Re: Randoms Post Holidays/Rest of 2017

  • Things were good here! It’s been a quiet week thus far and it’s so nice to just relax. We’re going to my dads on Friday til Monday for New Years and I’m most nervous for that. It’ll be a full house which means we have to sleep in DDs room. I may opt for the couch haha!

Hope everyone had a great holiday!! It’s definitely been quiet around here  <3

  • After working a couple days of the holiday and spending a day with family, today is my day to catch up on laundry and dishes and just the general mess of boxes and new things that Christmas brings. My sister is still in town today so she’s hanging out with me and distracting DD today  :)

  • Hello everyone! Hope your holidays were wonderful! Still battling the stress here. We have one more celebration on Dec 30th and probably my largest one. Stilk need to finish shopping and wrapping.

My BF was diagnosed with influenza  A the Friday before Christmas so he has been staying far far away. Haven't seen him in a week. So that stinks. Poor guy sounds like death on the phone.

Also been spotting (vaginally) with bowel movements that require pushing--not even that hard. I see my doctor this Friday. I called and they don't seem concerned since it stops right away and is only associated with BM. Sorry TMI. My Doppler has been my saving grace for my sanity until I have my appt in a few days.

Cheers to the last week of 2017. I'll be glad when this week is over. I've missed chatting with you ladies over past couple days. Been trying to at least read the posts, although it's been pretty quiet, and look forward to interacting more again once this crazy week passes.

  • Christmas as good. We definitely procrastinated too much on the food prep and it was kinda hectic on Christmas morning. Everything worked out though and all 17 of us had a great time. My ILs are here until tomorrow and we are going to a couple craft breweries tonight for my BILs birthday. DH is off all week, so it will be nice to have a few family days before the new year.

Hi guys! Sounds like everyone’s holidays have been ok so far aside from some mild stress. I got some lush bath bombs for Christmas (actually two of the same set so I’m going to try to exchange one and they’re having BOGO right now) but I’m excited to take a relaxing bath tonight before going back to work tomorrow. It will feel so nice after driving a total of 13 hours in 4 days.  Currently in our last 3 hour stretch.

Things that irked me this weekend as far as pregnancy goes:
-stop asking me how I feel. I feel fine. If I didn’t feel good you would know.
-do not touch my stomach. That’s not the baby it’s just my fat.
-mind your own business with regards to how much coffee I’ve had

  • @amys614 My spotting from a SCH was exactly as you described when bearing down at times. I was on pelvic rest for a total of 10 weeks with intermittent spotting. I hope you get some good answers!

  • It has been quite around here. But Christmas was good around here! Not really sure what to do yet with DS' new stuff from everyone. And still have to do presents with mil today... who gives waaaaaay to much herself. Luckily my 17 yr old nephew made us an awesome wooden box/bench that will be turned into a toy box. I'm anxious to get the tree down and get the toy room restructured/organized.

@amys614 sorry about the spotting. That's always hard to see :( hope you get some answers.

  • Christmas was good here. We ended up with 12 total here. I cooked way too much food, as usual. And MIL bought DS way too many presents, as usual. So I am spending today trying to relax as much as I can since I was in the kitchen all day yesterday. And while I sit here, I’m trying to figure out in my brain how to rearrange the playroom.

We will I’ll still have people here until tomorrow. And then tomorrow morning we will be taking a short road trip to see DHs grandmother with the family. When we get back, I will take down the tree/decor and then I can hopefully decompress until the new year.
  • @doxiemoxie212 really disappointed in who they picked ONLY cause I don't know him! I only got into these shows at the end of kaitlyns I think? And guessing he's from before that? But I'm sure it'll take all of 2 mins till I'm sucked into the crazy.

  • @catlady1215 I got into it at Dez's season (so boring; honestly a miracle DH convinced me to stick with it because she was SO DULL), and after Dez it was: Chris Soules, Kaitlyn, Ben, Jojo, Nick, and Rachel. AND I DON'T KNOW HIM EITHER! So like, wtf. I shouldn't have had to be watching this stupid franchise for like 10 years to know who this dude is.

