Re: Weekly Symptoms | 12.11

  • LCs are angels. At least the one at my hospital is! Definitely ask as many questions as you can possibly think of and take advantage of time with them during the hospital stay, hold on to any literature they give you, and ASK FOR THEIR NAME AND CONTACT PHONE so you can get in touch when you are at home and forget everything or don’t know what to do. I had a rough time but really wanted to continue breastfeeding if possible and being able to just call and talk to her helped immensely. The pediatrician I was taking DS to was not very pro-breastfeeding and was so discouraging, so just having someone on my side made all the difference! I was able to breastfeed for a year, but probably would have given up if she hadn’t helped me work everything out.

  • Anyone else develop the cone stomach? I asked dr about it today, and was told it was due to my abs separating...anyone else with this symptom?
  • The LCs at my hospital sucked when I was there with DD! The RNs at my hospital were the rockstars in that department. I’ll be using them more of a resource than the LCs!
  • @Chawk17 I think I have a cone stomach! When I try to sit up from laying down I have a weird look to my stomach!

Yes! It's weird. Glad I'm not alone.

You probably have rectus diastasis. I noticed it with this pregnancy and my OB confirmed it. Can’t do anything while pregnant, but I think you can do some PT to help close the gap after pregnancy.
  • @Chawk17 definitely a diastasis recti.  It's extremely common but the degree of separation varies by person/pregnancy.  I worked with a pelvic floor PT after the birth of my son and it helped tremendously to close the gap -- I recommend it to anyone who is able to see one.  In the meantime, you should avoid doing things that cause the cone shape (sitting up from laying down, for instance) because it can worsen the gap unnecessarily.  Use side plane movement to get up from the laying down position.

Yep dr said something about PT...but also said some don't heal and it's " a mark of pregnancy" weird. Def. Will do pt.

    Thanks for the tips.
When we were in the exam room waiting for dr. I did a crunch to show DH....now I know I shouldn't do that anymore. Eek.
  • My hospital has a breastfeeding support group in addition to LCs.  Breastfeeding moms meet the same day and time each week for support. No cost and you go whenever you want.  Might want to check and see if something like that exists in your area.

Second the check your insurance thing.  Mine pays for 6 visits to an LC after birth and it's covered at 100%.
  •  @clc515 Yes, I get sore and achy, especially when I’m really active or on my feet a lot.  I haven’t used a support band yet, but starting to think about it.

PSA: If you are suffering from constipation, try a Ruben sandwich (or at least some sauerkraut).  If you do NOT want to be crampy and gassy all day, DO NOT EAT A RUBEN SANDWICH.
Well that's a tough choice... I love Reuben sandwiches.
  • I am so sore in my crotch. Beginning to understand what men feel when they're kicked in that area. I wear two braces. A vaginal support brace and the bellybandit upside brace and I still ache in between my legs. So painful.

I need a big big bubble bath to soak in. But my tub is DDs tub. Not fun to bathe in a bunch of kids squirt toys
  • Some days I feel like my abdomen is growing out by the minute. Right now it is happening and putting a halt to any work I should be doing to prepare for my ILs coming tomorrow. Ugh.

Same. I blame swelling that slowly inflates my belly throughout the day.

  • I don’t even feel like this kid is
crowding my lungs, but it is gettin increasingly harder to not breath heavy when working/doing housework. We have my ILs coming into town and so we just did a mad dash of the bathrooms (well DH did), the dining room and kitchen floors. I still need to sweep the carpet in the living room, but that entails picking up DD’s toys/books so that’s on hold until she’s in bed for the night. Thank goodness my clients are awesome and understand I’m pregnant and my job might be slightly compromised (massage therapy).
  • How is it that when I sneeze or cough I immediately have to pee but then when I go it's maybe a trickle? Kid get off my bladder!
    Yes to this. Completely.
  • So I went to see the OB yesterday. Complained about excruciating SI pain, and she said to try acupuncture... I was really confused, but she said it helped her. Has anyone else here done that before and did it help?
  • How is it that when I sneeze or cough I immediately have to pee but then when I go it's maybe a trickle? Kid get off my bladder!

I see this and raise you peeing on the spot when sneezing or coughing.

    This.
  • My OB is actually an FP and does acupuncture, but won’t do it on pregnant women due to lack of proven safety. Some of the other docs in his practice will do it, but most wont for the same reason. There’s no known harm, but it’s just not proven safe. It’s completely a personal choice - I chose not to do it for my pregnancy related back pain. I did see a chiro though with some help...
  • +1 for baby on bladder. When I stand up I usually only have moments to make it. I also think I’m leaking some throughout the day.

My crotch is also sore, except sore like I had a lot of sex recently (I didn’t). So strange.
  • Sneezed while walking to the bathroom at work and peed. At least I was on my way out the door but really? Now I have a 30 minute ride home in wet pants.

For everyone that is having pelvic/crotch pain. I started physical therapy for it last week and have seen a huge improvement already. I was given a Serola band to wear. It goes around the hips to keep everything tight. I was told the belly band was not right support to wear for that pain. I was also given exercises to strengthen the muscles that connect to my pelvis. Between the belt (worn just about 24/7 And for me backwards because it gives me the best relief that way) and the exercises, my pain is almost gone today. Give physical therapy a try!
  • @lainikins glad you're having relief! I've also been in PT for SPD and both the belt they gave me and the physical therapy have made a huge difference.  I second your recommendation to see a physical therapist for ongoing pelvic pain.  This is a new kind of crotch pain that's not felt in my pelvis... more like my actual vagina is sore.  I'm assuming just from all the extra bloodflow happening.

I've got this too, but only on my left side. WTF?!
  • TMI Alert.

I couldnt poop for a couple weeks. Now I can’t stop. And it’s the never ending wipe kind. Wtf is this. I’m so for that hippo length pregnancy right about now.

Yeah, this is my problem. Like, its tender to the touch, but not necessarily pelvic soreness.

ALso @smorzandoj - best thing I did formyself in that department was get those wet wipes that charmin makes.

Thx. I actually got the contenelle ones in a sample box from amazon and pulled them out last night. Might have to use my sample credit to buy more.
  • My belly got rock hard last night and felt a bit crampy and it has been like this all day now. It is soooooo uncomfortable. Doesn’t hurt at all, but man even laying on the couch is hard work!

  • I'd still been falling asleep on my back pretty much every night and my doctor told me to cut that out. Now I can't sleep and it's miserable. Laying on my side hurts so much. I am so hopeful that our new mattress (coming tomorrow) will change things for me.
  • @SarahFoley725 I’m on my back a lot, too. Granted, I have to sleep mostly sitting up so I’m not sure it counts, but if it does I can’t help it. I try to stay on my sides, but it does hurt!
  • I've got the 2-3 am insomnia going on.
Either A- it's because I'm too congested and uncomfortable laying down with this cold.
    B- asleep by 8:30 so I'm rested?
Currently listening dh snore and getting kicked in stomach by Pete- youngest fur baby.

Right there with you with the 3am insomnia, though mine is hip pain related. And my cat, Hobbes, who usually sleeps at my feet laid down on my chest and belly this morning and got some kicks from my LO, which was a first for him. He didn't seem to mind, though he started sniffing curiously at my belly after a few kicks.

Everyone that has touched my belly in the last week has made a comment about how hard it is. I tell them it’s bc they are touching her butt. This time around it’s much harder but I started pregnancy in way better shape than with my last two so I’m just saying it’s that.
