do we wait until it gets warmer and pray that the pipe hasn't burst but risk the fact that it may have burst which means waiting is not in our best interest? I seriously have no idea what to do... My dad suggested renting an industrial heater to heat the garage (and suspected frozen pipe in ceiling of garage) to determine our issue/damage (frozen vs. burst pipe).
DH is like, meh, let's wait until it gets warmer. I'm all, WE NEED A PLAN DAMNIT. He's all, there's nothing we can do now.

And also.. another random I have today... My crunchy mom friends keep sharing these stupid warnings about the stupid glucose drink and I just got mine last week for my next appointment and now I'm feeling guilty for putting that in my body. /sigh
DS: EDD, December 19th, 2014. Born, December 19th, 2014! DD: EDD, July 18th, 2016. Born, July 19th, 2016!
@ladythrice yup, so done with this weather. I’m sick of worrying about the pipes freezing, it’s stressful! Def get yours checked out ASAP. My sister had a pipe burst this morning because they lost their heat last night (faulty thermostat or something) and from what I can gather it was NOT fun. Fx yours is an easy fix!
On the baby positioning thing... I feel like I’m the only one who has no clue!! Haha. I feel kicks and jabs in the cervix, bladder, front of my belly and near the top of my belly every once in a while. Most movement is below my belly button. Sometimes I can feel a hard round mass pushing out on one side, which I assume is a head or a bum but I have no idea. I’d assume the kid is breach or maybe horizontal? I think it’s amazing you guys all seem to know exactly how your babies are positioned in there; I’m lost!!
Amnio is done. I was going to reschedule it since they wouldn't let me go back to work, but decided to just do it. I wanted to get it over with and didn't want to keep putting it off. It wasn't too bad, but was painful when the needle hit my uterus and caused it to contract. I am on bed rest the rest of the day.
This baby sits so much lower than my son and i constantly feel kicks to my cervix!
@ladythrice I would call now, for sure. Frozen pipes are one thing I would not mess around with, especially, as you said, your infrastructure isn’t really prepared to deal with that level of cold. Best case scenario: you have to repair the ceiling in your garage. Worst case: the pipe is frozen, it bursts, and not only do you have to replace that pipe, but everything that was damaged by water, too — which insurance may or may not cover.
ETA: I will say that if your pipe has already burst, you’d probably know it. There would be water seeping into somewhere. But if it’s frozen and hasn’t yet burst you’d def want to know!
@ladythrice I really hope it's not a burst pipe. It has been super cold here in Indiana especially this past weekend I think with the wind chill we have been in the negatives. I think this morning on my way to work it was at -11. Even with the extreme cold we have had all the faucets in our house on a drip to hopefully avoid any pipes from freezing or bursting.
I don't know if it's just soreness in my stomach muscles from all the coughing and blowing my nose the past few days or if it's BH but my tummy is tight and I feel quite uncomfortable. Lucky today has been an easy one at work since I'm starting to train the girl who will be filling in for me. I am not looking forward to picking up DD later and being at home with her alone for 3+. Hopefully I can talk her into letting me relax some.
speaking of baby positioning. I noticed last night pretty constant pain in my ribs. Last pregnancy I had around the clock rib pain from the baby's feet being up in there on my right side starting at 34 weeks. Someone please tell me it's impossible for their feet to be up there so early....the last 6 weeks last time were spent leaning to the left most the time.
Anyone else have an anterior placenta and barely feel anything at all? I only feel super low crotch kicks but it’s still so subtle and only a few times a day. I’m 27 weeks and could never do kick counts - I barely feel anything

Cold as balls here too! I’m jealous of you who are at 20... my car showed -15 on the way to work this morning. Think we get to 10 for a high in a few days.
Girl definitely flips around, but boy is locked in laying horizontally above my bellybutton.
@vintageandrea90 I have an anterior placenta and am 26 weeks. I have only recently start feeling movements everyday. But I don't think they are as frequent as some of the other ladies on here who don't have anterior placentas. They are always around the perimeter of my stomach or internal.
@ladythrice I would suggest getting a heater for the garage if you think that could be impacting the pipe. Even if the pipe is frozen that doesn't mean it has burst but it still could! I would try to get the water flowing through all your taps and I would also suggest leaving your faucets dripping if possible. If you call a plummer now they will probably just come out and try to defrost the pipe which you could just try to do yourself.
@sparklingdiamond I'm sorry to hear you had to go through that today but I'm glad it's behind you at this point. FX for positive results soon.
Our pipes to our holding tank froze in our garage yesterday. It was our own fault for forgetting to run the sink overnight. DH went out and thawed them with a couple of blow dryers yesterday morning. Most winters it doesn’t get cold enough for that to happen here! FX you don’t have a burst pipe, @ladythrice!
Thanks everyone! We can't get a plumber in today... shocker, guess the whole damn region is having issues. They did suggest we try to keep the garage warmer in the meantime... I wanted to say, no shit sherlock, but I kept my thoughts to myself lol.
Now we're onto trying to figure out the heating solution... Anyone have any ideas? Does Home Depot (/name a large box retailer) rent those sorts of things??

I thought this was a worthwhile read for anyone unfamiliar with PANDAS - I had heard of it in passing but really wouldn’t have known what to look for in terms of one of my kids displaying symptoms of it. I definitely didn’t know it could potentially cause symptoms like anxiety and OCD. https://www.scarymommy.com/daughters-struggle-with-pandas/

I'm on the F the cold train with everyone else! We're trying to survive on 2 electric heaters (and one in DS's room, which his room is nice and warm). Long story short - we paid a million dollars in Nov to get the heater working and pay for oil, and 1 month later, not working again as of Christmas night, the night it started to get freezing cold. We need a new oil tank, but we can't afford it with all the money we've been paying for things going wrong as well as bills. Anyway, it's freakin' cold in here.
I just priced daycare for baby today, and kinda freaking out about how we're going to pay for 2 in daycare for a month or 2, and what to do with DS in summers. DS will start kindergarten in the fall (if I can figure out how to get him registered and find someone who will care for him before and after).