Also, I listen to a lot of reality TV podcasts, etc., and word on the street is that his favorite past time is picking up like 19-year-old college girls (I think he's mid/late 30s, right?) and never calling them again. So, that's dope.
  • I'm so glad Christmas is over. I'm enjoying winter break and don't go back until the 3rd....but I have to log 8 hours of work this week and will probably spend way more than that grading papers since grades are due when we go back on the 3rd.
  • Happy holidays all! Happy Christmas is over and my DH and I can enjoy our week off together.  My dad has been staying with us since our gender reveal party 12/16(up from FL). He's slated to stay up here until at least 1/10 when he has his back surgery 6 month follow up. That will mark him staying with us 6 months in last year! So... Finding it very hard to stay patient and not annoyed by the invasion of privacy and our home. What's so hard is he shakes up the routine and he doesn't know how to accept our lives of social activities has changed... He constantly wants to go out for a beer or cigar and drag us along even after he knows we are pretty serious home bodies right now.

Anyways, am totally on board with a bachelor recap. I was team Peter for this season so a little disappointed.  Interesting fact, I live in the same city (Waukesha, WI) that Nick Viall grew up in and brought the woman back to! It was wild seeing our little city on the big screen.  My neighbor is still good friends with him, they went to HS together.
  • Happy holidays everyone!
We’ve had 3 fairly relaxing days over here..
christmas eve we spent the day at my parents. DD snuck in a nap in the car on the way = win! And this was the first gathering in a lonnnng time that didn’t end in yelling = also a win! It was so much fun watching DD actually experience Christmas this year (she was 7 months last Christmas.) my sil got Baby a little present and I cried allll the tears opening it up, I still can’t believe this is happening!
yesterday was a lazy day at home. Ate a bunch of junk food. Forgot to wrap DD’s presents but she didn’t care.. ended up driving out to our grandparents in the evening to visit some family that was out for the holidays.
Today we have Christmas with my in laws, and I’m getting some Boxing Day shopping done! It was the best present ever, finding out that we are having a baby girl! I haven’t felt ready/allowed myself to shop for baby at all up until now.. so it’s exciting!
  • @krashke, can I add to your list? 1. Stop force feeding me food. I swear my MIL was about to start spoon feeding me like she does my niece. 2. I promise I can carry grocery bags. You don't have to send someone to the store with me to help carry things.

AFM, I finally have the house back after a week with my in-laws. Enjoying my last day off today. We're having carpet installed next week, so we only have a few days to move all the little things from the rooms and closets and remove all the baseboard. We're going to install the new baseboard ourselves. And if we have some spare time before the install, we'll do a neutral paint in the nursery so we don't mess up the new carpet later. DH was cute and just sent me texts of nursery ideas he likes while he's bored at work.  <3

  • @krashke Totally +1 on the don't touch my belly, it's not the baby it's just fat.  I've always been self consciois about my stomach and even when DH touches my stomach pre-pregnancy it makes me uncomfortable - so this is a whole different ball game.  Especially since there is still nothing there yet lol.

My Christmas was good for the most part.  My parents came to stay with us and it was fun until I got really sick Christmas Eve night (I think from food poisoning) and was puking (and more) all night.  I never get sick and didn't have any morning sickness so this was just a huge surprise.  So needless to say I hosted my first ever Christmas dinner for 7 completely drained and didn't eat a bite.  But otherwise it was nice to spend time with my family for the weekend.  I have my scheduled OB appointment tomorrow so I'll ask them if the baby is ok regarding this sickness.

We also announced on fb this weekend and got a cute shot of my pup, so I'll head over to the announcement page and share there.

I've only ever watched an episode of the Bachelor once and thought it was so staged and couldn't see myself ever getting into it, even though most of my friends like it and I love reality shows.  It's so corny!  :p
  • Our holidays were good. We're heading home tomorrow.
My uncle is a thinly veiled abusive jerk, which really bugs me. He's not outright, but we can all see it. Maybe his church friends don't, but we see it. My aunt is the sweetest person ever, who makes enough money to live on her own but I don't think she'll ever leave him.
  • @helenbz I have two toddlers, so it’s literally the best excuse to not go anywhere on NYE. Im with you on going to sleep early. Midnight seems so late to me these days.

