Clothes organized! Im about to run to Home Depot to get spackle and work on that during naptime. I’m also trying to deep clean the best I can. My House feels dusty no matter how much I clean. I don’t get it.
What have you done so far to get ready for baby? Absolutely nothing!
What upcoming projects are you planning? We have to move the office/tv room into a tiny room off the kitchen. This is also where the changing table and bassinet will be. Have to put shelving up in the laundry room Organize the storage room, especially our tools! Wash baby clothes/diapers etc. Get the stroller detailed (our car detailer does strollers)
Are you a DIYer or hiring help?
DH is very handy, so he can do most of the work.
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do?
All of it!!!!
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by?
I love my Miele canister vacuum. It was pretty expensive, but so worth it.
@babys_2018 I really like that organization challenge. I need something really structured to get myself in gear. I joined the facebook group- we'll see how it goes.
Also, I love buying organizational stuff. Not necessarily organizing said stuff, but buying things to get organized is soooo much fun.
And ditto to all on the cube storage. We have them everywhere and they hide mess so well!
@cups4 We got my 1 year old nephew that car track you have on the left side of your photo! He likes the car and the lever part of the track. He hasn't quite figured out how to make the whole thing work together Glad he can grow into it and it'll be fun for new reasons.
@justsuzie your paintings are beautiful. I guess I should have expected that as an art teacher you'd be a good artist, but I'm very impressed! Also, I initially really wanted a toy fake stuffed "taxidermied" unicorn head like the one in your photos, but now that we know we are having a boy, we decided to do a travel theme for the nursery.
For anyone interested, we have used an online interior design company called Decorist for several rooms in our house (and now for nursery). They have sales all the time, you just have to wait for them (like BOGO rooms or 40-50% off a room design). We have always made the design fee back bc Decorist has free shipping on everything. You give them your budget and send them your pinterest board of room ideas and then they give you a couple design options. They work with a lot of different brands (Pottery Barn, Target, Restoration Hardware, Serena and Lily, Wayfair, etc.). I have no eye for interior design, so they have helped us a lot. There are other online interior design companies too, but I haven't tried them since we've liked this one.
We went to ikea yesterday and bought a dresser (changing table) and nightstand (for next to glider).... need to paint before we put anything together... lacking the motivation right now and husband is out pheasant hunting, so i just want to enjoy the house to myself.
Loving what everyone has posted so far. Ill try and find some pics of what look we are going for and update this post.
What have you done so far to get ready for baby? my parents bought us the crib and dresser, both were delivered yesterday. The dresser came assembled, but the crib is still in the box. I’ve started a registry on Amazon and hopefully we will get to BBB within the next couple of weeks to start a registry there as well.
What upcoming projects are you planning? my parents painted the nursery when they were visiting at Thanksgiving. The color is WAY better than the dark yellow urine color that it was before! Since were team green, I’m trying to plan it neutral, but it’s tough! Like @charlestonchew, I think we’ve decided on a grey, mint, and white woodland theme. Current thinking for sheets, etc.
I would like to do this type of wall decal
Dresser with newly painted room (with cat)!
Are you a DIYer or hiring help? I like to do stuff DIY, but I know my limits!
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do? We’re trying to finish our basement before baby arrives, so that’s the biggest project of our house right now. My FIL did all the framing, but were contracting out for electrical, plumbing, and drywall. FIL wil hopefully be doing the flooring.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by? My dyson! I’d love to get a roomba for the first floor since at all hardwood, and with the cat, it gets dirty quickly. I also thinking hiring a cleaning lady will move to the top of the list!

@BertieMeetsGertie what brand of furniture set did you get? It looks very similar to the sorelle set we got DS but his is a natural wood tone, i am debating a white set or grey for this LO.
@bwow615@BertieMeetsGertie I also have sorelle! It's the berkley line I believe. This is the crib/changer combo I was actually complaining about putting together. It was about the death of me.
@charlestonchew please tell me it was the changing table section that was the PITA! I’m not looking forward to putting it together, but hopefully it’s not too bad.

