Re: Weekly Randoms 12/25 (a bit late)

  • @nanifrog I’ve cried at two movies in the last two days. We saw the new Star Wars yesterday and Coco today. Every time I saw Carrie Fisher on screen, it made me sad and Coco was just a sentimental movie about family so there were a lot of tears.

  • @nanifrog & @mileswithmyles, we watched Up and Inside Out the other day. Cried watching both.

  • @JNCPro3130, i watched you when i was pregnant with DD1. I ugly cried through it. That movie is terribly sad. I saw my friend who is the least sensitive person I've ever met and he said he cried at Up. Definitely hide it.
Inside out gets me too but I really, really love that movie.

@mileswithmyles how was Coco? My friend said she loved it but didn't think it was good for kids.
  • Hoping this doesn't cause too much controversy but I found it kinda interesting:

  • @mileswithmyles I know! It’s so sad. Plus, you don’t think about that being part of a kids movie.

  • I'm thinking about switching OB practices. I feel like they aren't taking my stomach problems seriously, telling me it can just be an unfortunate part of pregnancy. The new practice I may go with births out of a hospital with water delivery option. Has anyone had a water birth?

Most of the items on that list aren’t recommended and haven’t been for a while... Drop side cribs haven’t even been produced for years at this point! There are a couple things on the list that I kind of roll my eyes over and chalk that up to user error over a product issue (sling carriers and changing tables mostly) but maybe I’m the weird mom who didn’t use any of the listed things to begin with?
  • I do want to add that the article freaked me out because the top picture has the wrap I used with J and seeing it about gave me a heart attack!
  • @ivyvines6 I agree about the user error issue. I used a ring sling, Bumbo, and changing table and had no issues. But I also didn’t put the bumbo on top of our table and leave DS there unattended. I was surprised to see drop wise cribs on there because I already thought they were no longer made.
  • @gildah

I have been to a general doctor and one specialist that diagnosed me with colitis. I don’t think I can have a colonoscopy while pg because that is done under anesthesia. It seems my “colitis” is induced by either my anxiety or pregnancy. (I still don’t think that diagnosis is accurate even though they said there is such a thing .).  Because this problem started getting really bad (it was always a slight-moderate issue) during pregnancy I feel like that is what the doctors are chalking it up to.

I’m seeing a naturopath next week as recommended by my therapist. I’m also trying this FODMAP diet because I tracked all the foods I ate that cause me problems this month and they were all FODMAP foods. These are short-chained carbs that aren’t properly digested by the small intestine.

I’ve had IBS since elementary school and have a long list of foods that imintolerant to. I feel a bit betrayed by doctors because I’ve had a standing “IBS” diagnoses for 30 years and I know it’s more than that. I’m hoping this new doctor can shed some light on things rather than just recommending me another IBS medication. Sorry for the long response. I’ve actually put on weight avoiding all the FODMAP foods and my toilet troubles have gotten a tiny bit better, tmi- significant reduction in passing blood this last week. Now my next battle is adhereing to this diet while being vegan and still maintaining proper nutrition. I track everything I eat yo make sure I get enough protein.

I really need to get this under control before birth because I can’t imagine being stuck on a toilet the entire time during labor!
  • I think some of those are human error, but some are really not great. Either way, i was glad to have that info before my first was born, so thanks for posting it.

I used the Bumbo, but for very short periods of time and only on the ground. I didn't use a walker. I don't think you can really supervise enough to avoid a potential problem. And if you can, there's no need to put the kid in it. Just hold their hands and walk around.
  • Isn't there a recommendation not to use the bumbo because it can cause hip issues? This is why I won't be purchasing it.

Yes. It forces kids into a position they won’t ever sit in naturally so it theoretically hinders the natural development of their muscles.

Glad you and baby are ok! That sounds scary for sure! I agree with you on the arrest, I love witnessing those kinds of things and probably would have asked the nurse to describe them too. Lol.

  • @suchaglencoco glad everything was ok!

@cups4 - the transition to toddler bed really wasn't that bad!  You will do fine!  I would recommend a baby gate either at the door of your child's bedroom or top of the stairs if their bedroom is upstairs.  My son likes to get up and walk around at night before waking us up.  One night he went downstairs and got his milk.  Then this weekend we were up north and my MIL found him upstairs in the middle of the night.

  • @suchaglencoco, I don't understand what people think it accomplishes to be rude. Most people (of course there's exceptions) are just doing their job. They aren't purposely trying to irritate you.

A friend of mine was team green with both her girls. It was fun to hear the sex when she had the babies!!
