@cups4, I just had an "oh crap" moment when I realized that next week, it will no longer be "we're having another kid next year". It'll be "we're having a kid this year".
This. TTTHHIISSSS. How is it almost January and these kiddos are coming so quick!!!
We also had an oh crap moment when we were unpacking everything from Christmas. Our little one got a few gifts so I handed it to DH and said “would you put this in her room” and he froze. We have been calling it the nursery which feels foreign to us because we’ve never had a baby. Saying her room somehow made it incredibly real for him.
Has anyone else not done anything to get ready for the baby? All of you talking about nurserys and prep gives me anxiety! lol Maybe it's the STM part of me but I've not done the first thing to get ready.
@JNCPro3130 - sort of... I started a registry (it is completely private and we will not be giving out the info because this is our 4th boy) to get the coupon and start a list to see what I need for this time. We aren't doing a nursery this time so nothing to do there and I already spent waaaay tooo much time on etsy looking a adorable coming home outfits.
@JNCPro3130, we've done nothing. We have bought a few cute things over the last few months, but nothing more than pacis or stuffed animals. We still need to clear our an entire spare room and closet. In my head, once we have the a/s and it is more real, I'll feel the push to get it done, but maybe not.
@glitzandglitter, you have me beat! I've bought nothing! Although, like @suchaglencoco, I'm partially waiting for the AS. If this LO is a boy, we'll have very little to get since we saved everything from DS. We have a 3 bedroom house so we will have to clear out our guest bedroom for the baby. It really doesn't have much in it so I'm not too worried about it.
I made a list of all the places in there house that need to be de-cluttered. And I'm worrying about it.
Last night, i moved the bags of clothes that don't fit anyone from the bedroom to in front of the closet that goes to the attic. And i kept looking for applause and awards for all i had done. Spoiler: no applause, just a complaint from one of the kids that the bags were in her way.
All that counts, right? Do we need a thread for nesting? Or nesting encouragement?
@JNCpro3130 and @suchaglencoco - I wish we were doing a nursery - I think that would help motivate me to organize and prep but we are out of space We plan to move or add an addition in the next 1-2 years so until then no nursery for us.
We need a nesting thread, or just a get off your lazy a** thread. That one would be for me, not you guys. I have done nothing to prepare for this kid. I’ll probably start washing clothes and stuff a few weeks before the due date.
We have nothing done either. A few cute outfits I got on clearance, but that’s it. We need to clear out our office and closet in there and figure out where all that crap is gonna go. Most of it is hubbys sports memorabilia..autographs, bobble heads, and such. We have no idea where to put it. I know I’m having a boy, so I’m trying to make a list of things that I need but it’s exhausting! So much stuff to get for a FTM.
@glitzandglitter, we co-slept with DS for 10 months so he really didn't need a nursery. It was just decorative really. We'll probably do the same thing this time but I suspect DH is not going to want to set up a nursery for awhile because his parents live out of town and stay with us when in town. We'll see how things play out.
@gildah, I need a get off your lazy a** thread! I feel like things are going to start moving quickly once school starts back! My Mom's birthday is in a couple of weeks, DS's birthday is at the end of March, we have testing the beginning of April, and then it's survival until school is out! It's going to be quick!
I'm the opposite but maybe thats a FTM thing. I've been trying not to buy literally everything we need right now. DH says wait for the shower and I'm like, what if we don't get everything we need and I only have like a month to get it all! Plus I want to buy all the clothes but I know we will get a lot of that from others. I have a crib, glider and boppy pillow and lots of samples from like the Amazon and target welcome package things.
Count me in the needing a get off your lazy ass thread. Granted, I had a little 6 week life setback. But we bought DD’s big girl bed and semi set up her new room so my crib and glider are thrown in the middle of the spare room. I need to finish DD1’s room first and then patch walls and paint the nursery.
Purchasing wise, i got a double bob and a convertible car seat during Black Friday sales. I still need the other seat to my city select and a few smaller things. I keep saying I have time, but I’m not going to want to do it when im huge.
We need 2 threads- 1 for the over nesters, mainly the ftms (no offense guys). 1 for the rest of us lazy moms to keep ourselves accountable and get off our lazy butts.
Yeah definitely the FTM nester here. But actually everything we have has been bought for us. My grandma bought us a crib and mattress for Christmas. My stepmom bought us a glider for Christmas. Several people bought us books and outfits for Christmas. DH is hoping to paint the nursery this week just because he is off work the whole week and he works so much it’s hard to tell when he will have the time again.
I was super gung-ho about the first nursery. This time I'm like "eh, it'll get done eventually". My brother is more excited than I am because I said he can help with it. He's offered to take off of work a few days in February or March to come help me get it all ready. His excitement is a ltitle contagious, but not enough yet.
@glitzandglitter we did do much for DS’s nursery before he was born because we knew we were listing the house shortly after.
@JNCPro3130 The only reason we are on it now is because DH and I are both off for three weeks and want to get the stuff done while we have the time and we wanted to move DS into his new room as early as possible so it wasn’t like he was getting evicted when the baby showed up. We are hoping to start the baby’s room soon, but it might have to wait until spring break.
We’re not setting up a nursery yet, because I am determined to have a new house by time this kid needs one. We’ll room share until September of next year so we have some time.
I’m not even making a registry until we move in the next couple months. Once we know the sex of the baby and what the room will look like I’ll probably go into heavy duty nesting mode. Also great idea in making a registry just for the completion discount! I am thinking if we have a boy I’ll do a similar theme as J’s nursery and just do his big boy room in Daniel tiger.
