It’s cold enough that my mutt who loves cool weather refused to go outside this morning. My eating healthy is going awesome this morning with eggos in my recliner. Happy Realistic New Year! We *may* bundle up and go for a walk in a bit just to get out.
@mileswithmyles, we take a photo every year of me holding the twins on New Years Eve day. DS on my right, DD on my left. I got teary eyed realizing next year I'll have a 3rd on my lap. It's coming too fast. This is the year our babies will be born!
It’s 1 degree here. I already told dh that if he gets transferred for work again, we’re moving somewhere warm. I’m so done with cold and snow and being trapped in the house for 5 months!!
Would it be tacky or too early to start a baby shower thread? I know most of us wouldn't be planning one if we're having one but I am anal and want to be involved in planning so I feel like a thread to discuss all things baby shower would be nice.
@lincbeesmom - Totally healthy! That looks so good...DH is going to the store shortly so I am thinking I will be adding fruit to the list (along with the chocolate, and whipped cream lol)
@Charlestonchew - I won't be having a shower this time so I'm not sure how much weight my vote should carry but I would love to see pictures of theme ideas, and actual pictures from showers...

I don’t think im having a shower unless we are having a girl then my sisters are going to want to throw a sprinkle I guess. I find it more irritating to have to try to come up with people to come to these things when most of my friends live in the computer, and family members just send whatever they feel like when they feel like it anyway. It also stresses me out to have to wait til after the shower to buy everything I’ll actually need because I might get it for free.
I am really grumpy today. J is in a whining and hitting kind of mood so MH is playing with him for the most part. I just want my cinnamon rolls to be done already so I can go back into hiding...
@ivyvines6 It definitely stresses me out that I may have to still get a bunch of crap after the shower and only have like 4 ish weeks to do that. Family members rolls their eyes at me for wanting to do it closer to like 30 weeks but I really don't want to spend hundreds of dollars in less than a month if I'm going to need to.
I'm so grateful for my coworkers who threw me a baby shower for DS. Showers (bridal and baby) stress me out though! I'm not outgoing and don't like to be the center of attention. I got laughed at during my baby shower and that made it even more awkward for me! Second baby means no shower this time!
@charlestonchew my baby shower is on the 27th. I’ll be 25 Weeks! My niece is also due in May and she’s the one planning it so I offered to have mine early so they weren’t too close together. Another factor was that i have to drive 5 hours to get there and I’d rather not be 32 Weeks and driving that far haha
@ivyvines6, DS goes to a Montessori preschool. He's 2.5 and they recommend/encourage independence and helping the family. DS is expected to put things in its spot, get dressed, go to the bathroom and help with chores. He helps feed the dogs, wipe down tables, and put silverware away. It's hard to not just do everything for him but it's great!
@JNCPro3130 I kind of naturally parent that way anyway, so that’s good to hear! We had planned to enroll him in one of the Montessori schools here when he turned four, but since I’m surprise pregnant again I’m not sure we’d be able to afford the tuition for two when the time comes.
@ivyvines6, it's quite costly! We'll probably have to go the more traditional route once this LO arrives. A lot of places work with families financially but the Montessori one DS is currently attending doesn't.
There’s a Montessori book called “teach me to do it myself” that I really liked. I don’t remember the author though... I’m kind of mad at DH, but I feel like I’m being irrational about it. He took our oldest three kids to visit his family over break and left me here with our two year old. I would have gone with them, but I had to work yesterday and there was no way to find a sub. Also, although I normally get along fine with my MIL, I’m avoiding her until after this baby is born because she had total freak out about us having so many kids. The thing is that every time DH has time off from work he spends it with his family. He never takes vacation to be with Just us, or to spend time with my family. It just bothers me that I didn’t get to spend Christmas break with my kids and husband! Also, it’s so unbelievably cold here that I didn’t get out of the house at all, and DS had terrible diarrhea for a few days which was exhausting of course. I know it’s not that big of a deal, but I’m still annoyed.
Both my kids went to Montessori preschool- it was definitely a financial sacrifice, but absolutely worth it. It's all student centered, and the kids become SO independent and very self-controlled- which IMO is one of the most important things for kindergarten. DS1 went to kinder this year and he's way ahead in both reading and math. They have lots of stuff online to work on at home too- we did a bunch of little "units" when I had them home for the summer. Pinterest is a gold mine!
@k5678, DS just moved up in classes at his preschool. The class is 3-6 year old children. I think they learn so much from being with different age groups.
@ivyvines6 Thank you for the validation, I feel less silly now:-) I like Montessori and I think it’s great for teaching kids how to be independent. I also love Waldorf which is quite different, but very interesting. I went to a Waldorf school through 8th grade and I wish there was one near here. I love my kids school, but it’s the polar opposite of my hippie dippie upbringing.
@JNCPro3130 The book “Simplicity Parenting” by Kim John Payne incorporates Waldorf teaching into home life. It is one of my favorite parenting books. Of course, like all books you have to take what works for your family, but it’s definitely worth a read!
@ivyvines6 Pinterest has some awesome ideas and set up for Montessori in the home I've looked at for a while. I'm using them as a guide for the toddler's big boy room. @suchaglencoco I love that you take New Years Day pics with the twins! What an awesome idea!
It's fucking -6 here and way too cold. We went to brunch with H's fam and leaving the house is just intolerable. I go back to work Wednesday and have had a longer break than most, but having a toddler and potty training is not a vacation. He's actually doing very well except for a few poop accidents, but I'm nervous to send him to the babysitter and for him to regress. Oh the joys of mom anxiett and guilt!! We did clean out and purge pur bedroom yesterday and today which was amazing. All that's left is to set up the nursery and the toddler's big boy room. We're going to transition him to a big boy bed during spring break in March and wait for summer to move rooms for him. The baby will be in our room anyway for a while and there's no rush to rock his entire world until the summer and we have more time to help him adjust while on summer vacation.
@gildah yes it really is. DH immediately ran up to the store and bought what was left of the water jugs as it's a city wide issue. We can always run to a nearby town if necessary but the thing I'm worried about is how quickly can this be fixed with below freezing temps?
@ivyvines6 like previously mentioned there are some great ideas online to promote Montessori ideas at home! Different activities and simple toy ideas and such. We looked into Montessori, but ended up going with a private school that has similar teachings, but imploys love and logic, focuses on being emphatic, kind humans, being good to the earth/sustainability as well... you may be surprised what you find in your area!! Waldolf was another type of school I liked and looked into... and Reggio Emilia approach as well.
Re: Weekly Randoms 1/1
Had some time this morning not wanting to do anything lest I freeze to death so wanted to get all the threads in order.
Also, you guys, we are having babies THIS year!
It is cold here too. Nowhere near negative numbers but it is raining and really gross out