  • Christmas was great. My mom came for the first time in 7 years, and I got to spend a lot of time with my niece (whose 2 and never recognized me before). She actually cried when I left for the airport, and not like bratty cry like tears rolled down as she waived goodbye. My mom looked on in disbelief she'd never seen my niece respond that way. It was heart wrenching. I feel like she actually loves and misses me back now. I'd really love for her and my sister to come live in Houston with us (esp since it looks like my mom will be moving here after the baby is born) but my sister is basically like taking in a 14 year old (she's 20). No education (she didn't finish high school). No skill. No driver's license or car. No money. And she hates to be told what she needs to do to get her life in order/ asked what she's going to do. I just don't think its right ask my husband to do that, esp since I took in my other sister for 2 years before and that was a complete let down (but she also didn't have a kid).

DH didn't come, so I'm kind of glad I missed Christmas in my hometown last year so we'd spend out first married Christmas together.

The most annoying pg related thing was I received two gifts for the baby, and although its cute and I cherish those first gifts for him, this was my last childless Christmas I was looking forward to getting stuff for me, not the baby. Esp since my only request this year was maternity clothes. It would have been cuter if those gifts were addressed to him and mine were separate.

  • @krashke... Me for all those things.

Glad everyone had a good holiday.

Tomorrow I'm supposed to be going with my neighbor to meet the indigenous parteras (local midwives for the indigenous tribes here). They have to partera houses and I'm not sure if they will even attend me. They're not very far from me either, which is nice. We'll see what it feels like to me after my visit.

  • We’ve been trying to figure out what we wanted to do for a not crazy expensive babymoon/if we wanted to do anything at all.

Earlier thos year we moved three three hours from “home”. I’ve been finding it difficult being pregnant and starting to crave foods, because everything I am craving is foods from back home, which are all now at least three hours away.

Today I half way joked to DH that for our babymoon, we should just go get a hotel room “back home” and spend three days eating all the food we are missing from back home. He said it sounded like a great idea. Haha

So as lame as it may sound, we might potentially be going and getting a hotel room on the Central coast and spending three days eating our hearts desire. Babymoon win?
  • @BurlapandLace That sounds amazing to me. Eating vacations are the best vacations (it’s what most of mine are, let’s be honest).

@BurlapandLace I feel like that’s a great idea! The point is to relax and have fun together and a hotel somewhere you love sounds great! Or...if it comes to it, send the hubby with a shopping list.

Out of curiosity...what kind of foods can you not get 3 hours away?? I’m about 24 hours and 3 flights away from home and I can get most foods I miss from Amazon or by making them myself (not always successfully though). I certainly miss the foods I can’t get that way though and I’d do a baby moon eating vacation in a heart beat! Haha especially since my appetite is back. My next trip back will be after the baby, probably next Christmas, and you better believe I’ll be eating my way through that vacation!
  • @helenbz I live 13 hours from my hometown and I can't get: Krystal burgers, publix subs, boiled peanuts, or garlic crabs here in Houston. For most foods it's a you don't miss it until it gone type thing, these were never my top favorites but when I don't have access to them I wanted them even more. For me, also stuff like BBQ made my by dad, nowhere is same. Other stuff I can replicate but it almost taste bad just trying.

  • @LaceyBee522 when my mom knew we were trying she said, “you know, twins run in our family!” I do not have a large family, and I do not know of ANY twins lol lol. Love it ;)
  • @LaceyBee522 my step mom is a twin so I kept joking that we were going to end up with twins because they are in the family. A few people had to think about it for a minute before they realized I was being sarcastic.

I should be working and catching up on things while it is slow but instead I have been doing way more stroller research than is necessary. If money weren't an option I would just go with the Uppababy Vista and Mesa car seat. Sigh. Wondering if people will think I am batshit if I register for them.

