  • @gspmom21 Awesome!!! I love that!
  • We also didn’t do a gender reveal but I love seeing them! I was going to have my SIL get us cakes with the genders but ultimately I was too impatient to wait to know so we had our doctor call and just tell us on speaker phone and my husband texted our parents that there were 2 girls like as I was finishing the conversation with my OB. Anticlimactic sure but efficient!
  • @babybakie what a sweet story about your nephew and niece. Good luck to them throughout the adoption process!
  • @babybakie @LadyJ2949 I think 13+6 is the cutoff for NIPT. For those interested, this is from the booklet I was given. I did the sequential integrated screening which is 2 blood draws+NT. NT is not covered by Cali, but we confirmed with insurance they cover it.
  • @kissableviv thank you so much for that.
  • babybakie My sister and sil are in charge of the gender reveal (long story...my husband's sister wants to do the baby shower...I want no drama...seems to be the easy way out). However, I love the idea of the color bombs! Also, there is a picture I saw on Pinterest (of course now I can't find it), where the couple is standing in the front and all the guests are in the back with confetti bombs blowing in the air. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the excitement on everyone's faces. I may ask my sisters to do this.

  • @Zombiehoohaa I especially love the ideas that create a cool photo op for the baby book- Confetti is perfect for that! All this inspiration! I may be warming up to the idea of doing something now lol

  • @wildtot that may be it. I vaguely remember being told we could do out of pocket, but we were team green anyway, so didn't think about it.
  • Hey all. Is NIPT the same as cell free DNA testing? Just did the blood draw today and it’s the materniT plus brand test I think. I know it tells risk factor for 3 of the trisomies and fetal sex. Same thing? Can’t wait to find out!

  • I can't find the EXACT picture that actually made me have this overwhelming feeling of excitement and happiness. However, these are pretty close (with the exception of sour puss girl in the top right of the 2nd picture.) :)

This would make the gender reveal worth it, at least to me.

  • @wildtot They didn't even say anything about out of pocket. If they did, I would have called insurance to find out how much it would cost. We technically now have to wait until our 16 week appointment. The doctor mentioned that at the NT scan the technician MAY be able to see the gender, however, they may not even tell us if they can.  DH and I are both SO eager to find out the gender, that we are thinking of going to the ultrasound place down the street and paying $45 cash to get gender results at 13 weeks.

  • @zombiehoohaa fwiw my technician asked us if we wanted to know because she could tell, we didn't tell her we already knew until she confirmed it:)
  • @kissableviv I love when techs are helpful! I'm going to ask at our NT scan if they will write it down. FX!

  • @kinny512 yes, NIPT is the same as Cell Free DNA.  I am doing MaterniTi too and just had my blood draw as well!
  • @zombiehoohaa I LOVE the confetti idea! I think the huge amount of color looks awesome

@zombiehoohaa i feel like im tagging you in every thread right now. I swear im not stalking you. Anyhoo....

My tech said too early to tell at the NT scan which was 12w5d but their equipment was not very advanced compared to what I've seen at my doc. Also NT scan/bloodwork/genetic counseling copay for me was around $150. I have decent insurance (United healthcare PPO) but Kaiser could be completely different.