@JNCPro3130 I’ve started making a list of all the stuff we need (thanks Baby Bargains book!). My parents bought us the crib and dresser and those are being delivered tomorrow. Other than that, not much else has happened. We need to start a registry in the next couple of weeks.
Where is everyone registering? I was going to do Buy, Buy Baby and one other, either amazon or target.
@BertieMeetsGertie I registered at Target and Amazon and love them both so far. There's only 1 BBB store in my state and it's an hour away. Babies R Us are also less common nearby. My family has already bought tons off our registries as they are first grandkids for my parents so getting spoiled. FTM super nester over here for sure! The fact that we've been waiting years for them plus being a planner in general plus just assuming the twins will come early plus NICU nurse slight anxiety all contribute. Can't wait to post and see everyone's nursery progress in the coming months!
PS had to share the most adorable Christmas gift we got for the twins. My sister in law just started crocheting
We did babies r us with our first and they give you cash back on a card to use in the store I think it was 5 percent back for everything bought off your registry... We got over 200 bucks to use to spend on the remainder of the items we needed. But with that being said their stability as a company would have me uneasy... So idk.
Im actually having two showers. My mom is throwing one and my MIL is throwing another since we live further away. I feel like all thsse FTM are ahead of me. I have nothing for this little guy. I think I’ve got a crib picked out but our baby’s room is full of crap. I’ll get it together, I’ve got until the end of May. Lol.
Same as all the other STMs. I want to have the everything organized and ready to go, but there is no point when I know she will be in our room for the first 3 months at least. We are going to wait until summer when we are both off to transition the toddler to his big boy room so sleepless nights won't mean much in terms of working the next day so she is stuck with us no matter what lol. I bought an auto rock n play months ago because amazon had a crazy deal that I couldn't pass up, but that's it. I'll actually be buying more for DS so he will be excited about his new room than the new baby.
@mmb4532 then you should be set Before my shower we had his room painted and the furniture set up, but that was about it. We got just about everything else we needed at the shower, I know not everyone is so lucky so I was super grateful for my family and friends.
This go around we have a spare bedroom that LO will move into at about 6 weeks of age I think, I'm trying to remember when we transitioned DS to his crib in his own room, and I think it was when he was about 6 weeks old. We have to repair the drywall tape on the ceilings of all the bedrooms upstairs, and I think we are going to start that in the coming weeks and then get her room painted. I already have a pair of blackout curtains from DS's original nursery to hang... and then I think we will look at some furniture. DS has already told me quite a few times that his baby sister cannot have his crib. I don't think I am going to win that battle, his crib converts to a toddler bed and a full size bed, so we may as well let it grow with him. The only purchases I have made for this LO so far are a pack of swaddle me's and a baby blanket. May is going to be here before I know it, but I will figure out how to get it done. SO has 2 more long weekend snowboarding trips planned, so those are probably when I will be able to go crazy
in regards to getting things done for baby, I don’t feel like I need much as a STM. I have been getting clothes here and there (I’m all about clearance sales and second hand items)... but I really feel like we have everything else we need. We just need to organize I purge to make room! Plan to do that in February when my mom is visiting and can help me not lose my mind (organizing isn’t my thing!)
Just a note to ease some of your minds: over parted before that we don't but anything for babies before birth. For DD1, we painted and carpeted the room she'd be sleeping in and got rid of some junk. We also registered for everything and had furniture ready to be delivered. For DD2, we registered for a double stroller. This time, I'm really just trying to clean some crap out of the house and rearrange the furniture in DD2's room so the crib fits. It looks like we'll need a new stroller and high chair, but there's plenty of time before I'll really need it. People in my community are great about sharing those things anyway.
ETA: that means i still freak out every pregnancy about decluttering and registering, so i get it. But i keep reminding myself it doesn't really matter.
Another STM over here. I've done nothing. I think once we have our A/S it will help motivate me. We probably won't even setup the nursery for #2 until September. DD will move into our guest room and her current room will stay the nursery. We plan to get her new furniture. We'll keep #2 in our room for at least the first 4m so we will probably wait to move DD until after we have visitors come this summer. I have so much sorting, washing and purging to do. All of our baby stuff is literally just piled up in the garage.
I am starting to freak out because I have no idea where we are going to put another kid (we have a small 2 bedroom apartment in NYC and a toddler). We can probably (barely) fit a bassinet in our room, but it’s going to be a tight squeeze (esp finding space for newborn clothes/diapers/etc). To make things worse, our lease is up May 30, so we either have to move before the baby comes, or commit to another year here.
@dem068a I'm in the suburbs of NYC. You get do much more space once you leave the city. Where are you thinking of moving? Do you both work in the city?
@nanifrog where are you? I am from Long Island and my husband is from NJ, so it’s a bit of a battle where we will end up (even though I refuse to move to NJ, because my family lives in Long Island and his parents in jersey are only there about 50% of the time- snowbirds in Florida too). He works in the city (I am home with my toddler), and works 12-13 hours days, so it would be a huge decrease in time that he would see the kids with an hour of commuting (vs 15 min now). But I am going to go crazy with two kids in this small apartment
We're in Westchester. The commute part is hard no matter what. Neither of us work in the city, but i still have a 45 min commute. I get to work from home a lot though. I work in nj and actually think it's a great option. Benefits of living close to ny without the drawbacks. It's more affordable too.
Re: Weekly Questions 12/18
How are we all basiclaly half through this?! It’s FLOWN by. Holy crap.
If I'm dreading the new year, so are all of you!!!
We still need to clear our an entire spare room and closet.

help motivate and inspire.
Personally ive been making a lot for the nursery. I’ve painted a few pictures and pillows.
And, I scored THIS fabric....
This shit is vintage 1998 y’all.
