@okaykoala first of all, the fact that you’re thinking of her feelings is a start. I would tell her in private so she can process any emotions she has. With friends that I know have a hard time with baby news, I don’t bring up my pregnancy or baby unless they do. I follow their lead with what they want to know or talk about.
I know this has been discussed a few times earlier on the board, but I think the best way is just be straightforward and make sure she hears it from you and not someone else. Maybe wait until the end of the day in case she needs to go home and process the information. Just tell her you know it might be hurtful but you wanted to tell her in private, so she wouldn't be as hurt by hearing a public announcement or hearing it from someone else. Good luck!

@bjkay22 depends where you are and how you're doing/growing I guess. I'm in Alberta, Canada so they could do things differently in other provinces and countries. But because there was no concern with baby's position or the placenta or rate of growth based on my regular doc appointments I didn't have an US in third trimester.
My best friend got pregnant 2 weeks after my first loss. I was fine most of the PG. BUT, I got pregnant again and then suffered a late first tri loss when she had 2 more weeks to go until her due date. I wasn't able to be around her because it was too hard for me. I found out about her birth on facebook and it devastated me that she didn't at least text to let me know. I would agree with others and tell her before you make it public on social media.
@okaykoala it's tough, that's for sure. I have a close friend whose been trying to conceive for about 4 years. They cannot afford IVF. In that span of time I have had my son and am now pregnant with my daughter. Both times it happened on the first month of trying. Details I only give her if she asks.
I told her about my pregnancy when I knew she'd be at home/or with her hubby and I didn't do it in person because for her she'd be worried about making me feel bad about her reaction to my news. It's just the type of person she is. So I texted her and let her react and process the info without fear of judgment (not that I would!!) and let her come to me when she was ready.
She needed a bit of space but now talks very openly to me about my pregnancy and how things are going. I still let her lead the conversation in that direction though.
I wish things were more fair. It's hard to see someone want something so badly and not be able to get it easily while for others it happens quickly.
Goodluck and don't be offended if she needs some space after. She'll come around eventually
@bjkay22 It probably depends on your doctor and even what your insurance will cover. Last time, my AS was supposed to be my last U/S but I had scans every 2 weeks once I started showing warning signs of pre-e at 34 weeks
For those asking about ultrasounds after the AS, I had one additional around 39wks and change, to check on baby’s size. I am not sure if this is standard practice or what.
@bjkay22, last time my AS was my last ultrasound. My insurance wouldn’t cover anymore unless medically necessary. For me, I was progressing along well and there were never any concerns. I went into labor at 40 weeks and 4 days. If I had made it to 41 weeks, I think my doctor mentioned doing another ultrasound to check baby’s size and fluid levels.
@bjkay22 I have another US at 28 weeks, but it's bc I have a chronic illness and they wanna make sure the baby is growing on schedule. I am not sure what the protocol would be if I were normal ha.
@fraufarbissina, maybe you could ask something about mat leave like, is any of it paid after a return to work? After my second, i was also wondering if I'd go back and I asked something like that. HR said it's earned before.
All the talk of exercise made me go to the gym today. Does anyone else have a lot of contractions after exercise?
Anyone have excruciating gas pains? TMI but I felt gassy this morning, rolled over, got out of bed and fell to my knees. It was so bad I couldn’t talk. A minute later I was able to get up and walk to the bathroom but was light headed and starting to sweat. Seriously had me worried, but no spotting, so I’m assuming it was gas as I feel fine now.
@mmb4532 I've also been having more gas pains later and they are killer.
Anyone else experiencing bad acid reflux/indigestion/heartburn? I feel like my cheat/throat is burning and tums just doesn't seem to be doing it. It's been a rough few days and I'm not sure when it will go away!!
@babys_2018 Definitely. And I think sometimes it doesn't go away until the end. I heard the old wive's tale heart burn equals lots of hair actually has some correlation. Maybe we will have hairy babies.
mmb4532 My gas is so bad sometimes I can't walk. TMI but if you go on youtube there are some stretches you can do to release it. Also rocking back and forth on the potty helps. @babys_2018 Uhg, the worst. I drank vinegar, lemon juice, or baking soda to help. I have to resort to zantac if it's really bad.
Anyone ekse getting swollen feet and ankles? It's Summer here and suddenly today I had noticeable swelling and got a bit worried. But it seems to be a normal pregnancy symptom?

I didn’t get any major swelling until about 35 weeks with my son. Could vary though? Not sure.
@babydreams88 I wouldn’t be concerned unless you have sudden shortness of breath or chest pain... in which case, call your doctor. Otherwise my best guess is it’s normal! I had swelling with DS but not until about 30+ weeks. Hot temps don’t help, though!
@babys_2018, yes! I have terrible heartburn and I hate to tell you but it didn't go away until DS was born. Tums helps me a little. I have some at work and beside my bed. I also sleep propped up and that helps a little at night.
@charlestonchew, I had heart burn with DS but he didn't have a lot of hair. Some do but not the case for my little guy.
@JNCPro3130 interesting! I don't typically care about old wive's tales but I read studies actually showing correlation with this one. I think the theory is that estrogen causes the esophagus to relax as well as grow hair.
@charlestonchew I had pretty bad heartburn and DS had hair when he was born... It did start to fall out on top around 3 weeks, he was rocking the Bruce Willis do for a few weeks until it started to come back in
@charlestonchew, DS had hair but not a ton. Everyone told me about it but it didn't prove true for me. Maybe my body just does funky things and I get heart burn when pregnant. lol I'm not saying it's NOT true. It just wasn't for me.
Thanks @lincbeesmom and @holli! The internet soothed some of my fears as it was commonly listed as a symptom at 18 weeks. They said as long as it goes away after sleeping or putting you're feet up and isn't accompanied by high blood pressure, facial swelling or protein in your urine it's normal for 3/4 of pregnant women.
Anyone else have the multiple marker screening done? How long did it take you to get the results back? It will be two weeks ago on Saturday that I got it done and I’m anxiously awaiting the results. Just wanted to see what the normal turn around time is.
I had such bad heartburn with the twins that I had to take Zantac (OB approved) almost daily for awhile. I would legit be in tears on the ground it would get so bad. My kids were bald when born. DD still has super thin and short hair at 2 years old. So I don't believe in that wives' tale, haha.
That is interesting. I haven't really had any heartburn this go, so maybe it was the 2 of them in there that made it so bad?
Although I've talked to other family and the ones with lots of hair didn't really have had heartburn. So who knows.
Pregnancy is weird. All this talk about heartburn hair made me think of the toddler as a newborn and got me excited to meet this next one when I have been more worried than anything to add a second lol.
@cups4, I just had an "oh crap" moment when I realized that next week, it will no longer be "we're having another kid next year". It'll be "we're having a kid this year".
@mmb4532 - I had mine last Thursday. The results came in today (I can see that they are there but not what the results are - so I am just waiting on my dr to call) You could always call and check if yours came back but it might have taken longer than usual because of the holiday?
edit: I just reread your post - 2 weeks seems long - I'd call.

@bjkay22. yep My dr told me they will do a final US at 36 weeks to estimate baby's size and check the position.

Thanks! Called today, still not in which worries me a little, but I’ll try not to concentrate on that!