We went to an elective US at one of the 4d places with DS at 13w. DH is itching to go now but I kind of want to wait a few more weeks. My SIL went at 13w and was told boy then was told girl at her 16w appt. I'm kind of gunshy now because of that chaos.
  • Had our NT scan a few days ago.  I was 13 weeks. My husband asked the gender and the tech said 100% a girl. I had no idea they can tell that early because with DS I didn't find out until 20 weeks! It was a shock for sure! I guess if the baby is in the right position and the machine is good the tech can see clearly.
  • @emzie54 woohoo! Hopefully we’ll both be getting our results next week then- how exciting is that. Btw how many vials of blood did they take for yours? They only did one for me and I hope that’s right since I always heard there was A LOT taken for cell free.
  • @kinny512 for my cell-free test they took about 5 vials of blood. There was at least one other non traditional test (thyroid) that they wanted to check on.
  • @zombiehoohaa I had an u/s at 12+3 last week and told the test about sneak peek ( the blood sample I sent in that said we’re having a boy) and she asked if I wanted to take a peek between the legs and as soon as she got there she’s like yeah it’s definitely a boy! Hopefully they can tell for you! I know my last pregnancy she wouldn’t even look between the legs because it’s “too early” but I think she was curious if the blood test was right. Haha.
  • @kinny512 I had a bunch of tests run, but it was 2 giant vials for MaterniTi.  It was a lot.  I noticed on the lab request for the test that there are 3 different options for the doc to choose from for what is screened for. Maybe they were screening for different things and that accounts for the difference in our number of vials?
  • @emzie54 that might be it. I looked up the test info on their website and it did say only 10ml of blood or something like that. And it was only the materniT21 PLUS w SCA (which looks to be the 3 trisomies, fetal sex, and sex chromosome aneuploidies). Definitely not complaining about not taking more blood haha would just be so bummed if I had to go back and do it again.
  • The more I think of it, the more I don’t understand how they couldn’t determine sex from my blood test. I am worried that could be a sign of something negative. I’m really happy for everyone finding out though! It’s such an exciting time.
  • @runsomewhere that’s so cute!! Love that idea, still a fun option for family without planning a big party.

  • I had the test done with my DS2 Bc we found out our DS1 has a gene that is linked with autism. So we wanted to make sure we knew everything that was going on. Our insurance paid for it. I will most likely do the same for this baby.
I want to do something special to announce this baby with my older three. This is our last baby and my daughter prayed for this baby.

How far along were you when you had your test done? My friend had a panorama done right at 10 weeks and they couldn’t determine the sex. She did it again like a week later and the results came back that time.
  • Really was hoping to join you all today and was excited to get a call from the genetic counselor - who said essentially that the lab messed up and the specimen was too deteriorated to do the test.  I can do it again, supposedly for no extra charge (let's hope...), but have to go back today once they can get the form faxed over.  Ugh.
  • @noideawhatshesdoing Exactly! I know that other people will project their expectations on this child from birth onward. I feel like at least I can protect this baby from that for a few more months by refusing to find out what genitalia are present. If I have a girl who wants to be a pink sparkly princess, great! We will be a pink sparkly princess household. Same with a boy who likes sports - we'll be a rough and tumble sports household. But I want any girl of mine to know that she can like sports and rockets and dirt and any boy of mine to know that he can like ballet and dolls and sparkles and I will be 100% on board with whatever. They're all just different things that different people like. I feel like my parents did a great job of giving me options and going with the flow as I went through different phases of liking different things. It really made me well-rounded and helped me to learn about myself and my likes and dislikes.
  • @beanship <3<3<3<3<3<3<3 Love it! We're all just people and we all like different stuff. I don't care if we have a girl or boy, we'll be doing the same activities as a family regardless. I just don't want to tell family what we're having because I don't want to have people put my baby in a box before he/she/x is born. So me not knowing what we're having solves the accidental pronoun use! Plus it prevents me from letting my imagination getting the better of myself and setting up the box I'm trying to avoid in the first place. My youngest brother was awesome (he passed away in 2016) but growing up was hell for him because all the other guys in our family fit into the "manly man" box, and he just didn't. He loved his sparkles and damn it if he wasn't prettier than me in drag.

I am however very excited and happy for everyone on here that is finding out and is thrilled one way or the other. It is such a fun time! My own personal issues are my issues, and I hope I haven't come off as a jerk.
  • @noideawhatshesdoing I'm so sorry your brother had so much trouble. I never had someone close to me who had a hard time with gender identity, but I did experience a lot of subtle (and not so subtle) bullying because I was interested in different things than many of my female peers. So that's where I'm coming from with my issues.
  • I'm a FTM and so antsy to find out gender. My first ultrasound (NT) is next Friday. I can't wait to finally get some reassurance that things are going well - can't help but worry I have an empty womb or something!
  • Well I was 11 weeks 4 days, but the genetic counselor didnt seem concerned at all. Technically they told me they didn’t expect any results because I am considered obese and it’s harder to get enough fetal dna. It’s possible that they just didn’t have enough and they only tested for the serious issues. I am perfectly fine with waiting to find out gender but or course google made me worry about other possible issues! @hillbillywife
  • A boy arriving on July 14th!
