Thanks @abhphilly, that’s really helpful. I’m sorry that you have to take it too, but glad I’m not alone. I’ll be taking the vaginal tablets. My OB wanted to do the gel, but we can’t get it here.
@doraleigh35 In that case, I think those are the same that lots of early pregnancy moms use, so there should be a couple people on here that did them and can answer with side effects.
What are everyone’s thoughts on crib bumpers? I’m nervous because I’ve heard horror stories about children suffocating with bumper pads, but I also don’t want my sons legs/arms to go through the slats.
+1 for no bumpers. We bought a mesh set when DD kept getting her legs and arms "stuck" out of the crib and crying about it. I was too scared to ever actually use them as I never thought we got it tight enough. They figured it out eventually.
@mmb4532 it’s totally overwhelming. One of the best piece of advice I got from my STM+ friends with DS was not to open everything after the shower. There were things we thought we “needed” that we never ended up using, so we were able to take them back and exchange them for something we did actually need.
@mmb4532 - We never used them and never had a problem. Our crib set came with them but my MIL make them into valances for the windows. They do make breatheable bumpers but I personally never had any.
I used mesh bumpers when arms started getting stuck. When she was about a year I put the bumpers on the crib because she liked to snuggle into the side. I wouldn’t have used them before that.
Same as @Poppy0419, didn't use them until after a year. @mmb4532 my own advice is to only get sheets and mattress protector pads. Nothing else in the crib. You can layer the mattress pad, sheet, mattress pad, sheet, so that inevitably when there's a leak or spit up MOTN you can rip off the top sheet and mattress pad and there's already another ready to go underneath and no extra effort come 3 am.
Another no bumpers vote. When they stand, they can use them to help climb out of the crib.
For BFing, try to find a BF support group. Great way to calm down and meet other moms. The difficulty in switching off for motn feedings is that you can't pump one night and not the next. If you ff at night, my mil said they used to switch off weeks. That way you have a whole week to catch up on sleep and feel rested. That always made sense to me.
We’ve never used crib bumpers. My kids have had their legs caught, but only when they were bigger and moving around. Try not to stress too much about baby gear and supplies! newborns only need a car seat, stroller, baby carrier, pack and play, breast pump or formula + bottles, a nursing pillow, a baby bath (doesn’t need to be fancy) a changing pad on top of a dresser and lots of diapers and wipes. They also need some burp cloths, a few swaddle blankets, and several outfit/sleepers. Truthfully, I only put newborns in sleepers. I don’t even bother with onesies. The truth is that if you really need something, you can order it on amazon and it’ll be at your door 2 days later! Also, if you have any Mom friends, see if they’ll let you borrow stuff. All of my baby stuff gets loaned out to trusted friends! I’m pretty sure one of my girlfriends has never bought anything for her kids because she always uses my stuff!
I got mesh crib liners when my ds got his leg so stuck in the bars of the crib that I had to bend the bar to get his leg out (it was terrifying). He was older though (closer to 1), so I wasn’t as worried. They also help to keep pacifiers and etc from falling out. Not sure if I will do mesh bumpers at any point with the next one, but I would definitely not recommend the fluffy bumpers they for some reason still sell with a newborn
We did the mesh crib surround as DS got a bit older also probably around 1. I actually found them to be helpful in his binky not falling between the wall and the crib.
Re: Weekly Questions 12/18
I'm starting my registry and as a FTM, I'm overwhelmed with what to register for!

That advice just blew my mind! Thank you!