@BertieMeetsGertie No it was the whole thing because the method of screwing everything in was an allen wrench. Every one of the millions of screws you had to do inch by inch. When I was done with the crib I never wanted to see an allen wrench again.
Lol, also too funny we have so many sorelle owners. @BertieMeetsGertie I really like the panel back of that set! I am going to have to look into it when we get around to crib shopping. With DS's crib i actually ended up putting it together on my own because I had zero patience to wait for SO to help me, I found the biggest pain in the ass to be putting the metal/wire frame into the base of the crib. Thinking of it makes my hands hurt. But @charlestonchew with the changer part added on I'm sure you had a million more screws and Allen wrench turns, yuck.
If it makes y’all feel better, I used white glove delivey to avoid putting DD’s crib together. I’ve put it together and taken it apart about a billion times now.
We use a changing topper on the dresser and it’s amazing. The only reason I’m not using it currently is because I can’t lift chunky butt up there. I take the pad and lay it on the floor now.
FTMs or anyone without one, I highly suggest a small drill. I have this one and it came with drill and screwdriver bits and I never hand Allen wrench ANYTHING. It will also be helpful when you're baby proofing later on! Oohhh, I have several drills. I never would have thought about using that instead of the Allen wrench! Genius!

What have you done so far to get ready for baby? cleaned out the clutter from the nursery and 80% of patchwork
What upcoming projects are you planning? patch (previous owners painted with sand paint! Ugh) and paint the walls, moving the queen bed out (is going in our daughters room to replace her full) add nicer closet shelving
Are you a DIYer or hiring help? we do everything
Is there anything you’re dreading having to do? sanding the patchwork (my husband will do this part), cleaning the room out was the other biggest task, but now that that is done the rest should be easier.
GTKY: What’s the one household essential or tool that you swear by? My husband! Hehe, he's a major DIYer, he's great and jumping in to get things done when working on projects.
@BertieMeetsGertie I'm outside of Chicago so we have BBB and Bru nearby... I will have to look for the coupon or do another registry I haven't seen a coupon in the mail from them in a long time.
I’m so jealous of everyone with a BBB around. I believe the closest one to us is like 3-4 hours.
Btw DH was feeling handy this evening and he put the glider together (20 minute project) and now he’s tackling the crib (I’m guessing 2 hours). Oh boy.
Also an AW pic of one of our pups testing out the glider.
@bwow615@BertieMeetsGertie I also have sorelle! It's the berkley line I believe. This is the crib/changer combo I was actually complaining about putting together. It was about the death of me.
Ahhh really??? This is what we have but it's still in the box. I was excited to put it together but now I'm not so sure... lol
@charlestonchew hahahaha! Too funny. I wonder just how many dog moms expecting babies have done this exact same thing. DH just asked if we were going to try to put one of the dogs in the crib when he’s finished. I told him that might not be quite as cute haha
@bjkay22 Yeah I don't want to put a dog in a crib cause I don't want hair and anything else gross in there and I don't want them to learn they can get inside it lol
@charlestonchew I figure the dog hair is bound to be everywhere no matter what I do but yes I’m afraid they will figure out it’s comfy and try to get in there haha
@babys_2018 It's a gorgeous crib and absolutely love it now that it's set up but yes it was extremely frustrating. Maybe I'm not a handy person so maybe it was worse for me but if I could have used a drill instead of a damn allen wrench I probably wouldn't have hated it so much. There was even one small divider I forgot to put in the back of the changer part after I had put the crib next to the wall and I said who cares and put the extra piece away in a drawer.
@charlestonchew good to know! I'll definitely have to look for a drill with an allen attachment to try to make the job easier! First job is finishing cleaning out the room!
Any ideas for a glider recliner? We are looking for one that hugs the wall so that it doesn’t take up so much space. I think a regular furniture store might be our best bet.
Me: 31 DH: 32 Dating since: 11/17/2001 Married: 9/26/2009 TTC: June 2016
@BertieMeetsGertie GET A GLIDER RECLINER. We got a regular glider last time and are dropping $$ this time on one that reclines. You are going to live in the thing guaranteed and you NEED it to recline. Here's the one we are getting because we were able to try it and loved it in Target: https://www.target.com/p/baby-relax-addison-swivel-gliding-recliner-gray/-/A-52070973 Amazon has the same brand with a few options.