@krashke - Do it.  Register for it. We have a UppaBaby Cruz, and I cannot say enough how much I love it. Seriously. We registered for it, figuring it would be something we would buy for ourselves, and were surprised when MIL gifted it to us. Amazing.  That being said, if not gifted to you, often the 2nd hand ones in good condition, a few years older, really hold their value. Just replace the tires....IMO.  That was an option for us as well. EDIT: We went with Uppababy as DH is 6'6" and he needed the extending handle. Invaluable. So if your DH is tall, or you are relatively tall, I strongly suggest it.

We registered for a lot of stuff, not thinking we were getting all that much... and were pleasantly surprised.  We did have a back up list/sources for things, and prioritized what we wanted new, versus what we would be happy with second hand.  For me it was 1a) new mattress for crib, 1b) the stroller, 1c) new car seat (Chicco KeyFit)... pretty much everything else I was okay with second hand (swing, crib,  play yard, infant carrier, high chair, clothes, etc.)

FWIW - we got our crib and mattress from Ikea. Great prices, classic style, safe and convertible to a toddler bed.

Mama to a wonderful DD - Sep 2015, Wife to my DH since 2011, 2 dogs, a cat, and hoping to add No. 2 in May/June 2018. Canadian.
5 - IUIs, 3 - IVF retrievals, 2- failed transfers (fresh, and frozen), PGS on second IVF resulted in 1 perfect emby, and DD.
3rd IVF w PGS resulted in 3! perfect embys. 1st transfer - Sep 2017 2 more on ice.
  • Friends, I just inflated the Cozy Bump my DH got me for Christmas, and I have to tell you all that I may be living on that thing in the future months. I remember with DD I would have *probably* killed to lay on my stomach for 10 minutes but I never knew such a thing existed. If any of you are like me and need to be able to stretch out in a prone position (for me it’s because of a back injury), you might want to look into it! I know there was some concern about the hole not being big enough for the bump later on, at this point it doesn’t seem like it will become an issue, and the ring part that goes around your bump can be deflated separately from the body part if your bump needs more room.

  • Spent 4 hours yesterday registering at Babies4Us with DH.  A little early, but we are both off this week and wanted the store virtually empty on a Wednesday morning. It was really fun, but at times overwhelming! Still need a couple things from the "must have" lists and the entire "nice to have" page.  Gave up when we got to carriers and told DH I needed to re-review the carriers weekly spotlight we did here as that was one of our first ones! The Lille all seasons seemed nicest at first appearance so we'll see.  Was super proud we made it through the car seat and stroller party with what seems to be a really nice combo. We went with the Graco snug rude snug lock infant seat, and Graco modes click connect stroller-holt. They weren't a prefabricated set but based on a prefab set similar that we liked just upgraded a bit in design.  Also, decided on elephant theme nursery which was really cute to shop for! DH had a blast shooting the registering gun and said it was really exciting and he was impressed with how we agreed on most everything right away.
  • I've been craving a bagel with lox. Improvised and put leftover Christmas ham on a toasted bagel with cream cheese. Tastes very similar, and I'm in heaven right now. I highly recommend.

  • @helenbz ~ Some of it I’m sure we could make. But I’m more talking about specific meals we love from specific restaurants back home. Like my favorite lunch special at the best Mexican restaurant in town (which we haven’t found a comparable one in the new homemade town yet), my favorite breakfast burrito at the little hole in the wall cafe that I am sure I could recreate but it has a lot of ingredients and it would get expensive quick, my favorite pasta meal at our favorite Italian place, and that meal always includes a walk down the street to our favorite icecreamery - so it’s more of an experience that is difficult to recreate, my favorite steak meal at the steak house out on the wharf that nobody up here makes (again, I could make it, but then I wouldn’t be able to go to the boardwalk with DH after and play air hockey or walk down the wharf to hear the elephant seals before dinner).

So in short, it is very specific meals at very specific restaurants that we are wanting.
